longer. in the meantime they are going to have a bus shuttle to make up for this part of service that can't be running because of the debris on the line. filbert will be shut down for hours. that's where a lot of digging will be taking place. filbert at mason will be shut down to late morning, early afternoon. reporting live in san francisco. bob riddell, "today in the bay." >> happening now, day two of the bond hearing for oscar pistorius wrapping up in a south african courtroom. a day filled with more tears and deet about the valentine's day shooting that killed his girlfriend. the prosecution now pushing for premeditated murder while the defense said it was a mistake. marla has the details. we're hearing the prosecution started the day with a witness statement. >> that's right. as you mentioned we are just learning the bail hearing is wrapping up now without a decision from the magistrate so

pistorius will spend another night in jail. the hearing resumes tomorrow. it lasted more than six hours today. the prosecution brought forward a witness who says they heard a woman screaming at pistorius's home, gunshots and more screaming. they heard it in the early morning hours of february 14 when reeva was killed. they say they were 600 meters away when they heard it. that's almost a half mile. the prosecution showed a floor plan of the home to undermine the runner's account of what happened that morning. also the prosecution trying to show the angle of the bullet. an investigator said it seemed the shots were fired downward. pistorius said he woke in the night thinking there was an intruder in the bathroom. he said he grabbed his nine millimeter pistol and made his way to the bathroom without his artificial legs and fired into the bathroom door. he said then he realized his

girlfriend oh wasn't in bed. she died in his arms. police say they found testosterone and needles in his bedroom. but the defense said the substance is nothing more than an herbal remedy. and people started laughing in court at a one point. i will explain what that's about in my next report. >> interesting. looking forward to that. pleasant hill police releasing new sketches wanted for a home invasion robbery. the pair targeted a home on february 7 just off interstate 680. they held up occupants at gunpoint. both men describeded as african-americans standing nearly six-feet tall. police asking for a third suspect. security camera nearby caught the getaa way car. first a white newer model trailblazer suv with rear tinted windows, lowered black wheels with silver hubs.

welcome back, everyone. taking a live look outside from the south bay. certainly a cold start. >> google opens above 2k4r8z -- $800 a share for the first time. this despite economic uncertainty. >> washington politicians say they will work. they are celebrating another all-time high for google stock. not bad for a company that started at $85 a share. google this morning at $806.85. now much of the gains came in

the last year after larry page took over oh. his second time serving as ceo. $806 is a ridiculous stock price. it makes it hard for the average mom and pop investor to buy more than just a few shares. that decreases demand. most companies in this situation would solve the problem with a stock split. that is, wave a magic wand and make each share worth two shares at half the price. it doesn't hurt current investors but makes the stock easier to buy. by we're pretty sure google would like to do it but thef lyle matters. the split is likely coming. seema has a market check. good morning. >> good morning to you. the dow hit a new five-year high while the nasdaq broke above 3200 for the first time in is it years. it was the first time for the

good morning, everybody. thanks for joining us. it's 5:30 now. i'm john kelly. >> we have developing news out of south africa. >> we are getting word after another emotional day in court oscar pistorius learned he will be spending another night in jail. marla tellez has the newest courtroom developments. good morning. >> day two of oscar pistorius's bail hearing brought more tears. for the first time laughter from the courtroom. one of the nbc news correspondents who is covering the hearing tweeted the following. quote, laughter from friends of pistorius as botha claims miss tore use would risk fleeing south africa despite his celebrity. botha was one of the first responders to the scene when pistorius's girlfriend was shot. the officer considers him a

flight risk, arguing he should not be freed on bond. this is what made his friends laugh. one can only assume because they don't think miss tore use would run from authorities. the headlines came from a prosecution witness who says this person heard a woman screaming at the home and then gunshots and then more screaming the morning she was killed. according to an investigator that witness was about 600 meters away when they heard all that. that's almost a half mile. the hear aing today lasted about six hours. once again pistorius was said to be p sobbing uncontrollably. at times his shoulders shakinging. when he left the courthouse our nbc news team said he seemed composed. the bail hearing will resume tomorrow. talk of testosterone found inside the miss tore use home. i'll get to that in my next

report. >> this morning the coroner's office is working to identify human remains found near woodside. a hiker made the discovery off the trail. we have the latest on the investigation. good morning. >> good morning. we are a few miles from the trail head that leads into the redwoods open space preserve. it seems the sheriff's department has a bit of a mystery on its hands now. the investigation is being headed up by the county coroner. let's look at the video we shot earlier. last monday someone found remains in the redwoods open space preserve. sheriff's deputies were sent two miles west of skyline boulevard and 100 feet o the trail. the deputies confirm the remains were human but an identify has not yet been established. deputies with the county coroner had taken over the

investigation. again, human skeletal remains have been found in the redwoods open space preserve. if you have any information to help investigators, pleasele call the san mateo county sheriff's office. we'll keep track of the developing situation. for now live in san mateo county. >> also new this morning the obama administration ready to release a new plan of attack against cyber espionage. apple becomes the latest company to reveal it was hacked. scott mcgrew joins us. this time we are not blaming china. >> not in the apple case, no. it would appear -- and these things are murky. probably came from eastern europe and got there when some of the employees visited the website. it appears to clarify your apple

computer is not really at risk. rather apple was at risk for losing company secrets. this comes days after security companies warned of years of cyber attacks by a special chinese army unit designed to steal american industrial secrets. the obama administration this morning threatening fines and new tariffs against any company, read china, that attacks american computers and infrastructure. last week the obama administration issued new cyber security plans. it had to do so as an executive order. congress has repeatedly blocked new cyber security uh laws. >> thank you very much for the update. we know you're on top of this for us. >> stanford setting a new record becoming the first school to top $1 billion in fund-raising in one year. that's according to the council for annual college fund-raising

three, two, one. here's cool news t. bay area may be in the running to host the 2024 summer olympic games. the u.s. olympic committee sent letters to mayors of cities including san francisco, san jose and sacrament to gauge interest in a potential bid. l.a., dallas and tulsa, oklahoma, among cities that have expressed interest. the u.s. hasn't hosted a summer games since back in 1996 down in atlanta. salt lake city was the last to stage the winter games in 2002. >> happening now, public works crews in san francisco were with busy trying to clean up a water main break that caused a mess in the north beach neighborhood. we are now learning it could take longer than expected. bob riddell with with why crews say the break is bigger than they thought. >> reporter: it could be several hours before they get the break fixed. the good news is water service has been restored to the homes

on filbert shut down earlier. why? the water department thought it was a six inch line so they shut it off. turns out that wasn't the line. it was a 12-inch line that was under the kron create slab. the 12-inch line you wonder why they aren't digging it up and starting work. they are waiting for utilities like the gas company, electric and the cable to mark it down where the lines are so when they start digging they don't create a bigger mess. let's show you video of what the intersection at filbaerntd mason and north beach looked like earlier. the water main broke around 2:15 this morning and sent water gushing into the intersection going down the hills from here. a lot of mud. it was ankle deep. some people were without service

when they had to get out this morning. >> went in to brush my teeth and wash my face. there was no water. all i could hear were bubbles in the background. so then i walked down the street and i see this mess all over the place. it's amazing. >> the water department is not sure what caused the break. they hope to get a better idea. they believe it is one of three things. could be ground shift, old age or possibly cold weather related. we know temperatures did dip overnight. back here live, looking at the intersection of filbert and mason. part of filbert is shut down. mason for the most part has been re-opened. the mason cable car line right now is shut down in this

>> public works crews say they are making progress on an overnight water main break. a look at the damage and how long the cleanup will take. good morning. >> good morning. we are here at filbert and mason in north beach. compare it from now to a couple hours ago. they have gotten muck out of the street. you can see most of the intersection is back open for traffic. one issue, the mason cable car line is shut down because there is debris in the lines itself. you can imagine when the water line broke it rushed out mud, a lot of gravel. a lot of it went into the cable car lines. today don't want debris in there. it's a safety issue. now they are running shuttle buses up and down the line. you are looking at video now of what it looked like. the line broke around 2:15. it was gushing out. water was ankle deep in
