980 off of 880 at broadway, there is some reports of floting approaching the caldicot tunnel. if you are using 980 or any other local highway, we had rain and we are still seeing heavy pockets of showers so there could be some more flooding. we'll keep you posted. back to the lovely jon and marla. new this morning, two people recovering after being shot on a muni bus in san francisco. police say the shooting happened near mission and valencia street last night. a 25-year-old woman was shot in the stomach and a 25-year-old man was hit in the leg. both are expected to survive. police now looking for the shooter who ran away from that scene. >> the memorial for a star athlete killed while home for spring break is growing this morning in san francisco. friends and family are leaving flowers and candles at the spo the in the mission's district where 19-year-old jacob

valdiveazo was killed early saturday morning. police say he was outside his home near san francisco general hospital with a friend when a man got out of the car, asked if he was in a gang, shooting him at the same time. so he attended lewis and clark college in portland, oregon, where he played football. police are still looking for the gunman. this morning, bay area investigators still trying to figure out exactly what caused a tour bus to catch fire. only the driver was on board when the flames just started pouring out of the engine in vallejo last night. quite a scene there. nearby trees caught fire which in turn threatened an apartment complex. it was evacuated but no damage reported. the fire eventually shut down parts of interstate 80 for about 90 minutes. we are happy to report, nobody was hurt. 4:34. four people are recovering from their injuries after a bizarre scene played out at a walmart in san jose. a driver crashed into the store and then starting attacking customers. our crews got to the walmart on

story road as they were pulling the car out. it went about 30 feet into the store. look at that. the driver side swiped several cars in the parking lot before crashing through the entrance. police say he then got out of the car and started hitting people with a blunt object. police say they don't know what caused the man to lose control but think drugs may be involved. he was taken to jail and his name has yet to be released some sad news here. olympic gold medalist and former san jose state sprinter ronny ray smith has died. he attended san jose state during the speed area of the '60s under coach bud winter. he won the 400-meter relay at the 1968 mexico city olympics and made a world record at that event. he died yesterday in los angeles, 64 years old. a san jose firefighter who almost died on the job last year

is just hours away from suiting back up and getting back to work for day one. frank ryan had a heart attack while fighting flames at st. patrick's cathedral in downtown san jose in august. his fellow firefighters gave him immediate medical attention saving his life. ryan has been a san jose firefighters for 17 years and a paramedic for 20 years before that. coming up at 5:00, what he has to say about being back on the job a big-time medical change for women taking effect as of today. women getting a routine mammogram will see a big-time difference, not in the actual screening itself but in the information they get following that checkup. a new state law requires doctors doing mammogram screening to inform their patients if they have dense breast tissue, which makes it harder to spot tumors and correctly evaluate the results of a mammogram. doctors say in some cases, an ultrasound after a mammogram may be more effective. the bill was penned by former

state senator, joe sumdian who is now a santa krar county supervisor. people all over the bay area will be paying a little more in taxes. a new sales tax goes into effect in a number of bay area counties this morning. this extra money will go towards everything, from schools to health care to road repairs and the sales tax in santa clara jumpi jumping .08 of a percent, paying 8.75%. in san mateo, 9%. in marin county, 8.5%. other cities seeing a jump, orinda, novato, san rafael and campbell, 9%. san mateo will increase to $9.25%. half moon bay, moraga and albany, all increase to 9.5%. >> if you have city business to take care of, you may want to call ahead first.

many city offices will be closed in recognition of cesar chavez day, easter, yesterday, march 31st. the city of menlo park wants to make the roads safer for all you bikers. construction to widen the road and install new curving starts today. a 250-foot section of the road near stanford golf course isn't wide enough for bike lanes. the city plans to fix that. major traffic delays are expected. the process will impact motorcycle and bike riders along this route. the project started after a deadly accident on alpine and interstate 280. i don't know about you. it has been a while since i actually woke up to rain. >> just off the umbrella. where is it? >> you have an umbrella. i'm happy to hear that. >> meteorologist, christina loren. temperatures this morning are rather mild. showers coming down.

i wanted to start with the best news that i can possibly bring you on a monday morning. that is that we took a big chunk out of our deficit in terms of our average rainfall in parts of the bay area, specially the parts that saw the strong thunderstorms. brought quite a bit of rain to oakland, over 1.5 inches, just your 24-hour total. we have yet to get to your grand storm totals over the three days, period. let's talk about windsor. almost an inch of rain there. berkeley, almost an inch of rain, southbound san jose, over a quarter of an inch. we needed it. still getting the rain on the radar. wanted to do some storm tracking for you. the south bay is getting hit the hardest. these showers are moving from south to north. it is the subtropical air that is coming up. that's why it is not so cold out there this morning. watch out for slick conditions as the showers have been steadily coming down over the past three hours. we are still getting quite a bit of activity in the east bay. you can see a pretty good cell.

reports of flooded roadways, not really slowing traffic all that much. there is an accident that just occurred in the south bay and san jose at 280 and winchester boulevard. it is on the shoulder. not causing any slowdowns there. the rhodoads are wet. use caution. 4:40 now. b.a.r.t. officials will meet to talk about the agencies recent bike pilot program. earlier this month, b.a.r.t. launched a week-long test program allowing bikes on the train including busy morning and afternoon. members of the b.a.r.t. bike sickle task force will discuss funding for that program and the next step for bikes on b.a.r.t., they will preview bike accommodations on new trains as well. it is open to the public. >> the cal women taking a shot at the final four tonight, the first time ever they have done this. they beat lsu on saturday advancing to cal's very first elite school -- that was the

welcome back. 4:45. stockton's bankruptcy case is expected to get a ruling from a federal judge today. the cash-strapped city filed for chapter 9 bankruptcy protection after the financial crisis devastated tax revenues. it follows a three-day trial last week where the city says it is $26 million in debt. historically, municipal bankruptcies has been rare. this ruling could set a precedent for other troubled u.s. cities. san bernardino has filed and some expect detroit to be next. rumors are flying again. menlo park's facebook will be entering the smart phone market. we turn things over to jackie deangeles live at cnbc world headquarters. good morning. good morning to you. the futures are higher this morning coming off the holiday weekend. kicking off the newmont and the

second quarter. there could be light trading bus europe and parts of asia are closed for easter monday. muted react in south korea's market after the latest war threats from the north. data here in the u.s. on manufacturing and construction spending. the dow coming off its best first quarter since 1998. april is historically the dow's best month of the year. on thursday, the dow rose 52 points to 14,578. the nasdaq adding 11 points to 3267. facebook wants a bigger presence on your phone. the social networking site is holding an event to show off what it calls its new home on android. speculation is that the company will unveil a new smart phone that would be made by htc. that would have facebook, its interface built on top of google's droid mobile software. reports saying it will display a version of the user's facebook page on the home screen when it is turned back on. >> thank you very much, jackie.

we'll check a little later on. what's the saying, april showers bring may flowers? >> yes, very nice. >> refreshing. what about that snow that's out there? april fool's. april fool's. temperatures out there are mild. we have a little bit of snow in tahoe, 7,000 feet. if you have been itching to shred the nar up there, this might be one of your last weekends to do so. otherwise, 57 degrees with showers coming down in sunnyvale. we are looking at 54 in concord and 55 in san jose. i had to get the april fools out of the way right off the bat so you don't get hosed later on today. plenty of showers on the way mostly in the south bay. a little bit of a break from santa rosa down south to san francisco. yellow, orange, moderate showers. down 17, you might find treacherous conditions. showers have been steadily coming in. right now, starting to break apart a little bit.

saturday and sunday, guys, as well. usually rs usually, we complain about the rain. a little too close with the deficit. back over to you. right now, new video to show you of just this massive pileup, happened in virginia. look at this. almost 100 vehicles were involved in this chain reaction crash, which happened yesterday near the virginia/north carolina border. three people died and at least 25 were hurt. it was actually 17 crashes happening within a single mile stretch of the interstate. the cause of the initial crash is under investigation. state police think that thick fog is likely to blame. the accused colorado shooter will find out if, in fact, he will be facing the death penalty. prosecutors expected to announce their decision for james holmes in court. just last week, rejecting a plea deal that would have sent holmes to prison for life.

the 25-year-old stands accused of killing 12 and injuring seven others last july at an aurora movie theater. a historic day in myanmar. privately owned newspapers are hitting the news stands. they have not had a free press since the 1960s when the country's ruling military junta imposed a state monopoly on the media. in 2011, the country's president put in several reforms aimed at opening up the country which led to today's change a big-time breakthrough in the efforts to reform our immigration laws. we could see the results as early as this week. democrats and republicans working together to come up with a way to keep illegal workers in the country. the afl-cio and the u.s. chamber of commerce agreeing on details that would allow up to 200,000 immigrants and workers to say here legally starting in 2015.
