arrest for the shooting death of his girlfriend. some reports say that he shot his girl after mistaking her for an intruder earlier this morning at his house. police say this investigation is ongoing adding that in the past, there have been allegations of domestic violence at the olympian's home. >> i can confirm that there has previously been incidents at the home. i'm not going to elaborate on that. there have previously been incidents. >> of violence? >> of allegations of a domestic nature. >> he's now planning to be in court later on today. you will remember that he made history in london just last year becoming the first double amputee runner to compete on track and field at the olympic games. we'll continue monitoring the story and bring you the latest developments throughout the

morning. closer to home, chp officers will return to a santa clara neighborhood this morning where they plan to detonate more explosives found late yesterday inside a home. on tuesday they arrested the man who lives there. he sent an e-mail threat for state senator over gun control legislation the senator had spons sponsored. when officers went to the home. they found explosives. >> they couldn't figure out what the substance was and then they did eliminate the detonation and caused it to incinerate extrem extremely quickly and doesn't give time for the device to actually go off. >> the senator will address this incident later this morning. we'll be there and we'll bring you all of that information a little bit later on nbc bay area news at 11:00. new this morning, pleasant hill police asking for your help

in locating a burglary suspect. this is surveillance video from that scene. it was taken during the early morning hours back on february 8th. that suspect as seen on the front porch of the home. the coast is clear. he climbs up and he steals the camera just takes it right down. if you have any information on the suspect, you are being asked to please call pleasant hill police department. palo alto police right now want to know if a robbery late last night is related to a recent string of robberies in that city. it happened in the 3900 block of bryant street. a woman if her 50s was beaten and thrown to the ground and then a man took off with her purse. they released this sketch last week of a man believed to be responsible for two other incidents. one on ramona street. in each case the robber had a similar description. san jose police are trying to figure out who stabbed a teenager to death a few blocks from san jose high school.

it happened yesterday afternoon on north 21st street not far from downtown. the teen died at the scene. police say they have not made any arrests. this morning we are hearing from that couple held hostage by suspected cop killer christopher dorner. >> it was scary. >> i really thought this could be the end. >> jim and karen reynolds entered what they thought was their vacant condo on tuesday and then they stumbled on the man they thought was dorner. during their 15-minute interaction he kept telling them he didn't plan to kill them and knew they had seen him on tv news. he tied their hands with plastic zip ties, gagged them and covered their heads. >> laid us down on the floor. put that hood on us. definitely worried. >> i felt like once he put the pillowcase over my head, i thought he may have changed his

mind. >> after he left, karen did manage to get free and she called 911. hours later the firefight between police and dorner ensued. the man found dead in the cabin in big bear sheriff's deputies say this morning they will wait for forensic evidence before officially saying it is christopher dorner. in addition to a body found matching dorner's description, police also found his driver's license in the cabin. the fire was the end result of a shootout and standoff with dorner that killed one san bernardino sheriff's deputy and injured another. the deputy that died tuesday night was 35 year old jeremiah mckay. he was a 15-year-old veteran of the san bernardino sheriff's department. mckay is survived by his wife and two kids. a funeral was held yesterday for another one of dorner's alleged victims. thousands of law enforcement officers from across the state as well as governor jerry brown

attended the funeral yesterday. crane was killed on february 7th when dorner allegedly opened fire on his patrol car. it is 4:37. let's check in with christina loren to see what kind of weather the valentine lovers are in for today. >> it's not just love in the air. we'll see haze and fog. good morning to you. we do have dense, patchy fog up in the north bay. quarter of a mile visibility. that's all that's available if you are transporting your kids around up in the north bay you really want to travel cautiously this morning because fog will be a factor throughout the morning drive but have no fear, mike inouye is back and he's tracking it for you. temperatures are going to be so comfortab comfortable. i'm in love with my forecast for today. warmup continues. warmer than yesterday. we'll see more 70s. air quality is not doing as great as it could be. we do have haze out there. we're not sparing the air. that's the good news. we're still forecasting that rain next week. it is looking really good.

new jersey governor chris christie is heading back to new jersey with a lot of california cash in his pocket. he attended a fund-raiser last night at the palo alto home of mark zuckerberg along with 100 other silicon valley heavy hitters and former secretary of state condoleezza rice. guests were allowed to give up to $3,800 to christie's re-election campaign. that's the limit according to new jersey law. christie may seek his party's presidential nomination in 2016. >> mark being the ceo and chairman of a large company really has the responsibility to be able to nurture and to develop relationships with the people in washington who may well end up regulating his company. >> zuckerberg met christie in 2010 when he donated $100 million to newark public schools. no word on how much the fund-raiser netted for christie. the airline industry just

more than 100 firearms were found inside a cave earlier this week. they range from handguns to shot guns to assault weapons. investigators say the owner was arrested after a chase involving sheriff's deputies. there's no word on why they were stored in that cave. that nightmare crews for passengers stuck onboard the carnival "triumph" will come to an end sometime later today. this is a live look at mobile, alabama, where the disabled cruise ship is expected to be towed in today. a fire last sunday cut the ship's main power source and damaged its water and plumbing system. this one has been a mess out there. carnival "triumph" drifting off mexico's yucatan peninsula before being towed by tug boats. the u.s. coast guard investigating the cause of the fire. fresh off the state of the union address, president obama continues his three-day road trip pitching his plan to expand

bridge and in spots across the bridge as well. back to you. >> thank you so much. it's 4:55. i'll take this one. 4:55. new guidelines could be approved later on today to try to help keep the bay bridge and parts of the san francisco bay safer. now those guidelines would limit ships from sailing under the bridge in foggy conditions and wide vessels would not be able to pass under the wide part of the span in decreased visibility. that comes after a tanker sideswiped the bridge back in february. the costco busan hit that bridge in november of 2007. back then the harbor saved committee identified nine critical maneuvering areas which are restricted parts of the bay but the waters under the bay bridge and golden gate bridge were left off the list. >> is that surprising to the coast guard that the bay bridge

itself would not be considered one of the cmas? >> i would say that we're in support right now of the temporary guidelines that are being put forward to the harbor safety committee for voting. >> if approved, the new guidelines would move a step closer to naming the waters under the bay bridge as critical maneuvering areas. if you ride b.a.r.t., today you get a chance to voice your opinion over proposed fare increases. we told you the board is considering a plan to raise fares in line with inflation rates until 2020. the last scheduled fee hike was last year and officials want to extend the program. there's talk of raising parking rates up to $1.50. the public is invited to a hearing this morning at 9:00 at b.a.r.t.'s board of directors meeting in oakland. coming up, we continue to follow a developing story right now. a well known olympian now in police custody possibly facing murder charges.
