owners as we head into our wild fire season. >> a live look outside, oracle arena. you made it to thursday. it is may 9th. this is "today in the bay." yes, indeed. it is friday eve. getting close to the weekend. good morning. it's 4:31. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. we begin with breaking news. a frantic search for a stabbing suspect near the park. today's marla tallez got to the scene very quickly near lee and kurt ner. >> reporter: within the last 15 minutes, this breaking news has wrapped up out here. this is door park behind me. as you mentioned, this is near lee and kurtner in. cambrain district. this was surrounded by san jose police, with patrol cars

cordoning off each corner, their lights shining on the park looking for a stabbing suspect. at 1:15, a man stabbed another man. the officer on scene wouldn't tell me specifically where. in the last three hours, they have been searching for this suspect. in the last 15 minutes, they have found this person after conducting a yard to yard search. as for the rick victim, the other man he stabbed, he was taken to regional medical center with nonlife threatening injuries. the scene has wrapped up. the patrol cars have gone on their way. we'll follow that all morning long. right now, let's check some things out in the weather department. christina loren is hire to fill us in. good morning. good morning to you at home. we are so close to the weekend. temperatures are going to be perfection for your outdoor

plans. we had kind of a cool day yesterday. we are starting out rather mild this morning. 54 degrees in san jose, 55, gilroy, 53, san francisco. finally, today, you can leave that umbrella at home. i'll let you know when we are going to hit the 80s. first, it's 4:33. let's find out if there are any problems on the road with mike inouye. >> no big problems. we have our typical road crew. i will warn you about some lanes that you lose. you see the northbound lanes approaching with 101 university shopping center just fine. 1701 out of mountainview, we will mark it on the maps. from shoreline into palo alto, you do lose a couple of lines. the other have cleared over the last half hour. a smooth drive past dumbarton and san mateo. last few days, problems on either bridges. this morning, very clear. we will track them carefully, guys, back to you. a follow-up to a story our

investigative unit just broke. more controversy surrounding jeff rosen, representing lead attorney, jim sibley, voting to file a grievance with the county claiming the d.a. retaliated against sibley for speaking out against altered time sheets. this 46-page grievance comes a month after our investigative unit exposed d.a. rose zen to order time sheets to be altered to give free time off. after two decades at the d.a.'s office and 2 1/2 years at lead attorney, sibley has been demoted. come monday, he will be transferred to palo alto. sibley, who lives in santa cruz, has a 14-year-old son with autism. he says, moving to palo alto means he will spend 3 hours commuting to and from work thand will take time away from his family. he claims the move is to, quote,

make him pay the price for telling the truth. >> the atmosphere within the d.a.'s office over the last two years has been essentially a culture of fear. you go with what the administration is planning or you are going to pay the price for it. >> labor relations will conduct an investigation into why exactly sibley was demoted and transferred. the district attorney says sibley's claim is an unfortunate situation and false allegation. rosen says attorneys are regularly moved within the three office locations at his discretion. >> it is 4:35. we have already seen wildfires break out near los angeles and in the north bay. south bay officials want to make sure we don't see similar problems here. the city of san jose has more than 400 lots and open areas covered in tall, dry weeds. the city has a six-inch rule, meaning no weed can be taller than six inches. anything more is considered a fire hazard.

they contacted them and they gave them ten days to cut down all the weeds. >> if they don't respond in the ten-daytime frame? >> we then can issue a sigh tiges to the property owner for upwards of $1,000. >> per day? >> san jose and santa clara county conduct an investigation of all the empty lots to make sure they are maintained. >> enter the hot seat this morning, boston's police commissioner. a house homeland security committee plans to look at how authorities handle these attacks. the days after that bombing has been controversial. the city's police commissioner says he will defend how his department handles the bombings. the government should have tightened security all around public events and consider more undercover officers and surveillance cameras provided they don't infringe on civil

liberties. investigators use surveillance cameras from a nearby restaurant to ultimately identify the two bombing suspects. during today's hearings, lawmakers are expected to ask if they could have i.d.'d the suspects earlier the man accused of kidnapping three ohio women and holding them captive for ten years is expected to make his first court appearance in less than an hour. ariel castro is expected to make an appearance. he kept the three women chained and locked upstairs. they were allowed outside twice in the last ten years, the women, amanda berry, gina dejesus and michele knight are working with investigators. berry and dejesus are out of the hospital and back with their

families. michele knight is said to be treated but still in the hospital and in good condition transportation officials announcing a proposed fix for the three dozen or so busted bolts on the new stan of the bridge. it is called the saddle option. this will take on the load for faulty rods that were supposed to support it. the cost, up to $10 million. officials say they think the bridge will be finished in time for the labor day opening. that largely depends on new testing being done on the bolts manufactured in 2010. >> i think the key is to have a safe. >> that is the first and foremost priority. let's hope. >> let's check the forecast with meteorologist, christina loren. >> safe to say, it will be a nice day. good morning. laura and jon. thanks for waking up with us on a thursday. temperatures are really mild out there to start. we don't have any 40s to talk about just yet. we are going to drop off even more so as we head through the next few hours.

is going to help you out. we are looking to 880 through fremont. nice, easy drive past the truck scales. we are looking at the traffic flow ons maps through 880, 680, toward fremont. no delays. a little yellow popping up. not a concern. we have northbound 880 approaching 237 coming past the great mall, you are down to one lane. they are doing some paving work that should be wrapping up. a lot of lights through the area. keep it in mind. northbound through 237 from the great mall. the rest of your south bay is all right. you see slowing around stevens creek boulevard. the slowing moving vehicles are causing the censors to trip up. no incidents. the bay bridge toll plaza. a nice, easy drive. that's great news, upper and lower decks both moving at the limit. speaking of the bay bridge, we have another angle of it.

a live look. the warriors actually talking about putting an arena on the san francisco side of the bridge. piers 30 and 32. today, the san francisco planning commission will get an updated proposal for the warriors waterfront arena. among the changes, a reduction in the height of the building, a reduction in the number of parking spaces around the area. so people can actually see out and have a little more living space. >> i like the sound of that. speaking of the warriors, the curse in san antonio is over. they upped the playoff series winning in san antonio for the first time since 1997. letting that huge lead slip away from game one, steph curry and klay thompson, they lead the way. thompson was on fire, a career high 34 points. 29 in the first half. hitting 8 of 9 three-pointers. warriors win it 100-91. they return to the bay area today. they are getting ready for game three at oracle arena tomorrow night. so that will be roaracle arena all over again.

welcome back. good thursday morning. a popular mountain restaurant is closing its doors. the country gourmet is shutting down in ten days. it was originally built in 1966 as the burger barn. the two brothers that ran it and the koflt cost of keeping it op too expensive it could eventually reopen as a different restaurant. the way you pay for cable could soon change in a good way, a very good way. one lawmaker trying to make it so cable channels only give you the ones that you want without paying for the ones that you don't want. i love the sound of this. seema mody is live with details. of course, along with how the futures are trading. seema, good morning. we'll get to the markets

first. markets riding a wave of company forecast and the dow, s&p 500, and the russell 2000 indices are at record highs. we get data out. the dow rising nearly 49 points in yesterday's trade. the nasdaq, 60. here is the top story. senator john mccain is expected to introduce a bill requiring cable and satellite companies to give customers the options of buying individual channels instead of packages. this time around, the a la carte idea is gaining tracks as programming channels have skyrocketed. we well be checking back. >> we want to check the forecast with christina loren. >> we are so close to the weekend now. i'm already thinking about my plans while i'm simultaneously doing the weather. 4:46.

fire. this comes two weeks after the worst tragedy in the history of the global garment manufacturing industry. more than 900 are confirmed dead after eight-story building which held several garment factories collapsed last month. thousands were rescued alive. crews are still searching through all of that rubble for bodies. this week, the bangladesh government reportedly shut down 18 garment factories for safety reasons. noted factory resigner, octavio missoni, has died. he was the fashion designer known for the zigzag pattern, knitwear. the brand made headlines when they partnered with target to release a line of products they sold out in a matter of hours.

they say he died peacefully at his home in italy, 92 years old. lawmakers must adjust some 300 amendments covering border security to work place enforcement. it is expected to put tom 11 million undocumented immigrants on a path to citizenship. south korea's president will be in california. president park gu hey will be in los angeles to have lunch with governor brown and the mayor. she was in town yesterday to talk with president about the tensions in north korea. >> prince harry kicks off his visit with a stop at capitol hill, he will stop by arlington
