it's 4:30 on the nose. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. good morning, christina. >> good morning. what a difference a day makes. temperature this is morning running 5 to 15 degrees cooler than just 24 hougs. widespread 40s. 150 on the map. throughout the day it will be another cool day. then we have major changes for memorial day weekend. want to take you through the numbers coming up. first a check of your drive with mike. >> the winds brought in cooler weather. overnight chp said to watch it on the bay area bridges. i looked at the emeriville camera. you can see the wind now is moving the camera around. you also see the smooth moving lights across the span. overnight road work taking you down as you head toward the incline. over here toward 880.

construction crews there northbound from 16th up toward downtown oakland and southbound side as you approach high street. you see a couple of flashing lights there. no problem because of the light volume of traffic. back to you. >> in oklahoma, rescue workers are out making sure they have not missed any of the tornado victims. a fire chief in the hardest hit city, he says he's confident at this point there are no more bodies or survivors stuck in the rubble. we hope so and pray. jay gray is in moore with the community that's still trying to comprehend all the devastation. >> good morning. the destruction you see behind me is the kind left behind after an ef5 tornado that ripped through the area scattering lives. now survivors are left to pick up the pieces here. as the cleanup continues, so does the shock and heartache here. >> i think i'm numb. i really think i'm emotionally

numb. >> reporter: overwhelmed by what's seemingly an endless path of destruction. >> a bomb going off doesn't do it justice because of the damage. >> reporter: 17 miles of twisted metal and splintered wood from a storm forecasters say was one of the strongest on record -- an ef5 with winds topping 200 miles an hour. >> this was the storm of storms. >> reporter: now as this community struggles to come back, sorting through debris and salvaging what they can, many are looking for answers underneath all the rubble. >> those kids at plaza tower, i own a home child care. >> we are seeing images of the cha chaos. seven young children were killed and dozens injured. maria rodriguez was there that

day. >> all the kids were down. they were just trying to protect themselves. >> she thought about staying but decided at the last minute she and her kids should leave. >> i thought it was safe. something told me, you have to get them out. >> they are survivors now. still stunned by what's happened to their community. >> sounds cliche, but speechless. >> the words will have to wait anyway for now. the cleanup and recovery will take years. jay gray, nbc news, moore, oklahoma. >> a man who lives close to moore, oklahoma was in the bay area when the tornado struck. last night he flew out for oklahoma city, uncertain of what he would feel when he arrived home.

he knows it will never be the home he left last week. he's seen pictures of the city of moore. there are pictures of the town where he went to elementary school and his friends had homes. there are stories amid all the ruin far worse than the home. >> i do know a friend of a friend who lost, you know -- she passed away with her baby. they didn't make it out. >> despite the size of the tornado this could have been far worse. our coverage continue into the 5:00 hour. jody hernandez is there talking to survivors of the disaster. she'll join us with a live report coming up. >> san jose continues defending measure be. council members voted to increase the measure and legal

funding by $900,000. under that measure the city could save as much as $20 million. the council voted to raise the tax on marijuana collectives. starting in july, pot clubs in san jose will pay a 10% tax from the 7% rate that's been in place since 2011. san mateo county planning to hire 25 people to help process obamacare applications. the new employees will deal with the individual and businesses that apply. enrollment for the applications will be accepted starting october 1. the health plan goes into effect january 1 of next year. the county says the employees will not be permanent and the federal government will pay about half of the more than $3 million used for employee salaries. >> it's 4:36. a special meeting will be held to discuss how to better protect students from abuse in the classroom. the meeting is in response to

accusations of abuse of special needs children in two school districts. the lawsuits also claim the district did not immediately tell authorities about the alleged abuse. school district advisory committee on special education is hosting tonight's event at 7:00 at black diamond middle school on sterling hill drive in antioch. >> let's check in with meteorologist christina loren looking ahead to the week and the weekend. i like to look far ahead. >> three-day weekend. that ought to give you inspiration. it will be a cooler than average memorial day. that's what i can tell you right off the bat. nice enough to where you can get out there, hit the beach comfortably. san jose, gilroy. we have low 50s this morning. winds relaxed slightly overnight. they are rather strong in places like san to rosa.

nothing visible on the earlier shot. a smooth drive across the dunnbarton bridge. san mateo bridge has slowing. you shouldn't be going 65 across bridges. nothing sustained in terms of wind. a live shot from fremont southbound. tesla, easily light drive toward mission into the south bay. you are losing lanes around 237 in the southbound direction. overnight crews are starting to clear. back to you. >> it's 4:39. this morning san jose state can move forward with renovating spartan stadium. the board of trustees approved the project which calls for the construction of the vermeel walsh athletic complex. it will house new locker rooms, coach offices, a hall of fame and athletic training facilities. the stadium will receive a new

entry plaza, ticket windows and concession stand. the project is privately funded. work is expected in time for the 2015 football season. >> less than 24 hours after landing super bowl 50 work will start this morning as the bay area gets ready for the monumental event. aside from the game held, a lot of things will be happening all over. the interactive fan exhibit is called the nfl experience. that will be in san francisco. all sorts of cool things. fans will love that. the big game will be at the levi stadium in santa clara. the bid committee working to improve bay area transportation which is always key when you have a game of such magnitude. >> all coming together now. >> endless parties, too. it's a massive bash. >> no doubt the committees are forming already. teens are leaving facebook and heading to twitter. why they say the company is

new this morning officials say they have identified five suspects in the terror attacks in benghazi, libya. the men are under 24-hour surveillance wanted for questioning in the september attack on the u.s. consulate. the attack killed four americans including u.s. ambassador and bay area native chris stevens. officials say the white house already has enough proof to seize the five men aster error suspects but they are waiting for investigators to have enough evidence to try them in a u.s. civilian courtroom. >> a house panel expected to vote on changes to military law to try to cut down on the growing number of sexual assaults in the armed forces. among the charges, harsher penalties for service members found guilty of sexual offenses. the number of sexual assaults in the military continues to rise to try to curb the problem. both democrats and republicans support the new regulations. >> it's 4:44.

the woman in charge of the irs's cincinnati office is expected to testify in washington today. lois lerne e r's attorney said she'll plead the 5th refusing to answer questions about why her group targeted conservative groups for extra scrutiny. she was accused of lying when she told congress last year the irs didn't change the criteria for tax exempt groups. yesterday irs commissioner douglas schulman took responsibility for the scandal but stopped short of saying whether he played a role in it. >> when it comes to social media, teenagers all over the country are taking their hearts and giving love to one bay area company and taking it to another one. seem gla mody is live with details on that and a look at how futures are trading this morning. seema, good morning. >> we'll start with the markets. futures flat after stocks turned early losses into late gains. yesterday the 189th straight

gain on a tuesday while the s&p and nasdaq were up for a nice tuesday. we have existing home sales. fed chairman ben bernanke talked about the economy on capitol hill. the nasdaq adding five. here's a story. the kids love twitter but facebook, not so much. the new survey by the pugh ree search center shows waning enthusiasm by teens for facebook. the reason, there are too many adults on the site including mom and dad. the study says 24% of online teens use the miracle ro blogging service but haven't totally abandoned facebook. 94% have a profile but that's flat from the previous year. back to you. >> thank you very much. >> all right. want to check the forecast now with christina loren. the cooling trend will continue. >> it will be nice. i don't know if you enjoyed it yesterday. it was beautiful. we'll hold on. we'll see the conditions

last week's fire that destroyed a crematorium mixed or washed away the remains of 15 people. initially they said no ree mains were lost. one family tells the san mateo times their great grandmother's ashes and those of 15 others. the cemetery has not commented on the latest report. >> friends and family of an oakland man who disappeared at ocean beach say they will continue searching this morning after spend eing all day yesterday looking. friends say there is no trace of 27-year-old bo rasmussen. he left his friends to go to the beach. a life guard tells the krn kl it's not uncommon for runners to go for a swim after the race. it can be dangerous. at least seven people had to be

rescued from the waves on sunday. >> 4:49. it was all a hoax. a woman who said she was robbed and attacked by two men who tried to kidnap her baby is behind bars accused of filing a false report. earlier this month 23-year-old jennifer flores said two men pushed her to the ground near santa rita road in pleasanton while she was pushing her baby in a stroller. she claimed the man took her purse and tried to take the stroller with her son inside. surveillance from a nearby domino's pizza showed flores left her purse at the restaurant and after being questioned she finally admitted the whole story was a lie. >> it's 4:50 now. rooeping the rewards. we have an update on that pa's efforts to age wine at the bottom of the ocean. check it out. >> and a dream come true for one sharks fan. the vip treatment given to the

day on a wednesday midweek. it is 4:53. the food network star guy fieri cruising through the south bay tonight to meet fans and sign copies of his book "the funky finds in flavortown." sounds like a song from the '70s. it is the third book in his triple-d series. he'll be at johnny garlic's on monterrey road. the book signing starts at 7:30. fans encouraged to get there an hour early to catch all the spiky, funky hair. >> no doubt. the san jose sharks headed back to l.a. last night the sharks win boosted the spirit of one die hard fan battling brain cancer. nick gallagher just started hospice care and his wish was to meet his favorite players and ride the zamboni. the sharks in the dream foundation made his wish come
