rocket forces are ready to settle accounts with the u.s. the latest hostile rhetoric is a reaction to the stealth bombers that flew over south korea during joint training drills. the maneuver was meant to show america's ability to do conduct precision strikes quickly and at will. experts say the north is likely years away from developing long range missiles. back at home, gun control advocates held rallies across the country thursday as president obama hosted mothers of gun violence victims at the white house. the president urged the country not to forget the tragedy at sandy hook. while repeating his promise to fight to reduce gun violence. nbc's danielle lee has more from washington. danielle, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. reform advocates hope more than 100 events yesterday will energize the nation. here on capitol hill lawmakers even democrats remain a tough sell on the issue. parents of the newtown shooting

victims struggled to digest new details released about the shooter adam lanza. documents reveal he fired more than 150 bullets inside sandy hook elementary in under five minutes. his deadliest weapon a bush master semi-automatic rifle and ten 30-round magazines. nicole hockley lost her son. >> every new piece of information is painful because it brings us back to december 14th. >> reporter: even in newtown there's not agreement over gun reform. yesterday protesters for and against stricter laws faced off. >> you can't make legislation based on emotion. you need to do it by fact. >> reporter: gun control advocates gathered at more than a hundred rallies across the country. >> we need to change the whole culture of violence in this country. >> reporter: newtown parents spoke in a new video campaign by michael bloomberg. >> our daughter grace was 7 years old. >> reporter: from the white house president obama demanded the nation remember their loss. >> the entire country pledged we

would do something about it and this time would be different. shame on us if we have forgotten. >> reporter: he's trying to revive dropping momentum. recent polls indicate that support for new gun laws that rose after the shooting have dropped about ten points. back here on capitol hill at least six democrats could vote against new laws. reporting live in washington, i'm danielle lee. dara, back to you. >> thanks for that. a 22-year-old woman has been arrested on charges of providing a gun to the man of killing tom clements. officials said stevie marie vigil bought the gun legally and then gave it to ebel. he could not guy buy a gun of his own. she appeared in court yesterday and faces 16 years in prison if convicted. a spokesperson says investigators are not certain yet if she knew about ebel's plans to kill tom clements.

>> pope francis is 16 days into his papacy and already he's making headlines for his unusual inclusion in yesterday's holy thursday rite. the washing of the feet carried out by pope francis sparked debate when the new leader became the first pope ever to wash and kiss the feet of a woman. a surprising departure from strict church rules limiting the holy thursday ritual to men only. some welcomed the act as a sign of inclusiveness on the church. there were reenactments of the crucifixion. the extreme ritual is opposed by the nation's religious leaders. this morning news that credit card fraud can strike anyone because the victim is supreme court chief justice john roberts. someone got a hold of one of the justice's credit card account numbers but declined further comment. a "the washington post" blog

welcome back. stories making headlines this morning. the environmental protection agency is set to announce new rules reducing the amount of sulfur allowed in gasoline by two-thirds. it's an effort to improve performance of engines to fight smog. opponents say it will only help to raise the price of gasoline. the ground is still moving on the site of that massive landslide in washington state. at least one home was destroyed wednesday. this morning at least five remain under evacuation orders and 18 are still inaccessible. a new campaign in tucson promises free shotguns for people to protect themselves. the armed citizens project is part of a national campaign to give firearms to single women and homeowners in the nation's crime-ridden neighborhoods. >> health officials in oklahoma say a rogue dentist could have

exposed 7,000 patients to hiv and hepatitis. letters are going out to previous patients of dr. harrington urging them to get tested. new figures show the defense for murder suspect jodi arias has cost the state of arizona a $1.4 million since 2008. state law guarantees capital murder suspects two death qualified lawyers. the trial is weeks away from going to the journey. and two russians and an american docked with the international space station and did it in record time. the soyuz shot the men into space on a new orbit maneuver taking less than six hours from launch to docking. the trading markets are closed on this holiday but stocks finished the week and the first quarter of 2013 in fine fashion. the s&p 500 and the dow reaching record highs while the nasdaq continues to rise. for the first quarter of 2013 the dow was up 11.25%, the s&p

up over 10% and the nasdaq up well over 8%. the financial crisis in cyprus is seemingly calm on the second day banks are open after a two-week shutdown. google has been forced to back track on its google glass program. they had to uninvite some 8,000 selected for the pilot program because they shouldn't have been chosen and didn't mean to apply the first place. turns out that pedr pedro quezada, the man who won the powerball jackpot owes $29 million in back child support. new york yankee alex rodriguez will make more this year than all of the houston astros baseball team combined. a lot more. a-rod won't play until mid-season but his $29 million salary beats the entire houston salary of $25 million. a hat tip to jane wells at cnbc on this item. this is likely an april fool's prank but was too delicious to pass up.

the lead editorial this morning in "the new york times" malicious obstruction in the senate. the piece points out when president obama poisaid to ease on filibusters he may as well have been talking to statues in the capital. and alaska congressman don young apologized but described workers who picked tomatoes as wet backs. a good samaritan fell into action after a man walked off the subway platform. now hailed a hero, the man jumped onto the tracks while others called to stop the trains. they say he will be okay. to virginia now security video shows a foiled robbery after a store clerk managed to fight off the suspect.

as robber aimed his gun at one employee the other was able to run out the door where he got into a tugging match over the gun. the robber ran off without any loot. the tulsa zoo had a little surprise for its larger than life residents. elephants were treated to their own easter egg hunt yesterday. instead of chocolate bunnies they tore open papier mache eggs filled with delicious hay. a man found a furry surprise when he opened his hood and found a cat. she was nicknamed sierra and hopefully she is back to chasing mice. in sports four teams march on to the elite 8. number four syracuse knocks off indiana 61-50. super bowl winning coach john harbaugh was in the stands.
