5:01 am
right here behind me in pittsburgh, near an ihop restaurant where the alleged car jacker lost control, smashed into a tree here. it looks like if that tree weren't there, it's possible they could have crashed into the restaurant which actually was open at the time. it started last night with antioch police receiving a report of a car jacking of two people at tenth and g streets as they left the restaurant. they were assaulted by a man and a woman and suffered minor injuries. police got another call of an accident, a car accident on contra loma. the driver was seen leaving. pittsburgh police then spotted that car. there was a short chase through the streets. and the driver lost control and crashed here. 41-year-old antioch resident isidor galley was arrested and

president obama, mitt romney, clashed over a number of issues last night. sometimes giving off the sense they just don't like each other. political science professor joins us to talk about this. thanks so much for getting up early. jim, a much different tone than the first debate. who do you think came off the best? >> it was very contentious. i think they both came out with the intent of winning. i think probably barack obama helped himself a little more certainly than he did in the first debate. i think his performance in the first debate was panned as being flat and he needed to come out with some energy and really try to set the tone for the debate. i think he probably feels pretty good about his performance today. we'll have to see if it stops some of the gains that romney had made over the last few weeks. >> now, mitt romney getting a little bit of flack on twitter for his answer on a question to workplace equity for women. let's listen. >> serving as governor of my

state, because i had the chance to pull together a cabinet, and all the applicants seemed to be men. i went to my staff and i said, how come the people for these jobs are all men? they said, these are the people that have qualifications. said, gosh, can't we find some women that are also qualified? so we took a concerted effort to go out and find women who had backgrounds who could be qualified to become members of our cabinet. i went to a number of women's groups. they brought us whole binders full of women. >> they're going to be fighting for those binders full of women, those female voters. did the comments hurt or help him? >> i certainly don't think they help him. i think the comment binders full of women is already something that's blowing up on twitter and facebook. it's one of those bumper sticker ready sort of phrases. i don't think it helps. the question was about pay equity for women. he was talking about going through binders full of women
5:06 am
for his cabinet in massachusetts. he made some other comments such as "we want to have flexible hours for women." so they can go home and cook dinner for their family or something of that nature. i don't think those comments really help him with the women vote. certainly, i think president obama will exploit those comments over the next few days on the campaign trail. >> as for president obama what about any mistakes he made during last night's debate? >> well, i think the first question was from a college student who is concerned about what job he'll be able to get. his first response was to talk about student loans. he referred to manufacturing jobs. factory work. which i think most students who are going to college are actually looking for different types of jobs than that. i think the response is more tailored for voters in ohio rather than the person would asks the question and i think that was a little bit off topic or off tone. >> both candidates as well, they
5:07 am
had to get their point across. thank you for joining us. from hard-hitting politics to some baseball heavy-hitters. game three starts in about eight hours. the big question, will mother nature being playing ball? >> our sports analyst live in st. louis. how's the weather out there? >> right now, it's unbelievable. looking on the temperature thing, it's 63 at the stadium. they put the tarp on after batting practice yesterday. they're expecting a ton of weather, come around noon. game time, it's supposed to hit really hard. it could be a long game tonight. >> there's always a concern with your starting pitching. when you have the possibility of rain. both clubs have to deal with that. they'll talk to us about what the situation is. both managers, both clubs, general managers.

5:43 am
at a rally in chesapeake, virginia, in the norfolk area, with comedian dennis miller and country singer lee greenwood, you might remember, "proud to be an american." later, another event closer to the d.c. area with miller and country music singer andy griggs. so romney try to make the rounds in a state where we've seen his poll numbers start to increase. he's closing the gap there. he's putting some resources into virginia today as well. laura. >> very interesting, thank you, tracie. last night's rematch was kind of like ali/frazer in a heavyweight bout there. neither side about to pull any punches. >> have you looked at your pension? mr. president, have you looked at your pension? >> i don't look at my pension. it's not as big as yours so it doesn't take as long. i don't check it that often. >> let me give you some advice.
5:44 am
look at your pension. you also have investments outside the united states. >> joining us this morning in santa clara university political science professor jim cotrell. both sides made some strong points last night. >> i think round two went to obama. he accomplished some of the things that he wanted to do. he had more at stake after the first debate. i think he needed to come out more energetic. he's probably very satisfied with his performance. mitt romney probably is fairly happy. but i think probably obama had more to gain. so from that perspective, i think he probably came out ahead. >> definitely a lot of action to watch last night. the president was specifically called out about the terrorist attack on the u.s. consulate in libya. let's take a listen to his response. >> what went on here -- >> secretary clinton has done an
5:45 am
extraordinary job but she beiwo for me. i'm the president. i'm always responsible. nobody's more interested in finding out exactly what happened than i did. >> professor, the question is, do you think the president said enough to satisfy those all-important undecided voters? >> i think he conveyed a sincere, you know, concern for our personnel overseas. he really tried to take responsibility and sort of have a harry truman moment. you know, the buck stops with me. from that perspective, i think he reached some voters. mainly what he did was probably energize democrats and get them more excited. >> the consensus shows romney takes round one. obama a slight edge in round two. do you think really last night was it a game changer for either camp? >> i don't know necessarily it was a game changer. i think both candidates can be a little bit satisfied and take away some things from that.
5:46 am
i think in terms of the foreign policy question, back to that last clip we looked at, i think the more romney asked questions about benghazi, it gives obama an opening to talk about some of his successes as well so when he takes responsibility and says the buck stops with me, he can also remind voters things like al qaeda being on the run and getting osama bin laden. we'll see, time will tell if the polls respond to this, and if he gets some help in swing states. >> a short window before round three. monday, the final time. professor, thank you. election day just around the corner. >> getting close. >> we sure are. we've got your full coverage here. also, always have the full coverage when it come, s to the forecast. >> take it away, young lady. >> 5:46 now with this picture

over san jose. our giants -- i'm going to preview a little game-time forecast. i think we're going to see delays and potentially a rainout. 52 degrees in nevada. 63 in sincen beach this morning. cool conditions down south as well. right around 55 degrees for livermore. we have a lot of moisture mostly confined over the sierra nevada. off shore winds are going to warm us up and bring temperatures that are very comparable at the coast versus those inland. not a whole lot of separation today between your microclimates in the bay area. let's talk about st. louis. the midwest gearing up for some weather today. the boundary looks like it will
5:48 am
coincide with the first pitch of the game. the potential for strong thunderstorms right over busch stadium. 70 degrees at first pitch. stormy conditions. those stormy conditions are fueled by warm temperatures. this is also the warmest time of the day out in the st. louis region. 68 degrees by the fifth inning. we still have a really good chance and i'm talking 70% chance of strong storms. it's going to be interesting out there. by the ninth inning, that's when things might clear out enough for them to get that ball game on. i would say there's about a 50% chance for rain delays. we'll have the latest for you. 91 degrees in santa rosa. 82 degrees in san francisco. couple great beach days. we cool off those conditions. 70s return this weekend.
