the department. she was a detective. leaves behind her partner and two young boys. both were following up with the suspect. a 35-year-old man named jeremy goulet. this was around 3:30 yesterday. the follow up was in regards to his arrest on friday for allegedly breaking into a co-worker's home and making sexual advances to her. at some point goulet shot and killed both officers. you should be able to see in this cell phone video law enforcement swarmed the area. goulet tried to es escape. you can hear officers and deputies unloading their weapons. one person said it sounded like the fourth of july. the 35-year-old suspect was shot and killed. the chief of police later at a news conference was at a loss for words over the deaths of his two officers. >> i have known both officers for a long time. there just aren't words to

describe how i feel personally about this and how my department is reacting. >> it rocked our community to our foundation. >> it's not clear yet how goulet was able to shoot and kill two police officers. according to one report he was a former marine and soldier who did own three guns including a beretta and semi auto sig sauer. >> nbc bay area uncovered the suspect in the tragedy does have a criminal history. kristy smith is live in berkeley where goulet lived for a brief period. she has more on that part of the story. good morning. >> good morning to you, jon. at least one neighbor here in the elm wood neighborhood describes the suspect as super, super creepy. goulet lived here only briefly in an apartment since about 2011 but had recently moved away.

that neighbor andrew morrison says goulet was living here with his brother. he and his wife started doing research on the 35-year-old because what they describe as strange behavior. they say he moved out. she showered up in portland in 2008. he was convicted of carrying a gun without a permit. friday he was reportedly arrested by police for disorderly conduct. he told the sentinel he was fired from his job after he broke into a co-worker's home and tried to sexually assault her. that berkeley neighbor said he said he had worked at a coffee shop in the area but lost his job and moved away. served in the military and was

investigating if a distress call that sent them searching for a family off a the coast near monterrey was a hoax. the coast guard is looking into whether the family even existed. a distress call was made sunday around 4:00. the man on the radio said he and his family were abandoning their boat off the coast. harbor mass tors said there are no reported missing boaters. hundreds of rescue crews including the california air national guard scoured an area 29 miles wide looking for the family. >> i guess you can say it's sour grapes over apple. today the shareholders meeting is likely to get heated. scott, apple has $137 billion in cash on hand. what are they going to do with it. >> that's the question. there's been enormous pressure for apple to give the money to investors in a dividend. the man on the right there,

david einhorn spearheads the drive. he proposed apple create a special class of stock for the permanent dividend. man on the left is apple ceo tim cooke, of course. what does he think? we don't know. it's not been clear what cooke will announce. generally speaking, shareholders in a company get a vote into what the company does. apple has tried to maneuver the vote in a way to defeat the dividend idea. a judge decided apple couldn't do this. this is complicated. bottom line, lots of money out there. much of it overseas so ap al is reluctant to bring it back to america for payout. it will be hit with the world's biggest tax bill. these things will be ham herred out. we suspect today. >> all right, scott. this morning, not something the main stream press will cover from the inside. >> i don't think so. this is a private meeting, private property among shareholders in the company. bloggers tend to buy a single share of company stock so they

issue. getting out will be a problem. as we look at the maps we'll show you the general vicinity. we are looking over here. this is not far from portal avenue. that's cleared. west portal is cleared for traffic flow. transit through the area, no impact. of course slow and 19th the two major roadways are both clear as well. we are tracking it because some folks are without water and a lot of folks, their cars are stick there as well with. your drive into the city, the bay bridge moves smoothly. so does the golden gate bridge. the bay bridge, you get the glisten out of the water. you can see the nice vertical lines there. we'll see how things are shaping up before the toll plaza. a clear view of the east e shore freeway. also a clear view looking at the high rise. that's a nice shot. there is no fog here. doesn't sound like there is much

two police officers and the suspected gunman are dead. >> good morning. law enforcement has finished processing the scene on doyle. this is where they shot and killed the suspect who murdered two police officers yesterday afternoon. santa cruz police chief didn't have the words to describe how his department is reacting to the deaths of butler and baker. baker served 28 years on the force, was married with two daughters and a son who also works at the department. butler had ten years with p.d. and leaves behind her partner peter and two young boys. both officers were meeting with the suspect jeremy goulet yesterday afternoon.

up a bit so they can pay for some of the spending. john boehner, the republican leader on the hill says president obama is exaggerating things, dragging his feet. they sent out alternatives, other ways to make cuts. democrats haven't agreed with them. a lot of finger pointing. not a lot getting done. our latest poll says about half of americans think this is a bad idea. these cuts. about 20% say it is a good idea. about a quarter just don't know. >> tracie potts, thank you very much. >> the dream liner passenger jet could take off again soon. the f.a.a. will allow boeing to hold test flights of the 787s as early as next week. this will let going make fixes to its lithium batteries which forced airlines to ground the plane. a probe found the batteries caused several fires aboard a

been identified. alvarez was arrested and fired this week following a five-month investigation. >> this morning las vegas police are identifying a new person of interest in that deadly shooting and crash on the strip last week. police say 22-year-old tanisha lesean howard was in the black suv with with with with the main suspect, amare harris when he fired shots into a car driven by rapper kenny cherry. the driver of the cab and a passenger were killed. authorities say howard who goes by the name of yanesi is alphonso has been arrested several times. the journal reports that there is a chance harris could be out of the country. the journal examined a year's worth of tweets from harris where he poeed his schedule for
