prosthetics need adjusting every month and he's too famous to flee saying it would be too give to get away with it. at most the 26 year old should be charged with culpable homicide. he says it was an accident thinking she was an intruder in his bathroom. the prosecution calls his story improbable saying the reason you fire four shots is to kill. as we wait for this decision to come down, we are hearing from pistorius' coach who was in the courtroom today. he says he plans to work with the track star very soon. >> i cannot say because i'm not the legal side of it. we can start training on monday if he's out on bail. >> he says he'll start training with oscar as soon as monday if released on bond. the top detective, the most senior detective, took over

pistorius' case after the original lead investigator was removed from that case just yesterday after his bungled testimony for the prosecution. turns out he was facing attempted murder charges for an incident in 2011. we'll see if that's going to affect pistorius' bail decision. it's just after 2:30 in the afternoon in south africa right now. we expect the judge's ruling any minute. when that comes down, we'll bring that to you. >> look forward to that. police in four states including california right now on a manhunt right now for a shooter who killed an oakland rapper on the las vegas strip. oakland rapper kenny cherry was shot as he drove down las vegas boulevard about 4:30 yesterday morning. the rapper's maserati crashed into a cab causing an explosion. that cab driver and passenger were killed. four other people were injured including a passenger inside the

maserati. police say the rapper is right now cooperating with the investigation. this morning we are learning new details about the shooting. police say it began with an argument in a hotel. that's when people inside a black range rover began shooting at the maserati that cherry was driving. cherry's father got the call from his son's girlfriend yesterday morning. >> some kind of disagreement and then the guy pulled to the side of him and let the window down and they started shooting. my son, for the record, did not have any guns in his car. there was no gun battle. nothing like that. >> cherry, sr., says his son went to several catholic schools in the east bay. he briefly attended chico state before dropping out to pursue a rap career in las vegas. he believes behind two young children including a 2-month-old baby girl. santa cruz police this morning taking action after a rape on their campus.

officers say they will provide nighttime campus escorts over the next several weeks. university vans will pick them up and drop them off. the move is in response to recent off-campus crimes. sunday afternoon a young woman was beaten and raped while walking on campus. >> another warning to women this morning after two separate attacks on a popular trail near a b.a.r.t. station. the attacks happened just hours apart on wednesday night. in both cases the women were walking along when they were approached by a man asking their name. when they refused to give it, the suspect chased the women for a short distance. police say it's possible the same man is responsible for both attacks but they say the women's description of the suspect differed. city college of san

francisco students camping out this morning trying to get the chancellor's attention. they are holding a sit in at the main campus. they want the chancellor to meet with them to talk about school plans to avoid closure. the college is fighting to keep its accreditation after they were found to have an excessive number of campuses and high faculty costs. if the college fails to show adequate improvement, it could close in june. boeing's troubled 787 dreamliner may soon take flight again. a few hours ago the company said it found a temporary fix for battery problems that have grounded the fleet and will present that plan to faa officials later today. boeing isn't giving specifics but the plan includes putting the batteries inside of a fire resistant container to prevent overheating. back in january all dreamliners were grounded worldwide after battery problems on two separate flights. if this plan is approved, boeing

the way for tomorrow making for changes. you will have a better opportunity to get outdoors on sunday. we'll sort it out for you. seven-day outlook is coming up in my next report. stay tuned for that. first, let's check your drive. good friday morning, mike. >> good friday morning across the bay bridge. look at that beautiful view of the incline. the few taillights heading into san francisco very light easy drive on lower deck as well. we do have road crews there. no big deal as far as coming out of san francisco on the lower deck. no slowing. we'll show you the maps on the approach to east shore freeway from top of the screen to bottom through richmond and toward the berkeley curve. easy drive and through the maze but getting on south 880 at the oak street onramp reports that a car hit one of the metering lights and that will be an issue with folks using that as onramp to southbound side. no lanes reportedly blocked but there will be a crew there if they do repairs so i'll let you know if they close anything before the commute starts through that area. meanwhile, as we look at the tri-valley, a smooth drive. this is west 580 and south 680 commute directions and nothing

unusual even slowing out of dublin that happens now on sensors but no incidents reported through the area. look at palo alto 101 along the peninsula. 101 and 280 are clear. we do have a crash i want to tell you about coming up in the next report. back to you. >> okay. thank you very much. investigators in fremont say alcohol may be to blame for an overnight crash involving a number of cars. that may explain why driver of a pickup truck drove the wrong way on ardenwood boulevard. the truck hit a minivan and suv. the van then slammed into the big rig. in total eight people were sent to the hospital and two are in critical condition. firefighters say the pickup was carrying swimming pool chemicals spilling on the roadway. hazmat crews had to be called in to clean this thing up. 4:40 right now. major pet food recalled overnight. we'll tell you what brands are affected and what you should do if you have any. >> what happens when nasa teams

weekend. on saturday we're going to start out mostly cloudy and in fact looks like we'll see showers up in the north bay. nothing heavy though. that will clear out of here by mid morning saturday. high pressure builds in for sunday. this will bring your temperatures towards that 70-degree mark. we actually get close to 70 on that seven-day forecast. hold on for one moment. 63 in livermore. 63 in fremont. i'm happy to bring you this warmup. we deserve it after the very cold snap we had to get through this week. 65 degrees by wednesday. that's when we get our next chance for rain. look. temperatures will be comfortable just about every single day through thursday. a few more clouds wednesday into thursday of next week. the same deal. system tries to get in here. high pressure keeps it out. so for us we'll keep climbing. back to you, jon and laura. a gun buyback event spearheaded by two bay area fathers taking place this weekend on the peninsula. menlo park based protect our children raised more than $30,000 for tomorrow's event,

which will trade cash for firearms. no questions asked. the organization's founder and coordinator james cook both have children in palo alto schools and they say they were deeply affected by the mass shooting in newtown, connecticut. police officers from menlo park, palo alto and east palo alto will collect the guns at city hall in east palo alto from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. before tomorrow's event kicks off, dozens will gather in palo alto tonight for a candlelight vigil to show support for gun control. it's being organized by the silicon valley chapter of the national group organization for action. members of both the palo alto and menlo park city council will speak and a congresswoman is expected to attend. tonight's vigil starts at 6:00 at the lytton plaza. chp officers will continue to patrol the streets of oakland but it will cost the city more than $160,000. the city council approving the funding this week and this move

will keep ten chp officers and two sergeants patrolling the streets for the next two months. since november the chp has been fighting crime in the city for free. the chp can no longer afford to flip the bill so oakland will pick up that tab. city leaders say so far the partnership has been very, very good resulting in nearly 100 felony arrests and the recovery of more than a dozen guns. first parking meters and now ferry tickets. giants fans headed to at&t park may soon have to pay more to get in. >> come on. >> sorry. new proposal would charge fans who take the ferry to games $11 one way. that's up almost a dollar from last year's one-way fare. there will be a hearing on march 7th. >> i'm going have to voice something. a beer and slice of pizza is $70. >> you're about right. >> steep. hurts. it is 4:50 right now.

hollywood's biggest night. >> he's taking a big risk. i don't think he would have taken it if he didn't know he could do it. >> even if he sprouts wings on stage and levitates five feet off the ground live on television, "entertainment weekly" will still go uh. >> he'll be great if you ever caught him on "saturday night live" i thought he was fantastic. lots of people have actually seen this year's nominee. >> strong lineup. >> nice to see. a fun event. speaking of some of the nominees, local college kids could say they worked on an oscar winning film. >> san francisco students worked on the movie "beast of the southern wild." the students helped with all of the special effects in the film. this one is a nice classic in the making. it had a budget of under $2 million. filmmakers had to get creative.

good morning, everybody. we're following breaking news out of south africa and we're just moments away now from a decision in the oscar pistorius bail hearing. the paralympian is facing charges for the death of his girlfriend. >> the hearing reconvened 20 minutes ago. i've been listening live to the magistrate as he considers the bail of oscar pistorius. going over all of the details laid out in pistorius's affidavit explaining what he says happened in the early morning hours of valentine's day when he shot and killed his girlfriend reeva steenkamp. over the past week prosecutors have been presenting evidence trying to keep pistorius held without bail. pistorius denies the single charge of premeditated murder saying he accidentally shot reeva steenkamp believing she was an
