let's check the forecast with christina loren. >> a lot of people are trying to get outdoors. maybe you didn't even get the day off work until today. what i can tell you is the front is sizzling quickly but we still have slick conditions all across the bay area. we're going to continue to see light showers as we head throughout the first part of the morning. also, expecting some flight delays out of sfo once the sun comes up. and we'll let you know when the showers will clear completely. now, the roads with mike. >> nice rain overnight. the bay bridge has some build-up. puddling conditions here at the toll plaza. we'll watch those on and off ramps. i'll point out two things. first, we see the green shaded all over the land. basically, wet conditions. roadways, local roads, watch those conditions. if you see blue, that means it's

puddling or ponding. right around 23rd, those connectors, on and off ramps. so just watch the areas. we'll continue to track them. but they're clearing up a bit. back to you. >> all right, thanks, mike. >> tomorrow is thanksgiving. travelers all other the country flocking to airports. today considered one of the busiest travel days of the entire year. guess what, it shows. >> video just in from lax where the cars are lined up for miles. just to get into the terminal. >> that is a lot of stuff going on. there's always a lot to track around the bay area airports. christy smith made it through all the crowds to get to sfo. how's it looking out there, christy? >> reporter: good morning, jon. right now would be a good time to come to sfo if you are coming down today. there's not much in the way of crowds. i think the most difficult thing

we face is the roads, trying to get here in the very heavy rain we faced on highway 101 coming south. it looks like from the people inside a lot of travelers decided to get here really extra early this morning to try to beat the crowds that will be here a little bit later this morning. there are travelers actually sleeping in various pockets of the airport this morning, ready to get away for the thanksgiving holiday. sfo expecting a record number of travelers. more than 1.2 million travelers passing through here between the friday and the monday. i spoke with one woman from loren and she was sitting with others who said she was getting here much more early. >> i am going to los angeles to be with my family. i decided to be here early knowing there's going to be so many people here. so i'd rather be early and expecting a lot of people.

>> what time did you get here? what time is your flight? >> i just got here a few minutes ago like at 3:30 and my flight's not till 6:45. >> reporter: and she had a lot of company. there are a lot of people who felt the same way. again, a lot of flights leaving later this morning. i just saw two delays and that was flights coming in. one from boston and one from ft. lauderdale. of course, that could change. we could expect more delays as the day goes on. reporting live, christy smith, "today in the bay." >> christy, thank you develop. we will be checking back with you. >> it's going to be busy on the roads this come weekend. aaa says 5 million californians will be traveling this weekend. many of them heading to lake tahoe. a little extra wrinkle in their travel plans. the new outlet mall in livermore has already created that burper to bumper traffic on interstate

580. unsuspecting travelers could get caught in that holiday shopping rush. now, the good news in all of this, drivers will pass less for gas. you're always looking for the silver lining. the average price for gas down to $3.77 this morning. it's down actually 55 cents from about a month ago. talking trains, amtrak adding extra cars to its trains for the thanksgiving holiday. amtrak and capital corridor trains will all have those extra cars. we're also following breaking news out of the middle east. an overnight explosion on a bus in downtown tel aviv has sent dozens to the hospital now, threatening to derail any of the talks over there. an already shaky cease-fire between israel and hamas. secretary of state hillary clinton is also in the middle east trying to help out with those talks. and the white house keeping a very close eye. nbc's daniel lee has new details this morning from washington.

>> reporter: the smoldering bus is the latest scene violence in israel. officials say at least ten people were injured in the attack. this, after a series of explosions lit up the gaza sky overnight. the latest israeli air strikes are proof israeli prime minister netanyahu is not backing down without a cease-fire. already more than 100 rockets poured towards israel. now soldiers are standing by, ready for a ground invasion, targeting hamas if necessary. >> we're about to go into -- and fire. nobody wants to -- >> reporter: nobody, including president obama, who arivalled back at the white house this morning after a trip to asia. a trip secretary of state hillary clinton cut short to help negotiate a truce in the middle east. >> the goal must be a durable outcome that promotes regional stability and advances the security and legitimate aspirations of the israelis and palestinians alike. >> reporter: clinton met with

palestinian president mahmoud abbas this morning. her last stop will be cairo. because the u.s. has no diplomatic relationship with hamas they are relying on egyptian president mohamed morsi to broker a deal. a test that could impact our relationship with egypt. >> he either decides he's going to try to control hamas or he's not. if he doesn't, well, then, we can pull the plug on assistant. >> reporter: at least 100 palestinians and 5 israelis killed as a result of this rocket fire. both sides ready for a truce. in washington, i'm danielle lee, nbc news. new this morning, an oakland man found dead after an hour long search and rescue effort. this all happened at the old rock quarry in oakland behind the rock ridge shopping mall. the man's roommate called 911 after he had been gone for more than an hour. the quarry is about 100 feet

down below. the roommate says the man went out looking for his cat but never cape bame back. divers from the sheriff's office searched until finding that man's body this morning. the fire department is not releasing the man's name. 4:38 this morning. a marine shot and killed by palm springs police officers will be laid to rest. family and friends held a can candlelight vigil for the corporal after the viewing last night. they say they want justice after palm springs police shot and killed him. he allegedly drove to an officer in a parking grove. his family says the officers went too far. >> we want to make sure these two policemen are behind bars. we won't stop, we'll never stop, till that happens. >> the officers involve in the shooting are on administrative leave as palm springs police

department conducts an investigation. the family is in the process of taking that department to court. it is 4:39 now. let's check in with christina loren once again to find out about our prethanksgiving forecast. >> we're looking good for today because the showers now on the radar are expected to clear out as we head through the next few hours. we're noticing the tail end of the system lifting to the northwest. if you're traveling, it doesn't look like these showers are going to impact you all that much after about noon today. good morning to you. let's talk about where the showers are heaviest. the south end of the peninsula. gech yourself some extra time this morning. we have slick conditions out there. rain pretty much all night long in the south bay. the good news is our air quality is going to be perfect today. nice second half of the day. one indication that our atmosphere is significantly stabilizing are the winds calming down. we're nice and calm up and down the peninsula. we'll start to see winds catch

up. looking month better, quieter weather, once we get through these showers for the first part of the morning. 65 in santa theresa. want to help you make those thanksgiving plans for you and your all-important family. that's coming up. first, the roads. slick conditions out there. >> even though it's not actively raining where you might be driving, remember, those slick condition, especially off highway speeds at the off ramp. the green, that would be where wet roads are. we have a smooth drive right now heading towards the bridge. we're looking at 980. we had some construction overnight. crews are still out there in some spots. the issue is right behind that construction. reports of a minor accident there. sounds like a taxi spun out. it is sideways across one of your lanes. we watch 980 approaching 880. we'll track that. spinout's a big risk this

morning. eastbound 580, reports of an accident there too. we're not sure about the details. sounds like there may be a car involved, over on the shoulder and watching some slowing. commute direction westbound at livermore we have slowing as well. new accident moving to the shoulder. we do have those -- a little bit wet there. a little rainy. back to you. >> all right, thank you very much, mike. it's 4:41. activists in san francisco say last night's vote to ban public nudity in the city will not stop them from giving up their fight. the board of supervisors voted last night 6-5 to approve the ban. nudists immediately stripped down in protest. they say the board is infringing on their right but some passing by city hall agree they should cover up.

okay, we thought we'd hear from them, we'll work on that. they quickly tried to cover them up. the nudity ban must pass one more reading at city hall. there's also a court challenge and if it survives that, then nudity ban will go into effect on february 1st. board of supervisor also approved an ordinance that will make san francisco home to the nation's smallest apartments. the micro units will be just 220 square feet. that includes, get this, a kitchen, a bathroom and closet space. look at the closet. goal is to create more affordable housing options in the city where the average rent for a studio is currently $2,000. >> and you know the silver lining for such a small apartment, less interior designing. >> i guess so. >> one picture, you're good. 4:43 now. could a strike at one of the nation's largest retailers derail your holiday shopping plans? hewlett-packard's billion

a lot ahead. 4:46. the fda has approved a seasonal flu vaccine. the vaccine produced by the swiss drugmaker novartis is used making animal cell technology rather than traditional chicken egg method. the fda says it is faster than egg-based production and could build stockpiles in the event of a flu pandemic. it is approved for people 18 and over. >> hp's monumental announcement it lost $9 billion caused the dow to close down yesterday. no shocker there. for that . and for a look at how the markets are faring, we go live to cnbc. happy thanksgiving each, sema. >> happy thanksgiving eve to you as well. we did lose a little bit of steam yesterday. after fed chairman said the fed

doesn't have tools available to offset the impact of the economy going other the fiscal cliff. also taking a hit from hewlett-packard which fell to a ten-year low after announcing it took a $9 billion loss. now, we do get data out today on unemployment, manufacturing and consumer sentiment. let's be sure to watch out for those numbers. the dow slipping about seven points to close at 12,788 and the nasdaq, as i said, inched up just a fraction. now, the national labor relations board says it won't be able to act in time to stop worker protests and rallies outside walmart stores. a group called our walmart is seeking better pay and benefits. the group is affiliated with the united food and commercial workers union. last week, walmart filed a complaint, saying the worker's group and the ufcw was attempting to disrupt its business. >> thank you very much. >> want to check in with

christina now. she has a look at our forecast today. >> a lot of people coming into town to take a look at this. we'll show you the golden gate bridge this morning. slick conditions. mother nature putting a shine on that bridge. for everybody coming into town. both waxing on and off right now. 57 degrees in livermore. we're nice and mild to start. 59 in san mateo. it's hard to believe it's 60 degrees even with this rain cooled air all across the bare area. give yourself plenty of extra time. maybe you have the day off. sleep in if that's the case. after the show of course. as these showers are going to make for really good sleeping weather. the heaviest rainfall over 101 and 280. along the peninsula is where the conditions are the worst for the next couple of hours.

mostly dry for santa rosa to san francisco. this is all that's left over. a couple of very spotty cells. by noon, clear conditions. and we're going to have some really good air quality. it's going to be kind of cloudy. mostly the clouds will hang out over the mountains. 65 degrees today in los gatos. turkey day tomorrow. hard to believe. as we head through tomorrow, though, you will get dry travel. across the bay bridge, it's going to be a little more dangerous now. give it some time to dry out if you have that luxury. friday into saturday, look at what happens, we warm up for your shopping. 68 degrees on sunday. holding on to beautiful conditions. if you've got family hanging out all weekend long. you can even take them to the beach on sunday. it's going to be nice around here. nice and clean. thanks to mother nature.

it is 4:50. oakland police searching for a suspect who violently attacked a young woman. police found the victim yesterday at the corner of international boulevard and rainbow recreation center. investigators say she told them she had been raped inside a car. one of the men accused of a violent crime scene in san jose scheduled to make a court appearance this afternoon. he is facing multiple charges, including suspicion of murder, two counts of attempted murder and four counts of robbery. police say wilbanks and a second suspect were involved in four robberies, the shooting death of a man at a 7 eleven store. will banks was also hit during that shootout. the second suspect still on the loose. there is a $20,000 reward being

offered for any information leading to his arrest. new this morning, india has executed the lone surviving gunman from a '08 terror attack in mumbai. he was killed by hanging earlier this morning. he and other gunman entered mumbai on a boat nearly four years ago, fanning out, targeting luxury hotels, a juish center and the city's main train station. the attacks lasted three days and killed 166 people. time right now is 4:51. it's going to be a party out there in new york. preparations under way for this morning for tomorrow's macy's thanksgiving day parade. what we just learned about those floats. we'll have that for you coming up. >> and some of the big names at the premiere of that new giants movie. coming up next. wet roads are a concern but what about falling trees?
