ah yes, a big giants victory. it is 4:31. i am jon kelley. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. lots to celebrate and lots to prepare for as well. more rain in the works. let's check in with meteorologist christina loren. >> good morning to you. big giants victory and this morning we still have orange, yellow and green on the radar. you really want to travel cautiously in the south bay. that's where we've been getting hit over the past hour. we still have more showers in the forecast. in addition to the showers, we're talking about mountain thunderstorms later on today and very, very cold air that will settle in as we get through tonight into tomorrow. so we have a lot to talk about in your full forecast. 4:31, he's back in action. hi, mike. >> hey, folks, look over my shoulder at the glowing lights. you see the wet roads in san jose like christina is talking about. this is 101 at 680. i'll show you the map and you

see the wet roads, green, and some blue has puddling as well. a pretty smooth drive although there's some slowing. a little flooding reported at some of the off-ramps and now an accident south 101 at lawrence expressway. it sounds like the off-ramp is open. i'll update you in a couple of minutes. well, we're talking about it and celebrating as well, they're going to the world series. in their sixth elimination game the giants pulled out a decisive victory. >> they dropped a hammer in this one. final score 9-0. hunter pence at the plate bases loaded bottom of the third. that's a cardinal error. suddenly bases unloaded. three giants score 5-0. they go on to blow this out winning it running away. not only do they avoid elimination but a sweet trip to the big dance. that's right, they dropped the hammer and it's party time. the final hit of the ball game,

matt holliday's hit was caught by marco scutaro. he ends the series mvp. the giants fans feeling good. >> look at them, they went wild as well, finally getting to celebrate a series victory at home with their team. even pouring rain couldn't bring them down. >> great, baby. beeper down but came back. giants have a lot of heart, baby. it feels good. in the rain, let it pour down, baby. >> i've just got chills. fantastic. i mean this is baseball. this is what we've been waiting for. >> feels good, let it pour down. >> and look at the fans. they really swarmed into the giants dugout to buy all that limited edition number of hats and shirts that went on sale once that win game official. employees rolled out league championship t-shirts and hats.

people couldn't wait to put them on at the end of the game. >> it's awesome, it's awesome. it's going to be exciting to play detroit. it's going to be fun. >> i don't even have any money but i'm buying stuff. now the giants face off against the detroit tigers for the world series title. game one is wednesday. remember back in july the giants had a huge all-star game and helped the national league beat the america league? that victory locked up home field advantage for the national league. the world title now down to a seven-game series. games one and two wednesday and thursday at at&t park. the series moves to detroit for game three an four saturday and sunday. if needed game five will be at the tigers house on monday and then the series comes back to at&t park if necessary for game six and seven next wednesday and thursday. we'll have a live report from at&t park coming up at 5:00.

plus check out our website, nbcbayarea.com. all you have to do is click on everything giants. a little something else going on last night as well. turning to decision 2012, the third and final presidential debate now in the books. now the final push to election day. while overnight polls are giving president obama a clear win in last night's debate, there's still no clear answer on whether either candidate is any closer to winning that election. tracie potts has more from capitol hill. >> reporter: more engaging than the first debate, less contentious than the last, the president's strategy seemed to be painting governor romney as a lightweight on foreign affairs. >> every time you've offered an opinion you've been wrong. your strategy previously has been one that has been all over the map. >> attacking me is not an agenda. >> reporter: the government agreed with president obama on key issues like ending the war in afghanistan and keeping our military out of syria. he steered clear on criticizing on libya after a mistake last

time and he argued sanctions for iran came too late due to weak leadership. >> i look around the world and i don't see our influence growing around the world, i see our influence receding. we can't kill our way out of this mess. >> reporter: governor romney said it's because we've got a smaller military. >> governor, we also have fewer horses and bay nets. >> reporter: what, if any, impact did this final debate have on undecided voters? >> romney just agreed with the president a lot and i was surprised there wasn't more distinction between them. >> i was hoping in this debate that he would have said something that would have encouraged me and gave me the same feeling that i had four years ago but he didn't. >> still undecided with two weeks to go. >> reporter: and now the final push, governor romney in a couple of swing states, nevada and colorado. president obama hits five states over the next two days. tracie potts, nbc news washington. this final debate drawing a big crowd at santa clara

university. while most know who they will be voting for in november, there was several undecided voters in that audience. apparently the 90-minute debate really didn't change anybody's mind and didn't help any of the undecideds lean one way or the other. >> i was a little disappointed with romney's performance. i did not want to hear about his five-point plan again. >> of course obama has the experience of the last four years. in 2008 obama had just about as much foreign policy experience as romney does now. >> we'll be having more reaction throughout the morning. coming up at 5:00 we'll be joined by a political science professor who will highlight some of the key moments from last night's debate. we'll do that for the voters. now election day november 6th. our coverage starts at 3:00 p.m. that day and we'll be on the air throughout the evening until all the major races have been called. all right, this morning how do you dress before you head out the door? better find out with christina

loren. >> just an umbrella that's all you need in san francisco. good morning to you. hopefully you'll put on something a little more than that. did you see all those fans out there in the rain? they didn't even feel that cold air last night. what a great win. 48 in novato, 53 in san francisco where our giants are hopefully waking up with us this morning. 55 in sunnyvale, 50 in gilroy, 55 to start you out in santa cruz. we still have showers coming down. not a whole lot of action anywhere north of fremont. it's all in the south bay and starting to push for the east, enough for a very slick commute this morning. give yourself ample time to reach your destination. overall looking rather dry, just cool and cloudy today. 64 in livermore, 62 in santa teresa, 60 in san jose and 64 in redwood city. coming up we'll take a look at what the giants will be dealing with as they play that first world series game at at&t park.

tomorrow we are expecting more showers. he's back, 4:38. let's check on your drive with mike. >> we'll look to the south bay. the accident at lawrence expressway, the on-ramp to southbound 101, minor injuries reported. it's not a big concern as far as the traffic flow. light volume keeps things pretty light. we overlay the weather data and we have some showers through the area. milpitas more heavy rain as well. getting close to the maze, no major issues. a couple of spots of construction. also reports of some roadway flooding here. 880 at 29th and park. but we also have a couple of other spots that have reported over the last half hour so watch for the residual effect. right now we'll check that rain, guys, back to you. it's 4:39. this morning san mateo county could join the ranks of going

welcome back, everybody. how about a nice shot on this tuesday morning to get your day going. that is a live look over san jose. you see the light there, some traffic rolling out there. mike inouye will be along to talk about that. more rain is on the way, so be ready. the tech world is focusing on apple this morning. the company is expected to unveil a new smaller version of its ipad. shares of apple stock rose 4%

yesterday on optimism about a new product and more sales. business and tech reporter scott mcgrew will be live at that event all morning long starting at 5:00 this morning. check our twitter feed for live updates during the announcement. that starts at 10:00. we can also tell you apple's big announcement not the only thing silicon valley will be watching today. facebook set to release its earnings a little later on. let's turn things over to bertha coombs live at cnbc world headquarters. bertha, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jon. we've got the futures this morning pointing to a lower start but we did that yesterday before a real turn-around late in the day. the dow managed to erase a triple-digit loss. the tech sector which has been under pressure for a week now was really the big catalyst of that rebound. no economic data on tap today but the fed kicks off a two-day meeting. an interest rate decision

expected tomorrow afternoon. expect it to remain unchanged. we'll also get earnings reports. dupont was disappointing, united technology sales were a little light, 3m a little disappointing. harley davidson was good, kpxer better than expected. the dow at the end of the day closing up 2 points to 13,345. the nasdaq adding 11 to 3016. and microsoft is also unveiling some products this week as well. microsoft wants consumers to make more use of their xbox 360. they will announce new apps to connect the gaming console to mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. one lets users remotely control their xbox, surf websites, launch video and other content and send it to their tvs. microsoft is officially

launching windows 8 on friday along with the new surface tablet. everybody is getting into the tablet business. the thing to watch today on apple, the price. if they price it down there around 200 bucks, game on with amazon's kindle fire. >> to be competitive we should expect something in that range, bertha. we'll talk a little later on. thank you very much. we can also tell you a new survey by the pew research center finds younger americans in their 30s doubt they are financially secure enough to actually retire. this is a major shift from baby boomers expressing the most worry. overall retirement worries rising all across all age groups, but this marks the very first time americans so young have been worried about that retirement. this rain never felt so good. >> that's right. that's the mvp of the national league championship series soaking it all in after last

night's huge victory against the st. louis cardinals. look at that. the first major fall storm dumped buckets of rain on at&t park. marco scutaro didn't mind nor did any other players out there. >> that just felt good. >> refreshing. >> you've been calling that rain all day and the giants you were calling for a victory, so you got everything. >> i said showers toward the end of the game and that's exactly what happened. the last thing we would have wanted was a rain delay when we were already up so much. what a great game. all right, everybody on cloud nine here at nbc bay area, the proud broadcast home of your san francisco giants. we are going to have all kinds of exclusive world series coverage, so stick with us. 50s this morning in sonoma and napa. we're at 48 in novato. 53 in san francisco. 55 to start in santa cruz. still tracking some showers. but for the most part the greater bay area is getting an opportunity to dry out.

you can see the showers for the most part are down in the south bay. as we head throughout the morning that's the only place we expect the showers to roll through. we'll see cool sunshine today. a little spotty activity until 9:00 a.m. and after that we'll see cool, cloudy conditions. as we get into tomorrow another wave of moisture comes through it looks like just in the heart of your morning drive so again that will likely slow your commute. keep that in mind, put that in your back pocket for now. we stop the clock right at midnight. that's when we're going to get more shower activity up in the north bay. continue that. stop it at 6:00 a.m. a little bit of action as we meet back here tomorrow morning. by 2:00 p.m. we get rid of the showers at least for the weekend. yeah, look at your temperatures today, though, nice and cool. 64 degrees in livermore, 61 in fremont and just 60 degrees in san jose. as we head through tomorrow, a.m. showers. we're going to clear you out by thursday. friday the sun comes back out in full force. still going to be a little on the cool side. 72 inland friday.

then the weekend arrives. we dry out for two days, get some sunshine. another round of rain on the way so we're getting into that pattern. it's that time of year, guys. back to you. now a follow-up story you'll only see right here on nbc bay area. a los gat owos family fighting back. her 9 and 7-year-old daughters have been picked out of four different schools for their severe nut allergies. this month the school notified edwards her girls could not go back to the school. the district claims they are being forced out because they don't live at the los gatos address provided but edwards believes her daughters are being targeted because of their allergies. >> maybe it's just liability, like it's a big burden to protect them and they'd rather not deal with it. >> do you understand that? >> no. i think children have the right to be in school. >> the family has hired an

attorney to file a discrimination and retaliation lawsuit. edwards plans to take her daughters to school this morning even though she's been told not to. arturo santiago is speaking to that family at this hour and we'll have more on this story with arturo in a live report coming up later on. it is 4:50 right now. the mother of a 14-year-old maryland girl with an irregular heartbeat is suing monster energy drinks saying the supercharged caffeinated drink killed her daughter. the suit charges the california company failed to warn about the risks involved and that as a result the teen slipped into a coma and died after drinking two 24-ounce cans. the company spokeswoman denies any of the products could have caused the teenager's death. an fda spokeswoman says four other deaths have been allegedly linked to the caffeine drink and reported to the agency. still ahead here on "today in the bay," lance armstrong's very first public reaction of being stripped of his tour de

around. the san francisco giants now the national league champs, heading back to the world series once again. be ready for more magic in that. it is 4:54 right now. it didn't take lance armstrong too long to delete references on his twitter page to all those tour de france victories. late last night his biography on his twitter was changed and no longer mentions those seven tour de france wins. yesterday the international cycling union stripped armstrong of all the titles and banned him from that sport for life for his involvement in what the u.s. anti-doping agency is describing as a massive doping program. so far the social media change is armstrong's only public reaction. ready? okay. the american academy of pediatrics calling for cheerleading to be designated as a sport in all 50 states. the spokesperson for the organization says cheerleading has become more acrobatic over the years and the number of injuries has skyrocketed. designating cheerleading as a
