heading in towards foster system. that was just an advisory from chp at 6:15 this morning. we don't have a lot of wind going around. we will track it there as well. 4:32 right now. a 12-year-old boy under arrest this morning and a town and community in shock after authorities announced this week the child was likely responsible for the stabbing death of his 8-year-old sister. today. >> grief counselors will be at school where she attended in valley springs. a small town in cal averas county. he told police he saw a man with long gray hair running from the scene. this attack happened the parents were away at a kamp. investigators arrested the 12-year-old boy and expect him to be charged with homicide, have not yet released details on

a motive. lawmakers are raising more questions about the terror attacks on benghazi that killed bay area native, chris stevens last year. they are turning to the talking points written up after the attack on september 11th. leaked white house e-mails reveal the report went through 12 drafts. they show the cias original assessment of who was responsible was revised several times. the white house made the changes as part of a cover-up. white house officials say the cia made the changes. the cia was the agency that made changes to the edits, to the talking points and then produced the talking points. >> to blame the cia is a convenient truth. the real truth is meem were there in tripoli and benghazi knew this was a terrorist attack from the get-go. u.s. ambassador and bay area native, chris stevens, and three other americans were killed in

the attacks. republican legislators are promising more hearings they say will show the white house tried to cover up errors that could have saved american lives. this morning, reports of a new problem on the bay bridge. officials already warning this one could delay the opening of that new span. caltrans has recently discovered 400 or so threaded rods that could be vulnerable to cracking if exposed to rainwater. >> that according to a report in the san francisco chronicle. the rods are meant to protect the bridge during a major earthquake. experts say inspecting them won't be a simple task considering they are in the base of the tower. amy renworth says those inspections can and will happen. >> they are in the tower but they are accessible. it is more challenging to get to them than the other 200 we are going to be testing right now. we can get to them. they are within sleeves within the foundation.

>> they are with a fallout after dozens of boeltsz were to have found cracked after tightened. the agency has come up with a fix but they don't know whether the issue will force them to delay the planned labor day opening for the brand new span. >> 4:35. following last week's deadly crash, organizers of the america's cup say anything is possible, including a complete cancellation. a formal meeting, rather, will be held tomorrow in san francisco with all four teams in the competition. they will review the evidence after thursday's deadly capsize of an american cup's cat ama ran and recommend changes if necessary. it is not likely they could even decide to completely cancel the race. crew members aboard the "artemis" say the vessel went airborne, broken to pieces and folded into itself like a, quote, taco shell. andrew simpson was killed. his funeral tomorrow in england

a bay area officer killed in the line of duty being honored today in washington, d.c. the national law enforcement officers memorial remembers the 321 peace officers that died last year. one of them, 37-year-old chp officer, kenyon young strom, from fairfield. the seven-year veteran was shot and killed during a traffic stop along interstate 880 in alamo, last september. his name has been added to one of the two 304-foot long marble walls that are now part of that memorial. the names are more than 19,000 officers that have been killed in the line of duty are etched on those walls cleanup in the south bay could mean trouble for drivers this morning. crews will be painting over a number of areas including highway 101 at 13th street. they will be closing lanes for the cleanup that runs through wednesday. caltrans has already starting notifying drivers about the closures, city of san jose, caltrans and union pacific roadway will share the cost of the cleanup. stunning video from lake county where more than two dozen

homes are at risk of being swallowed up this morning. those homes are in the town of lakeport, about 100 miles north of san francisco. a total of eight homes in the lakeside heights housing development have already been abandoned because they literally began to crumble as the earth literally began sinking. residents in those homes out there are being warned they could have to evacuate at any moment. things are so bad, the u.s. postal service will not deliver mail to this area. homeowners have asked governor jerry brown to declare an emergency to get funding to determine the cause of that ground collapse. so we have homeowners that have their house totally ruined. no homeowner's insurance. it is excluded from landslide. now, the county may be abating those homes and sending a bill to those homeowners. >> officials think the groundwater just has bubbled up to the surface. that is why the earth is

literally sinking. no one knows why that water suddenly appeared in an area that normally faces groundwater shortages. >> tough go. we want to check our forecast with meteorologist, christina loren. monday morning, my dear. >> make sure you are ready for it as we head out the front door this morning. you will encounter thick, low clouds out there. temperatures are cool to start. not that bad. we have a couple upper 40s popping up in places like santa rosa. looking rather chilly in gilroy at 51 to start the day. meanwhile, mid-50s around the inner bay looking really good for today. if you like the warmer weather, we are going to hold on to it for one more day before things really start to change. we want to talk about your futurecast off the clock for you. right at 8:00 a.m. you can see mostly cloudy conditions. mostly clear to start the day by mid-morning. most of bait area getting sunshine. we stop the clock at noon. temperatures today are going to be warm but this is the warmest day of the week.

easy flow down the eastshore freeway. coming out in towards san pablo, reports of a disabled vehicle up there. there may be a crash. i'm still waiting for an update. not a lot of slowing westbound but eastbound, we did see some. a quick look at oakland. traffic for the east bay. a representative past the coliseum. we will talk about that coming up. we'll talk about the dumbarton starting at 9:30 this morning. drivers can expect delays of the toll plaza as workers install a new automated toll collection system. a single lane will be closed each day from 9:30 until 6:00 a.m. the next day. that will happen from now through may 22nd. toll lane number six will be closed today. well, first off, that big win, the warriors headed down to san antonio this morning all tied up in their playoff series with the spurs. two wins a piece.

welcome back. city of palo alto will discuss the historic downtown post office, one of the many u.s. poefs poe postal services it is putting up for sale. the city wants to use it as an office space for the planning and community involvement department. it was reportedly the first building in the country to be build specifically as a post office since 1932. new york state reaching out to the bay area tech companies looking for help trying to stop smart phone thefts. new york state attorney general will announce he has sent letters to apple, google, microsoft and samsung. those letters call on each of the companies to try and help

so. this one is being called an act of street violence, not an act of terror. that's what the fbi is saying this morning about a shooting during a mother's day parade down in new orleans that injures 19 people, including two children. several of those people were seriously hurt. but, the good news is, they are all expected to survive. officers now looking for three suspects and new orleans mayor says they need the community's help to try and find them. >> this is one of the really crazy, unnatural things about what these young men are doing in the city of new orleans. the only way to do it is everybody find out who they are and stop them from doing it. as a community, to say we are not tolerating this anymore. >> we can tell you all those victims were taking part in a second line parade when they were shot down in new orleans. the second line parade is a procession of people marching behind a brass band, something along the lines of a moving block party. >> 4:49 this morning. the future of the ohio home where three women were allegedly held captive for a decade is

being debatd. cleveland city officials want to preserve the house as evidence until the trial of their suspected abductor, 52-year-old ariel castro, is over. the neighbors want the property torn down immediately. a local councilman says there have been plenty of threats to burn the home down. the home has been boarded up and a 10-foot metal fence installed around the perimeter o.j. simpson back around the headlines heading to trial in los angeles. he was convicted in 2008 of leading the robberies of two sports memorabilia dealers in las vegas. he claims he thought the items were personal belongings stolen from him after his murder trial in the 1990 for killing of his ex-wife. he also says his lawyer knew about the plans to retrieve the items and should have testified as a witness in the robbery trial. simpson is currently serving 9-33 years in prison.

dakota is on the brink of being the second state to allow same-sex marriage. government says he will sign it into line. last week, the house passed the bill with a vote of 75-59. earlier this month, rhode island and delaware legalized same-sex marriage. the number of states without a ban is 11. we will tell you about the hollywood a-lister coming up and returning to his roots. the plate southern californians could be adding to their plate. the eastshore freeway. a smooth drive but i was tracking a crash along this route. we'll give you that update coming up.

palo alto native and actor, james franco, expected back in the bay area. franco and his mother scheduled to appear at kepler books in menlo park to promote his brand new book, a california childhood. the book talks about growing up in palo alto where he lived until he was 18. it looks at the dichotomy between palo alto and east palo alto which he says made a lasting impression on him and his activism. tonight's appearance is set for 7:00. legendary tv news

personality, barbara walters, will announce her retirement today. she is expected to say she will retire next year. the 83-year-old has spent 37 years at abc news joining the network in 1976 as the first female co-anchor of an evening news program. before that, she spent 15 years at nbc news where she co-hosted the "today" show. until she retires, walters will appear on news specials and on the talk show "the view," the show she created in 1997 seth meyers is poised to take over as the new host of late night next year. he has been named the successor to jimmy fallon, host of "the tonight show" next year. >> that is a great call. seth meyers, big-time, perfect tag team and jimmy fallon, fun to watch. our lead guy, the comedy, the traffic, mike inouye. >> i would like to announce that i have taken the role.

i am not the head writer. let's go to the maps. the bay bridge. there it is. folks in the control room know how to do that. the smooth drive across the bay getting into the city. a beautiful flow of traffic across the upper deck. overnight construction crews blocking two lanes. that's the most. no real slowing there. the map shows you a nice, easy drive around the maze. the earlier issue we followed, clear from the roadway, no crash and no lanes blocked. smooth drive. a little slowing out of antioch. typical, westbound highway 4 flow there. san jose, the south bay, no problems. a light flow there. california drivers may soon be able to give their cars that vintage look all over again. the dmv considering bringing back those old yellow black and blue plate designs if enough people are interested. the old look plates which are originally used from the 1950s to the 1980s available starting in two years. here is the deal. at least 7500 drivers have to
