dwight clark's catch. >> 73-year-old terry white is a die-hard niners fan. he's been one since he was a teenager. you can't question his loyalty. after all he's been to all five niners super bowls and witnessed great wins. he has the newspapers to prove it. now because of jed york, he is going to the niners' sixth super bowl. he got an e-mail from york yesterday. >> i thought it was totally fake because it was sent on his iphone. i looked at this e-mail and i said said jed york. you're kidding me. >> it was no joke. the e-mail was real. jed york wanted to give two super bowl tickets to a fan with a great story. after fellow fans read about his story in the chronk a couple weeks ago, they urged york to give the tickets to white. >> i was totally overwhelm.

>> he's been to new orleans before, super bowl xxiv when the niners destroyed the broncos. now he's headed there again. his loyalty to the niners has paid off. >> i bring home a winner. if the players can win it for me, i think that will be it. i don't think i'll to go seven. >> i think if the niners win the goal next week, i wouldn't be surprised if the niners give him automatic super bowl tickets from here on out. talk about a good luck charm. we're live in walnut creek, nbc bay area news. dozens of die hard faithful fans waited to send the team off. many of the fans say they have been waiting a very long time to see this again and they are thrilled. it was a family event as fans of all ages wished the team well. i think the guys appreciated it.

festival. >> do you have plans for tonight? >> the film stars oscar winning actress as oscar's mother and michael b. jordan as oscar gran. it drawn cals the 24 hours leading up to the shooting that ended grant's life. fruitvale won the grand jury prize and the sundance audience award. he lives in richmond. in his acceptance speech, he called the movie a love letter to the bay area and dedicated the honor to oscar grant's family who was there for the premier of the film in utah and just returned home. we caught one oscar grant's aunt and uncle tonight. they said the film brings the much needed humanity to the telling of their nephew's death. >> we knew this movie would help us share with the world who oscar was. no one is perfect. we all should be entitled to some redemptive acceptance in

our lives. >> johnson and his wife showed us their tickets to the premier and they agree with all the buzz that this movie could be nominated for an oscar next year. since its premier at sundance, the company reached a $2.5 million deal. it is unclear when we here in the bay area will be able to see this film. oscar gran's family expects this to be in theaters sometime next spring. nbc bay area news. >> hundreds of people gathered in san francisco to honor a group of american civil war heroes who until now were overlooked by history. the fred korematsu heroes celebration honored 16 asian-americans and pacific island here's helped change the course of history by speaking the truth to power. mayor ed lee reminded the audience of the civil rights struggle.

>> many things of equality could be self-evident but they're not self-executing. we have to join together to get that one. >> the actor danny glover was an emcee at the event. many of the awards went to people who were outspoken during world war ii but who are no longer alive. those awards were accepted by family members. that black smoke you may have seen this morning over the santa clara valley was the result of a fire at a cupertino cement plant. this morning burning truck equipment and tires were reported a little before 6:00 at the lehi southwest cement plan on the 24000 block. the smoke was seen as far away as 280. the cause is under investigation. this is the same cement plant where a disgruntled employee kill three people and injured seven others.

crowds of residents showed up at a safety meeting caught by a local councilmember this afternoon. dozens of people had to wait outside a pizza parlor to hear tips on stemming a recent crime wave in their neighborhood. there is a growing number of thefts and burglaries in their area as well as a highly publicized home invasion. >> tonight the councilmember is having a meeting on safety tips. to let the neighbors know how to protect each other. how to keep an eye open for each other and organize through the neighborhood watch program and ultimately, the eyes and ears of the police department. >> the residents expressed concern about whether the police department has enough officers in the area. the safety tips discussed at the meeting are also available on the city's website. coming up next on nbc bay area news, immigration reform takes center stage in the nation's camden where democrats and republicans agree that they have to do something. the sticking point is how to get it done.

way to the national stage. here's the latest from washington. >> reporter: days before going to vegas and laying out his vision for immigration reform, president obama was at the white house huddling with latino lawmakers. on capitol hill, a bipartisan group of senators is about to unveil its own plan. >> comprehensive approach to finally in this country have an immigration law that we can live with. >> that approach features a path to citizenship for immigrants living illegally in this country. it has the backing of three of the top democrats and three top republicans, including florida's marco rubio and arizona's john mccain. >> we can be go on forever with 11 million people living in this country in the shadows in an illegal status. >> reporter: immigration reform is one of the few issues in washington on which both sides are calling for sweeping reform. >> i know there are a lot of democrats in congress who once and for all want to solve this problem, fix this mess. a broken immigration system and

a pound for other varieties. a final decision on whether to cut trading ties is expected in may. massive fire swept through a nightclub in southern brazil overnight killing hundreds of people. it is the world's deadliest nightclub fire in more than a decade. nbc reports from london. >> reporter: at least 232 people were killed sunday at a nightclub in southern brazil. more than 100 others are being treated in hospitals. reports say a flare or fire work was lit, possibly by a band member or someone from the production team and then set set fire to the club's ceiling. many are struggling to get out in the confusion. officials in the town of santa maria say the majority of the victims died from suffocation. most of the partygoers were students from the nearby university. brazil's president has cut short a visit to chile to return to the town, saying she would

the red hot sharks took to the ice again today. patrick marleau is on fire scoring his ninth goal of the season and only five games tying the all time record. the sharks beat vancouver canucks 4-1 and now are 5-0. this is sharks' best tart in franchise history. this game was also the first one where they start four-on-four due to a penalty when the puck

we'll see clouds filtering in from north to south. a few isolated showers possible near the santa cruz mountains. also, south of san jose, maybe a few sprinkles. after that, our skies clear out. the one that has been cool will move on. high pressure across the west coast. this will lead to some mild temperatures. bay area wide, we suspect from wednesday, thursday into friday. lots of sunny 60s. areas south of san jose, a chance of getting closer to the low 70s. tonight it will be chilly. we'll see clearing skies, except for the areas on the coast themselves could see an isolated shower. mid to upper 30s. 40s around san francisco. high temperatures tomorrow. 57 degrees. probably the coolest day of the next seven days as we go through the workweek. a cool start to the workweek. each day warming up a little

more. 57 degrees and 60 in santa rosa. as we head toward the middle part of the week, temperatures climbing on up. we should see 60s bay area wide. even close to the coast and maybe some 70s to the south. as we head toward next week, the quest for six, will be the quest for the 60s. if you compare it to the weather they'll see, they'll be seeing 60s around the same time. i don't know if that's some convergence, the same weather as new orleans, the same day as the super bowl. there's the forecast for the bay area and new orleans. >> i don't like indoor games. i don't think it is as footballish. >> but it is much nicer than being in minnesota. >> let them suffer. when we return, thousands of people flock to the east bay to celebrate baseball. ♪
