and the conversation of we still got four more games to win. >> excitement turns to anticipation as the giants get ready for game one of the world series. good morning. thanks for joining us. >> good morning, everybody. we have two words for you. game on. just one day to savor that status as national league champions now. the g-men have their eye on the big prize. that of course is a world series title. the giants not the only ones taking the field at at&t park today. we have a team in place as well. christy smith and meteorologist christina loren are live outside the ballpark. we get this party started with comcast sportsnet bay area amy gutierrez, live on the field. one of these gives featuring two mvp contenders, buster posey and miguel cabrera. we couldn't ask for much more, huh? >> you really can't. this is going to be amazing. the first time these two teams are seeing each other in a world

series. i'm just glad we're saying game one and not game seven. so it's going to be fun for fans. if we take a look at the hitting, this is going to come down to not just hitting but who's going to fare better in the batter's box. of course, both teams, detroit especially, has a formidable lineup. the giants, a scrappy lineup. because he was batting .500, guys, you can't disregard prince fielder who's been quiet in the postseason for the tigers but is always a threat. the two big dogs, like you mentioned, miguel cabrera, buster posey. cabrera hit .313 in the lcs. cabrera has been shut down since, batting just .178 total for the postseason. but altogether, the giants won six elimination games to get to this point so nothing is insurmountable for these guys.

"today in the bay's" christy smith is live with a look at this orange transformation. >> good morning. i was really surprised within the last two minutes or so. we're starting to see giants fans wondering around outside at&t park, trying to see if there is any way they can get a look at this world series. some of them walking around the

back. they don't have tickets though. this has turned into a baseball town. we were at the dugout store yesterday. i have to tell you, it looks like the stock exchange, the floor of the stock exchange, people just grabbing anything they could with the sf giants logo on it. the city really has only had about 24 hours to officially get ready for this and to get the ballpark ready for this. one of the keys to all this, though, is trying to keep the field dry at at&t park. crews worked on the infield and brought in thousands of pounds of new dry dirt. after all the rain that we've seen. they used giant vacuums to suck up the water. inside, vendors setting up. restaurants happy. t-shirt makers very busy. now, i just spoke with one man who drove here from fresno on a whim. >> i did my homework and in 2010 there were people waiting in

line at 5:00 in the morning to get just i think three innings from the knot hole in right field. >> of course this isn't a new party for the giants. they're using their playbook from the 2010 world series. more than 1,000 journalists are here this week to cover it. reporting live in san francisco, christy smith, "today in the bay." 6:05. the most famous broken bat in america is now found after getting lost. hunter pence shattered his bat in game seven of the nlcs. take a look. the bat actually connected with the ball three times before the ball took off into the outfield. that bat disappeared after the game. apparently it had been sold to a season ticket holder for about $400 at a game used merchandise stall.

let's check the radar. as you make your way out that front door, we have some showers that could slow you down. for the most part, the showers are right now. located along 101 and 280. that's where you find slick conditions, all the way down from redwood city. i think a lot of this activity is going to fall apart before it makes its way into san jose. as we head throughout the morning hours, we are expecting this to continue to clear. 53 degrees in san francisco. we're at 49 in livermore and 47 in san jose. forecast tells the story of the day. we're only going to reach the 60s, mid-60s inland. 63 degrees bay side. about 59 degrees at the coast today. now, i did tell you i was going to try to sneak in. of course, i'm not going to trespass but i wanted to sneak in and find out exactly why they're opening up this area so early. turns out, it's not for a good thing at all.

"today in the bay" live in the newsroom. >> we told you how 9-year-old ella and her 7-year-old sister sara were turned away from their school tuesday morning. today, the girls will be allowed to go to school after the superintendent has a change of heart. the girl's mother says the district kicked them out of van meter elementary to avoid

dealing with their life threatening allergy, ies to nut. but the official says they were denied because they did not live in the district. the family says they showed proof of residency. a cell tower that could go up in the evergreen neighborhood could be up for debate before the city's planning commission. verizon wants to install the tower near evergreen elementary but parents and neighbores are worried about radiation. tonight's public hearing is set for 6:30 inside san jose city council chambers. mountview now, people concerned there about a busy road near graham middle school will meet tonight to talk about ways to improve student safety on castro street. this month alone, three children have been hit on castro. all three are expected to be okay. that meeting is scheduled for tonight, 7:00, at graham middle school. that's a look at your south bay headlines. right now, some good news at the pump. a little relief for california drivers. that includes bay area drivers.

welcome back. right now, we're watching the skies live over san jose. you can see that foggy look. christina will be along live from the park where we tell you about your weather for all over the area. >> stay out of the water, jon. a popular beach closed following a deadly shark attack. police say a 39-year-old surfer was killed yesterday just off surf beach which is near vandenberg air force base. investigators are now looking at the surf board to identify the bite marks. the attack happened near the same spot where another surfer died two years ago. shark ex-experts believed a great white was responsible then. >> white sharks have attacked people in waist deep water with the majority of the attacks between 10 and 30 foot water

depth because that's where the seals and sea leones are and that's where we are. >> since 1950, there have been 13 deaths out of approximately 109 shark attacks along california's coastline. it is 6:15 now. time for a quick check on the top stories. asking for the public's health to try to find a killer who murdered a mother and two children in sacramento. investigators say the three were found dead in their home and the family car was missing. the father and a neighbor have been questioned by police but so far no suspects have been identified. two girls will be allowed back into school today. the girls were kicked out of the school because administrators say they didn't live in the district. the family says they believe they were kicked out because of their food allergies. their residency status is still under investigation. to see if the giants can keep that magical baseball run

going. they face off in game one of the world series. game time set for 5:00 at att park. a consumer warning for shoppers of barnes & noble. some of its credit card swiping devices may have been tampered with. 63 stores across 9 states including here in california were affected. a federal investigation is under way. yesterday, apple doing what everybody expected, intrucing that smaller version of the ipad. >> scott mcgrew says not a much smaller price. >> that's right. it was the one surprise, the price. well, that, and they introduced ipad 4. the ipad mini though was the star of the show. apple says the least expensive ipad mini will be $329.

that's more money than the price of other small tab lelets it's supposed to compete against. now, apple shares nearly always fall after a big announcement. investigators buy on the rumor, sell on the news. this is a bigger drop than usual. we suspect it's because of the worry over the mini's price. now, apple says it will open up preorders for this new ipad mini on friday. friday. what a strange coincidence. that is the very same day microsoft's competing tablet, the surface, goes on sale. this is the first time microsoft has built a computer of any kind and it's pretty clear apple didn't pick that date randomly. san francisco gamemaker zynga will report its profits today and the news is going to be ugly. we already know they will cut staff. they will shut down games as well. at this point, we don't know exactly what titles. they had a brief shining moment

eastern contra costa county. a plane went down near marsh creek road. witnesses say they heard a sputtering engine noise just before it crashed. the plane was a home built experimental aircraft. a pilot and one other passenger died in that crash. >> also, the fire department is relying on voters to keep its stations open. the county putting a $75 parcel tax known as measure q on the ballot. expected to raise nearly $17 million for the fire department. if it fails, the department will have to shut down 10 of its 28 fire stations over the next three years. the first station shutdowns would start in january. the fire department says that could result in longer response times and more fire damage. 6:34. some good news for drivers. gas prices finally coming down actually quite a bit. here in the bay area, we've seen

about a 20 cent drop. experts predict prices will go even lower just in time for thanksgiving. now, live in san jose with more details. >> here at this arco station, the price of gas is just under $4 a gallon for regular unleaded. it does punctuate the drop in prices. let's look at the bay area numbers. according to the daily fuel gauge report, average prices in san francisco are 4.45 a gallon which is down from last week's 4 .65. and in san jose, prices are already averaging $4.34 a gallon, down from $4.55 last week. there are a number of factors involved in this drop. refineries are coming back online. the winter blend of gas is

cheaper. and people are basically driving less. the statewide average for regular unleaded gas is $4.40 a gallon. it had reached a record high of 4.67 a gallon on october 9th. >> of course it's a good sign, going from $80 to $100. i have a truck that cost $120 to fill up so probably now it will be $95. >> we're in hard times now. a lot of people out of work. people looking for bargains and what not. the prices go down, it's good for everybody. >> now, experts think that prices can go even lower with supplies increasing. they can possibly get down to $4 a gallon. that's an average by thanksgiving. and then average around $3.75 a gallon by the end of the year. let's hope for that. live in san jose, i'm arturo santiago, "today in the bay." good sign. 6:36 right now.

they also have detained the driver. they say the man is not under arrest at this point, though he is being questioned. the question is, did he kill a mother in her 20s and 2-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter? the husband found them covered in blood yesterday afternoon. the couple's 6-month-old baby boy was spared. he was found inside his crib. crying, of course. otherwise, he is said to be okay. detectives say the scene was shocking, even for law enforcement and certainly for neighbors. >> just the fact that it happened. like, 20 feet from our house, you know, literally. because the only thing separating it is the fence. >> they have questioned the husband and he is not a suspect. interesting side note, the victim's sister says her older sister confided in her, saying her family had been threatened and she was scared.

they really punctuate the drop in prices. this is a trend that could continue to the end of the year. can be attributed really to a number of things. refineries are coming back online. people are simply driving less. the statewide average for regular unleaded gas is $4.40 a gallon. the national average is also down to $3.65 for regular unlepded. now, let's take a look at bay area price. average prices are $4.45 a gallon. in oakland, it's $4.34. in san jose, the prices are also averaging $4.34 a gallon. >> it adds up, you know, monthly, yearly.
