6:17 am
so here's the problem with all of this. the idea that corporate raiders can come in and change a company so quickly and so vastly worries a lot of employees. netflix stock was up enormously on this. now, we have a history here in silicon valley of corporate raiders. one of them is yahoo! for instance. yahoo! deals with value investors, corporate raiders still to this day. remember daniel lowe. he's the fellow who publicized the fact that former yahoo! ceo scott thompson had falsified his resume. may have been the prime mover behind the hire of marissa mayer as well. but the most devastating value investor in recent south bay history was bruce sherman. he bought enough shares of the newspaper giant night ridder. he was able to break up the company and sell it at a profit. san jose, though, went from being the home of a newspaper giant to being the home of a building with a giant sign on it
6:18 am
for a company that no longer exists. it was devastating both to the newspaper and to the employees. now, what they're doing, jon and laura, is not illegal and not necessarily unethical. what it is is they're making a lot of money but they're bringing big changes to companies. carl icahn is no stranger to the south bay. he also tried to shake up yahoo! as well. we'll watch this one very carefully, but it would not surprise me if netflix ends up in amazon. >> it's interesting because people could say it's not personal, it's just business but you bring the human side of it as well. >> exactly. so i want to be cautious. bad guy, good guy, neither. >> just giving you the info. >> giving you the info, but it is going to affect south bay families. >> the motto greed is good, that's what they say on wall street. 6:18 right now. christina loren is here to talk about the weather. letting up a little bit with the rain, right? >> green is good right now on the radar. that's because we need that rain. we need it, as you know. it's the state of california.
6:19 am
we have three very dry months to get through over the course of the summer and, yeah, all that water is very much necessary for our supply. 6:19. taking a live look at the embarcadero, which you can actually see here. it's overcast. you'll see that once the sun starts to come up. and at this time next week, we are actually going to have some sun to show you as we get through that time change. right now showers are quickly clearing out of the area. we still have residual activity that's going to move onshore here in santa cruz in the next 15, 20 minutes. as we head through the morning, mid-morning most of the activity comes to a close. we get a nice, dry second half of the day and we're starting out mild so temperatures will easily climb to the 70s. we're at 55 in novato, 56 in sonoma and 58 right here in beautiful san jose. your futurecast tells the story. we stop the clock right at noon so showers coming down throughout the morning. by noon, nice, clear conditions over parts of the bay area. still mostly cloudy down here in
