good morning, everybody. thanks for getting up early with us. i'm jon kelley. i'm marla tallez in for laura garcia-cannon. a san jose woman is behind bars accused of putting poisonous orange juice in the cold case at a starbucks near her home. she might have pulled off this stunt if it wasn't for an alert customer and quick-thinking barista. bob redell is live with the story. >> reporter: police have arrested a south bay woman, a 50-year-old woman, that they believe acted alone. they do not know why she alleged will i spiked two bottles of orange juice with rubbing alcohol and left them inside this starbucks on snell avenue which has reopened. she created this mixture elsewhere and brought it inside the store around 3:30, 3:45. a customer became suspicious as she allegedly pulled the bottles out of her bag and put them in a

refrigerated display case where other chilled items are sold. an employee sniffed the o.j. and noticed a toxic smell. hazmat tested the juice and determined it had been mixed with rubbing alcohol which by itself can be dangerous if injested. >> after boston, you just learn to accept just about anything you see on the street anymore. it is sad but it seems to be what you get in the news, right? >> it should be noted that no one drank either of the bottles of orange juice or the rubbing alcohol inside as they were told before that happened or could have been sold to any customers. as far as how they caught this woman, an employee happened to jot down her license plate number and police were able to rack it to her home where they arrested her last night. bob redell, "today in the bay." this afternoon, the san jose city council reviewing its decision to stop a policy aimed at cutting down on racial

profiling. the policy required officers to document all stops they make, even if there is no arrest, including the person's race and whether they are told to sit on a curb. the new acting chief suspended that policy before it was ever put into practice. just last week, an independent auditor releasing reports criticizing the chief's decision. investigators say they have found no signs of foul play in the death of a san francisco's sheriff deputy who was found dead in the bay yesterday. search teams found michael roberts body floating in the vallejo marina yesterday afternoon. hours earlier, roberts boat had been found adrift. it's not clear how roberts ended up in the water. 6:03 right now. time to check back in with meteorologist, christina loren. i know we are still at the end of april but close to 100 degrees in some areas. specially thursday. that is the day you want to mark on your calendars. today, not too bad.

good morning to you. what a beautiful way to start the day. this is san bruno. i did tell you that we are going to see a little bit more low cloud cover this morning. as a result, our temperatures wouldn't be quite as scorching hot. that's what we are noticing, a few, high, wispy clouds over the day. the sun is up. it doesn't set until 7:55. temperatures this morning, as mild as yesterday. we are in the mid-50s. a couple of low 50s. 50s straight up in gilroy and 48 in santa cruz to start. santa cruz will hit the 70s if you want to hit the beach. nice out there. 80s at the beach, stick around. your seven-day forecast shows you when that comes into play. the micro climate starting to kick in. we are already pretty strong in san francisco. sustained at 12 miles per hour. the warmer colors. that's where the strongest wind will be at 4:00 p.m., winds are going to be really gusty through the north bay hills. keep that in mind. not a great day to be out there

having beach barbecue. it is going to be so windy. better days with calmer winds. for today, 88 degrees inland. 78 degrees bayside at the coast. 72 degrees. a lot happening in the traffic department. mike is all over it at 6:05. >> i am refreshing my chp report trying to get the latest from them. they are requested the latest update. i will give you the latest we see. the big rig and the big rig to you have been pulled off to the side. all the activity off to the shoulder of the eastshore freeway. traffic is not moving very smoothly. farther back, east of here, around cutting boulevard, they still have the flares in lanes. the chp hasn't picked them up. folks are hesitant to use that lane. you see, they are still funneling over to two or one lane as you are passing by the scene of where the big rig used to be. they are starting to cross over

let's stay on that cool pattern with mike inouye. >> still cooler now that traffic is starting to move better. this does not look like great slow traffic. this is west 880. as you are coming off of the carquinez bridge, they merge. this is the gem you encounter. we have a sig alert blocking half of your freeway. this is the backup. let's look at the map and show you the jam that comes down through the area. here is where that sig alert originated. it was finally pulled to the shoulder. it is right around carlson as you pass by and approach that area past the golden gate fields. there are no problems coming off that richmond bridge. you are a little bit lighter flowing toward the bridge. you are jammed out on westbound highway 4 toward 880. a smoother flow toward emeryville. a live look. you see all lanes now backed up.

to new york stock exchange. as they ring it in, this is a treat. that is tony scarf, better known as robert downie jr., star of iron man 2, that opens up this friday. you may want to check it out. tuesday, april 30th. this is "today in the bay." i'm jon kelley. i'm marla tallez in for laura garcia-cannon. new this morning, pittsburg police are asking for your help finding a suspect wanted in an attempted kidnapping. take a look at this photo police released this morning. investigators say the suspect may have driven this suv similar to a ford explorer. last friday, the suspect allegedly snatched a 2-year-old girl from her own front yard at a home on snowflake way near california season's park. he was holding on to the girl when the victim's mother yelled. startled, he dropped the girl and took off.

the 2-year-old was not hurt but she is traumatized. neighbors in the small town of valley springs holding a vigil for an eight-year-old girl found stabbed to death inside her home. investigators now questioning sex offenders and pa roe lees anywhere near that neighbor. her 12-year-old brother said he saw a stranger leaving their house and then saw his sister's body inside. until the killer is caught, that entire community on edge. >> we have all of our windows, doors locked. we have bars in our double-paned sliding windows. we don't go outside. we don't walk our dogs. at night. >> that is scary and terrifying for everyone there. a vigil will be held at leila's

elementary school starting at 7:00. crews are sifting through soil near the world trade center at the spot where train wreckage was found just last week. katherine craig joining us from lower manhattan with a look at what the investigation could end up revealing about the 9/11 terror attacks. >> reporter: investigators discovered a big piece of the plane behind this building. this is where you see a lot of trucks set up, medical examiner trucks and the new york city police department. a lot of people want to know what else will investigators find. >> workers from the city's medical examiner's office will begin searching through soil for human remains near where investigators found parts of a plane. the pieces are believed to be from one of the jets that crashed at the towers on 9/11. the piece is part of a trailing edge flap from a wing. it remains wedged between two buildings, one on park place, the other on murray street.

investigators have yet to determine which plane it came from but this map released by fema shows it may belong to united flight 175 which hijackers moved into the south tower. new yorkers say it is an interesting find. >> buildings in new york are packed societily. there are all these crevices. interesting. >> they may find little bits of things on roof tops for the next several years. i'm glad they are going to be able to connect it. >> reporter: the discovery came after workers from the medical examiner's office have been sifting through soil for the remains of 9/11 victims. rich's son, jimmy, died on 9/11 responding to the attacks. >> i have my son's body. i have a cemetery to go to. there are 40% of the families that have never had a recovery. it is very sad, very hard. >> reporter: soon after investigators found the part of the plane, questions came up with a rope that seemed to be tied around the wreckage.

officially registered for the race. boston marathon had 25,000 runners. the beta breakers has even more show up. >> it is set for may 19th. >> can you believe we are one day away? according to the forecast, meteorologist, christina loren, some more high temps today. >> another hot one. good morning to you, jon and marla. good morning to you at home. i want to start with the good news. beautiful out there. mid-50s. more cloud cover on your drive to work. that is indicative of a little bit of an onshore floor that we picked up this morning. that's going to keep your temperatures down 3-5 degrees in some cases. not a lot of cloud cover here. this is the one place where we will likely be spared from the really strong winds. for elevations above 1,000 feet and that stands until tomorrow evening. you want to keep that in mind. it is going to be kind of blustery.

morning. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jon and marla. the longest ever for the oakland a's here at the coliseum. 19 innings. at about 1:42 this morning, i spoke briefly with the maintenance worker this morning. he said he showed up for his midnight shift as usual when he would show up after a game. he found out it wasn't even close to over. normally, he says he would be cleaning the stands. he cleaned the bathrooms and waited for it to end. after 6 1/2 hours, brandon moss ended it with a two-run homer to beat the angels, 10-8. the a's have their backs against the wall losing two center fielders. the normal seven-inning stretch got a double play with a 14-inning stretch overnight. moss finally put a stop to it. >> i don't think i even made contact. getting blown away by 95 after six hours. that's not very fair. you just hang with it and hope

inside the store around 3:30 yesterday afternoon. a customer became suspicious as she allegedly pulled the bottles out of her bag and put them in a refrigerated display case where other chilled items elike milk and yogurt are stored. an employee sniffs the yogurt and noticed it had a toxic smell. mixed with rubbing alcohol can be dangerous if injested. >> a little bit apprehensive when my daughter comes to the display case and takes something out of the display case to drink. >> it could happen anywhere. >> reporter: investigate gators were able to track down this woman after one of ploit es jotted down her license plate. they tracked td license plate number to her address where they arrested her last night. no one injested niece mixtures and no one was hurt.

no injuries or damage but a jolt after an overnight earthquake near gilroy. the 3.0 quake struck about 10:00 last night. the epicenter appears to fall on the calaveras fault. we have a follow-up to a story we first brought to you sunday night hours before a fire ripped through a vacant hotel in mountainview. police arrested somebody on the suspicion of trespassing. we were there to get videos of the fire. the flames quickly spread because there was no sprinkler system. they arrested the trespasser about five hours before the flames broke out. it is unclear if the arrest is linked to the fire. a follow-up to a story we

recently did on so-called patient dumping. two workers have just been fired and another three disciplined from the psychiatric hospital in las vegas. four others also involved in the scandal no longer work there. this comes after an investigation found patients were routinely bussed to cities in several states, including san francisco and then left there. the sacramento reports since 2008, more than 1500 people have been transported out of nevada. the fallout from last summer'sout bre summer's outbreak a woman seeking $3.25 million from resorts. she claims $1 million worth of medical bills and is suffering from diminished lung capacity. three people ended up dying and several others were sickened by this outbreak. a pilot is dead after they
