arrest accused of killing a family of four in the czech republic. "today in the bay's" christie smith joins us live with new details about the international manhunt that led to ta overnight arrest. good morning. good morning to you. a pilot and a flight crew out of vienna got some really startling news overnight that a multiple murder suspect was on board their flight back to the united states. a short time later, investigators arrested kevin dahlgren in washington, d.c. czech police say he fled to the u.s. and they had to issue an international warrant for his arrest. police released his photo and a facebook page with the same pictures. he ways taken into custody at dulles airport. the neighbors near prague say he had only been visiting for a few weeks and identified the victims as a married couple and their sons. firefighters came for an initial call of a house fire and instead found the victims inside. they didn't give details on a motive but said that various

weapons were used but not a gun. now, a local ukulele band told the "associated press" that two of its members were among those victims. dahlgren's facebook page has a direct link to that band. one neighbor says he had met him recently. he seemed absolutely fine. apparently, he told him that he didn't like the western world. america was too fast and, in kt fa, he liked the placid people in europe. >> reporting live in palo alto, christie smith, "today in the bay." new video of an overnight rescue to pull someone out of an overturned vehicle on highway 1 in santa cruz county. the chp tells us the vehicle overturned into the center divide in a construction zone and landed in between two pylons. the victim wound up trapped underneath the car. it is unclear what type of injuries this person has or what their condition is today. traffic was brought to a stop during the rescue but traffic is now back to normal this morning. also new this morning,

cleanup is wrapping up at a busy south bay intersection right now. it is the scene of a horrific crash overnight. an suv, if you can even make it out in these pictures, slammed into a light pole near the intersection of aborn road and rubie avenue in san jose. that's up in the evergreen hills. they had to cut the suv to get a woman out. we are still working to find out if alcohol played a role in the crash. no word on the victim's condition. it is 6:03. more than 40 aftershocks continued to be felt in greenville north of sacramento. that's where a major earthquake hit last night just before 9:00. this morning, we have new pictures and video of that earthquake which some say was felt as far south as right here in the bay area. bob redell joins us live in the usgs in menlo park with new pictures and video from overnight. good morning. good morning to you, marla.

seismologists tell us how interesting it is that so many people did feel this earthquake so far south. there were people throughout the bay area that reported feeling this 5.7 quake last night. that's note worthy, because its epicenter was in túgreenville, plum me plumes county. dozens of aftershocks are rallying that part of the state. the grocery store in greenville put this video up on its facebook page showing items falling from the shelves when the quake hit. you can see lights starting to flicker. one man in greenville posted this youtube video showing a crack that formed after the big quake struck. he also shared video of water leaping out of his pool during all that shaking. our sister station says that some people at a celebration for the sacramento kings felt the shaking but weren't sure what it was at first. >> i didn't feel anything. i think i was too close to the speakers, feeling the vibration there. i didn't feel anything. >> what about you?

>> i didn't know about it until you told me about it. i did kind of feel something a little. i thought it was the crowd. so far, there were no reports of any serious damage. one injury in sacramento apparently a woman fell down the stairs when the quake hit. reporting live at the usgs in menlo park, bob redell, "today in the bay." 6:05. the past hour, police in washington state confirmed that nbc bay area that an oversized truck is to blame for yesterday's bridge collapse along interstate 5 just north of seattle. authorities say it is a miracle no one was killed when this section came crashing down in mt. vernon around 7:00 last night. take a look at these pictures, amazing. rescue crews pulled three from these chilly waters. they are recovering in the hospital today. an oversized big rig hit part of the bridge before the collapse. the bridge is a main thoroughfare from mt. vernon, an

dulles airport in virginia. three people have been hospitalized after an overnight crash in san jose. two vehicles collided near abor and ruby sending an suv slamming into a light pole. one woman was trapped and had to be cut out of the car. the interstate 5 bridge collapse was caused been an oversized truck. chief john batise told an overnight news conference that the truck hit an overhead span. the truck made it safely off the idge and the driver remained at the scene and said to have cooperated with investigations. people are rescued and they are recovering. 6:13 right now. a san francisco baggage handler has a date with a judge after he was arrested.

"the washington post" said she was asked to resign by the new head of the irs. she refused and has been placed on suspension. a federal judge did something unexpected thursday. she said it was likely apple would lose a court case that hasn't even started. apple is accused of price fixing ebooks. they got a lot more expensive after the ipads came along. there are e-mails from steve jobs proposing price fixing. the judge says the feds are

that is a sure sign that we are going to see less choppy conditions on the bay for today. let's go ahead and start with your temperatures. it is chilly out there. we are getting close to the 30s in places like napa and santa rosa. you want a light jacket or a coat to start the day. today's highs are going to be very, very comfortable. 46, san jose. 40, down in gilroy. winds have relaxed. still going to call it breezy for today. you want to keep that in mind. when it comes to the rain we are expecting, i said rain, over the course of your holiday weekend, i do think most of the bay area is going to make the outdoor plans. we stopped the clock at 10:00 a.m. everybody across the bay area can get outdoors without having to dodge showers at that point. we stopped it at 3:00 p.m. at santa rosa, marin county, santa rosa county, you want to make the indoor plans starting at 3:00. all that moisture presses to the south between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 pp. if you are looking for sunshine, you live in the north bay shall the city by the bay, head to the south bay.

head to monterrey. it is going to be really nice down there as we head throughout the weekend as well. tuesday, we have even more rain on the way. so you have to head to the beach if that's what your thing is. your family does it every year. i would say, hit santa cruz. that's going to be the most comfortable place to go. a little bit of fog out there. as we head throughout the next couple of days, we are going to keep rain in the forecast until wednesday. today is going to be one of the warmest of the next five. 76 in gilroy. 72 santa teresa. 61 degrees in san francisco. there it is, seven-day outlook. the system clears of here. temperatures cool. then, we start to see that big ridge of high pressure, the pacific ridge that keeps us warm in the summer months, builds in quickly. we are going to get up to close to 80 degrees between wednesday and thursday next week. lelts check that drive. being a friday before a three-day weekend, we are expecting an even lighter flow of traffic. we are seeing it in san jose.

airport. overnight, both runways of the london airport were closed because a flight to norway had to make an emergency landing. no be on board was hurt. it did set off a number of delays and caught up in all that, the two british airways flights to sfo. we checked with flightaware.com. both flights are running an hour behind schedule. japan's all nippon airways resumes boeing 787 dreamliner flights this sunday after ÷ it is one of five commercial flights they are running this month. the jet will be back at san jose airport june 1st when regular service begins. united airlines resumed its use of the airports on monday. the planes were grounded for smoldering batteries. the assembly appropriations committee votes on a new bill today requiring manufacturers to keep the most common plastic junk out of state waterways. the legislation aims to reduce plastic pollution on california's coastline by 95% in

barbecues this memorial day weekend, there will be more cleanup. and more heartache. thursday, mourners buried the first of seven students, 9-year-old antonio kandelaria. killed at plaza towers elementary school. for those who survived, gratitude for the teachers and staff that put themselves at risk protecting children. >> i am never going to have any thing, any words to repay her for what she did. she threw herself on my daughter to protect her. >> students from plaza towers as well as the second damaged school, briarwood elementary, gathered thursday for a final assembly. a chance at closure. >> it makes me glad to see my friends and that they are alive. i am alive and that i am okay. president obama is scheduled to visit the ravaged community sunday. he plans to tour the 17-mile path of destroyed homes and

businesses. and meet with the first responders who have provided everything from muscle to food for shell-shocked survivors. heavy rain and thunderstorms continue to slow cleanup efforts with more bad weather expected today. it will take months of hard and emotional work. more construction crews clearing out the debris. this is a car that landed on top of a credit union. they estimate it will take about a week to get all of this metal and rubble out of the way. now, meanwhile, new estimates put the number of homes destroyed in the tornado at about 12,000.

a follow-up to a brutal attack in london. terror analysts say they are seeing an increase in chatter on extremist sites. sources tell the "associated press" london is adding 1200 police officers to deal with potential troubled spots. new this morning, a powerful 8.3 magnitude earthquake rocked the far east coast of russia. the quake was centered in the sea of okhutz. trimmers lasted for about five minutes after the quake and were felt 4500 miles away in moscow. russian news agencies said many people were seen running from buildings and many schools had to be evacuated as well. the tsunami was issued for surrounding issues and lifted a short time later.

that's awesome. we'll send it back to you. >> this next story, not too awesome. new video in our newsroom of a bizarre crash. police say a driver plowed into several parked cars early this morning near downtown have the officers aren't telling us much. a witness telling us a driver hit a few cars and ended up on top of another car. they had to push it off before toei towing them all away. the driver was taken to the hospital. there is no word on this person's condition. 6:51. new video of an overnight rescue from an overturned vehicle on highway 1 near socal in santa cruz county. they tell us the vehicle overturned into the center divide into a construction zone. it landed in between two pilings. the victim wound up trapped underneath the car. it is unclear what type of injuries that person has or what

their condition is today. traffic was brought to a stop during that rescue. it is back to normal now this morning. new this morning, the intersection of aborn road and rubie avenue in san jose's evergreen neighborhood is open again after an overnight car crash. the car slammed into a light pole sending three people to the hospital. firefighters had to cut into the car to get one of the passengers out. we have a call into police to find out if alcohol played a role. there is no word on the victim's condition dozens of aftershocks are being felt following last night's 5.7 quake north of greenville. the shake was so strong. it was felt by some here in the bay area. bob redell live at the u.s. geological survey in menlo park with new video from overnight. good morning to you. dozens of aftershocks since last night's 5.7 in the northern part of northern california. a major 5.7 earthquake that was

centered in plumes county in greenville. you get a pretty good sense of what that quake looked like. this grocery store put the video on the page showing items falling from shelves. you can see the light starting to flicker. one man posted this youtube video showing a crack in his wall that formed after the big quake struck. you can also see he shared a video of water leaking out of his pool after the shaking. people reported that they felt this 5.7 quake. the scientists found that interesting, that it was felt so far south considering its epicenter as i mentioned was in greenville, in plumes county, more than 100 miles northeast of sacramento. >> what's interesting, it is very flat. everybody knows that. those kind of rocks, flat,

deposited rocks that are shut down amplify ground motions. >> reporter: we do know one woman in sacramento was injured, reportedly down the stairs when the quake hit. bob redell, "today in the bay." 6:53. in the past two hours, washington state police say they now know what caused a bridge along interstate to crash into the river below. >> jake whitenburg is live in mt. vernon with a look at the collapsed bridge. >> reporter: this is going to be a major issue. many are saying it is a miracle this wasn't worse. look at the ground where the ground meets the river and move your eyes up the river and you can see two vehicles, a truck there on the left that was carrying two people from oak harbor. that truck still partially submerged. the female is still in the

hospital. both are expected to be okay. the roof is from the frigid cold water. a man was on the roof for a long time before rescuers could reach him. he is also okay this morning. they are saying this morning, state patrol says a truck driver is likely to blame here. his oversized rig clipped a steel beam that has risen above interstate 5. the bridge wobbled momentarily and collapsed straight into the water here sending those vehicles plunging into the water. they double and triple check that no vehicles were left under the water. they want to make sure they ott everybody they need here. they are preserving the scene on purpose. there is not much activity so far this morning. federal investigators will be here as well from the ntsb. they want to find out what happened as well. 70,000 to 90,000 vehicles use this major arterial between canada and seattle, not only for folks getting out of the weekend
