just about 4:31. very good morning. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. we start with breaking news out of east palo alto. three people shot overnight, including a 6-year-old boy that was killed. two other victims being treated for nonlife threatening injuries. it happened near fordham avenue. they say the victims were shot inside a vehicle. christie smith is on her way to the scene. she will bring us a live report with the latest developments once she gets there. a very busy morning to talk about. it is 4:31 right now. let's check in with christina loren. good morning. happy monday. it is going to be a warm start to the workweek and the temperatures are going to quickly drop off. this morning, pretty mild in san jose. 57 versus 49. it depends on where you are waking up this morning.

major changes just ahead. in th department between today and tomorrow. first, we will check your drive wi with mike. you notice the construction crew and the head lights passing by. you see the light volume of traffic. a little dip in the speed. a couple of miles per hour for caution's sake. also, heading over the bay bridge, no problems as far as the flow. you have your road crews there. typical overnight. the "s" curve, lower the speeds. we'll send it back to you. happening now, crews mopping up following a brush fire in the oakland hills. that fire started about 2:00 this morning near skyline boulevard and redwood road in oakland. firefighters say the flames reach nearby trees but were able to keep them away from spreading any further. no buildings were damaged and no one was hurt. we are getting our first

look at the concord woman accused of setting off a brush fire in martinez that burneded close to 20 homes. 48-year-old julie tenpenny is in jail. she is charged with arson and being under the influence of a controlled substance. neighbors called police when they saw a woman on a hill trying to set the dry brush on fire. when officers arrived, they confronted ten spenny. that's when she became combative and struggled with an officer. >> it makes you sick to your stomach for someone to do that. it's very disturbing, very sad, very disturbing the officer hurt, one of his legs during this struggle. he is expected to be okay. the fire burned about 15 acres right up to the property line of those homes. firefighters were able to fight the flames back at this hour and motive is unclear. it is 4:33. there is a new report of another significant problem on the bay bridge. this time, corrosion. sacramento is reporting back in

2006, caltrans discovered steel tendons in the skyway section of the bridge were exposed to rain walter and were starting to corrode. at the time, caltrans determined there was no problem. however, the sacramento bridge claims they miscalculated the extent of the corrosion and several experts are questioning the durability of the span, specially in the event of a major earthquake. the news does not sit well with bay area drivers. >> when it is finished, i will probably avoid it and let a couple thousand people get a test run first. >> caltrans maintains the bridge is safe and is reacting to the latest concerns, telling the paper, corrosion has been an issue since the first steel bridge that was built and what we've learned from this particular challenge six years ago is that we are never going to be done fighting the battle against corrosion in the san francisco bay. a 27-year-old coach at walnut creek's north gate high school will be in court this

morning charged with having sex with a student. christopher yang was an assistant coach for the girl's junior varsity water polo team. it is not clear if the alleged victim was on the team. yang will be arraigned on nine counts offer felony, sexual activity with a minor. if convicted, he could face up to eight years in prison. also in court today, an accused serial car thief wanted on charges in at least six bay area counties. james rolston, who uses the name dimitri storm has pleaded guilty to nine charges of burglary. he was arrested in berkeley earlier this month. san jose coach facing felony charges for assaulting the coach of the jacksonville sharks. the incident happened saturday night after san jose's indoor arena football team defeated the sharks in florida. this is a picture of 42-year-old cedrick walker from the team's website. hopefully, we will see it here

eventually. the defensive coordinator pushed the jacksonville coach against the wall several times. 68-year-old tim johnson was released from the hospital yesterday. it started with racial slurs from a shark's front office official. walker was booked on charges of battery on a person 65 or older. he is now out on bail. a rough weekend as parts of the midwest are picking up the pieces following a searies of storms and tornadoes. we will show you the damage left behind. golf ball size hail started crashing down yesterday. the hail shattering windows, dented cars, knocked off the side mirror of some cars. in oklahoma, one person killed and several others injured when a tornado ripped through a mobile home park in oklahoma city. the severe weather, stretching from texas to minnesota. weather could be on the way. >> reporter: violent weather ripped across much of the midwest over the weekend, storms lighting up the radar spawning dozens of tornadoes. the most vicious hit sunday was in shawnee, oklahoma, where twitters splintered this neighborhood. a trail of debris across several states. homes and businesses ripped apart. >> no sooner had we gotten in the basement than we saw heavy wind and heavy rain and we saw we sustained damage. >> reporter: two 18-wheelers outside of oklahoma city, were pushed on their side. one left dangling along the railing of an overpass. >> the dust flying around was pretty big. i thought they would be smaller. this is pretty big.

and tomorrow. we keep on dropping off into wednesday and thursday. that natural a.c. kicks back on. we could pocket a little bit of the pg&e money this week. looking good. we are going to warm up as we get into the weekend. big weekend. right around the corner, 4:47 right now. this rng month, the death of two fbi agents during a training exercise are under investigation. the accident happened aboard a military sea lift command ship off the coast of virginia beach on friday. both agents were members of the fbi critical incident response group, which is part of the hostage rescue team. after the incident, the agents were transported to a hospital. the cause of the agents death has not been released sheriff deputies in sa sacramento county, on the lookout for people who gunned down a ten-year-old girl who was sitting watching tv with her parents. they were firing at least a dozen shots through the front door and the window there. that little girl and her parents were both hit. the girl sadly died at the

hospital. her parents are still there being treated. her 14-year-old brother was in another room at the time. he was fortunately not hurt. police seem to think this shooting is gang-related but believe it is another family member not living at that home that has ties to the gang. it is 4:48. an east bay lawmaker hoping a new bill will draw attention to a deadly-use sports injury. the bill set to be introduced by nancy skinner establishes the first week of june at the comotile korus week. it is one of the leading causes of deaths for young athletes that results from a blow to the chest causing cardiac survival. it is a result of greater awareness and increased cpr and a use of chest protectors an investigation into the nevada psychiatric hospital.

the los angeles city attorney right now investigating the rawson neil psychiatric hospital in las vegas. they are accused of dumping more than 1500 patients. many of them in california. san francisco city attorney and the federal government, right now, looking into those allegations. the bee reports attorneys from around the state, including san francisco along with alameda and santa clara counties are pushing for a meeting with the nevada attorney general's office to look at the hospital's discharge practices. >> this morning, the senate judiciary committee continues hearing on a sweeping immigration reform plan. there are more than 300 amendments being considered for the bill. the measure would help secure the border and allow tens of thousands of foreign workers into the country. it would also create a path to eventual citizenship for the 11 million people living in the u.s. illegally. finally, ready for takeoff. the boeing 787 dreamliner

flights resuming today for the first time since safety concerns grounded the entire fleet in january. batteries aboard the 787s failed in two separate incidents causing a battery fire in boston and an emergency landing in japan. the cause of the failures unclear at this point. since then, boeing has made improvements to the battery system. we have to wait until june for the first streamliner to resume its nonstop service from san jose international airport over to tokyo. it is 4:50. someone in the south bay won more than $2 million. we are going to show you where the winning powerball ticket was purchased coming up next. also, caught on camera. passengers forced to rush off of a plane. it's landing gear actually caught fire. you have to see this we are looking over here. you could see this too. this is palo alto.

welcome back. want to take you to dallas, texas, an ongoing scene. not a lot of information on this fire. you can see the firefighters there. what we can tell you is, this one, a big deal, a six-alarm fire at an apartment complex or condo complex. the situation, possible deadly. still unclear at this point.
