no slowing through the area. we'll track that for another few to make sure that's the case. for now, we send it back to you. >> thank you, mike. we'll check back later. investigations are under way in five deadly officer-involved shooting in the bay area all happening over 72 hours. first, thursday in sonoma county followed by shootings over this weekend in san francisco, san jose, union city, and hayward. now in that hayward shooting on sunday, police say a driver rammed his car into a police cruiser during a traffic stop. the officer opened fire hitting a passenger. that passenger died at the scene. now, the driver, a 23-year-old oakley man, is in custody. >> everything is just escalated between the cops fearing for their lives and people on the streets fearing for their lives. >> on saturday police shot and killed a man after a high-speed

chase through san jose. another pursuit saturday ended near candlestick park with a daly city police officer shooting and killing a suspect. the officers involved, all of them, are on administrative leave. san jose police could tell us more about a high-speed chase that ended with the death of a driver. that chase started about 2:30 saturday afternoon. you can see it here on video. police opening fire on that suspect after he got out of his car and refused to obey orders despite peespeeds up to 100 mil an hour, no officer or bystander was hurt. police on the hunt for people that broke into an unmarked police car in san francisco and stole an ar-15 assault rifle. sfpd officers were working in the area and say the car was parked and secured when someone broke in this weekends. the stolen rifle is for specially trained officers so they can be ready for rapid fire in close quarters. an investigation is ongoing.

if you have any information, you are asked to call sfpd. los gatos town council voting tonight on an emergency moratorium on new gun dealers. templar sports opened its doors in late october and a lot of residents were outraged the store could open without public debate. los gatos held two meetings on that issue last month each drawing hundreds of residents. if that emergency moratorium is approved tonight, it will apply ret ret retroactively to templar sports. an unanimous soldier left a teddy bear with a purple heart medal and a note wearing "the purple heart is for the sacrifice above and beyond the call of duty." soldiers who are killed or wounded in service are awarded purple heart medals. deputy chief steve clark says the families of butch baker and elizabeth butler and everyone on the force were touched and

honored. >> officers in the department are just blown away. a number of them are military and so they understand the significance of not only earning this medal but the significance of giving it as a gift. >> the memorial outside of the santa cruz police department has been growing since tuesday when baker and butler were gunned down. the public memorial service for officers baker and butler will be held in san jose at the hp pavilion. it was originally going to be held at kaiser permanente but organizers said they needed a larger venue. the service will be held thursday at noon. breaking news from overnight. a deadly shooting in campbell and the victim is just 18 years old. >> all night long police have been searching for the gunman. the victim was found near the corner of west lattimer and dumpster drive not far from the

campbell shopping center. "today in the bay's" bob redell is live on the scene with more details on this investigation. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning to you, marla and jon. it should be noted this is unusual for the city of campbell. several years since someone was murdered in this town. the last homicide having taking place back in 2007 and now police are trying to figure this one out. this is a neighborhood of apartments and duplexes. they found the victim in the area around 10:20 last night after someone called 911. his name is richard vega. he died a little bit after midnight during emergency surgery. >> at this point we're looking into all possibilities. we don't have any solid evidence that the victim was specifically targeted or that it's gang related. we're certainly considering those possibilities in our investigation. and our investigators are contacting family and friends

and witnesses to help us determine the cause and who may have done this. >> reporter: police tell us they are looking for a person who was seen driving away in a dark colored sedan heading on lattimer toward winchester boulevard this taking place just after the shooting. this intersection at lattimer and dumpster will be close until around 7:00. this isn't a neighborhood so it won't affect the morning commute. san jose firefighters investigating suspicious fire at an east bay high school. it broke out sunday afternoon at independence high school. is it started with the b villa which houses one of the principals at that school. firefighters say there could have been more damage if not for one thing. >> the thing that helped us out is that the building was

sprinklered. it helped the building in check until the firefighters were able to get here and put out the fire completely. >> no one was hurt and investigators say it's not the first fire at the school. the fire will not affect the schedule there. students and faculty are to report this week on time as usual. in the south bay it took until 2:00 in the afternoon for the sun to finally come out. >> it did. >> thankfully. how is it looking today? >> same story will play out. clouds to start the morning off but around lunchtime i do think we'll see partly cloudy skies and a pretty decent finish to the day. 40s to low 50s outside and a bit of a sea breeze pumping in low clouds we're waking up to this morning. about those low clouds, notice the visibility in miles. not reduced too much. they are high up enough away from the ground that we're not seeing a real impact on your morning commute this morning. by tomorrow we'll see the system over my shoulder that will bring rain and sierra snow. all that is coming up for

tomorrow afternoon. for today you can see low clouds for the morning. mid morning hours will see some areas of mist perhaps in a few spots. by lunchtime we clear out. in the hilltops today, slight chance of isolated showers here in the north bay hills or maybe around mt. hamilton through the afternoon. around the bay area today, temperatures will be mostly in the 60s inland. upper 50s around san francisco close to oakland during the day and tomorrow we'll see that change coming in our way with rain and breezy conditions tomorrow afternoon into wednesday. looks unsettled thursday showers shut down and the weekend looking pretty nice there. something to look forward to heading toward saturday and sunday. >> we'll do that on a monday looking forward to anything we can. we love coming to work. don't we, folks? yes. bosses are listening. fremont southbound 880 past the truck scales light volume of traffic as you would expect. we'll show you the south bay where a lot of folks are headed. we see that stream of yellow southbound 101 heading into san jose. speeds there only about 60.

federal programs. republicans say they refuse to budge. the white house is banking on pressure from taxpayers to move things forward. it's something that has voters we spoke to frustrated. >> nobody wants to play. >> i know in my house when my budget gets tight, i stop spending. >> there's good news to tell you. a government shutdown could be temporarily averted. it's relative for good news at this point. congress expected to vote this week on a measure to keep the government open through the 2013 fiscal year which ends september 30th. the gridlock in washington poses an interesting dilemma affecting the wealthiest americans. for that and a look at your day on wall street, we say good morning to jackie deangelis live at cnbc world headquarters. hey, jackie. >> good morning, marla. futures are lower at this hour as markets are coming off a positive week. the dow of course will try again to top its all-time closing high. it actually came within 57 points of that mark on friday

posting the third highest ever close. meantime, no economic data today but investors looking ahead to friday's important jobs report. the dow rising 35 points on friday to 14,089. nasdaq up nine points to 3169. washington may be gridlocked over whether to raise taxes on the rich but it does appear that wealthy families are paying iie of the highest tax bills in decades. a study shows that for 2013 families with incomes in the top 20% will pay an average of 27% of their income in federal taxes. the top 1%, that's people with incomes around 1.4 million, pay about 35%. those rates include income, payroll and estate taxes. they are some of the highest rates we've seen since 1979. most families in the bottom 20% won't pay any taxes due to several of the credits that they can actually claim. back over to you. >> thank you very much.

rob mayeda is in for christina loren. sounds like you are getting us off to a cloudy start but decent outlook. >> with the clouds it's not too cold. that's the sunny outlook on the cloudy skies this morning. 40s and 50s outside right now and some drizzle possible before the low clouds break up before lunchtime today. you can see the numbers. 51 right now in sunnyvale. we're near 48 degrees in san francisco. oakland, 51. and the wind has been coming in off the ocean overnight helping to bring in extra moisture and give us that layer of low clouds we're waking up to this morning. as we head through the next few hours, drizzle possible some low clouds clearing skies around lunchtime and then tomorrow the clouds are going to fill in and the types of clouds that will bring us some breezy conditions rain and snow at times in the mountains heading toward middle part of the week. hour by hour today, you have mostly cloudy skies to start. we will see clearing around midday. for the afternoon we may see some pop-up showers here in the north bay hills and also near mt. hamilton for afternoon and

welcome back on a monday morning. we take you live to bucks county, pennsylvania. where a semi truck has unloaded a bunch of mail right out on the freeway there. letters after letters just filling up that expressway. traffic being diverted around that. we have not heard why this mail is spread all over. we're used to seeing friendly mail carriers bringing it to house. rarely do you see a truck du dumping them on the streets. hopefully they'll get the letters where they belong. across the pond, queen elizabeth remains hospitalized this morning. doctors have been treating the 86 year old for a stomach infection she's been battling

for days. this is the first time in a decade queen elizabeth has actually been in the hospital. she's been in great health. the illness forcing her to cancel several royal engagements including a trip to rome. actor harrison ford is bringing the spotlight to san jose. he was in town to receive cinequest's maverick award recognizing influential individuals who embody the innovative mindset. he showed that spirit in his new film called "42" set to be released this spring. ford plays brooklyn dodgers owner who actually signed jackie robinson and made history. >> i think it's an important american story that serves to hear well told and so i'm just happy to have worked on what i think is going to be a very good film. >> ford also says he finds
