electric motors, can only fly 30-40 miles an hour. if it has any head winds, it will be going slower than that. this is a 19, a 20-hour flight for one man who obviously cannot take a nap or anything along those lines during this trip. i asked him, i said, what did you do to prepare? are you on red bull? how much sleep did you get? >> he said, well, i went to bed at 9:00 last night. no red bull. he says, what's driving him is the passion that him and his business partner have in this project to prove that, afrm"a," can be done and more importantly, to promote clean technology. >> if we want to have a good future, we need this clean technology. these clean technologies need to get out of the labs, the universities, our experimental airplanes to be used everywhere in our world for cars, for houses, heating, cooling systems, lighting system.

>> reporter: i think that's most remarkable about looking at solar impulse is just how large she is. she has a wingspan that's equivalent, greater than a 747. despite of that size, she doesn't weigh much. she still has carbon fiber. weighs about the equivalent of a car and has the horsepower of a scooter. it is hard to say. on top of the wings, there are the solar cells that prepare her during the day and charge the batteries for use during the night. as you can see right now, they are rotating the two closest engines to the cockpit. this is their rev-up. they will do a quick test of those on the outside and around 6:00, all four will spurt and she will take off. we watched her test flight over a week ago. what's fascinating, when she does take off, she is so slow as i mentioned. at some point, if there is enough head wind, she will be standing still aloft in the air, not moving anywhere. possibly, moving backwards.
