reports of an overturned truck at the walnut creek interchange. we'll look at your lafayette and walnut creek commute coming up. we'll give you a live look. that is houston, texas, where the space shuttle "endeavour" is locked and loaded, ready to take flight after circling the earth nearly 5,000 times. it will be heading out here to the bay area tomorrow, so be ready for that. today is thursday, september 20th. this is "today in the bay." 5:00 straight up. good morning, everybody. thank you very much for joining us. it's time to get it going here. i'm jon kelley. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. and we do begin with breaking news as a shooting in oakland sends a juvenile to the hospital. it happened just after midnight near a best western on macon road. no word on what led up to the shooting or how old that victim is. bob redell is headed to the scene to gather information and we will bring you the latest information when we get it.

new details on the terrifying story of a car colliding with a gas pump and then bursting into flames. it all happened in the east bay. surveillance camera caught that crash happening at the gas station in martinez yesterday. the suv was backing up when it hit the pump and then spins. a fire immediately erupts there. the initial investigation shows the driver accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake while attempting to back up. firefighters were on the sdmeen minutes. this one took quite some time to knock out that fire, but somehow nobody has injured. fire officials there say that's due in part to a very quick-thinking gas station manager who saw all the smoke there and then he hit the emergency fuel shutoff switch. no word yet on when the station will be reopened. a stranger danger warning at an east bay middle school. police in the town of moraga are looking for a woman offering rides to students near one of its schools.

it happened at the middle school yesterday. the driver asked the student if he needed a ride. the same man was seen two weeks ago asking another student if he wanted a ride. the man was driving a brown pickup truck with a camper shell. anyone who sees truck should call police. unfortunately this is becoming a trend in the upscale community of palo alto. another person has been sexually assaulted and police say it may be the third case involving the very same suspect. christie smith is live in palo alto where police are offering some very important tips to female joggers out there trying to get in shape this morning. good morning, christie. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. this is a really popular place to seen. i've already seen at least two joggers out here this morning, but take a look and see how isolated it can be in certain areas along this jogging trail. you can see that there are warning signs or just about every single light post out here this morning letting women know exactly what's going on. investigators think that this

man could be responsible for two other assaults on women and that he may be getting more bold. the latest assault happened along the trail in el palo alto park. a woman out for a jog alone early in the morning. police say a man came up behind her, groped her, grabbed her and tried to pull her down to the ground. she fell and that's when the attacker took off. there are other sketches from the other sexual assaults and investigators believe it could be the same person in all of these assaults. that man about 5'9" tall. yesterday morning, though, that woman, she didn't give up. >> started jogging after him, still screaming. picked up her cell phone that she had with her and called us on the phone while she was following him from a safe distanc distance. >> reporter: police reminding people not to jog with head phones or ear buds in both ears.

carry a cell phone and buddy up on your morning or evening jog. the other incident happened in the noon hour. police particularly concerned because this happened early in the morning when there were less witnesses around. reporting live in palo alto, christie smith, "today in the bay." an oakland teen accused of killing his adoptive parents will stand trial as an adult. an alameda county judge has ruled there is enough evidence to trial 16-year-old moses cayman. prosecutors say he killed his parents in january during a fit of rage over trouble in school. his lawyer is planning to appeal the ruling. he said cayman suffers from mental disorders and other conditions due to a dramatic childhood. san mateo county sheriffs are asking for your help this morning finding a san carlos man who's been missing more than two weeks now. 25-year-old dereck ohlsen was last seen at his home. he had been home bound for the past two years but the past

couple of months he had been going out starting long walks and recently talked about wanting to walk to san jose to visit his grandparents. anybody with any information is asked to contact police. a mexican vacation has turned deadly for a walnut creek family. authorities say a giant wave dragged a walnut creek husband and wife into the ocean as they walked along a baja beach this week. the 72-year-old man drowned. the 66-year-old woman was badly injured. people living along the marin coastline or visiting the beach area are about to get a very clear reminder they are in tsunami country. county officials planning to post 60 warning signs like this along the coast. it's all part of an effort to make sure people are prepared to head to higher ground in the event of an offshore earthquake. some feature a big tidal wave. others warn visitors that they are entering a tsunami hazard

zone. >> you are seeing those along the coast line more and more. it's 5:05. we want to check in with meteorologist rob mayeda. he is joining us with a look at the temperatures right now. >> and the temperatures right now quite chilly. in the north bay we're waking up to some 40s. still some patchy low clouds inland. not as much as we've seen the past couple of mornings. 24 hours ago you had a breeze up to 25 miles per hour. this morning the winds are still onshore but not quite as strong as the last couple of days. a sign we'll see a little warming inland, more warming for your friday forecast as well. satellite/radar view has a weather system just offshore. the upper low will cross over the coast heading into the weekend. that's going to drop our temperatures down come sunday. you've got low clouds across the bay for the morning and just like yesterday we'll see sunshine for the afternoon but unusually chilly on the coast with those low clouds. highs there near 60 inland, 60s and 70s. again, as we head towards tomorrow morning as shuttle "endeavour" on the piggyback

ride on the 747 comes by the bay area at 8:00 in the morning, it looks like we'll see patch owe low clouds tomorrow morning. low 70s around san jose, 65 san francisco, 68 degrees over in oakland. you'll see that the valleys should warm up a little bit. east bay and south bay tomorrow into saturday and more clouds and cooling for the second half of the weekend. mike. >> folks, we'll take you back to the east bay where we're looking toward 680, the walnut creek interchange. east 24 is where we had reports of an overturned pickup, at one point reported on its roof with injuries. now it's just completely cleared. no injuries and all lanes should be clearing as chp leaves the scene. you see a little slowing north 680 from the area, but speeds coming down towards 60, not a problem. looking over here away from the bay bridge, the accident at ashby has cleared as well. that's state route 13 as you head eastbound on 80. westbound is your commute direction and no problems towards the toll plaza. there's construction between 16 and 980. we lose two lanes, maybe three

at a time but we're not seeing much slowing as you approach the 980 interchange. we'll show you across the bay there's the san mateo bridge on the peninsula side and the south bay moves smoothly as well. 101 northbound right here underneath 680, guys. back to you. happy birthday, b.a.r.t. it's celebrating by giving gifts to riders. the transit system turned 40 this month. to celebrate they're giving away 40,000 free rides to bay area students who are going on field trips. b.a.r.t. is also handing out $40 vouchers for free tickets starting tomorrow. and next week the agency will be giving free ice cream at san francisco's powell and oakland's rock ridge stations. now somebody in the bay area may be sell rating very soon but only have a week left to claim their winning mega millions ticket. this one worth almost $228,000. they matched five of six numbers in the march 30th draw and this was sold at fox liquors on locker enstreet in san

5:12 thursday morning. it is the news hundreds of firefighters have waited to hear. a san jose firefighter back home this morning after nearly dying at the scene of a fire nearly a month ago. frank ryan's heart stopped as he was fighting a church fire last month. marla tellez is live in san jose with more on really his incredible recovery. good morning, marla. >> reporter: laura, good morning. sta station 1 in downtown san jose is where frank ryan has been stationed for about ten years. you could call it his second home. now, i just spoke to his captain and he does confirm for us that frank was released from the hospital yesterday. guess what, his first order of business was to come stop by here, station 1, and see his friends. captain brian endicott says frank hung out with the crew for

about an hour yesterday afternoon. he said he looks great and was in good spirits. of course it was a much different story on august 30th when frank's heart stopped at the scene of a three-alarm fire at st. patrick's church in san jose. captain endicott was there the moment it happened. he said he remembers seeing frank collapse. >> just unbelievable. i mean to see one of your own guys go down, you know, right in front of you. very tough, emotional day. but to see him, like i said, come back, to be able to walk through the doors here yesterday was a great day for all of us. >> reporter: doctors say it was a blessing in disguise that the 41-year-old went into cardiac arrest on the job, surrounded by fellow firefighters who are trained to save lives. otherwise the outcome could have been a whole lot different. now, captain endicott says frank may not return to work for a few more months, but he will absolutely be back.

live in san jose, marla tellez, "today in the bay." we've all come to learn scott mcgrew does a lot of things around here and does them very well but he wants to assure you that, no, he did not stay up all night looking for mistakes in apple's maps. >> i spent six minutes just looking around my neighborhood. while the new iphone 5 comes out tomorrow, apple pushed out its latest operating system for mobile on wednesday. the update canned google maps and replaced them in apple maps. case in point. here's valley christian high school in san jose, except valley christian is nowhere near there. now, just a few blocks away, there's poineer high school. we're pretty sure that's supposed to be pioneer. you want to see the valley christian warriors playing the poineer mustangs, you'll end up

at another school. the school right next to apple headquarters which you can see is listed as collins down on the lower part. it's actually lawson. so there you go. take a paper map with you if you're going to use your iphone. we'll check the news before the bell. seema mody is live at cnbc world headquarters. we're not sure where that is, but good morning. >> reporter: englewood, new jersey. you should come join me here sometime. let's get to the markets, though. futures right now are lower after the markets eked out a small gain on wednesday. investors got good news from the housing sector as existing home sales rose much more than expected last month. but a crdrop in oil prices weigd on stocks after the government reported a big increase in u.s. inventories last week. asia and europe are lower today after reports show that manufacturing activity did slow in the month in china and the eurozone. we do get data this morning on unemployment, manufacturing and a very closely watched survey on business conditions in the philadelphia area.

the dow rising 13 points. the nasdaq closing up higher by around 5 points. now, your son or daughter may be asking santa to play leap frog this christmas. tablets like the leap pad and apple ipad are expected to top many kids' holiday wish lists. k mart is out with its hot toy list today following toys r us yesterday. you may want to start shopping now. a survey of retail cfos say 55% say their inventory levels will be the same as last year. stores don't want to be stuck with too much merchandise forcing them to make big post-holiday price cuts. so if you want to get that tablet, guys, get in line now. of course we've got the apple iphone line and then new features coming out for the giants as well. we'll take a look at that coming up in just a bit. >> all right, we'll lk forward to that. 5:16 right now. we're looking forward to hopefully a nice weekend, another cool start to the day. >> ever since monday we've been looking at cool temperatures for

the afternoon but i think it's been good luck for the giants. we've been watching those games. today a little different, the game is at 12:45. yes, now the magic number five, thanks to last night's win and the dodgers lost. part of their doubleheader with the nationals. game time 12:45, 65 degrees, partly cloudy skies. so not quite as chilly. you might be able to lose the sweatshirt, at least for the beginning of the game, before things cool down moving to the afternoon. 40s and 50s outside right now. again, patchy low clouds. one change we're starting to see this morning is the wind speeds in through the inland valleys in fairfield, not quite as strong. that's one of the signs we'll see the next 36 hours. the sea breeze well not be felt as strongly in some of our inland valleys. satellite/radar has a few mid and high level clouds coming up over the coast so not only will we see low clouds, but there are probably high clouds as we go through the afternoon. low clouds across the bay. through the afternoon the trend

continues, low clouds on the coast. low clouds will start to sweep back in tonight into tomorrow morning. temperatures around the bay area, near 72 in san jose, getting closer to 80 as you head over to gilroy and around pleasanton and sunol, some of the warmer spots around the bay area, danville included, over towards fairfield and antioch near 80. 60s and 70s for most of the bay area. 68 in oakland, 63 in san francisco. so three-day forecast, there's a brief warmup for tomorrow just for our valley, not much change on the coast where the fog will stick around. then everybody will cool down for the second half of the weekend. fall gets started on saturday and temperatures falling early into next week. mike. let's take a look out here, folks. we're looking over here toward the peninsula where a smooth drive right now evident from are our speed sensors, but there were initial reports of some sort of road hazard blocking your slow lane on that transition. again that, cleared from chp reports and a smooth drive. i just showed you the peninsula side at the san mateo bridge. no delays for 101 or 280.

typical construction coming off of the bay bridge. also the giants played at 12:45. giants, give me five. no, five, because that is the magic number. typical construction overnight getting to the golden gate bridge as you cross the bay. let's get a live look at the golden gate bridge and you can see what it's like all the way across the span. very nice drive right now. the bay bridge also equally as clear. no problems. no problems down the east shore freeway and it's clearly visible all the way through oakland, berg berkeley and emeryville. 880, both sides have equal volume and no slowing all the way into the south bay, guys. back to you. a san jose man now accused of faking his own kidnapping so he could go gambling. the 25-year-old man allegedly told police he was bound, gagged and robbed after the leaving a san jose liquor store monday night. he said his three kidnappers left him in a shed in a rural

part of san joaquin county. he then escaped, found a car and drove until he found police. the truth really surfaced after police found security footage of martinez gambling at a casino during the time he claimed to be kidnapped. could be a story tell are, though. it's 5:20 right now. today bay area students will be getting a lesson on the environment from a famed ocean explorer. he is stopping by the marine mammal center in sausalito and will talk about protecting our oceans from pollution. about 100 students from several bay area schools will be attending the event. jean-michelle is the son of jacques cousteau. 5:20 right now. coming up, the nfl -- the league is blowing its lid over niners quarterback alex smith was caught wearing. we'll let you know the price he'll have to pay. plus the giants melky cabrera may be suspended for

welcome back, everyone. take a look at this live look. space shuttle "endeavour" high in the skies. it just took off this morning as it's making kind of an across-the-country trip. a little shaky as they're trying to capture is there. it's going to be making its way over the bay area and you'll have a chance to see it fly live over the golden gate bridge and moffett field. we'll give you the details coming up. pretty cool. 5:23 right now. if he wins it, melky cabrera will most likely get to keep the national league batting title. major league commissioner bud selig said yesterday we generally don't interfere in that process.

cabrera is serbiving a 50-game suspension for a failed drug test but still leads the national league in batting average. he is seven points ahead of andrew mccutcheon. >> that's interesting. 5:24 right now. take it off or pay the price. the nfl warning niners quarterback alex smith to stop wearing a san francisco giants hat. here's why. smith started sporting that hat in postgame interviews this season and that is until the nfl said, hey, you've got to take that off or pay a $15,000 fine. okay. under contract players can wear only nfl-sponsored paraphernalia 90 minutes before and 90 minutes after a game. >> i didn't know that. that's interesting. >> and that's in place just to make sure -- it's to make sure they don't promote other products. but the giants, come on. >> well, we know who he supports at least. let's check in with rob right now. he's in for christina this week. and the cooler temperatures, fall, right around the corner.

>> it's been feeling like fall pretty much through the week. in the mornings, they have been chilly. santa rosa 45 degrees. 46 in napa, 55 san francisco. still got a sea breeze out there this morning. but the winds not quite as strong in some of those east bay valleys and that means we'll see warming for tomorrow. today 60s and 70s for most of the bay area, 72 san jose, 68 in oakland. and yesterday tomorrow, east bay, tri-valley, you'll see some warming before we cool down and turn breezy this upcoming weekend. we're looking at construction for 880 which moves smoothly but we're picking up the volume. through downtown there may be some slowing as you're tapping through the cone zones. look at that green on our sensors. the east shore freeway moves smoothly to the bay bridge. we have a couple of incidents. we're looking at an earlier accident 24 eastbound at 680. the accident has cleared but a sweeper has been called because there's debris in the roadway after the earlier crash. no major injuries and again all lanes are open. watch those sweepers for the next few.

good morning, i'm bob redell. we're live here in oakland with breaking news. an 11-year-old boy has been sent to the hospital after a drive-by shooting at his home hits him while he's asleep in bed. that story coming up. and a warning for women this morning in palo alto after yet another sexual assault. i'm christie smith. we'll have that story coming up and what women should know. and we're watching another morning where you'll want to bundle up as you head outside. cool temperatures today but a warming trend in your seven-day forecast. we'll have a look at that straight ahead. and if you're heading to the bay bridge toll plaza, we have a new incident to report. i'll bring you those details in just a couple of minutes. and right now we bring you a live look outside over san francisco. that is the bay bridge. smooth flowing out there right now. we'll take you all over the bay area coming up on this thursday, september 20th. this is "today in the bay."

good morning and thanks for joining us. 5:30 now. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm jon kelley. good morning, everybody. we are following breaking news out of oakland this morning. that is where police are right now investigating two shootings that left a total of four people injured overnight, including an 11-year-old child. bob redell is live in oakland with the latest on this investigation into a child being shot. bob, we're hearing you had a chance to actually sit down with his parents? >> reporter: well, we spoke to his brother and sister. good morning to you, jon. we're outside the house here on macon road in oakland where they tell us around 1:00 this morning, they woke up to the sound of gunshots. they believe it was a random drive-by shooting. 16 bullets entered their home. you can see some of the bullet holds right here. they are telling us it was a .38 and .45 caliber handguns that delivered these shots. a couple of these bullets traveled through this front

wall, a bedroom door and through another wall and into the chest of an 11-year-old who was asleep in his bed. the way his sister and brother said, he awoke screaming, running around the house, scared, crying, was bleeding with a hole in his chest. he is at oakland children's hospital with his mother. we understand he was talking at the time and they were able to calm him down on the ride to the hospital. they don't know what his condition is right now, but the gist we got from talking to his brother and sister is the sense that they think he might be okay. let's hear from them right now. >> what would you say to these people? >> they're crazy, man. why you all doing this for? we didn't do nothing to you all. you're hurting our family and we didn't know nothing to your family. my brother is suffering right now. >> yeah. >> that was luis's older brother, francisco, with a message to the people who shot up their home. this is not the first time there

have been drive-by shootings in this neighborhood. it's the first time this house has been targeted. they believe it was random. but we asked them, do you think you might be moving. they said yes, definitely. of course this is only hours old. right now they're just trying to make sure luis is going to be okay. >> sad reality there. terrifying scene. now, just four miles north of where bob is, another shooting and this one three adults were taken to the hospital and police were called out to seminary avenue near mills college at about 11:20 last night. two of the people shot are right now listed in stable condition. one in serious condition. police are still on the lookout for a shooter. 5:32. a big warning for joggers on the peninsula this morning after it appears a serial groper has struck again in one of the bay area' nicest neighborhoods. today in the bay's christie smith is live where police are asking joggers to take a friend when they go out for that morning run.

>> reporter: good morning. this latest assault happened early in the morning. this trail is quite popular. we saw two joggers this morning but in certain areas it's isolated as well. investigators concerned for a number of reasons, that this guy may be getting more bold. and it could be linked to two other assaults that happened in the area recently. now, there are signs posted along the trail in palo alto. police say yesterday morning a 20-year-old woman was jogging in el palo alto park when out of nowhere a man grabbed her from behind, groped her and tried to pull her down to the ground. fortunately he was able to get away but there are sketches from two other assaults. investigators believe that, again, it's probably the same guy, 25 to 40 years old. he's described as being of east indian or hispanic descent, 5'9". >> priority for us to apprehend this guy and get him behind bars, because we're worried that his behavior is getting increasingly dangerous. >> so what you need to do to

protect yourself. police reminding women in particular not to jog with head phones in both ears. also carry a cell phone with you and try jogging with a friend either in the morning or the evening when you go out. police did search the area and didn't find him. reporting live in palo alto, christie smith, "today in the bay." 5:34 right now. fremont police needing your help this morning, finding a man who entered a woman's home, beat her up and then robbed her. police releasing these sketches of two of the four attackers. all four are hispanic between 5'6" and 5'8" tall. three of the men are in their late 30s or early 40s. one of the men said to be in his 20s and may have silver braces on his teeth. the attack happened back on september 8th. uc berkeley police have a new warning for students. beware of robbers posing on campus as magazine salespeople. a student reported being robbed

by a man selling magazine subscriptions. the victim claims when she refused a subscription, that man and two accomplices threatened her and forced her to withdraw money from a campus atm. another student reported a similar incident later that same day. yesterday the university posting some new warnings and since then, multiple students have now come forward with similar stories. it could have been a lot worse. that's what officials are now saying after a fire at a martinez gas station. cell phone video was taken yesterday night. an suv backed up quickly and then smashed into a gas pump. eventually sparking a fire. firefighters managed to get on the scene quickly within minute. later, the situation they say could have been a lot worse if the station manager hadn't acted so quickly. >> there was actually a lady parked in front of him standing there pumping her gas when everything happened. and as soon as i saw the smoke, i ran out, hit the emergency shut jouf switch and started

not quite as strong as the last two mornings. that sea breeze backing off a bit will lead to warming inland the next couple of afternoons, but notice santa rosa as you switch over to the visibility now down a quarter mile. mike will be keeping an eye on that coming up in just a moment. you can see our temperatures chilly in the north bay. that sea breeze keeping temperatures mostly in the 60s and 70s today but tomorrow at least out towards the tri-valley we'll see a little warming in the forecast approaching the weekend. low clouds around the bay area right now. you'll also probably see high clouds coming in from the south during the afternoon. mostly sunny skies expected as we go through the morning inland. as we head towards the evening, once again we'll see low clouds coming back in. temperatures around lunchtime still cool out there, so a light jacket throughout the bay. even san jose will be fine as san jose's highs will be close to 70 today. tomorrow inland warming. as we go through the weekend, cooling as fall gets started on saturday morning. mike. folks, no slowing as

welcome back and a good thursday morning to you at 5:41. in two closed door meetings today, secretary of state hillary clinton will brief the house and senate on the investigation into the deadly attack at the u.s. consulate in libya. she will likely face some tough questions. libya claims it warned the u.s. three days before the attack. the country says the attack was planned and specifically targeted the consulate. the u.s. has denied both allegations. president obama called it an opportunistic attack, while clinton said there was no

actionable intelligence that an attack on benghazi was actually planned. meanwhile, one of the women in the controversial film that is believed to have triggered the attack on the u.s. consulate is suing. cindy lee garcia says she's received death threats since "innocence of muslim" went viral. she has sued the movie's producer for fraud, slander and emotional distress. garcia has also sued youtube to remove the video. she says the filmmaker lied to her about the movie, saying it was a historical arabian desert adventure film. capitol hill lawmakers expected to grill the inspector general this morning. they're very upset about an operation called fast and furious. this one ended up as a botched sting from arizona to mexico, resulting in hundreds of weapons turning up at crime scenes. brian mooar is live on capitol hill with all the information about what we should be hearing today. brian, good morning. >> reporter: hi, jon. well, the inspector general, his name is michael horowitz, released a scathing report

calling fast and furious that ill-fated gun tracing operation seriously flawed and irresponsibly supervised. but the headline here on the hill is that attorney general eric holder, there is no evidence to show that he knew the specifics of how badly this operation had gone until lawmakers here on the hill started asking questions and sounded the alarm. the person taking the real heat for this has resigned right after this report came out. his name is kenneth nelson. he is the former atf acting director. and the report says that he failed to ask basic questions about public safety. he retired upon the release of this report. one other senior official resigned. more than a dozen are being referred for dplinary action. this according to the report was a problem of failed leadership and bad communication. but lawmakers here on the hill, especially republicans, want to know a lot more about what went wrong and whether the obama administration is somehow to

blame. jon. >> thank you very much, brian mooar. 5:43. after nearly a month recovering in a hospital, a south bay firefighter finally back home today. many say the fact that he's even alive is a miracle. marla tellez is live in san jose with more on this incredible journey and recovery. good morning, marla. >> reporter: it's been a difficult month for 41-year-old frank ryan, no arguing that, laura. good morning. it was actually three weeks ago today that frank went into cardiac arrest while on the scene of the fire. the captain right here at his station, station 1, says he is resting comfortably at home this morning and he will be back to work soon. captain brian endicott says he was one of the nearby firefighters who actually witnessed frank's collapse on august 30th. it was at the scene of a three-alarm fire at st. patrick's church near downtown san jose. the captain says while he has trained to save lives, he never managed saving one of his own. he tells me after being released from the hospital yesterday,

frank stopped by station 1 for a little bit of a visit. he was greeted by a crew that's definitely relieved their buddy is back. >> he's a great guy, he's a lot of fun. loves the fire department. and long-time station 1 guy. >> reporter: is there a little more pep in station 1 now that he's pack? >> i think everybody was emotional. it was just a great day when he walked through the door yesterday to see him come back and visit was wonderful. >> reporter: ultimately frank was never alone. firefighters kept vigil at his bedside in the hospital 24/7 rotating in shifts, which absolutely speaks to the camaraderie of the department here. captain endicott said frank spent in all about an hour here visiting with his crew here at station 1 yesterday. he said he's certainly appreciative of all the support they provided along the way in the last three weeks. he says that he does plan to return to station 1 in a few

more months. live in san jose, marla tellez, "today in the bay." >> happy ending there. wish him well in that recovery. well, today is friday eve. rob mayeda is here to talk about what's happening. >> well, the weather still the last few days of summer here. we just have two left. today probably not the warmer of the two days. we'll get the warming temperatures inland tomorrow but we're starting to see a few changes out there which we'll notice at least in our inland valleys. if you're lucky enough to head out to the giants game, we've got an afternoon start time. game time is 12:45. should be 65 around first pitch time. barry zito taking the mound and the magic number is down to five. right now 40s and 50s outside. it did drop into the low 40s around the north bay. patchy fog too. visibility has dropped to about a quarter mile in santa rosa, so look out for that, moving out of the north bay this morning. winds still onshore but not quite as gusty in fairfield.

that sea breeze will back up over the next couple of afternoons and lead our temperatures to climb on up. today, though, we still have an area of low pressure offshore keeping the winds onshore and you can see the storm track way off to the north. too early to be talking about fall storms coming towards the bay area. we've got low clouds inland and then clearing just like we've seen the last few days for the afternoon and our temperatures again for the afternoon not what you'd expect, especially in our inland valleys. we're looking at low to mid-70s from most places. a few upper 70s out toward the tri-valley, the same in solano county and out towards the delta. the north bay should see 70s around santa rosa. tomorrow we'll get some warming. saturday perhaps a relatively mild day and then cooling and breezy. as we go through the weekend, temperatures cooling off early next week. we're taking folks out for a live look at oakland, 880, where we're traveling northbound with the taillights past the

coliseum. i just minutes ago got a report of a car fire at the off-ramp so chp still arriving on scene. a note if you're traveling north up into downtown oakland, that could be an issue. right now we don't see any slowing. again, car fire reported at the off-ramp for 23rd. now, we'll look to the maps and show you how things are shaping up. actually we'll look at fremont first. this is also 880 past the truck scales. north is moving lightly through fremont and up toward oakland. the southbound side into the south bay picks up the volume a tad bit but no major concern. now we'll look at the maps. an easy drive. a little slowing northbound as the volume builds for 101 just north of 680 and approaching 880. south 880 slows a bit but we tend to see that just before 6:00. it should sort itself out. now the surface streets showing a little build for the south bay. we do have westbound 580 through livermore and toward the dublin interchange a build. slowing at the interchange itself and also coming out of the altamont pass.

580 westbound, no big concerns. another live look over to the peninsula where we're looking at 101. here's construction at university, but notice it's behind the barrier. we don't lose any lanes. it's a distraction, though. keep that in mind. back to you. well, the family of a teen shot and killed by a san francisco police officer will be holding a rally today on what would have been the boy's 16th birthday. derrick gaines was shot at a gas station back in june after police say he reached for a gun that had fallen out of his waist band. investigators later determined the gun was not loaded. the department has ruled it a justifiable shooting. the teen's family, on the other hand, they disagree and they have filed a suit against the city. the rally and that march starts at 4:00 this afternoon at the arco gas station where gaines was shot. back home safe and sound. the san francisco cellist has his instrument back. it was stolen from the san francisco conservator of music on sunday.

it is a sight up in the air right now. space shuttle "endeavour" is taking off on its second leg of its cross-country farewell tour. the shuttle lifted off from houston less than an hour ago. today it will be making

low-level flyovers at the white sands test facility and other nasa locations in new mexico before finally touching down at edwards air force base in southern california. now, "endeavour" will also make a high-profile appearance above the skies right here in the pba area tomorrow morning. that will include a fly-by over the golden gate bridge and moffett field as a special tribute to all the workers at the nasa ames research center. scientists there actually train shuttle astronauts, developed shuttle design and perfected that all-important heat shield. as many as 10,000 people are expected to get together, some very close friends, to gart at moffett to watch this. a fly-by expected between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. now, the space and science center is holding an event that starts at 8:00, if you're willing to pay $15 for that. crissy field on marina green should be a very nice vantage point to check this out and

among other things own the dixie company. scott mcgrew says two stanford grads will take their company public today. >> good morning. yeah, they hope to raise $75 million in its ipo. it will start trading on the new york stock exchange this morning. we expect the founders to ring the opening bell. now, 75 million with an m is a small ipo but it's worth mentioning. last night's giants/rockies game was the first where you could use the new iphone pass book to show your ticket. by all accounts it worked just fine. add to that, the giants won. the mets, red sox and kansas city royals also accept the apple pass book. meanwhile the lines continue to grow outside of apple stores. i'll be out live with them there tomorrow morning. samsung, whose phones already do many of the things the iphone 5 will do, once again taking the opportunity to tweak apple. >> the headphone jack is going
