sacramento. we have clear skies. hour by hour you seat central valley fog start to break up and during the day, we are looking at mostly sunny conditions andite offshore breeze. even this time of year we should manage 70s. upper 60s to near 70. maybe even mid 70s. today is the warmest day of the seven-day forecast. big changes coming up. we will show you that. >> we are following a developing story. police say 42 people were arrested overnight after a confrontation with officers in san jose. it happened at a house on pa tt avenue before 11:00 last night. there was a large party going on at the home and when officers arrived, everyone scattered. many ran inside, locking the doors and closing the windows. moments later, bottles were being thrown from the back yard of the house. about 60 officers were called in

to help along with the sheriff's department after a short standoff. police arrested 33 adults and nine juveniles from inside the house. two officers were injured in the chaos. new this morning, a frantic rush as crews spent three long hours trying to free a man stuck in a storm drain. around 9:00, the fire department got a report of a man stuck in a drain near the best buy store on fitzgerald drive. they found the 27-year-old man wedged in a 12 inch metal pipe, about three feet below the street's surface. they used a saw to cut the steel piping and managed to get the man out safely just after midnight. >> crews excavated around 12 or 13 feet that went to 7 feet below grade down the hill, we were able to expose the pipe. >> the men got a few bumps and cruises and were not seriously

hurt. it's ilunclear exactly how he ended up in the pipe, but he is homeless and went in to stay warm in the past. a bay area family is grieving this thanksgiving holiday following a deadly crash on highway 101 in palo alto. one woman is dead and her younger sister fighting for her life. more details on the tragedy. >> i'm very sorry for her family. >> black friday shopping turned into a dark morning for one family. the driver of this suv swerved into the back of a patrol car parked on the shoulder of northbound 101 near oregon expressway. investigators have not ruled out falling asleep at the wheel as a possible cause. >> as of right now, we don't think alcohol or drugs is a factor in this traffic collision. >> a family of six was inside. a father, mother, and four daughters.

the chp said two daughters were ejected. it's not known if they were wearing seatbelts. the oldest daughter, nisha, died. >> it's a tragedy that this morning i had to hear about this news and it was just so unexpected. >> the other daughter ejected is in critical condition at the hospital. the rest of the family were wearing seatbelts and suffered injuries as well. rip and shred shopping bags were seen all over the roadway. >> i don't know how it happened. >> family friends said she was supposed to get married soon. >> she was looking forward to getting married. i know that she wanted to go to india and that's why where she was going to get married. >> today in the bay. >> memorial services will be held for a young man who was shot and killed in an attempted carjacking in san jose.

22-year-old rory was killed by  two armed robbers on november 16th. they are accused of murder, robbing four east san jose businesses and having a shootout with police that left one officer hurt. the suspect is in custody. police are searching for the second suspect. a donation fund has been set up for the victim's burial cost. a san jose fire captain remains hospitalized after a ceiling collapsed on him after fighting an apartment fire at the kimberly woods apartment complex. the captain was in a stair well when the water logged ceiling came crashing down on top of him. he is in stable condition with a fractured vertebrae in his neck. six units were damaged leaving 18 people displaced. they believe the fire was accidental. >> wal-mart employees walked off

the job at 1,000 stores in 46 states this black friday. they were upset about poor worki working conditions and the gray thursday schedule. they said they are not safe in the stampedes. in san leandro they carried signs. union members joined the protest lendings their support. >> wamgs and benefits are all the things. an associate needs to feed their family. they can't do that on $8 an hour. >> a spokesman calls it an exaggerated campaign aimed at generating headlines to mislead the retailers and customers and employees. >> to fight the protest, wal-mart is reporting the best black friday ever. they sold 1.3 million tvs and 250,000 bikes and the biggest seller is towels. 1.8 million of them. it being wells like black friday

. welcome back. ten minutes after 7:00 as the sun comes up over san francisco bay. what to expect? rob has that in about eight minutes. teams of inspectors are looking at what sparked a massive gas explosion. a suspected leak ignited ray building in springfield, massachusetts. they suffered major damage including a daycare center. no one was killed, but 18 people were hurt. firefighters evacuated before the explosion smelling a strong odor of gas. the actor known to fans for roles like i love geney and

dallas died with health problems including a second bout with cancer. he played captain tony nelson on i dream of jeannie, but he played j.r. ewing in the long running series, dallas. he was filming season two on a new edition when he passed away. just in after fighting for his for four days, hector macho ka macho died. his mother made the decision to take him off life support yesterday, but asked the doctor to leave him until his sons arrived in puerto rico to say goodbye. a friend shot he and a friend outside a liquor store. his friend was killed in the shooting. no arrests have been made. much more ahead coming up. a sign that christmas is just around the corner. the tree lighting going up in ghirardeli square in san francisco.

. >> good morning, everyone. a quarter past 7:00 and hope you are having a terrific thanksgiving holiday long weekend. a live look out at the san francisco bay. if you are not a big fan of crowds and chaos, san francisco's union square was not the place for you on black friday. shopping may have been the main activity, but plenty of side shows were going on. musicians played and protesters demonstrated against fur, war, and other causes. the crowds may not be everyone's cup of tea, others think it's the perfect time to shop. >> union square is fabulous any day and on black friday, why

not? it's crowd and alive and there is a lot of energy here. >> a couple of weeks ago, stockton street was closed because of work on the central subway. they cleaned up the construction equipment in time for the season and repaved the street. some people took a break to take part in another part of san francisco. ghirardeli square had the official tree lighting last night. a special guest was on hand. another tree lighting in downtown san jose, kristi yamaguchi was a special guest in downtown ice, the largest outdoor ice skating rink in the south bay and one of the few places where you can skate under palm trees. speaking of christmas trees, families are picking out their own tree, but if you can get a real one or a fake tree. we have things to consider. >> now that the holiday season

is upon us, many people will be decorating homes with christmas trees. what should you get? a real or artificial one? that depends. maria will help. >> it really smells good. it makes the whole house smell like christmas. these are the frazier firs. they are a lot more firm. you can hang heavier ornaments. these are the douglas. the needles are a lot softer. you can put tiny lights up inside. >> what are the downsides? >> you put fresh water in it every day. you will be throwing it away after christmas. that's the thing. it will shed some needles so you need to put something under it. >> they have a large selection of artificial trees. >> they have lots of pluses. you keep it every year and don't have to worry about watering it. >> many are wired with lights and some of them look very real.

>> the pine trees do balloon. they do have the pine cones. >> the downside is the fake trees range from $88 to almost $600 for this massive tree. real ones range from $25 to $120. you need to find a place to store the fake tree. they can take up a lot of space. if you have a creative side, you can make your own losing a tomato cage and garland. you can decorate the outside. when you decide which to get, don't forget the garland and ornaments and maybe a fake fireplace. >> lots of people heading outside. a big weekend for that. let's check in with rob and see what to expect. >> it's starting to feel like the holidays with a chilly start to the morning and patchy fog, but no worries about any rain in today's forecast. we are down to the upper 30s

throughout the north bay into the delta and parts of the east bay. 39 in firefield and concord. san jose was chilly at 44. 51 n san francisco and 41 in livermore. we have a slight offshore breeze and that's important in fairfield. we have thick fog into sacramento and some of that now is spilling westward through solano county through contra costa. that's the reason why we have a fog advisory out towards the central valley. the storm track is off to the north and that's where it's going to stay. the weather system is bringing rain north of eureka and we will slide further to the south and see extra clouds and a stronger sea breeze. a slight cool down in temperatures and showers north ofeureka. the high pressure will keep us dry and weaken some by tuesday, but wednesday is the big change. storm track will drop to the south and a powerful area of low

pressure will be sitting offshore for two to days and could fan big waves our way and head periods of rain returning and off and on thursday into friday. enjoy the outdoors this weekend and early next week, big changes on wednesday. here's a look at the fog. through mid-to late morning towards tracy and antioch, you can see during the day, mostly sunny hour by hour. a few coastal clouds approaching the coast heading towards this evening. upper 60s to maybe even a few mid 70s possible with these light offshore winds and abundant sunshine. mostly 70s, but fairfield, pittsburgh and anti-ing on, a bit fog-cooled as it pushes in the cool air from the east. the temperatures in the north bay, upper 60s and low 70s. the nicest weather in the seven-day forecast is coming in for the weekend and we will see the temperatures drop as more

accident, one that could have been prevented. >> an only child, but a friend to many, including me. >> she loved love. >> figuring out her place in the world. >> very unique. >> erica moveed from fremont to l.a. >> she so much love to give. a big heart. >> an unparalleled passion. >> full of life. >> that are life was cut short. around 4:00 monday morning as she slept from las vegas to l.a., her friend was one of the first to hear about the accident. >> i think she woke up on the first impact and panicked. maybe tried to get out of the car. >> and took off her seatbelt. >> another car from behind hit full speed. >> the damage to her brain was too much. at 27 years old, erica lost her life. >> three cars involved in the accident and everybody walked away with very, very minor injuries.

the difference between having a seatbelt on and off makes a world of difference. >> according to the u.s. department of transportation, in the holiday period in 2010, 337 people died nation wide and 55% were not wearing seatbelt. between 6:00 and 5:59 in the morning, the number of people killed jumped to 66%. san jose lieutenant said safety precautions are important this holiday week. one of the deadliest times on the road all year. >> we are all very busy in the holiday times. we are worriyed about getting to where we need to be. those distractions are different. >> erica's loved ones hope her life lost can save many more. >> i know she is in a better place now, but i am going to miss her. >> stephanie trong, bay area news. >> police are crediting good

samaritans for helping to save lives on the texas highway on morning. about 140 cars and trucks slided in heavy fog yesterday on interstate 10 near beaumont, texas and 100 people were hurt. a husband and wife were killed after being crushed by a big rig. many jumped into action after the crash. >> they closed the door and we embraced each other. >> he managed to free nine accident victims. fog played a big in the crash and it distorts perception of speed and distance. a scary day for boater when is a boat started taking on water. they got caught in reverse and several fire departments responded and nearby boaters stepped n. none of the eight

even small business saturday shopping. gray thursday, black friday and small business saturday. >> a help for the local businesses. a good cause. the weather will be nice no matter what your plans. patchy fog may slow you down this morning. inland valleys are chilly. upper 30s and low 40s and 50 in san francisco with a light offshore breeze. san francisco is actually mostly clear where we had the fog is around fairfield and santa rosa and sunol. we will see it around 9:00 or 10:00. the central valley fog breaks up to hazy sunshine and patches of low clouds near the coastline. a nice day at upper 60s to near 70 from san francisco to oakland. low to mid 70s to the south to santa cruz and 70s around the trivalley. the seven-day forecast as a big u-turn. lots of wind and rape coming. we will let you know if it will impact the rest of your plans.

offensive. more than 225,000 attended. overcrowding is a major issue. they carried out 1500 air strikes and 156 palestinians including 33 children were killed. militant rocks strikes killed six israelis. new this morning, it was a frantic rush in the east bay as crews spent three long hours trying to free a man. around 9:00 p.m., the fire department got a report of a man stuck inside the storm train on fitzgerald drive. crews found the 27-year-old man wedged in a 12 inch metal pipe about three feet below the street surface. fire crews cut the steel pipe and get the man out safely after midnight. >> crews using hand tools excavated about 12 or 13 feet that went from four feet below grade to seven feet below grade as it went down the hill.

difficulties communicating with ground crews like med aire, calling the communication very poor. saying in order for medical consultants to be an effective tool, the flight attendants need a direct connection. >> going with the age and gender and a brief description of the current medical complaint. >> they admitted that could be a challenge, often times calls are routed through the busy cockpit. >> the level of care depends heavily on the quality of the kminication. >> we're tried to get the airlines to talk about the criticisms and tell us why it doesn't make the information public. we requested interviews on phone and e-mail with more than a dozen air carriers. all declined. >> inflight medical emergencies are not going to go away. if anything they will increase with time as the population ages. the sad thing is we don't know

. >> mostly clear with a little bit of haze and temperatures in the mid 40s. fog-free in oakland and towards sunol and fairfield, we have been watching the fog along with chilly temperatures and upper 30s. concord and napa, there you see livermore at 41 degrees. mild and in san francisco. the winds have been slightly offshore. it can pull in the central valley fog like you are seeing. visibility at 2 1/2 miles. patchy dense fog is possible in the north and east bay valleys for the next hour or two. no rain-producing clouds for us.

you will notice on the satellite view, things are dry from here up to eureka, but by the time we get to sunday, the trailing edge of the system will weaken as it approaches the bay area, but it will shift the winds back onshore. we will see cooling by the time we get into sunday and monday. things are looking dry. high pressure winning for now. the blocking pattern with the jet stream off to the north. keep a close eye on the forecast. once we get to wednesday and we see the pattern buckle out, allowing a deep area to anchor itself. as it sits for about a day or two, periods of rain wednesday into thursday and likely into friday. this is the reason for the soggy second half of the seven-day forecast. high clouds to the north and pinpointing the fog. through the day with the light

offshore breezes. not too much in the way of fog, but late in the day, the coastal clouds approaching the coastline as winds turn onshore and a slight cool down as we wrap up tomorrow. upper 60s to mid 70s could be possible in santa cruz in the 70s. mainly low 70s around san jose and possibly mid-70s closer to holister and gilroy. trivalley locations and cooler into fairfield. it's that central valley fog and air conditioning we get sometimes that will keep the temperatures around solano county running cooler in the rest of the bay. near 70 and for the north bay, you should see the highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. today the warmest day we will see in the next seven days. a slight cool down with extra clouds and tuesday more clouds spill in. a big change coming wednesday into thursday. we will see how the pattern develops into next week. the computer models are right. we have a low offshore and

saga brought in $350 million in the opening weekend alone. the hollywood movies, especially the special effects are almost never made without a boost from the bay area. we show you breaking dawn part 2 is no exception. >> after 18 years of being utterly ordinary, i finally felt it. >> it makes for big box office, but if you want to know who made the wear wolves, you have to come here to berkeley and tibbetts studio. not the biggest, but among the most respected. >> they started clapping and stuff and we realized this was the studio for these movies. >> these are the men and women who created the wolves. sanjay is the chief technology officer and oversaw a huge jump in technology since tibbetts start work on twilight's new moon.
