warmest days of the week thursday and friday. some places could even get close to 70 as we get closer to the weekend. that's a look at your weather forecast. here's a look at your morning commute with mike. >> we'll take folks out to the bay bridge toll plaza first and notice the light volume of traffic as you would expect at 4:31. we'll also look out to the span. the incline itself. we'll look just at this shot as we see taillights heading toward treasure island. reports of a disabled vehicle at the treasure island onramp to the upper deck. shouldn't affect the flow of traffic. we shouldn't see a lot of slowing but a heads-up heading over from oakland into san francisco. back to you. >> all right. thank you very much. it is our theme all week long. the niners quest for six continues this morning. >> before the 49ers and ravens face off on sunday, they'll have to face the media. today is media day. >> an annual tradition. players get to cut loose. silly questions and silly outfits. sometimes you get serious

new orleans covering the game. we'll have coverage starting at 5:00 a.m. and you can get behind the scenes access on our website, nbcbayarea.com. oakland police this morning searching for a person who shot a first grader right outside of her home. police say a car pulled up outside of the home near 66th and international boulevard and opened fire. bullets flew through an suv and that home. the 8-year-old girl was shot in the leg. the mother says sadly this is not the first time they have seen this happen. >> last wednesday or thursday, 10:00 in the morning, felt like it was right in front of my house. cannon fire. that's crazy. we have kids. they were playing. i have kids that play in front all the time. they're not going to anymore. >> i'm very disturbed. it's upsetting that we can't have our kids outside to play like normal kids like in other neighborhoods. >> tough situation all around. we do have good news to pass along. that girl is expected to be okay. police now looking for witnesses to help track down the suspects.

police chief howard jordan is expected to discuss two more recent shootings involving oakland police officers. the first one happened last week in east oakland less than a mile away from where that 8-year-old was shot. police say three men attacked an officer and shot him in the arm. then over the weekend another officer was shot on 12th street near 49th avenue. both officers are expected to recover. the legal process moving forward today for a san francisco man accused of setting his girlfriend on fire. dexter oliver faces attempted murder, mayhem and torture charges all of which could keep him behind bars for the rest of his life. prosecutors say he threw gasoline on his girlfriend after an argument and he then lit her on fire. she remains hospitalized with life threatening burns. lawyers will discuss the status of oliver's case this morning. want to check our forecast with meteorologist rob mayeda in for christina this morning. how are we looking? >> so far pretty good. temperatures not too bad.

a few spots waking up in mid 30s around napa. what's interesting here is santa rosa typically one of the coldest spots in the bay area in the morning. 46. we have northwest winds helping to keep temperatures up around santa rosa. the wind also helping to prevent patchy dense fog from forming. a little bit of good news for your morning commute. speaking of northwest winds, 10 to 20 miles per hour today. highs mostly 50s for today. after today warming temperatures. we're talking 60s and maybe even close to 70 on the coast by the time we wrap up the workweek. here's a look at high clouds dropping in from north to south. no rain under the clouds. it will filter the sun through the day. hour by hour forecast passing lunchtime partly cloudy skies, mostly sunny and dry conditions today and our temperatures will start to come up into the mid 50s by lunchtime and look at napa, fairfield, santa rosa, those will be locations that see temperatures close to 60 today but if you want to see 60s for the rest of the bay area, that's going to pick up starting

tomorrow and thursday. nothing but sunshine in the rest of the workweek forecast as we warm up possibly to some 70s on friday and a few extra clouds as we get close to super bowl sunday. >> good stuff. we're also preparing our food for super bowl sunday and watching that forecast. we're looking over to the bay bridge toll plaza. smooth drive here. let me show you the traffic volume coming in on the east shore freeway westbound with those headlights just up to a couple seconds ago we had flashing lights in that westbound direction over on the shoulder. looks like a tow truck. zoomed in. couldn't see more than flashing lights. they cleared from the shoulder. that's better news as you approach that berkeley curve. there it is at the bottom of your screen. looks likes maintenance going on there. good news. off the freeway now. we'll go down south of there toward oakland where we look at the northbound commute with taillights up past high street and smooth drive here. no issues for the nimitz freeway as far as any incidents. we check the peninsula on the other side of the bay and traffic flow through palo alto

budweiser says super bowl fans are in for a surprise. the company's clydesdales are a staple when this comes to super bowl commercials. it was just seven days old when the commercial was filmed. the company will ask america to help name the newborn. sunnyvale's yahoo! helping to push futures higher this morning. for that and details before the opening bell, let's turn things over to jackie deangelis at cnbc world headquarters. >> yahoo! may push tech sector higher today but futures are actually slightly lower on wall street. this after the markets took a breather on monday. we saw the dow snapping a seven-day win streak and of course tech is going to be in focus with that yahoo! report and there's a lot of other earnings that will be coming out today and some data. we've got home prices and consumer confidence, earnings. we'll hear from ford and pfizer.

fed kicking off a two-day meeting but likely to keep to the message keeping rates low for an extended period of time. the dow fell yesterday and nasdaq edged slightly higher four points up to 3154. a fun story and sugar rush this morning for the markets. hostess agreeing to sell brands to mckee foods. the price tag on that deal $27.5 million. the lineup includes the namesake of drake's cakes and devil dogs. i'm sure you're familiar with those. hostess reached a deal to sell several bread brands for nearly $29 million. the company, which is liquida liquidating assets in bankruptcy previously picked flowers foods as the lead bidder for the rest of the bread business including wonder bread. that auction is going to be held next month. of course until we hear about what happens to twinkies, jon,

winds we're seeing right now. that's going to help to dry out the air and warm things up in the north bay valleys and the story today will be the breezy conditions. we'll see just some high clouds passing by. northwest winds 10 to 20. highs mid to upper 50s today. and then maybe getting close to 70 for the second half of the week as we can see clouds that we see this morning are drifting in from the north. all of the moisture and any chance of rain and snow will stay east of the sierra for today. the pattern shift that is taking place is going from this big dip in the jet stream that is now racing through the midsection of the country which will fire up some severe weather during the day today. for the bay area and the west coast the rest of the week, high pressure building in with mild temperatures and our numbers will be widespread 60s especially by the middle part of the weekend and areas south of morgan hill could have 70s by the weekend. close to 60 around santa cruz. not a bad day with high clouds around the tri-valley. numbers in upper 50s and close

to 60 in pleasanton. i think around santa rosa, napa and sonoma, some of the warmer spots today. 56 around san francisco. so from here all of the way into the weekend, today likely the coolest day we'll see for the rest of the week as the numbers climb each day. this will take us through friday and for the weekend a few extra clouds. maybe those are party cloudy skies. super bowl sunday quest for six. looks dry for super bowl weekend. jon? >> like the way you think. thank you very much. a federal judge today expected to decide whether to approve bp's plea deal in regards to the 2010 gulf oil spill. bp would plead guilty to manslaughter and other charges and would pay a record $4 billion in criminal fines before issuing this ruling the judge will hear from relatives of the 11 workers killed when the deep water horizon rig exploded. bp agreed in november to plead guilty to charges relating to the deaths for lying to

congress. it's 4:48 right now. president obama will be rallying for support on his vision for immigration reform. the president will be in las vegas today to push his proposal to give millions of illegal immigrants a pathway to citizenship. mr. obama will also talk about making improvements to the legal immigration system and trying to secure our borders. the speech comes a day after a bipartisan group of u.s. senators laid out a similar comprehensive plan for reform. and on capitol hill, massachusetts senator john kerry all set to become the next secretary of state. the u.s. senate expected to confirm kerry to that post when it votes sometime today. he will replace hillary clinton of course who is stepping down as secretary of state. meantime, a special election being set up later on in june in massachusetts to fill kerry's seat in the senate. it's 4:49. welcome back on a tuesday morning. we use our camera to shoot that beautiful moon on a tuesday morning out there. that is just like one of those things that just captivates you. ro romance to start the day. zen vibe out there. as a follow-up to the story we brought you yesterday, pg&e says thousands of colorful gnomes in a oakland neighborhood can say for now. the utility come spoke to the artist responsible for attaching

the gnomes to the power poles. the utility wanted to remove them so other people wouldn't step up and attach other things to the poles. the artist agreed to help pg&e relocate the gnomes more than 2,000 of them and pg&e has agreed to let them stay until they can find a suitable alternative. >> interesting. 4:53. plans for a 3-d version of the "star wars" is on hold. the movie is set for 2014 release. episode one was released in 3-d in april. >> it will give me a chance to catch up. i've only seen the first one. 1977. telling the truth. >> fascinating. we learned something about jon kelley. isn't that interesting? >> skip the one with jaja binks.

101 moves smoothly. view of the headlights. you see traffic flow very nice in both directions pretty light here underneath the 680/280 interchange. map shows you a similar situation for your entire south bay route. you see 280 and 880 with yellow. we don't have a problem with speeds down to 60. that's good stuff. road crews going on here south 85 through sunnyvale. i saw slowing up until just a couple minutes ago. looks like they may actually have the crews on the move early this morning. i'll track that. reports also of stalled vehicle maybe north 85 getting off there at el camino. highway 82. we do have no slowing at the interchange and we'll track that as well. the peninsula shows a smooth flow of traffic right here past the san mateo bridge and up into the city south and north 101 and 280 clear along the peninsula. we'll get a look over at the

east bay and fremont. you see spacing between the cars. the case for the entire nimitz up to the bay bridge. the earlier stall at treasure island onramp looks like it's not causing problems as far as the flow of traffic and so we'll track that as well. and i have a new incident for richmond/san rafael bridge. i'll get details and bring it to you in the next report. a luxury sports car maker rolling out this model in style. the miami airport was used to showcase the new cars and rev them up. first time the airport has actually shut down one of its runways to be used as a drag strip. that's good. very nice. the newest model 2013 boasts a top speed of 217 miles per hour. this one can go from 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds.
