see fog on a weekend as big as this one. >> 15 minutes ago it was so clear. >> good morning to you. 48 degrees in novato. 46 to start you out at napa. chris sa right on point. a lot of people headed to the city by the way. a lot of people as we head throughout the weekend. look at how many events are happening in downtown san francisco. golden gate park. you have the biggest blue grass festival happening. americas cup, world cla racing and fleet week. we have the columbus day parade and the giants are at it. the first playoff game in downtown san francisco. we head throughout the evening. a lot happening there and live coverage on traffic. all morning long. let's look at the forecast. i think the cloud cover is going to clear in time for the racing today. 67 degrees at 4:00 p.m. on the bay. americas cup world series. you will get the wind and that makes for interesting action on

the bay. highs will be comfortable and the heat wave is 107 degrees on gilroy. just 74 degrees. cooling off. wait until you see the seven-day forecast. >> as long as it's past the weekend, we will take it. >> the bay's big weekend is under way and going to be spectacular. from the marina grown to golden gate park, almost every point in between, you will find something. a live picture of san francisco where an estimated one million people are expected to show up for a weekend of blockbuster fun and that is the toll plaza. boat racing and baseball and football and ariel acrobatics. we have it for you and team coverage as well. we begin with today in the bay's arturo santiago at marina green where crowds are expected. we don't want to see that. >> not really. i tell you there is so much going on that it's going to be

tough to list all the things to do. before we get started, i wanted to show you how the day is starting off in san francisco. you can seat golden gate bridge peeking out of the fog there. i'm not sure which way it's moving. it seemed to move beyond the bridge and it's a beautiful picture and a great start to this saturday morning. we are right where the americas cup village is and the races won't start until later after a full day of events. we are in the middle of fleet week and this morning the highlight will be the parade of ships which starts at 11:00 this morning. the ships will parade under the golden gate bridge on the way to the respective piers. the ships from the coast guard and a san francisco fireboat. the fleet week airshow featuring vintage and high tech aircraft with stunt planes and rescue aircraft. the stars are the blue angels

and they will be thundering over the bay from 3:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon. then on to americas cup racing. the world series racing. the match race semi-finals will start after 4:00 in the afternoon. the fleet racing will start before 5:00 and then the finals will start before 6:00 this evening. with so much going on, it will be hard to stand still at any time today unless you do get caught in the traffic and that should be an adventure all its own. the americas cup village opens at 10:00 this morning and again the fleet week parade of ships starts at 11:00. a lot to do today. people have so much to choose from. live at marina green, today in the bay. >> thank you very much, arturo. from the skies to the baseball diamond, it is a bay area baseball lover's dream. of course the giants and the oakland a's season today and here we have amy gutierrez live

at the park with a look at what's ahead for the san francisco giants in game one against the dreaded cincinnati reds. >> reporter: the dreaded might be strong. the reds will present a challenge to the san francisco giants of 2012. matt cain struggled in the regular season going 0-2 and gave up eight earned runs and four were via the long ball. matt cain is stellar and having a career season. a career high in strike outs with 1.93. he will use not having a great regular season as motivation to get to this team early in game one of the mlbs. yesterday after practice he said he just needs to make quality pitches. announcing the giants's 25-man playoff roster.

underdogs. jared parker, the starting pitcher that takes the mound today has been able to handle big game pressure. he has a calm demeanor on the mound and 3-0 against the texas rangers and in september, he beat the angels in a sold out stadium and allowed one run in the first ever start in the big apple. jared parker proved he can stay poised in big game situations. he is excited for the opportunity to take on the tigers in game one of the alds. he had a chance to catch up to justin verlander, the reigning mvp and cy young. he said the a's are a scrappy bunch and the a's the last time they faced them was one of the toughest matchups they had. it could be an interesting game in detroit. back to you. >> thank you very much, casey. amy and casey are part of the team at comcast sportsnet, the best spot for pre and post-game

. >> waking up on the east bay, this is what you will see. if you are rooting for the a's, they are in detroit. the highway patrol is investigating a deadly crash in fremont. a car hit the center divide at the off-ramp around 1:00 this morning. all lanes on southbound 880 were shut down while officers investigated. investigators are looking for the driver who strug and killed a tuesday who was walking on highway 87. the highway patrol said a vehicle struck and killed the pedestrian on highway 87 southbound near the park avenue exit around 8:30 last night. the chp is not releasing the identity of the man until the family is identified, but they say he is from san jose. they were able to speak with the witnesses and get a better picture of the vehicle involved

in the hit-and-run crash. if you know about the accident, you are asked to call san jose police. >> a rude awakening for drivers across the state. gas prices making a painful jump overnight. people in pacoima near los angeles waited in long lines to get lower price gas at a costco store. yesterday afternoon the cars were more than a dozen cars deep and spilled out on the roadway. the average for a gallon of unleaded in california is $4.61, the highest price in the country and also tying the state record set back in 2008. california gas prices are expected to increase for several more days before they level off. >> still ahead on today in the bay, american airlines bumpy ride and what messy passengers may have done to cause the cancellation of dozens of flights. >> the fog is rolling in. what does this mean for your plan for the bay's big weekend?

looks like the area of low pressure will sit offshore for most of the day. that's the good news. a little low and it will mix up the atmosphere and keep the fog from settling to the surface. this is the sunshine we are expecting. 69 degrees in san francisco and 67 in fremont and 70 degrees today in san jose. let's get to the fun stuff. we have a rivalry on the morning

show. of course i have the orange and black and big giants fan. chris sanchez is an a's girl. we will talk both forecasts because we are proud of them both. both bay area teams included the. it will be breezy in san francisco. 62 degrees at 7:00 p.m., the good news is that wind could help to take the ball out to mccovey cove. getting a splash down on the part of the giants. comerica park will be chilly. first pitch at 6:07 eastern time as the oakland a's take on detroit. heading out for the weekend, things stay calm. no major changes here as we head throughout the next few days. a few showers north of the bridge tuesday into wednesday and look at the 70s. can't beat that this time of year. no ac, no heater necessary. over to you. >> very awesome.

>> it will be nice to see both teams in the world series. i guess we should hold on to our seats. if you are flying american airlines, hold on to your seats. the airline has been forced to cancel dozens of flights and the fix is on. the problem is loose seats. a flight from sfo to miami is among the flights canceled yesterday. the airline blames wear and tear, poor design and even passengers spilling soda. the airline said all seat repairs will be finished by today. pick your pleasure. giants playoffs, 49ers, blue angels and something for everyone on this busiest weekend of the year. it is still amazing to watch the americas cup. today in the bay has an exclusive look. this means a big day of racing.

o a day of racing where we saw olympic swimming, natalie coghlan with new zealand and one of the winningest skippers taking a fleet racing competition. we saw the winningest skipper in the history of the americas cup. supporting the giants with the sf logo on his boat and what looked like a victory, there was confusion at one of the marks. he had not correctly rounded and did not finish. the red team advances to the semi finals on the oracle team crew and taking out in the day's second match race until the final four and the finals of match racing set for saturday on the bay. keep in mind we will have the finals right here on sunday afternoon and on saturday evening in prime time, the count down to the cup and all the things that make it so

intriguing into 2013. back to you in the studio. >> thank you very much. this late rush of summer weather has been the perfect opportunity for a very special group of sailors to extend the season on the bay. they are people who served our country who don't always get to enjoy all it offers. one east bay woman wants to make sure at least once a year they do. she started the annual wheelchair regatta in alameda. garvin thomas has the story in this morning's bay area proud. >> we have boats too. >> it is the last saturday in september with the wheelchair regatta in alameda. at the helm as always is margo brown. they have a little more room. >> if she is to make this year a success, she is to organize and

be thorough and decisive. there is such an event and that's thanks to another one of margo's qualities. we will continue to do it. it has been physically possible for 16 straight years. this year close to 300 veterans are coming from homes and facilities all over northern california. margo gathered more than 100 volunteers to greet them and escort them to the docks. >> how many wheelchairs can you accommodate? >> is everybody ready? >> wheelchair and all, replace them gently. on to 30 differentuates. the skipper of each boat offering to take their honored

>> good morning. looking live there at marina green where folks are getting an early swim on before all of this weekend's activities. they range from the ground to the sky to the waters. anything you could want you will find it this weekend in san francisco. thank you for joining us. it is a big weekend and you really can't say that's not for me. there is something for everybody. >> there is. count on a lot of traffic and ways to get around the traffic throughout the day. chris is right on the money. you have fleet week and americas cup world class racing and the giants first playoff game and the 49ers are in town. everybody is included this weekend. this morning temperatures are cool. i don't know how the people are jumping into that water. that is chilly. that will wake you up. here's where it gets interesting. you see the showers lurking offshore. what does it mean for the

forecast? not a lot. this area of low pressure will sit out in the pacific and not impact us all that much. it will keep our wins strong enough for the fog to settle to the surface which is great news. you want to go out and check out the blue angels. this will be the warmest weekend day to do so. 67 in fremont. 75 degrees and perfection in livermore and 72 degrees in santa teresa. things are going to change over the course of the big weekend. we want to take you through the changes. stay tuned for the seven-day forecast. showers on the way and it's about time. >> we can use them. the bi's big weekend is under way and an unprecedented number of events are set for the first weekend in october. a live look at san francisco where an estimated one million people are expected to make the trek into the city for boat racing and street fairs and ariel acrobatics. live team coverage beginning with today in the bay.

arturo is at san francisco's marina green. there the crowds will be focused up on the skies? >> yeah, it will be exciting up in the skies and down on the ground watching the boats in the water. we showed you the picture of the people jumping into the water. i can't tell you how cold it is, but i'm chilly on the shore here. i want to show you the picture of the golden gate bridge with the supports just peeking over the fog. just a beautiful picture and a beautiful way to start the day. you think just the americas cup may be enough for one day, but the reality is there is so much more than just those two enormous events. let's take you through this chronologically. we are in the americas cup village. the village opens at 10:00 this morning, but the americas cup world series racing won't start until later. the first big item on the agenda is the fleet week parade of ships at 11:00 this morning.

an aircraft carrier and destroyers and ships and the fireboats are all going to sail under the golden gate bridge to the designated piers. from 12:30 until 4:00, we will be looking to the skies for the fleet week airshow. there will be vintage and modern aircraft with stunt planes and rescue aircraft and the stars of the show are the blue angels and the precision flying team. the performance is scheduled for 3:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon. then it's on to the world series racing. first the match race semi finals are the one on one races that starts after 4:00 and the fleet racing with all 11 boats start before 5:00 in the afternoon. the match race final will get under way just before 6:00 tonight. that is a mouthful. undoubtedly going to be one unwanted spectacle, all of that traffic. my advice is plan ahead and leave early. live at marina green, i'm arturo

santiago today in the bay. >> both sides of the bay are buzzing about baseball. the giants and the a's open playoff season. amy gutierrez is live at at&t park across the city with a look at what's ahead for the giants in game one against the cincinnati reds. hi, amy. >> reporter: hi. thanks so much and the reds are definitely going to present a challenge for the san francisco giants. matt cain named the game one starter a while back. it was an easy choice for the skipper given that cain has been their horse. cain did struggle against the reds in the regular season at 0-2 and gave up eight earned runs and four were home runs. that was over 13 innings. fans are definitely going to recall that matt in 2010 postseason did not give up an earned run and that's who the giants are expecting to see in game one of the mlbs.

cabrera and reigning cy young and justin verlander taking the game. he is 2-0 and had the chance to catch up with josh reddick. he likes the approach the a's have against verlander. >> i think it was up to 120 pitches. if we can do that, score one or two, keep a lot of zeros off the board and we will be all right. we have to leave the pitches over the plate. we did a good job and capitalize with the runners on. we can keep them over the plate and the balls will be just fine. >> there is big news out here in detroit. anderson who is traveling with the team is on the active roster. he hurt his right oblique in his previous start that came here in detroit against the tigers. he will be expected to pitch in this series. that's a big boost for the a's.

. >> good morning and looking live at san francisco at the fog that is sitting on the water. should not be a factor by the time the blue angels take to the skies. on the hunt for a burglar. a sketch was released of a burglar leaving the scene of a crime. a man resembling this sketch robbed a home around 8:30 wednesday morning near oregon expressway and 101. the homeowner briefly left to run an errand and then that's when the burglar hit. when she returned she noticed a man getting into a black four-door bmw parked near. palo alto had a rash of burglaries. so far this year there were 160 burglaries, a five-year high. much more ahead on today in the bay. no shortage of ideas of what to

. welcome back. a beautiful shot from the san francisco bay this morning. you will see we do have fog out there. whatever fog did develop is not going to last long. we have a gorgeous day shaping up. we are at the coolest point of the day and crisp in the north bay. 47 degrees in santa rosa. 46 in novato and 56 starting out nice and comfortable in the city by the bay. all the action is happening for the bay's big weekend. taking you down south and 54 degrees this morning in sunnyvale. here's where it gets interesting. we have an area of low pressure. it's just offshore. look at the showers. very close in the bay area, but it doesn't lock like they are going to push in. we stopped the clock for ow the futurecast. look at this. almost completely clear conditions over san francisco. palo alto.

m marine layer out in the pacific. i am concerned about the fog becoming a problem for the blue angels. we stop the clock for you at 5:00 a.m. also adding the chance for showers late or tomorrow. so your best bet is going to be today if you are going to hit the action. it works out like this. 69 degrees in san francisco and 70 in san jose. around 75 degrees out in livermore. you will be comfortable in santa cruz at 67. i think all the action will be pointed right at san francisco. one of the reasons why, our own giants and nbc bay area is the proud home of the san francisco giants. they did it. they are in the playoffs. we got two games tonight and both teams included and the weather will hold up. dicy in detroit where the a's will be taking it to comerica park. they had a system roll through
