wiper meaning you might need the wipers as the mist might affect your drive from the north bay. along the coast likely, the east shore freeway we have construction both directions, north of gilman at the bottom, speeds in the 60s. not a big deal. back to you. >> thanks so much. >> san jose leaders say they are troubled and rightfully so by a wave of crime in the south bay. >> four have been killed and a number injured. a look at how city leaders and the community plan to deal with this problem. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. yes, in the past several hours another man has been shot here in san jose, officers found this person with at least one gunshot wound, around 9:00 last night on the 1600 block of east san antonio street. last report his injuries are possibly life threatening. no arrests. if you look at what happened

since monday, last monday, there has been a lot of violence, this map shows the location of where four people were murdered over the past week. monday, a man was shot in his car. at charles street and oakland road. later that day a man killed a woman with a samurai sword outside a walgreen's. a vigil planned for her tonight. a 21-year-old man was shot that day, he died wednesday. and then yesterday morning another man was shot and killed. that taking place near south winchester. that's four homicides, doesn't include other crimes in which people were seriously hurt. >> the gangs are getting ridiculous out here. >> i don't want to be walking around wearing the wrong colors. i threw away my blue and red shirts. i don't want to take no risks. >> reporter: police are looking into whether some of those homicides are gang related. they do not see this as being an

upward trend. the latest violence characterized as anomaly. the chief would agree that the city needs more officers. the mayor argued that pension reform would help pay for that, pension reform not popular with a lot of the police department's rank and file. reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you. we can tell you a candlelight vigil tonight for the homeless woman bob mentioned stabbed to death with a samurai sword. that happened in front of a walgreen's store late last monday. nearby communities are organizing the vigil and prayer ceremony in her honor at 7:30 p.m. in the parking lots of the walgreens on west san carlos and meridian. the man suspected of stabbing her will make a court appearance thursday. >> chp is investigating the crash in antioch overnight on highway 4 near eighth street. officers say a man was heading

east when he pulled his car off the road and got out. officers say the man was trying to cross the highway when he was hit by an ambulance. he died at the scene. officers say he left his car running when he got out. they are trying to determine whether the man committed suicide. >> we're learning more about the steroid scandal around sus spented star melky cabrera. the news reporting one of his associates created a fake website trying to explain away alleged steroid use. according was to try and fool mlb and suggest that cabrera ordered the supplement from the website that was spiked with testosterone. the daily news says that story quickly unravelled last month. comcast sports net giants insider says there's now zero chance cabrera will ever return to the giants. >> it just shows the depth of

the level of deception that melky cabrera has gotten into since this positive test came out. >> cabrera's agents say they had no knowledge or dealings with anybody associated with the website. >> happening now, state of emergency is under way in parts of northern california as a fast-moving wild fire rages. it is burning east of redding near manton. the fire which began saturday morning destroying seven homes so far and forced nearly 4,000 people to evacuate. about 1,000 firefighters battling the flames including crews from the bay area. about 20 scare miles burned and ofrls have yet to make any headway to contain it. crews are dealing with extremely dry conditions and steep terrain. >> there's a lot of dirt roads, logging roads we're going to get back in the aefrmt we're relying on our bull dozers going in,

building new lines to help us get our firefighters in there. >> investigators say it could have been sparked by lightning. the fire is one of 14 major wild fires burning across the state. >> the man accused of braking into steve jobs' home will face a judge. the 35-year-old is expected to enter a plea today. police say he stole apple gadgets, jewelry and jobs' wallet. he reportedly gave a stolen ipad to a friend who apparently used to the play music during a street performance in san francisco. the friend says he had no idea the ipad belonged to the late apple co-founder or that it was stolen until police showed up at his door. >> federal officials are in the bay area working to prevent hate crimes in the wake of a shooting at a wisconsin sikh temple. melinda spoke yesterday. she told the audience in the temple that when she was first hired, president obama and attorney general eric holder

there's only 4:44, we'll get a look at forecast in a bit. >> hollywood is in shock this morning after the apparent suicide of famed director tony scott. the 68-year-old seen here with denzel washington directed several block busters including "top gun." investigators say he jumped from a bridge at the port of los angeles yesterday. a dive team pulled his body from the water several hours later. his car was found near the bridge and there are reports a suicide note was found in his office. scott leaves behind a wife and twin sons. >> a missouri congressman is backing off of a controversial comment he made about rape and pregnancy this weekend. republican todd aiken appearing on ktvi in st. louis, an interviewer asked him if he would support abortions for women who had been raped. this was his answer. >> it seems to me first of all from what i understand from doctors, that's really rare, if it's a legitimate rape, the

the time 4:53. a major recall affecting romaine lettuce. the supplier is voluntarily recalling romaine lettuce labeled field fresh single head ro main. there have been no reports of illness but the supplier is concerned it could be contaminated with e. coli. the heads were shipped to 19 states including california, puerto rico and canada. >> gas prices are on the rise again. the trend began last week after more than 100 days of holding below 2011 prices. the national average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.72, 29 cents more than one month ago. but here in the bay area the average price for a gallon of regular are higher in san francisco, it's $4.20, in oak lands $4.14, and in san jose, $4.15 about 35 cents more than one month ago.
