we walked up, this boyz won. people won every once in a while, but what shape are those rims? >> they are oval. that doesn't seem fair for a round ball to get into an oval ring, does it? >> if it goes over, guess what, every person that shot would win. >> but there's another secret, too. balls are often over-inflated and so springy they bounce right off the rim. and there goes your stellar shooting average. but of all the games we've played, experts say this is the trickiest shoot out the star. he could hit a nickel-sized target with ease. we brought him to the hidway. so he forks over $5. and loses.

then he forks over another $5 and our sure shot loses again. >> is this game winnable? >> yeah. >> those are all winners from this year? my buddy is a special forces sniper and he tried it and he can't win. >> i've had a lot of shooters come over here and can't win. >> experts say the sights are off causing the ammo to fly all over the place. >> you guys spend a ton of money figuring out where the gun actually shoots. >> we asked the guy running the shoot out, what's going on here? are the sights regulation oon this gun? >> he didn't want to talk anymore. >> while some of these tricks are legal, police say others really pushed the line. laws vary from state-to-state and so does enforcement. this carnival manager told us his games are fair.

seen, an intimate self-portr >> a tiny gymnast with the outside personality and her own home movies. i spent the day with her and we were there when she came for the first siem since she left to go for the gold. >> before she left london last week, we gave gabbey douglas a camera to capture her view of a new-emitted super-star's journey home. >> the minute you won the gold, tell me what happened. >> things changed instantly. i remember looking at my twitter and i had gained, like, so many followers. me and my mom went shopping. i'm just going to enjoy it and suck it in. >> first, a much-needed nap on the plane from london. before the madness begins.

since steve harvey started his standup career with a gig at multimillion dollar comedy empire. now, he's about to bring a fresh perspective to the daytime talk the king of comedy sat down with hoda kotb to talk about faith, family and what women need to know to understand men. >> you say there are three things every man needs to have in a relationship. >> yeah. >> every man has to have loyalty. >> uh-huh. >> every man has to have support. and every man has to have the cookie. >> the cookie? >> cookie. the thing that everybody likes is the cookie. vanilla. pecan. chocolate chip. dark fudge. doesn't matter. everybody loves cookies. >> so the man needs the cookie? >> it doesn't work any other way. we are pretty much happy guys after that.

it don't take much after that you know, little espn and ta-dah. it's a wrap. >> reporter: even if he cracks you up as he does it, steve harvey has a knack for calling it like it is. >> you ain't my daddy. >> reporter: 55-year-old comedian has been at it for 27 years, on tv, radio -- >> this is the "steve harvey morning show >> reporter: the big screen. in two best-selling books. and most famously, on stage. >> my mama made us go to church so much, i used to look at my mama sometimes and say, mama ma, i'd rather go to hell. >> reporter: now he is giving up standup for daytime talk with a daily show called "steve harvey," that's being distributed by nbcuniversal and produced in chicago, where oprah once ruled. it's one of five talk shows launching this fall, but the crowded arena doesn't even faze this confident funny man. so you got katie couric.

with him but critics wonder if his fan base is too narrow. your audience at your last standup was almost exclusively african-american. you want a big tent for your talk show? >> yeah. >> how do you get other people in the tent who may not be as familiar with you, steve? >> well, see, they are really in the tent. you can't sell 3 million books to just black people. i'm sorry. you can't do that. you can't -- you can't make 91 million at the box office. >> right. >> with just black people. i'm sorry. see, they are in the tent. >> reporter: steve and his wife, marjorie, who have a blended family of seven children, are grounded by strong family values and a deep religious faith, something that became especially important to steve when things got so tough during his early days as a comic that he actually had to live in his car. >> when i was homeless, without faith, i'd have quit. when i got two divorces, i would have quit.

so, along the way, i made a promise. i told god, i said, if you allow me to make it, when i get there, i'll tell everybody how i did it. and it was you. >> do you think there's room for that in daytime talk? >> i mean, you know, faith is huge in most people's lives. >> reporter: it's that serious side of steve that's part of his appeal. >> when you were trying to kiss the woman -- >> reporter: his real-life advice suspect just funny, it's full of smart pearls of life wisdom this morning before i came to you, i was paging through my journal and there were two steve harvey boats can and one of them was "i'm sick of having fun. there's a difference between fun and joy." >> yeah. see, fun is something you have to go and do. you have go to vegas. i got to go to the beach. i got to be at the concert. i got to go to the festival. that's just to have fun. >> okay. >> to have joy is to be able to wake up and be all good with just who you are, with just who

you in love. joy is a peace of mind that resides in a person who finally has gotten in touch with their true feelings. that's very peaceful place to be and i ain't always been there. >> reporter: now that he is there, he is devoted to giving back. the steve and marjorie harvey foundation mentors young boys and girls. and for ten years, steve's hoodie awards have honored local businesses and community leaders. as for his own show, steve is not shy about fessing up to wanting it to emulate that other famous talk show. is it oprahesque then? >> i hope it's oprahesque. >> yeah, no kidding. >> who don't? i'm only 990 million away, but, yeah. >> so if you could fast forward five years from now, what would we be sitting in these chairs talking about, do you think? >> i'm gonna have major stars clamoring to get a seat on the a-list couch. they will be calling me little o

>> announcer: nbc bay area news starts now. >> good evening. and thanks for joining us for this special edition of nbc bay area news a little early tonight. we begin tonight with more c controversy surrounding giant's all-star milky cabrera. he tried to avoid a 50 game drug suspension by creating a fake web site and product to support his claim that he inad veverten took an illegal substance. dave joins us now with the latest. and i have to say, this is a first. >> absolutely, chris. the milky cabrera saga just keeps getting uglier and uglier by the day. an associate of cabrera allegedly paid $10,000 for that

phony web site. the plan was to try to fool mlb and suggest cabrera ordered a supplement that was fraudulently spiked with testosterone. famed investigator and agents from major league baseball are looking into cabrera's trainers, handlers and his agents. comcast sports net insider says there's zero chance he returns to play for the giants. >> it just shows the depth of the level of deception he has gotten into. obviously, he didn't tell me the truth a few weeks ago when i asked him about it. he didn't tell team trainers the truth or even his own teammates. and it just underscores why you're probably never going to see him in a giants uniform again. >> cabrera's agents say they had

their team isn't over yet. when the national rallied to tie the southeast champs from tennessee, back home in pedaluma, fans who gathered to watch the reaction on two 50 foot movie screens went wild. in fact, the sonoma county all-stars rallied twice. but in the end, pedaluma lost 9-6. >> these boys never give up. they play to the bitter end. they just don't quit. >> at beyond the glory, a pedaluma sports bar, games from the little league world series are playing on a loop. here, little league is a pretty big deal. fans are well aware that if pedaluma wins every game going forward, they still have a chance at the championship. >> losing is not such a bad thing. they've got good pitching, good offense. i don't see any reason why they could. . >> reporter: no matter the outcome, they have the support

asking which is this part of a greater trend. kim? >> chris, police woent say this is part of a greater trend of violence in the area. they will say they're investigating whether some of these killings are gang-related. san jose police say they arrived near south winchester just avenue 5:00 this morning to find a man dead with at least one gunshot wound. >> it does not appear to be that on the outside. there's nothing that would lead us to believe that initially. but the investigation is still konting and that is a possibility. >> police say they are still looking for a gunman. this is just a latest in the rash of homicides in the city over the last seven days. three people, including a 15-year-old, have been injured. >> i don't understand what's going on around here. i really don't. >> on monday, a 38-year-old man was found shot to death. a woman was stabbed with a samurai sword on west san carlos

and meridian avenue. >> the gangs are just getting ridiculous. >> i just don't want to walk around wearing the wrong color. i threw away all of my blue and red shirts. >> reporter: police chief chris moore characterized them as an anomaly. the bottom line is there needs to be more officers on the streets. pension reform is needed to hire more law enforcement! san jose is on par with a number of homicides the city saw at the same time last year. live in san jose, kimberly terry, nbc bay area news. >> in san jose, a wind-driven brush fire burned five acres this afternoon before fire crews brought it under control. the fire broke out around 3:30 just south of highway 280 near story road. this is video taken just before 4:00 this afternoon. no homes or businesses were damaged. but parts of a nearby home less

encampment were burned. no one was injured. today marks 10 years since the worst fire in san jose's recent history. 221 firefighters battled the 11 alarm fire. in all, the fire lost at sanana row was approximately $90 million. a state of emergency in parts of northern california as a fast-moving wild fire rages out of control. the ponderosa fire has forced thousands of people out their homes tonight and is heading northeast toward the communities of shingletown and viola. it is now threatening nearly 4,000 more. about a thou sanld firefighters are battling the fire. but fire officials say they have yet to make any headway in containing it.

remains shut down tonight and following an exclusive investigation. our report gave you a firsthand look at what the state called a massive rodent infestation. tonight, we have new information. chief investigator reports that federal and state investigators are expanding that national food recall. >> well, shortly after learning of our investigation, state inspectors shut down freemont bay san francisco urban natural foodment the state telling us tonight, details uncovered in the investigation may now lead to criminal charges. >> have you seen anything like this? >> it's a very rare situation that we see a facility that has this much rodent activity. >> he's describing what state inspectors found. >> certainly, we've seen a lot of products that have evidence of rodent activity in or on them. >> reporter: inside this 150,000 square foot warehouse. >> we've really got living and

breeding. they're not just coming in to feed. they're actually living, breeding and whatnot in the facility. >> reporter: did what we report accurately portray what you found? >> i believe so. in terms of the level of rodent activity, it was accurate. >> reporter: the pictures exposed a troubling trail of mice feces and example after example of contaminated food products. >> go deeper. this is san francisco natural food company, freemont, california. >> two former employees contacted nbc bay area to expose the filthy conditions they witnessed. >> the most disgusting thing i ever seen was mice living inside there. there were mice reproducing in there, making babies in there. and what they did was just take the babies out, throw themaway and rebag -- resift the parts

and then put it back in stock. >> product that was contaminated with mice feces was resold? >> mice feces, dead mice, mess, urine, hairs, sifted out, repackaged. >> occasionally or all of the time? >> all of the time. >> reporter: our investigation uncovered two krit corral documents. management required employees to clean products before repack anling them. >> reporter: the owners of this facility, are they aware of how bad this problem was? >> yes, they were. >> reporter: they aware that you were instructed to sift out mice feces. >> at times, the owners were the ones that gave the orders. >> reporter: our sources say that the owners told them to repackage contaminated product and sell them to the public. have you confirmed that? >> we have confirmed that there is documentation that they were

screening some products for rodent fee kal contamination. and there is so indication that those products were distributed. >> and i cording to the state, that would violate 110620 which states it is unlaufl for any person to manufacture, sell, deliver 408d or offer for sale any food that is adulterated. each violation, a misdemeanor. >> it's very disturbing. >> reporter: closing a facility down for more than a month, that's up usual. what does it say? >> it speaks to the level of product contamination that was found and the level of rodent infestation in the plant. >> reporter: the state tells us it will make a final decision at the conclusion of its on going investigation. san francisco urban natural food has extended its deepest apologies saying "this condition

pretty nice though around santa cruz today. a pretty strong sea breeze going. and, yes, that same sea breeze pumping in low clouds all the way by tomorrow morning. pretty strong winds, southwest wind at 21 miles per hour. air quality stirring up the air pollution, kind of dispursing it out. the bay area looking pretty good in terms of air quality. tonight, areas of low clouds. misty skies for the coastal peninsula and maybe down to san jose. mild temperatures to start the workweek. and then warmer. right now, the satellite view shows that most of the thundershowers that we had that started the weekend now clearly off to the east there. this trough and this little area of low pressure offshore is going to keep that sea breeze going for the first half of the week. we'll see this typical pattern

on the coast. 60s here, still making a run at the mid to upper 80s for tomorrow. here you go in the future cast looking at the cloud cover tomorrow morning. and then as we head towards lunchtime, we'll still be stuck with those clouds on the coast. te temperatures for monday will be close to 80 around san jose. you'll have to head to gilroy to find 90. or maybe around senol you may see 90. in the north bay, winds primarily out of the south. that should keep temperatures from the upper 70s to low 80s. a little bit warmer around oakland. should see numbers closer to 70. the three-day forecast shows temperatures dropping off a little bit more.
