after a student tested positive at deer valley high school in antioch. it is the first case in four years. county health services will be on campus offering testing to anyone who may have shared a classroom or been in a club with the infected student. in all, more than 200 students will be tested. the man accused of driving his car through the front of walmart on easter is expected to be back in court about a similar incident at a gas station. this shows him crashing through a front window of a gas station in december. he was arrested and released on bail. he will be in court for that case and sentencing for a marijuana charge on 20116789 he was also accused of driving an oldsmobile cutlass into a walmart on easter sunday and jumping out of the car and attacking people with a metal

pole. the former head of san mateo's probation department will be in court for a preliminary hearing. stuart forrest, accused of possessing child pornography. he now faces up to six years in jail if convicted. the san francisco board of supervisors is set to vote on a plan to make thousands ready for the earthquake. it would force owners of soft story buildings to make seismic retrofits to try to make the buildings safer, including buildings with garages on the bottom that are at least three stories tall and built before 1978. they were concerned that landlords would pass the cost on to them through rent increases. they have worked out a compromise that would allow some tenants to avoid the increase santa clara city leaders dreaming big exploring their options for a chunk of land near

$82 million facility where they could park and service their jets. they are saying it will generate more than $2 million in rent per year caltrans investigates the broken bolts on the bridge. there is no excuse for why more than 30 of the high-strength steel rods snapped after being tightened. there are several ways that steel could have been weakened, including improper handling including construction. now, defective coating on the outside of the metal or wrong temperature when the metal was manufactured. caltrans is expected to present some of the findings of its investigation tomorrow. 4:36. people living along the peninsula coast want to give their fire district board the boot. a special recall election will be held today for the co-side fire protection district.

of earning season. we turn things over to seema mody. the markets rebounded nicely from friday's job reports. alcoacould impact trading today. the aluminum giant is the first big company to report first quarter earnings. it posted mixed results last night. we took data out on wholesale trade. the dow rising 48 points. the nasdaq adding 18 to close at 3222. the top story on our radar, boeing's grounded 787 could soon be back flying the friendly skies. united airlines which has six dreamliners in its fleet has put the jets back on the flight schedule for may. it has been grounded since january after two incidents in tokyo and boston involving its lithium eye on battery system. on friday, they completed their certification testing of a redesigned battery and is waiting for the faa to sign off.

jon, back to you. >> tharng ynk you very much for update. on capitol hill, some families of victims killed in the newtown school shooting massacre will be lob bying congress for stricter gun laws. they will meet with senators who have not backed proposed gun control legislation. they arrived in washington aboard air force one as personal guests of president obama. the president had earlier spoken at an event in connecticut pushing for tougher gun laws. new this morning, crews cleaning up near the campus of the university of michigan after fans set coaches and mattresses on fire. they were upset over michigan's loss in last night's ncaa basketball championship game. that is ridiculous. firefighters working through the early morning hours trying to put out the flames. happy to report, nobody was hurt. at least two people were arrested and police also forced an accident in louisville after celebration simply got out of hand and things started to wind down early this morning.

an officer was attacked, forcing riot police into action. most students quickly left that area but there were several scuffles and officers were hit there with bottles that were blown forcing police to use tear gas and an armored car was brought in to try to help restore order out there. things we can tell you now are calm in the area all around that university but, guess what, that festive atmosphere maybe jump-started all over again in louisville as the lady cardinals play for their national title taking on connecticut. a lawsuit involve mortgage than 4,000 former nfl players heads to court today. it will be erd heard in a philadelphia courthouse that includes more than 200 consolidated lawsuits accusing the nfl of concealing the long-term dangers of concussions. today, nfl lawyers will ask to have the case dismissed arguing that player grievances are covered by union contracts. players argue that the contracts do not protect them from fraud

or negligence by the nfl. a trial involving warning labels on baby food continues today in oakland. a bay area environmental group suing the country's biggest baby food makers, including gerber and del monte. they want the companies to include information about low amounts of led on the label. they are testifying average led levels in baby food fall below the threshold for warning labels under california standards a small boat swept away by the japanese tsunami has landed in northern kra krachlt a group of people walking along the beach found the 20-foot boat covered in baranacles. take a look at that. the boat has japanese writing on the side and appears to have licensing stickers as well. is the first piece of debris to wash ashore in california? experts studying the earthquake and tsunami have predicted that debris would start hitting the

welcome back on a tuesday morning. how are you feeling? hopefully, good. it is going to be a nice one. your sharking out on the road trying to get back in the win column. they take on the blue jackets in columbus tonight. three baby owls recovering after some strong winds apparently knocked them from their nest in santa cruz county. wildlife emergency services say the little owls fell from a eucalyptus tree outside of wassenville yesterday afternoon. rescuers are caring from the l owls. at least two are in good shape and could be returned to the tree sometime soon. they have placed a modified laundry basket up in the tree to

good morning to you. thanks so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia cannon. i'm jon kelley. hundreds of students at a bay area high school will be tested for tuberculosis this week after a student tested positive. "today in the bay's" christie smith is live in antioch with more. >> reporter: the contra costa county health department will be here later this week testing any student that may have shared a class or been in some sort of student club with the student that was diagnosed with tuberculosis. the testing comes one week after the student was diagnosed. exactly how many students will be tested here at deer valley high is unclear. it is estimated to be at least 200 students. now, the principal sent a letter home explaining exactly what

happened here. letting parents know that the testing will be going on. there is no evidence that there is any other case of tuberculosis at the school. the students that contracted the disease, that one student, back at school and is okay, actually came back yesterday. tu ber kilo sis is an airborne bacterial infection of the lung spread through the air when a person coughs, sneezes, shouts or talks. the symptoms include a prolanged weakness or fatigue, rapid weight loss of ten pounds, fevers, night sweats, chest pain and coughing up blood in some cases. testing is expected here on thursday. it is the first in the contra costa county campus since the student at antioch high school had tuberculosis in 2009. reporting live, kr is sti smith. students at st. mary's are on alert after a student said she was sexually assaulted

saturday morning. she met her attacker off tam pus friday night. they reported the crime to the police department. st. mary's has issued a public safety crime alert in response police have arrested two of three suspects involved in a gilroy homicide. the third considered armed and dangerous, still on the run. 21-year-old jose morales cortez along with an unnamed mail juvenile are currently in jail. officers still looking for 21-year-old juan guerra of gilroy. they are suspected of shooting and killing one man and injuring another last wednesday near downtown. neighbors say the men were walking from a nearby market when they were attacked. there is no word yet on a motive. san francisco's police chief will soon talk to neighbors in the mission district about a recent officer-involved shooting. it happened early sunday morning outside a bar near valencia and 17th street. police opened fire when they saw the suspect pointing a gun at a group of pele
