another world series title. >> just feel like it's coming here. on the brink of elimination over and over and now we're getting close to it. we have team coverage. bob redell is live outside at&t park where support for the giants has gone global, in a big way. we start things off with comcast sportsnet's jaymee sire at comerica park. jaymee good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it definitely has the feeling of 2010 when the giants went up two games to none on the texas rangers and ended up winning the world series in five games but what a performance last night by madison bumgarner. he was bounced from the nlcs rotation but worked on some mechanics and last night extended his winning streak at 15. that is tied for the fourth longest. >> buster did a great job, defense did a great job. we had them positioned right and it worked out. >> reporter: and the giants
5:01 am
managed just enough offense last night to come away with the win, including the most perfect bunt by blanco in the seventh inning that did lead to a run. game three coming up saturday night. ryan vogelsong against anibal sanchez. voc vogelsong. we know how well that worked out last time. >> jaymee, thank you very much. now that the sear reeds is actually moving to detroit, what the giants plan to do. >> there's actually a lot of things. some will hit the road to follow the team out to detroit, saying the good news, some tickets are actually still available but you actually have to know where to look for them. bob redell is live in san francisco with some insight on this and let you know just how deep you'll have to dig in your pocket to make it to detroit and actually get into the ball game. bob, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jon and laura. you actually have to have a huge
5:02 am
chunk of change if you're going to follow the team to detroit. the team we understand is leaving on a charter flight out of sfo at 9:30 this morning. if they follow the same pattern as they did in 2010, they'll be boarding buses here at the 2nd street gate at at&t park around 9:00 this morning. and in 2010 they did have barricades up here so fans could be standing there. if the players wanted to come over and sign autographs, tt sort of thing, they did. so if you are thinking of saying a farewell to the team wishing them a nice bon voyage as they head to the city, we think 9:00 they'll be boarding the buses here at at&t park. if you're thinking of following them, we found one travel outfit out of massachusetts, sports travel and tours.com, a one game package including flight, hotel and the keep seats, $1275. if you're thinking for two games, you're north of $2,000, three games north of $3,000. bottom line, it is going to cost you some money. we looked at some stubhub
5:03 am
prices. the cheap tickets for just one game on saturday night, $299. most expensive, just over $41,000. that is for a suite. then it goes on down from there, just to the $5,000 range, $7,000 range if you want to be near home plate. we wanted to share this video with you because we found it amusing. if you are stuck on a plane during the world series this weekend, make sure there's live tv. this is virgin flight 210 between sfo and chicago last night. you can see fans are going crazy as the giants won game two of the world series. incidentally, my wife was on a virgin flight wednesday night when pablo sandoval set a new world series record with those three homers and she described it as a party. must be nice. coming up, we'll introduce you -- well, you know these player bus what's interesting about this world series, it's got the most foreign-born players playing in world series history. we'll have a little bit about
5:04 am
that and where these fans are coming from, from very far away just to see some of their hometown boys play. reporting live here at at&t park, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> that was just great video of the virgin flight, bob. thank you very much. party in the sky. partying up there at 30,000 feet. for the record, if you're counting, game three tomorrow is at 5:00 in detroit. good luck to the g-men. it is 5:04, and there are new details this morning in a shocking bay area twist to a deadly stabbing in new york city involving two children and their nanny. overnight we learned the parents of the children who were killed spent many years here in the bay area, an they have close ties with some big names in silicon valley. marla tellez is in our newsroom this morning with the details. this is such a hard story to hear, marla. >> reporter: just awful, laura. good morning to you. a quick search online shows those parents, kevin and marina krim lived in san francisco for about seven years before moving
5:05 am
to new york city just over a year ago. during that time in the bay area, kevin worked for yahoo!. we know that's in sunnyvale and then bloomberg. currently he's an executive with cnbc based in new york. we do have a picture of the couple that we found online. here they are, livewire.com. kevin had just landed at jfk international airport last night after leaving sfo in fact when he learned two of his children were stabbed to death by their nanny. officials say his 38-year-old wife, marina, walked into their upper west side apartment to find their 2-year-old son leo and 6-year-old daughter lucia dead inside the bathtub. their 50-year-old nanny was playing nearby with a knife at her side. >> on the floor of the bathroom is a nanny who apparently had inflicted wounds in her throat. >> reporter: this morning that nanny is said to be in critical
5:06 am
but stable condition. neighbors say they never saw or heard of any problems with the nanny, so still many unanswered questions as to why she would resort to such appear indescribable act. by the way, kevin and marina have a third child, a 3-year-old daughter, who survived the whole ordeal because she happened to be with her mom at a swim lesson at the time. jon. >> my god, that is just beyond tragic. okay, marla, thank you very much. in other news, grief counselors will be at an east bay high school this morning helping students there deal with the death of a classmate. her body was found an san gregorio state beach on sunday. her identity was discovered just yesterday only after a fellow classmate was able to step forward. christie smith is live at albany high school where she was an honor student and also a member of a tennis team there. good morning, christie. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. first thing this morning students will meet with grief counselors to help them cope with this terrible news.
5:07 am
kathy qu was first reported missing way back in the end of september. she was a senior here at albany high school. now investigators have determined that a body found in san mateo county is her. a condolence page for the 16-year-old is up on facebook with classmates and friends commenting on what a nice person she was and she will surely be missed. she was on the tennis team, an honor student with a 4.25 gpa. investigators weren't sure initially who the body was that washed ashore on sunday at san gregorio beach but they got a break from a classmate at albany high school who saw a news report and thought she had this figured out. the coroner, though, still doesn't know how she died but there are no signs of foul play. toxicology reports should be back in about two weeks to shed some more light on that, qiu lived in richmond, she was a transfer student in albany. her family reported her missing september 27th and police had
5:08 am
considered her a possible runaway. richmond police say she was also reported missing in april and located in colorado and then sent back home to her family. reporting live in albany, christie smith, "today in the bay." let's switch gears and check the forecast with meteorologist rob mayeda. >> yeah, it does look like we'll see some of the nicest weather we've seen all week long starting today and taking us into the weekend. it's chilly, though. you'll need a jacket. low 40s this morning. gilroy down to 42. not much wind outside right now but what you're going to notice during the day, winds out of the north helping to clear out our skies and warm up our temperatures, and the storm track which has been sitting over the bay area moving towards the oregon border and moving further to the north for the weekend as our temperatures continue to climb on up. so this morning your kids will need a jacket. by lunchtime you'll see numbers in the upper 60s and low 70s. by the time you pick up the kids from school you'll be looking at
5:09 am
the upper 70s. how about some 80s in the forecast for the weekend? it looks like the warmest days are saturday and sunday. a few extra clouds some tuesday and some ghosty cloudy showers for halloween approaching wednesday. well, we're looking over here to the east shore freeway. over at the maze as you are coming off of 580 and 80, the maze there, reports of a stalled vehicle. i just got the refresh from chp, the reason we didn't find anything no matter how hard i searched, it's out of the lanes. that's good news. smooth drive to and from the bay bridge on the maps. i circled that area. no real slowing. we do have construction crews still going on with two lanes blocked as you're heading northbound toward 23rd so keep in mind as the crews start to move you might see a little slowing coming up. and farther south, let's go past the truck scales and tesla. you're at the limit all the way from the south bay up to that coliseum shot. back to you. it's 5:10.
5:10 am
south bay police on the lookout for a serial bank robber that's hit banks in four cities. we'll show him to you coming up. also the end of that world series along with the g-men championship could bring a decision on the a's plan to move to the south bay. we'll have more coming up. apple disappoints the markets and why you should buy a very expensive airline ticket as well. i'll tell you all about it in business news.
5:11 am
5:12 am
it's time for a check on business and tech. apple says it has met just about every expectation it set for itself in the last financial quarter, but investors are still disappointed. scott mcgrew, what's up with that? >> good morning. and thank you for putting up with my cold, by the way. apple is famous, jon, for setting fairly low forecasts, blowing past them. so when it actually meets its
5:13 am
forecast in a weird way that's kind of a disappointment. apple said it sold fewer ipads than analysts were hoping but you can blame apple to some degree because it's possible fans were waiting to buy that new ipad mini. devices are also getting more and more complex to build, that's cutting into profits. now, coincidentally samsung reported profits too. it's a reminder. we think of samsung as the underdog, but it's not. samsung sold twice as many phones as apple, twice as many phones in the same quarter. let's check in with cnbc, she can rescue me. good morning, bertha coombs. >> reporter: good morning, scott. very interesting, apple having to post this clarification that samsung does not impose on its tablets patents ordered by the u.k. courts but if you read it on the u.k. site for the most part they sort of say it's not as good as ours, that's the
5:14 am
reason why it doesn't infringe on our patent. apple shares this morning are bouncing a bit after taking a big tumble following that quarterly earnings miss yesterday with the ipad sales coming up short. as scott mentioned, part of the fact is the fact that these new devices, the iphone 5, the ipad mini and the ipad 4, if that's what we're calling, that we weren't even looking for, they're more complex to produce and more expensive to a certain extent. preorders for the new ipads began this morning in more than two dozen countries. in the meantime let's not forget microsoft is rolling out its own new operating system, windows 8 today, in one of the company's biggest product launches since windows 95. microsoft is opening 32 temporary pop-up stores just for the holidays to promote and sell windows 8 which features faster boot-up times and connections to wi-fi service. windows 8 is designed to run on
5:15 am
a variety of devices, pcs, laptops, smartphones and the new surface tablet which hits stores today. analysts say 90% of consumers an businesses may wait at least a year before making the switch to windows 8. i know our i.t. department is running behind because they want to make sure everything runs with all of the applications and they want to macsure all the bugs are out. we never went to vista here. we're still on xp. >> and we're still on blackberry. bertha coombs, thank you very much. ask anybody about san francisco-based virgin america airlines. they will smile. it's everybody's favorite airline except when it comes to buying tickets. the company continues to give employees time off. it's those high fuel prices that are hitting virgin america particularly hard. virgin america is privately held so you can't really go through its numbers but the temptation here is to speculate.
5:16 am
people say they want to be treated well on a nice plane, but when it comes to buying a ticket, that nicer airline is 50 bucks more, people settle for the usual airline. that's my suspicion. >> going for the bargains. we're going to go for some tea for you in a little bit. >> with all those high notes, i thought he was going through late puberty. 5:16 right now. rob mayeda is here to talk about a nice forecast. wouldn't be giving people colds out there. >> no, no. this morning is a little chilly, though. i feel bad for scott. the weather is not helping this morning. we've got numbers in the low 40s outside so as you send the kids off to school a good jacket for the morning but we're talking t-shirt weather by the afternoon. 43 in napa, clear skies. 49 san jose, gilroy down to 42 degrees. not much wind out there now but you'll notice around lunchtime the winds will pick up, especially in the hills. we'll get some winds helping to clear out our skies and warm up the temperatures. right now fog not much of an issue.
5:17 am
this happens after you get some recent rain. we get some of that central valley fog that tries to drift into the east valleys. we'll watch that as we go through the weekend. so warming trend begins today. we're looking at numbers by the weekend, 70s and 80s inland. today most of our inland locations getting into the 70s. it looks fine for anything outdoors for your weekend plans but by the middle part of next week approaching halloween, may see some changes. the storm that's been parked over the bay area finally moving north. high pressure will give us 36 hours of an offshore wind pattern so this gives us breezy conditions in the hills and starts to warm up our temperatures, even out to the coast. santa cruz mid-70s today, low 70s around san jose. around the tri-valley you'll see numbers in the upper 70s around livermore and pleasanton right around 4:00 this morning. a little dry and breezy in the hills around santa rosa, 78 degrees today. warmest day of the weekend probably saturday.
5:18 am
sunday close behind. then as we get into the beginning of next week, some cooling temperatures. for halloween you might leave the umbrella on standby. cooler temperatures and maybe some raindrops around trick-or-treat, mike. looking in the westbound 580 direction, where we had the earlier slower, that tire cleared from the roadway without incident but now the slowing starts coming out of the altamont pass heading in toward north livermore. we see the slowing continue to build as the volume continues to build as well. moving down to the south bay, we're looking at your northbound rouds. not a problem right now. there's 101, 87, 85, which has been starting early these last six weeks basically. looking okay so far. looking at construction crews just north of the 280/880 interchange, not a major issue here. we'll move up the peninsula. we're looking at foster city and our approach from the san mateo bridge. a nice, easy light drive.
5:19 am
san mateo bridge will remain open this weekend. no closure. it's been called off for this weekend. palo alto 101 moves smoothly as well all the way up into the city. and 101 in the north bay, you're looking just fine. as we show that i'll let you know b.a.r.t., all delays have been cleared up, guys. back to you. that is good news. a former u.s. senator backering out of settlement talks in the san bruno pipeline explosion following opposition from the city. the city claims george mitchell's involvement would represent a conflict of interest because his law firm represents an insurance airicarrier for pg. he was set to lead negotiations between pg&e and the california public utilities commission. the issue is how much should pg&e pay in fines for the september 2010 blast that killed eight people. south bay police want and need your help this morning trying to identify a suspect in a series of bank robberies.
5:20 am
sunnyvale police say these photos were taken during the most recent heist. that very same man is suspected of hitting five other south bay banks in the last two months. he's also wanted for questioning by police in los gatos, campbell and san jose. the man is described as being in his 30s, medium height, stocky and with a goatee or heavy 5:00 shadow. an attempt to bring the oakland a's to the south bay could be blocked.a lan dispute. san jose made a deal that would allow them to buy land for a new stadium at below market prices but state officials are threatening to overrule that deal and force the land to be sold at market rate. major league baseball officials are still considering whether to allow the team to move to san jose. a decision could be made sometime after the world series. it is 5:21. from the athletics, we go back to the giants. thae that's right, it's time to play ball. we have live coverage continuing from detroit in a matter of minutes. good morning, everybody. how are you feeling on a friday morning? it always feels good heading into the weekend. that's a live look over san jose. a cool start to the day, but meteorologist rob mayeda is along to eltell us it is going be a pretty good-looking weekend. it is one year to the day occupy oakland started and that day came an went in relative peace. several hundred people marching through the streets marking that day. protesters were kicked out of their encampment last october in front of city hall. many of the marchers say that movement which started as a protest to stand up for the middle class may be fragmented now, but overall, it's still going strong. >> obviously it's not as strong as it was. we had 100,000 people with us on november 2nd of last year. we are trying to rebuild.
5:24 am
>> police officers did keep an eye on that rally and march to make sure things did not get out of hand. we can report that the plaza this morning has been completely cleared out, all calm out there. yesterday two people were arrested, but police say overall they were pleased with the outcome. 5:24. oakland police will get some much-needed help next week. governor jerry brown says the chp will deploy officers to oakland and stockton as early as next week. additional officers are meant to help increase patrols in high crime areas and conduct traffic stops. >> it is 5:24 right now. rob mayeda is in for christina loren and he's telling us get ready for a nice-looking sunshine weekend. >> we're starting to see the changes that will lead to the warming this weekend happening outside right now. you might not notice in terms of the temperature, not very warm out there. low 40s in the north bay. you're going to need a jacket this morning. but for most places we'll see temperatures warming at least 30 degrees or so.
