them both died february 26th after they were gunned down while interviewing a sexual assault suspect. >> family, friends and officers will gather this morning in santa cruz for the procession to san jose. people will start to arrive at the san jose boardwalk. the procession will exit just north of downtown and drive a few blocks to the hp pal vilion. >> marla, good morning. >> reporter: jon and laura, good morning. hp pavilion not used to hosting events like this but they are ready for it all the same. officials expect 18,000 to 20,000 people to show up here a little bit later this morning to pay their final respects to sergeant lauren butch baker and detective elizabeth butler.

the the procession once it makes the 33-mile trek from santa cruz is expected to arrive at hp pavilion closer to 10:00 this morning. it will include more than 200 law enforcement vehicles. the memorial is scheduled to start at noon as you mentioned. inside we can tell you crews spent yesterday and evening making sure everything is ready to go. in the audience today, some 6,000 officers from all over the bay area and statewide. also thousands of just regular citizens who feel compelled to say their goodbyes to the detectives and of course the families of the fallen officers and we are told family members will speak today. also expected to take the podium, the police chief of santa cruz and capatolla. california attorney general kamala harris will say a few

guadalupe oak grove park. homicide investigators took pictures and tried to look for evidence. neighbors watched from their homes not believing what they were seeing. >> it's scary. you have a 17-year-old daughter. 14-year-old son. to see someone apparently a young teen or someone in their early 20s to see someone that young be involved and be murdered literally a hundred yards from your house is pretty scary. >> neighbors recently started a neighborhood watch to address the rise in crime. they say they have seen a rise in car and mailbox breakins. a follow-up to a breaking news story we first brought to you yesterday morning. this morning four suspects in jail after a tense six-hour sta standoff with s.w.a.t. officers in the bay view district starting before 4:00 a.m. yesterday morning when suspects all wearing ski masks robbed a

marijuana grow house. three suspects ran away and they were later arrested nearby. the last suspect eventually surrendered when armed tactical officers entered the building at 10:00 a.m. yesterday because the suspect said he didn't want to be bitten by a dog. investigators now checking records to see if the grow operation was legal. 4:37. san francisco police will answer questions from the community tonight surrounding the department's latest officer-involved shooting. that shooting happened in hunters point on tuesday. police say an 18-year-old man was trying to run from officers in a stolen bmw when he allegedly hit an officer and the parole car. two other officers opened fire injuring the suspect. he is expected to be okay. now as for the officer who was hit, he was treated and released. tonight's community meeting starts at 6:00 at city college of san jose's southeast campus. pg&e will be performing more safety tests on natural gas pipeline. the utility says it will vent a

small amount of gas and replace equipment from pipes located on sem lane in belmont. now, work will start this morning at 10:00 and expected to last for about two hours. it could soon be the times square of the silicon valley. city of san jose releasing its vision for expanding downtown and transforming the area around it. the plan calls for central entertainment district with room for new staud stadium for the a's and nearly 5 million square feet of new office space. the station area plan would also add a b.a.r.t. extension and a bullet train hub to its existing services which include caltrain and amtrak. the city plans to draft an environmental impact report on that plan in june. it's 4:38 right now. a cool, brisk start to your day. christina loren is here to paint the full picture. good morning.

thumbs up for his latest attempt to bring the two sides together over dinner. last night the president sat down with nearly a dozen republican senators at the jefferson hotel. the goal, the white house says, was to reduce tensions between mr. obama and the gop, not only on budget issues but on gun control, immigration as well. the white house says the president personally picked up the tab. >> i'm encouraged by the president's outreach. i hope it bears fruit. >> meantime house republicans passed a budget yesterday to prevent a government shutdown later this month. the government keeps last year's spending and the sequestration cuts in place. we hear they are skipping botox but facebook is getting a facelift. the menlo park company announcing changes to your news feed. photos and videos will reportedly be bigger and better according to facebook. and for the first time, users will get to customize what appears in their news feeds.

these changes will also help facebook learn what users want, which is of course very valuable information for advertisers. >> it's 4:45. the faa could soon approve a fix for boeing's dreamliner clearing the way for test flights as soon as next week. another record close for wall street. jackie deangelis is live at cnbc world held quarters and joins us now with all of the details. good morning, jackie. >> good morning. futures right now slightly higher to flat at this point after the dow pushed to another new all-time closing high yesterday as you said. investors cheered on by a better than expected report on private sector job growth. now today we're going to get data on unemployment. also the trade deficit, productivity and labor costs and consumer credit as well. the fed releasing results from the latest round of bank stress tests this afternoon. we saw the dow rise 42 points to close at 14,296. the nasdaq slipped one point yesterday to 3222. the national transportation safety board will give an update

this morning on its investigation into the battery issue on boeing 787 dreamliner jet. this coming as reports say the faa is close to approving boeing's battery fix. the dreamliner has been grounded for seven weeks and cost an estimated $350 million. laura, back to you. >> thank you. have a great day. 4:47 right now. we check back in with christina loren telling us about a chilly start to the day. are we going to warm up a little bit? >> a little bit. not by much. the rain will come in for the evening commute. quite the contrary from yesterday. this morning you are looking good. winds have dropped off. it's chilly out there. cold enough for black ice to form. watch out for that especially in the north bay where temperatures are just a few degrees above that freezing mark. with he do have showers on the way. they are going to take their time. it looks like we could see a good dusting of snow. all of the way down to 2,000 or 2,500 feet throughout the

morning hours. this morning spotty activity especially up in the north bay but overall the bulk of the moisture still sits offshore. this will move in through 10:00, 11:00. let's take it to future cast and talk about what's to come for today. we stop the clock at 9:00 a.m. we'll remain dry throughout most of the rush hour. that's good news. then between 9:00 and 1:00 we get quite a bit of activity along the peninsula. we stop that clock for you at 6:00 p.m. widespread showers and this is the time we're going to be most concerned about that threat for strong thunderstorms. some of these storms could produce brief heavy downpours, gusts to 60 miles per hour and of course we still have that potential for pea to dime sized hail here in the bay area. we'll watch that for you on alert today. by 11:00 p.m., showers start to dissipate. then as we wake up and meet back here tomorrow morning, we'll start out nice and clear and cool. seven-day outlook tells the story. major changes headed our way. we'll jump from 50s today right back to the mid 70s.

let them near that victim so they had to kill it. they're trying to figure out what proef ovoked the attack. >> we'll have our wildlife forensic lab look at the animal and determine if the animal did in fact attack the subject. >> pictures from hanson's facebook page show her working with those big cats. her father says his daughter was fearless and this was her dream job. >> she liked them so much. she always felt that she could handle it. she wasn't afraid. she wasn't the slightest bit afraid to get in the cages with those things, those big cats. she had no problem all those years getting in cages with them. >> the lion involved in the fatal attack was considered an ambassador for the sanctuary and made many public appearances. >> look at those claws. you can imagine what he will be like when he weighs 500 or 600 pounds. >> this is video of the lion on "less thellen degeneres" show w

was just a cub. the families of some bay area victims of the september 11th attacks are now calling the tsa's decision to allow pocket knives on flights is ridiculous. one woman says the tsa's decision to allow folding knives with blades is a betrayal. >> to completely turn our back on the possibility that a plane could be hijacked using low tech items, to turn our back on that is to condemn ourselves to repeat history. i don't have anymore sons to give out. >> she believes the changes are because the tsa is simply embarrassed about the amount of small knives that have made it through security screening. under the new policy, passengers can also carry some sports equipment like golf clubs and

we have comprehensive coverage of today's plans. mike inouye keeping an eye on road closures and marla tellez has details about the services at hp pavilion but we begin with bob redell live in santa cruz this morning where that procession will start. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. a very long funeral procession. it will include at least a couple hundred vehicles from law enforcement, fire, first responders, and of course the family of both officers. it will leave the third street parking lot by the boardwalk around 8:45 this morning for a slow drive to the hp pavilion for this afternoon's memorial service in honor of sergeant lauren baker and officer elizabeth butler who were shot and killed last week by a man they were investigating for a sex crime. yesterday hundreds of people from the community paid their respects at santa cruz memorial where the fallen officers caskets were on public display
