anniversary. boy that was a mouthful. thanks for joining us. i'm kris sanchez along with meteorologist anthony slaughter. it looks so nice there but it's so gray in the distance. >> it is gray. we have some fog in the area right now reducing visibility especially in the north bay and east bay and even in san francisco. we have a cold front that's moving through right now and this cold front is actually going to bring in some cold air by this afternoon and evening so we may have been spoiled with a few sunny days, where it felt good to get out, do some running outside. if you are going to be outside at any point you want to grab an extra layer because by this afternoon and evening, temperature also fall kind of where they're at right now, back into the 40s and low 50s. we're at 52 in san francisco, 52 in san mateo, same in sunnyvale, and 51 in san jose. look at our visibility in livermore, down to a quarter of a mile, even in santa rosa to a quarter of a mile so thick fog will develop this morning but by this afternoon we're expecting to see a good mix of sun and clouds, temperatures crisp, topping out around noon in the

mid-50s, falling by 10:00 degrees by 4:00 or 5:00 so make sure you have an extra layer this afternoon. >> or get out early. thank you very much. a police officer continues to recover this morning after he was shot by a suspect in oakland. the shooting happened just before 6:00 last night on the east side of the city near the intersection of 49th avenue and east 12th street. police say the wounded officer continued to chase after the suspect after he was shot. stephanie truong has new details. >> an officer called for assistance. he had suffered a gunshot wound. >> reporter: that oakland officer was one of two responding to the sound of gunshots at 49th and east 12th. officer gianna watson said the officers found a man with a gun who began to fire at them, hitting one of them. witnesses say they heard from four to six gunshots in all. watson added that even though he was hurt, the wounded veteran
7:02 am
continued to chase the suspect. >> he was able to take him into custody and recover his firearm. >> reporter: officers stayed at the scene of a original report of a two-car crash at 47th and 12th trying to determine whether the driver who ran from one of the cars was linked to the shooting at 49th minutes later. witness tells ums the gunman may have been trying to steal a bicycle before officers responded. this is the second time an oakland officer has been shot in five days. monday night a little over a mile away on the 1700 block of seminary avenue an undercover cop working on a sunday shooting was also shot. police have made five arrests in connection to the officer-involved shooting and say they won't stop until everyone involved is held responsible. >> when someone is so bold and so brazen to try to take a police officer's life, where does that stop? that is the most dangerous person that we need to remove off of our street. >> stephanie truong, "nbc bay area news." >> oakland police say they will

and brought it to someone's attention to save these kids from more misery or whatever and somehow i get fired. >> the varsity football coach chris cervone says st. patrick-st. vincent fired him for telling them about hazing on campus. he says junior varsity football players told him that they asked another coach in december and nothing happened. cerv so ne went to the principal and the school put five coaches on paid leave and suspended several students during the investigation, then yesterday the school expelled five of those students and fired cervone. he says losing his job for speaking up sends the wrong message to students and staff. but school leaders, along with the archdiocese of sacramento say though cervone didn't know about the hazing when it was happening he was in charge and is being held responsible. >> while we no participation in any of the hazing incidents, the fact that they were responsible for the team led us to make that decision. >> the school said no criminal

ravens have a better chance of winning the super bowl than do the san francisco 49ers. think about the things that define the 49ers' football team. first an electric young quarterback in colin capper knick who has only been starting for part of the year and is in his second nfl season. looking back at the last 20 super bowls the average speernls of the winning quarterbacks is 6.75 season, a far cry from capper knick's two, ravens quarterback joe flacco is a little closer with five seasons under his belt. in fact in that two-decade span only three quarterbacks have won a super bowl with two years of experience. you might have heard of them, tom brady, ben roethlisberger, and kurt warner. the niners are also known for a stellar defense, they ranked third in the nfl in total defense this year. >> pass is broken up! >> reporter: how many teams have won the super bowl in the last 20 years sporting a top three defense? the answer is only five of the
7:16 am
20 teams with the average defensive rank for a super bowl champ coming in at 9.2. last year's regular season record indicate the 49ers are a better football team than the ravens but in the last two decades the team with the better record has won the big game only eight times. the team with the lesser record has won eight times as well, and four games featured teams with the same record. so record is basically awash, which is to say it doesn't mean anything. now while some of these figures might seem a little bit unpalatable if you're a niners fan, i do have a good piece of news, the most important metric just released today the annual janelle wang prediction and janelle is going with the 49ers. >> you said it wouldn't be a popular opinion and it's not. wide receiver michael cr cracrab cracrab crabtree will not will not face

sexual assault charges following an investigation by the district attorney's office. the 49ers released this statement saying "we are pleased to learn of the san francisco district attorney's announcement following a thorough review of the matter. michael and the team can now put this behind us and move forward." the woman who claimed she was sexually assaulted by crabtree in a hotel room following the team's january 13th win over the green bay packers. police say crabtree fully cooperated with them during their investigation. now meteorologist anthony slaughter is all warmed up, caught him moving around the green screen and now we look at fog. >> we can see looking into the city, really you can't see, there's just a fine thin line of fog that is reducing visibility, even not only in san francisco but in the east bay as well, sunol seeing some foggy conditions as well and we want to start you off with your. . this is a good idea of what's going to happen today. we have the fog in the area and it will be lifting through about 8:00, 9:00, but look what happens right around noon. temperatures peak into the mid-50s and by this afternoon falling temperatures so by about 4:00, you'll notice those temperatures at the coast and the bay going to be back into
7:18 am
the 40s so definitely make sure you grab a few extra layers before you head out today. keep them handy by this afternoon. the fog reduced visibility down to a quarter of a mile in livermore, same in santa rosa, only down to nine miles in san francisco but that was enough to wa warrant a delay at sfo, delays of arriving flights up to 30 minutes, issued by the faa. temperatures cool but not bad. 52 in san jose and san francisco. this is where temperatures will be this afternoon, right on our doorstep. it's only 30 miles offshore, that's why it's pulling in that fog today and eventually as i mentioned that fog will lift. once the cold front moves through the temperatures will really fall, we will see some sun but it's going to be a chilly mix of sun and clouds. again that temperature gradient will fall five to ten degrees by this afternoon and tonight we're expecting 30s back in the forecast and it hasn't been that cold in the couple of nights because of the low clouds keeping us warm and there is a potential for a brief shower
7:19 am
tonight and tomorrow, it's really a 30% chance so it's very slight, if you're a betting man or woman i wouldn't bet odds we would see rain. we're expecting mainly dry conditions with the brief showers tomorrow. today going to be dry though but again cool, temperatures only topping out in the mid-50s by about noon, 357 in los gatos, 55 in san francisco. 58 in oakland but again by this afternoon, 40s across the board so again, keep that jacket handy, maybe a scarf or hat to go along with it. once we get into the evening hours it's going to be breezy, the fog returns, we do this all over again for tomorrow but the good news is 60s tuesday through friday, even looking into some of our long range models, next weekend we could be flirting with 70s. i'm ready for it. >> we're ready for it. >> bring it on. flirting with the 70s. much more ahead on "today in the bay" including a silicon valley tycoon who made international headlines, john mcafee, he's telling his story only on "nbc bay area news."
7:22 am
his early days in the bay area were fueled by cocaine and alcohol, nowadays it's a new set of problems as police say silicon valley pioneer john mcafee might be connected to a murder in the country of belize. he recently fled that small central american company leaving behind a trail of teenaged women and guns. where is he now? in portland, oregon, here's the interview with raj mathai and john mcafee. >> reporter: is this the story of a successful entrepreneur who went crazy and surrounded himself with girls and guns and became a murderer or is this the greatest mind [ bleep ] of all-time? >> reporter: with that we introduce you to john mcafee 2.0. lot has changed since he launched his wildly successful company from his small santa clara home in the 1980s. not only has he lost most of his fortune but many say he's simply lost his mind. >> much of the press recently

has been very negative, you know, that i'm a madman, which perhaps i am, i'm paranoid. i don't think i am. or whatever, yet people give me the high five sign, keep going, yeah. i don't know where that comes from. it's a mystery to me. >> reporter: do you like it? >> it doesn't bother me. i don't seek it. >> reporter: you must thrive on that, the movie coming out about you, the women that you surround yourself with. you must thrive on that. >> people think that and call me a media whore. i've needed to you keep me alive for three months in belize and i need you now for movie and book and things. it's money. for ten years i didn't talk to anyone in the media. i got called all the time, the answer was always no. it's not that i don't like you as a person, i do not like you as a profession, because you are responsible for everything in
7:24 am
the world. the press has ruled the country, you do, sir, you tell us what to love, what to hate, what's important, what's not. you have the position of power and i think it's being abused maliciously sometimes. >> reporter: we caught up with the 67-year-old mcafee in portland, oregon, which is a far cry from the warm beaches of belize, where he's wanted for questioning in the murder of his neighbor. so what would you tell them if i'm the belizean government asking you if you had any role in his murder. >> absolutely not, and they know this. they know i'm not involved in the murder. they haven't questioned anybody else. so i had nothing to do with it, i know nothing about it. i'm willing to talk to them in any neutral country on the planet. i have offered that. i'll talk to them on the phone, i'll talk to them through skype. >> reporter: you talk about selling yourself in terms of a movie that might be coming out
7:25 am
and selling your story. sex sells. is it true, all about the women we read in your life, five or six women at a time, several girlfriends that are teenagers? >> absolutely, it is true. i do have teenaged girl friends and many at a time, nothing illegal. they're well beyond the age of consent and i see nothing wrong with it and if you do, then that's okay. >> reporter: is this part of the whole deal that's going to sell the hollywood in terms of making the film about your life? >> i personally don't think it's that interesting. i mean -- >> reporter: you must because you know sex sells so you must think this is a selling point because everyone asks you about it or want to ask but it. >> a lot of things sell other than sex, mystery sells, you know, all kinds of human drama sells, not just sex. sex sells if you're making porn videos, absolutely. you making a porn video and no sex it's not going to sell. >> reporter: in the 1990s, it seemed like you had a "normal" ceo life, clean and sober, wildly successful, speaking at the stanford business school often, donating to charity.
7:26 am
>> yes. >> reporter: when did it switch gears to this crazy lifestyle? >> you're assuming because i'm a clean and sober ceo that my lifestyle is a standard lifestyle. >> reporter: no, i was saying that you were speaking at stanford and donating to charity. >> right. >> reporter: and seemingly within all the normal society values. >> i still speak at functions, i still donate to charity, i'm still talking to business people like yourself, but my lifestyle has always been off the wall. i'm sorry. it didn't reach the press until just recently. >> reporter: how did money change you, $100 million is what i read you walked away with, you lost some, you gained some, whatever, how did it change you? >> at first it made me a radical [ bleep ] if i can use that word on television. >> reporter: we'll bleep it out. >> there we are. because suddenly you have all of this power and all this money, you can buy whatever you want, and i did. i bought stuff i didn't need, big boats, never used them, at one point i had 12 houses in

every part of the world, hawaii and ecuador and every state in the union, and bahamas. i was being a jerk. it really is. >> and that was raj mathai speaking with john mcafee. it is worth noting john mcafee left the company in 1994 and has not been involved with the company since. still ahead on "today in the bay" no more free parking on sundays. what you need to know to avoid a pricey ticket while parking in san francisco.

7:30 am
>> no! >> by this afternoon, usually our temperatures rise during the day but not so much today because we have a cold front that's going to move through, the lovely world of meteorology, don't you love how that all comes together? we have visibility reduced especially in the north bay and east bay today, down to about a quarter of a mile in livermore, santa rosa, even in san francisco, visibility at the airport has caused for some airport delays so if you are leaving or you have a family and friends coming in, definitely want to check that if you are going to be using some of the airports today. otherwise we're looking at cold air that's going to move in later this afternoon. it will drop our temperatures back into the 40s by this evening and breezy as well so once we get into the overnight hours we're expecting a few 30s tonight and a brief shower is possible for tomorrow. for today a good mix of sun and clouds and chilly. these temperatures you see on the screen are going to occur around noon and then again as i mentioned we're talking about 40s this afternoon, so even though it's mild right now, grab a few extra layers because you'll be glad you got them once you get to the afternoon hours

all right, welcome back, it's 7:45. taking a live look at san jose we have a few clouds, even some fog that has made its way down into the south bay so we are waking up to some foggy conditions. here is another shot of san francisco. you can see off in the distance a little bit of clearing but those low clouds really blanketing most of the bay area right now and we are expecting to see some sunshine today after about 9:00, that fog will start to lift. notice what happens with temperatures today, mid-50s by noon, but look what happens by about 4:00, we fall back into the 40s at the coast, even the bay, inland locations going to be around 50 degrees come 4:00 and that's going to be with some very strong winds, we're going to have a windchill factor for this afternoon up into about the mid-40s and temperatures tonight in the 30s so get ready for some cold air as this cold front moves into the area. you can see visibility way down in livermore, less than a quarter of a mile, up to a
