for the last day above average temperatures and then the rain arrives. we'll sort it all out in your full forecast. >> and if you're planning on crossing the bay, i've got a big note for you. and a live look outside waiting for the sun's arrival. you made it to friday, october 19th. this is "today in the bay." it is straight up 6:00. goodorning, everybody. happy to have you along for the ride. i'm jon kelley. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. we begin with a developing story in san francisco. police are now saying more about an overnight shootout with officers that led to a high-speed chase with a crash an a cab and a suspect on the loose. christie smith joins us live in san francisco with new details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. what a morning for san francisco police officers. they tried to pull over a car and ended up being shot at. they're okay. they didn't return fire. but that car ended up crashing here on eddy street where we
6:01 am
just reopened. i wanted to draw your attention to this. we thought what was in the street was broken glass but what it is is music cds all over the street this morning that may have flown out of the suspect's car when he crashed. this started around 2:00 at eddy and laguna as officers tried to stop a cadillac with a burned-out bulb over its license plate. that ended blocks away at eddy and franklin. that's where the driver blew through a red light and was hit by a taxicab. the cab was going so fast it hit a parking meter and kept going halfway down the block. the officers didn't follow right away but caught up and they were certainly rattled. >> it's a lot to go through. it takes a while to process this through your brain and realize what happened. even as time goes on throughout the day, they'll probably still think of what happened. it takes a lot.
6:02 am
>> reporter: now, the two people that were inside that cadillac jumped out and ran, so officers not only shot at but had to chase these two suspects on foot. they caught one of them. they think that person is the passenger. they say the driver is still out there somewhere. still not sure why these two reacted the way they did, but they tell me that cadillac was not stolen. reporting live in san francisco, christie smith, "today in the bay." also new this morning, firefighters on scene looking to the cause of an overnight house fire in san jose. this one started in the attic of a home on ross park drive near cherry and branham in the cambridge neighborhood. everybody inside that home was able to get safely. the cause of this fire remains under investigation. now continuing coverage of the giants postseason push. >> foul ball, carpenter is there. cardinals win game four and lead three games to one. >> this morning once again it is

do or die for the giants or else the card analysinals will be heo the world series. it's torture all over again as the giants try to stay alive. >> the giants prove they don't wake up until their backs are against the wall. gentlemen, it's do or die time, let's wake up. we're covering this big, in two time zones. arturo santiago is live at at&t park but we'll start things out with scott reese. he is live at busch stadium and he has a look at today's starting lineup. scott, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you as well. hard to predict exactly what bruce bochy will do with the lineups tonight. he had hector sanchez catching tim lincecum yesterday and sanchez has been barry zito's catcher for most of the season but it's strange to think of buster posey not behind the plate for two straight days. as for the torture, well, it seemed like two years ago it was in-game torture.
6:04 am
this year it's in-series torture. the giants kid it in cincinnati as they trailed that two games to none and had to come roaring back three games. now a similar situation down 3-1 in the best of seven. the bad news is you go back to 1985 on the dawn of the seven-game championship series, 33 times a team has been down 3-1. only four times have they come back. but again then what the giants did against the reds has never been accomplished so clearly they are undaunted as barry zito takes the mound in a do-or-die situation. obviously the giants 3-0 in elimination games winning three straight against cincinnati. game time just after 5:00 pacific time. of course we're on the air over on comcast sportsnet bay area with your october quest fan fare one hour before the game at 4:00. i'm scott reese. jon and laura, back to you. >> pabarry zito got it done las

time. giants fans are used to these down to the wire ball games. >> torture, but somehow it never gets any easier. arturo santiago is live at at&t park in san francisco where fans are certainly sounding off. good morning, arturo. >> reporter: good morning, laura. yes, giants fans are used to the torture. they say they have been through this before and are willing to go through it again. the san francisco giants are on the brink of elimination, down three games to one in the national league championship series and the fans, the giants fans are looking really for any ray of light. now, a lot of that illumination can come from the recent past. just a couple of weeks ago, the giants were down 2-0 in the divisional series. they came roaring back, winning three in a row for a chance to play for the pennant. the nail biting seems to be a little more intense than it was a couple of years ago. this year's uphill climb seems to be a little bit more steep. fans are a bit more nervous but for the most part they are confident.
6:06 am
>> you've got to believe, you know what i'm saying? it ain't over, you know what i'm saying. they did it once. they went to cincinnati and got three, they can do it again. >> it's always been torture, that's just how it is. we're going to do it. >> again, game five is tonight. we'll say when the giants win tonight we'll have to go through this agonizing anticipation two more times to get to the world series so it's that steely revolve for the fan whose mantra has to be at this point believe. live at at&t park, i'm arturo santiago, "today in the bay." >> we will have continuing coverage of the giants must-win game throughout the morning and all day on nbcbayarea.com. just search the cove. >> as they say no pain, in pain. let's go g-men. christina loren, i know you're putting out positive vibrations. >> i am, i am. but i didn't wake up in the best mood because of the game last night. however, tonight we can all stay up late enough to watch that

a deep breath and look through all of these numbers before making a buy or sell decision. google really blew it on wednesday when one of its contractors released google's numbers right smack in the middle of the trading day. there was bad news inside as well. google's expenses are up, its advertising revenue weak. investors didn't have time for that deep breath. it sent the stock down 10% on wednesday. we're just seeing the stock beginning to climb a bit. it's up about 1.5% in the first few seconds of trading. now, obviously google's financials very complex. the takeaway on them is what we've been saying all week, though. this move to mobile a huge threat for silicon valley. google depending on advertising. fewer people are clicking on those mobile ads. it's the same problem for facebook. they release their financials next week, hopefully right on time. >> thank you very much. right now we have an update to a developing story we've been following all morning long in san francisco. we have a live look near the

foul ball. carpenter is there. cardinals win game four and lead three games to one. 8-3 final tonight. >> it is torture all over again as the giants try to stay alive in the national league championship series. this morning we're covering the story in two time zones. arturo santiago is live at at&t park, but let's begin with scott reese live at busch stadium in st. louis with a look at today's lineup. >> reporter: yeah, laura, the lineup is till to be determined as bruce bochy and the guys many hours away from arriving here at the ballpark. one big question will be hector sanchez. he caught tim lincecum yesterday and has traditionally caught barry zito as well but it would
6:45 am
be unorthodox for buster posey not to be behind the plate for two games. zito was in the same boat a week ago wednesday in cincinnati. he didn't pitch very well, but the bullpen, especially tim lincecum, bailed him out. the giants won that game and came back to win the series. with regard to zito's starts, the giants have won 12 straight games in which he has taken the baseball, so we'll see how it unfolds in this do-or-die situation. the giants trailing three games to one. they would obviously have to win today and two more times at at&t park in order to steal the series from st. louis. game time just after 5:00 pacific. pregame coverage other on comcast sportsnet bay area beginning at 4:00. live in st. louis, i'm scott reese. we'll send it back to the studio. giants fans, of course, are used to these down to the wire games. >> their teams love to do it like that. never make it look easy. they still have gotten the job
6:46 am
done so far. arturo santiago is live at at&t park in san francisco where that hometown crowd is holding on and weighing in on today's ball game. arturo, good morning. >> reporter: they truly are holding on. good morning, jon. every fan that i talked to this morning believes that the giants can get this done. they understand that this is just the torture that they have to endure in order to reach their ultimate goal. now, the giants came roaring back and won three in a row for a chance to play for the pennant. that was just a couple of weeks ago when they were down 2-0 to the cincinnati reds in the division series. when the giants made their magical run to win the world series two years ago, that was a torturous september leading into the playoffs. now, what we do have on our side is that not only do the fans believe that it can be done, the players believe that they can do it. here's what sermg gio romo had say last week after they beat cincinnati three games in a row. >> we're a very gritty and grinding team, very high strung
6:47 am
and it shows in our play. man, man, i'm proud of my team. >> you've got to believe, you know what i'm saying? it ain't over. they did it once, they went to cincinnati and got three, they can do it again. >> reporter: game five is tonight. we're going to take out the "if necessary" when talking about game six and seven. they are absolutely necessary and the giants fans believe that the team will be able to make it back here to at&t park for those two games six and seven. live in san francisco, i'm arturo santiago, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much. we of course will have continuing coverage of the giants must-win situation throughout the morning and all day long at nbcbayarea.com. all you have to do is search the cove. >> what do you think, game time forecast going to be clear? >> it will be clear by game time it does look like. any showers that do roll over busch stadium will be light and they're used to it in st. louis, so it takes a lot of rain, as we did see earlier this week. yeah, let's go, giants. nonetheless, i want to be
6:48 am
optimistic. if it was rained out, they'd have to come back and play the game in san francisco. 6:47 now. taking a live look at a very foggy start in the city by the bay. was we told you, those clouds have dropped. the fog will be widespread between 7:00 and 8:00 this morning. this is an indication of a much cooler day ahead. let's get right to your temperatures this morning as the sun is starting to make an appearance. 57 in sonoma, 57 in novato. 66 mild degrees in san francisco where you broke a temperature record yesterday hitting the 80s. today we're going to shave off almost 10 to 15 degrees from yesterday's highs and it's going to be a very comfortable week. at least for saturday, high pressure is starting to weaken and take a hike to the east. for us that's going to enable the jetstream to dip to the south. we'll see foggy mornings and sunny afternoons and look what heads our way as we get into next week. we stop the clock on your futurecast. we've got a lot of rain to get through on monday morning so count on a slick commute.
6:49 am
low pressure pretty much stays put all week next week so we're talking about widespread rain chances all the way from monday to tuesday. we'll get another wave of moisture wednesday into thursday and temperatures are going to drop into the 60s. so make sure you're ready for that. if you crave sunshine and warmth, today's your last day. get it while it's hot. 81 in livermore, 74 in fremont, 76 in san jose and 70, not too shabby, in san francisco with that warm start. by tomorrow we take your temperatures down more so into the mid-70s inland. 60s return by sunday. you're pulling out that jacket sunday, monday, tuesday and the umbrella as well. hey, no worries, mike and i are already aware of the pattern. we'll be here to guide you through it. good morning, mike. >> we're showing you a new pattern for the tri-valley. we have an accident west 580 at vasco road but first i want to talk about the slowing in the altamont pass. the red shows you speeds down into the 20s adds you're passing this. it's on the shoulder but an added distraction. that's why we see more slowing into livermore. also through livermore.
6:50 am
an early accident that was blocking one lane at the connector to north 680 for a few minutes has cleared. so has the backup so volume is moving pretty nicely. not quite as heavy as we often see on a friday. 880 shows slowing out of hayward and down into fremont and union city. that's the nimitz slowdown between the bridges here of the on the other side of the way we're looking at 280. unusual slowing was in place about ten minutes up north. reports of a motorcycle versus a deer and it sounds like both parties were injured. we have chp on scene. the slowing just cleared up over the last few seconds so i'll let you know if they have any lanes blocked. consider a slower drive just for that portion. live look at palo alto, you see the volume building for 101 north. no accidents reported all the way into san francisco and you're close to the limit for 101. the bay bridge, we have the backup of course. the metering lights are turned on. early backup forming but holding pretty steady, pretty standard

6:52 am
they say the driver sped off, ran a red light and hit a cab on the way. >> given the speed, you can easily see the car ended up almost half a block away. that alone we're lucky someone is not more injured than the taxi driver who just had a hurt hand. it could have been a lot worse. >> reporter: the two people inside that cadillac actually got out at the crash scene and ran away. so not only were officers fired at but they had to chase these two on foot. they say they caught one man, believed to be the passenger, just a couple of blocks away. the driver got out and is still out there on the loose this morning. we asked police what might be behind this whole thing, why they might have reacted this way, and they say at this point they still don't know. reporting live in san francisco, christie smith, "today in the bay." well, the family of sierra lamar today marking a very difficult milestone without knowing if they will ever see their daughter again. today is the missing teen's 16th birthday. sierra disappeared seven months

6:58 am
>> i agree with you on the giants victory. victory on the roads? yes. we're looking at a smooth flow through the south bay. north 101 shows slowing from capital expressway bogging down around the airport. 280, look at this really jamming up around the 880 interchange so that has changed dramatically. we talked about 87 slowing up into downtown and there's 85 from 87 all the way up to saratoga. that's the pattern we've been seeing the last few weeks. i've been telling folks that is the pattern you should get used. to here at north 17 at hamilton there's an accident involving a big rig reported. no injuries but it's taking some time to move that to the shoulder so that is an issue northbound, but the southbound side shows a little slowing heading down into los gatos. now another area, southbound 880. as you're coming off the castro valley y out of hayward, there's a slower drive through union city and fremont. no problems in sunol and pleasanton. the earlier accident sounds like everything has cleared from the dublin interchange. we'll show you also a live look outside coming across the bay. this is the foster city side of
