thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm jon kelley. i get pumped up every time we show that. this morning, the city by the bay, bracing for a repeat of that scene. everybody loving that. millions packed the sidewalks, the streets, to celebrate the giants monumental victory. this year, this one starts at the ferry building before heading down market street and mcallister before ending at city hall. we're all ready for it. we have coverage on the celebration. meteorologist christina loren is there in san francisco tracking the weather. stephanie trong is live along the parade route. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. yeah, they are prime-time spots. we are at the start of the parade route. it was just about 10 or 12 people, now there are dozens of

people. some already getting ready with their chairs. good morning. she's a season ticket holder. you've been a fan since -- >> 1965. i started going to the games also because i went to school with rosy marashell so we went to candlestick park to watch the giants play. >> i know two years ago you were not able to make it. tell me why. >> i couldn't do it because my employees -- if i left, they weren't going to do any work, so i was just really upset and started crying because i really wanted to come to the parade. so that's why i'm here today. >> again what does this mean to you? to be here for the parade? >> it means a lot. being a season ticket holder. going to the games and seeing them, you know, become the champions one more time is great. >> i know you're joined by your nephew. welcome, efron, as well.

you got here early too because -- >> i got here early because i wanted to make sure i got to the front. i'm sure in order to see over people, this way, i don't have to worry about anyone jumping in front of me. i'm right here in front. >> great decision. i totally understand. we're about the same height so i got you on that. now, the video shot from earlier. hundreds of thousands of fans expected to come out here. they're not lined up just along market street. they're also at the end destination. that's at city hall. so people saying, hey, make sure to get out here early. they said they were going to be cheering. so they're too excited to go to sleep. back here live, the tip again is get here early, get your spot, take public transit and have fun. >> big or small, doesn't matter, great seats out there. it's not just players and coaches. look at san francisco where the floats are actually being put together for today's big

this is a live look at hoboken, new york. at least 17 states -- sorry, hoboken, new jersey. at least 17 states are seeing the effects of the storm now. this morning, jfk and newark airports are now both reopened but not all flights will be restored. new york's la guardia airport remains closed at this hour. it could take days before travel finally gets back to normal. we're back, tracking the effects of this storm in the newsroom. >> you mentioned a couple airports back in business. jfk and -- the first passenger flight to jfk has arrived. sfo is a different story because a few dozen east coast bound flights are already canceled today so check with your carrier before you head to one of our local airports. we're going to take a look at a

developing story we're following in new jersey. multiple fires are threatening more homes in the peninsula town of bricktown which was hit hard by sandy. at least 14 homes there already destroyed by flames. fire crews are trying to get to the scene, but they can't because so many roads are still impassable. in new york, so many people are still in the dark. look at this photo. snapped from someone across the hudson river. the usual sparking sight is only half lit, this is because some 200,000 lower manhattan customers are still without electricity. given the magnitude of the outages, it is expected to take crews days to restore. city buses are back running today. the subways are not. as our scott mcgrew is telling you, the stock market will reopen in just a few minutes after being closed for a couple of days. mayor bloomberg is expected to ring that opening bell at 6:30.

laura. >> marla, because of sandy, the red cross says 11 states had to capsule more than 100 blood drives. now the red cross in oakland is stepping up to help fill that bay. it's calling for anyone in the bay area who can roll up their sleeves to donate blood. >> you got to help when you can. there's so little from this far away. the next brolood drive wille tomorrow at the california arts in oakland. ex-experiments say the superstorm won't be affecting gas prices here on the west coast. in fact, gas prices have fallen as much as 81 cents a gallon. prices could end up dropping 25 to 35 cents. more within a few weeks. that is some welcome news. according to aaa, a gallon of regular will cost you 4.25 in san francisco. 4.06 in san jose.

4.10 in oakland. we told you about it, the giants victory parade is today. >> with a look at the weather, let's go to christina. a throng of fans are there cheering her on to the forecast. >> that's right. good morning, jon and laura. i know you are giants fans as well. we've got a lot of fans out here all in one spot. now, this guy -- i don't think he's going to need it for the rain. and then i'd like to bring your attention to a very interesting fan that just came up. he actually has a san francisco giants cape on this morning. and some sort of -- people are doing it big this morning.

i've seen a ton of people dressed up like giants. your temperatures are going to be comfortable. we're talking about the upper 60s. temperatures are going to be in the low to mid-60s at the bay. we're talking about the upper 50s at the coast today. showers are going to arrive. we're going to hold off on those showers to the south of the golden gate bridge until 5:00. you want to go ahead and get your trick or treating plans taken care of early or try to find a place, a safe halloween spot, where you can go indoors and get that trick or treating done. back out here live. the fans are coming in. we're about half as full as we were just about 15 minutes ago. these fans are really increasing and we know that's going to continue to be the case as we head throughout the morning. i know a lot of people are heading into san francisco this morning, mike. >> a lot of people are already there. we're watching the crowd grow. here at the toll plaza, these

folks getting into the city. and now the metering lights are on to keep that flow smooth across the span. we'll look at the maps on the approach. the flow still looks nice. it shows you speed, into the 40s. a little slowing now coming to berkeley. we also have your issues. 24, the accidents, both directions have both cleared. there's still some residual slowing. your commute direction will probably stick around for the morning. east 580, away from the maze. an accident now reported. circle park boulevard. it looks like it's not quite as you get there. sounds like the car's on its side. chp's heading out there. that's opposite your commute for 580 in oakland. in your commute direction, wecht through 580, livermore, another accident at north livermore avenue, slowing out of the atlamont, into the trivalley, into the dublin interchange. we'll check the south bay coming

principal goes to trial today, accused of failing to report child sex abuse allegations against a second grade teacher. prosecutors say the principal ignored parent's concerns about that teacher and did not report him to the police. an oakland teenager charged with killing his adoptive parents has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. prosecutors say 16-year-old moses cayman killed the people in a fit of rage over trouble in school. the american stock markets back to work this morning. >> scott mcgrew, you say they're ready to go? >> i would say they probably always were, even at the height of the storm. the computers and infrastructure probably would have held up even if the markets hadn't decided to close. the issue really all along has been the people. how do you get people to the new york stock exchange. how do you felt technicians to all the electronic devices on the nasdaq? the markets think they can get the people, the workers, to return safely.

quite as cold as it was yesterday morning. that's because of the cloud cover serving as a blanket trapping heat from yesterday. overall, not too bad it it. it's mild out here. some people even in short sleeves this morning. as we get to the afternoon, temperatures are comfortable. we do have trick or treat showers on the way. we'll take you through the forecast as we get throughout the second half of your day. if you live in the north bay, plan on getting your trick or treating done early. the sun sets at 6:15 this time of year. a lot of the kids will be out and about. think you are going to see some showers but the south bay looks nice and dry. the moral of the story get your trick or treating on early. highs today in the upper 60s

inland. your seven-day outlook look, so good. temperatures are going to be very comfortable. we got a good looking weekend ahead. yeah, steady climb in temperatures back to the mid-80s as we get into next week. we have slick conditions not because they're watching the roads, they'll have a steady drizzle. mike, another big giants fan. >> we're looking to the south bay. i've got both my controller and my phone in my hand. we're talking, got a tweet message. he says cal train already not good and the san jose lots are full. suffice it to say, parking is an

issue at mass transit. as you take it from the south bay, up into san francisco, that will be a problem. we'll look at the peninsula with lighter volume of traffic northbound through palo alto and in through san mateo. again, that cal train system and bart, those are options getting into the city. so keep those in mind. another live look inside. show you how things are shaping up through the north bay. you see the glow and a little sheen on the roadways. fog, maybe drizzle on the north bay as well. the ferries are a great option. take you down into the city. add an extra service for that system as well. then over on the east bay, we're be looking at the maze. as you approach towards the bay bridge, west 80, coming around the bend. there's the toll plaza. off 580, off 880, all travel moving smoothly. again if you're coming through the bart system, a great option, they can add trains for all these systems but they cannot add parking. get there early because of parking. >> already filling up. >> great advice, thank you very

welcome back. hard to believe, look at the flooding. from hoboken new jersey this morning. we'll have more coming up including how it has affected bay area airports. >> back on the west coast, rescue crews scaling back their search for a southern california man in the sierra nevada. they've been looking for a 53-year-old since last week when he left on what was supposed to be a three-day backpacking trip in the national forest. crews have found no clues to his whereabouts. the ground crews are being pulled but a helicopter search will continue. northern california surfer recovering from emergency surgery after a shark attack. it is the second in nearly a week along the california coast. this time, near eureka.

surfer's 25 years old. he was left with a 14-inch bite wound. his friends who happened to be emts used their body weight reportedly just to stop his bleeding until paramedics could arrive. >> he was really gashed up. he had live four or five serious gashes from his nipple to his hip. was definitely bleeding out pretty good. >> the victim reportedly now in fair condition. just a week ago, you may recall, 39-year-old surf erb was killed by a shark on the central coast. >> scary tough there. now, your roads with mike. what's it looking like on this halloween? >> you're looking at eerie orange lighting but that's always the case. the metering lights are also on. oakland looks pretty good as far as the volume. a little slowing now heading to the san mateo bridge.

at the new york stock exchange where the opening bell is ringing for the first time since superstorm sandy has devastated the east coast. >> michael bloomberg there ringing the opening bell. the devastating storm swept 17 states so far. tracie potts live in washington, d.c. with a look at the areas where the president will visit today. but we begin with a look at wall street. >> the most important stock exchange in the world have been closed for two days. we have little precedent here. it's really not a good lesson for today. not something we can actually use. totally different stishgs. the last time they were closed for weather was back in the

1980s. that was for one day. probably nothing real instructive for us there so what to know. we see the futures call for a higher opening. about 3 1/2 billion shares are traded every day on a normal day. i have no doubt we'll see far more than that. we're waiting for the numbers to come across. >> focus remains on that storm with less than a week before the presidential election. tracie potts is live with a look. >> reporter: governor romney back on the trail today. yesterday he was in ohio collecting donations for the storm victims. he was asking people to leave donations at his campaign offices. now he is back to talking about why he wants to win this election on tuesday. in tampa this morning and in

miami and jacksonville, three stops in the battleground state of florida. all of them back to campaigning today except for president. he's dealing with the storm, touring storm damage today in new jersey. >> i told the mayors and the governors if they're getting no for an answer somewhere in the federal government, they can call me personally at the white house. >> the president has been outstanding in this. >> i don't give a damn about election day. it doesn't matter a lick to me. >> now, a lot of the areas that were hard hit by this storm are still trying to gear up for the election on tuesday. new york may be counting ballots by hand. we're told new jersey trying to get around its polling places that may be underwater. even in west virginia, possibly bringing in jen raptors to power the machines on tuesday. >> all right, tracie potts,

girl's teacher. prosecutors say the principal did not notify police. the teacher was arrested after a second parent reported inappropriate behavior. the attorney argues she had no way of knowing the contact was sexual in nature. meantime, two women are filing a lawsuit against a school district claiming it ignored sexual abuse allegations against a former teacher. the new lawsuit comes a month after call swim coach sued that district. they say they were abused by a former teacher at the intermediate school during the 1990s. the teacher killed himself shortly after he was placed on administrative leave back in 1996. an oakland teenager charged with killing his adoptive parents has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. the attorney says his client has a mental disorder that affects some adopted children. he says the disorder is caused partly from cayman's early

their favorite giants. this year, the route heads down market and mcallister. this morning, we're fanning out along the parade route for you with team coverage. we begin with stephanie trong live in san francisco where anticipation is already building. good morning. >> good morning. you remember at 5:00 our first live hit. there were about the first ones getting here around 10:00 last night. we are counting dozens of people lining market street here. i can see at least 100 just from where i'm standing alone. they're here for the giants and of course the wonderful floats. it's not just here along market street. overnight people camped at the end point for the parade at city hall. that is where we found jay rodriguez of daily city showing us how much he loves his g-men with the giants logo shaved into his head and also the golden gate bridge. now that is some love. as far as how to get here,

that's very important. bart is on a rush hour service all day using every available train. parking at the bart stations very tight. either walk or get dropped off if you can. try to get round trip tickets or use the card. use muni metro instead of the market street surface bus. also extra ferries from oakland before and after this parade. cal train also has extra trains. there will be some extra staff on hand to help direct traffic. a note about that. we just got word that main cal train station, parking is full. get here as soon as you can for all the excitement it we also

have a little inside peek on what you'll see during today's parade. for one giants fans, the celebration is just a little icing on the cake. this year's winner of the contest. this guy may be my new hero. >> this lady actually. major league baseball has deemed you the ultimate fan. you happen to be a giants fan. how did you end up with this? >> i ask the same question every day. entered the contest. they took me out to new york. they did eliminations. and they picked me. >> they put you in a fan cave and made you watch every game? >> yes. >> how did you get to be such a big baseball fan? that's pretty extraordinary. >> my dad raised me to be a huge giants fan.

>> are you going to be able to march in the parade today while your hometown team has won the chann championship, i'm just curious what that's like for you. congratulations. just a few blocks down from here, if you go down, that's where all the floats are staging. we are catch up with dave thomas earlier. they told him around game three, hey, we think we're going to take this. he told us he only had about 60 hours to put together eight floats with a lot of that orange frilly stuff. you could still smell it, it's still drying. that parade's going to be starting in four, five hours from here. >> bob, thank you very much. if you're going to be on that parade, make sure to shoot some pictures. you can e-mail us.

island. still no sign of two young brothers swept away in floodwaters. the 2-year-old and 4-year-old were riding in the car with their mother when rushing water overwhelmed their car. we have a better look at the overall damage along the new jersey shoreline. governor chris christie calling the devastation unthinkable. you can see for yourself, it really is. the bridge completely washed out. entire communities flooded. remember that crane that was precariously dangling above midtown manhattan? it is still dangling 1,000 feet above west 57th street and 6th avenue today and those streets below remain blocked off. no word yet on how or when crews are going to right that very tense situation. one l.a. note, new york's jfk and new york international airports have reopened but with limited service. what does this mean for you here? there are still canceled flights here at our local airport so it's best if you check with your carrier before you head to the
