we've got rain on the way. we'll time that system out only to be followed by a rapid swarm of triple digit heat. we'll sort it out for you in your forecast. let's take a live look outside in fact at this monday morning, memorial day. overlooking san francisco. it is may 27, this is "today in the bay". good morning to you. it is 5:30. i'm marla tellez. >> i'm lauracannon. >> just after 10:00 last night a man was killed near monterey road. investigators say the man was shot at least twice. he was pronounced dead at scene. police have not released a motive. his death marks the city's 19th

homicide of the year. and two hours earlier, two people were killed in the east hend near a kohl's department store. a neighbor said her son was friends with one of the victims she identified as a 15-year-old boy. >> he was a really nice i do. he hangs out with my son every day and they go places and talk to girls all the time on the phone. >> i believe there are witnesses. whether they come forward or not, i don't know. hopefully someone out there saw it and can identify this person. >> police have not confirmed the ages of the victims and have not released a motive for the shooting. 5:31, we're learning details with a party bus. a local burlesque star was killed and almost a dozen others were hurt. today in the bay's bob redell is at the hospital with more details on this crash. bob, good morning.

>> reporter: chp tells us the house is recovering, raul padilla is facing arrest in the death of his wife. his wife, sarah klein is a well-known burlesque performer as i mentioned earlier, not only in the bay area, but throughout the world. she went by a stage name sparkly devil. early yesterday morning she was killed when her husband was driving hit the center divider on southbound 101. the car came to rest in a fast lane facing a party bus also traveling south. both vehicles collided killing the 36-year-old star who was from san mateo and as i mentioned, critically injuring her husband recovering here at stanford. >> at this point we believe the driver and passenger had been drinking. we have not arrested them or made them -- or filed any charges. once we find out what his level of intoxication was, then we'll be able to charge them with either felony dui and also

possibly manslaughter. >> there were 18 people on that -- well, we just lost bob redell outside of stanford hospital but we'll follow this story throughout the day. also new this morning at 5:33 we're getting reports that a car crashed into vehicles in redwood city at the intersection of jefferson avenue. two cars had bad rear end side damage. police are not telling us exactly what is going on but they're expected to give us an update later this morning. we'll of course bring the latest information as soon as it comes into our news room. also new this morning in san jose fire crews used the jaws of life to pull two people out of a car. it happened at the intersection of alan rock avenue and north rock road near james leicht high school. investigators say both victims

were trapped in the car. two dozen firefighters were called in to help pull them out. >> what makes this a little more complicated was the fact that the tree actually landed, not only did it hit the vehicle, the vehicle hit the tree. the tree landed on top of the vehicle. >> both victims suffered major injuries but they are expected to survive. investigators have not revealed the cause of that crash. people are back home this morning after a bomb scare used the evacuation of a peninsula neighborhood. it caused evacuation last night. investigators say someone found a pressure cooker outside of a bush outside the doors. the shopping center, and surrounding area were evacuated for three hours until the bomb squad reported the pressure cooker was empty. >> it was the boston marathon tragedy that happened back east, we would like to avoid that here. pressure cookers are obviously

could be used as bombs and we didn't want to take any chances, as far as anyone getting hurt. >> police say the incident should serve as a reminder that people need to be more vigilant, more aware about what they leave around. >> pg&e says dirty power lines are to blame for several fires that triggered a massive power outage. nearly a dozen poles caught fire saturday morning. about 5,000 homes lost power. the fire was caused by a mud-like substance. >>. >> the mud-like substance can conduct electricity. when that happens in some occasions that can lead to what we're seeing today which is, in some cases, pole fires. usually there's enough rain in the springtime to wash those lines clean but the spring has been particularly dry.

pg&e says it works year round to keep the lines clean. >> cities are honoring veterans to serve the country this memorial day. the city's 92nd memorial day ceremony will be held at the mountain view cemetery. across the bay, a commemoration and parade will be held at the presidio at 10:30 and in san jose at 11:00 in oak hill memorial park and 1:00 in east bay veterans will be honored aboard "uss hornet museum." >> the vta will take part in a national moment of remembrance. this afternoon at 3:00 buses and light rail will completely stop service in that one-minute national moment of silence. >> nice tribute. >> absolutely. we're talking about parades, do you think it will rain on

parades? >> i don't think so. i think this will time out later. 3:00 p.m. and beyond especially south of the golden gate bridge you should be a-okay. the good news is, it's moving slowly. right now, the front is from chico to ft. bragg throughout the day. conditions will deteriorate. that is my warning for you on this memorial day. i just want to show you how close those showers are to the coastline of sonoma county, marin county. we have showers on way to the north bay. that's the only place we want to keep in mind that you might want to postpone that barbecue. i stay 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. showers moving to the north bay. here's what we're watching. winds pick up if you live in the higher elevations or near the coastline a lot of people will be headed towards the city. conditions won't be perfect but they won't be that bad. breezes picking up. then 6:00 p.m. showers start to

move in. keep in mind, showers on the way. south of the golden gate bridge i'd say any time between 3:00 to 6:00 you want to keep in mind you've got showers headed our way. and you might want to bing brepg in that barbecue. even if comes near the barbecue it might not be that bad. we only expect a couple hundreds of an inch of precipitation. if you don't like the cold, that will keep the cold air. 70 in san jose, 74 in gilroy. coming up we have a major warm-up headed our way as we get into the coming weekend. that means elevated fire dangers. we talk about what is to come when the northerly dry winds return to the bay and more whiplash, basically, ladies as we go from cool rain to hot, dry weather. that's coming up. back to you right now. >> what if you want to jump in the bay? >> at least 50 degrees in there. that's always dangerous. riskof hypothermia.

good monday morning to you. what a beautiful live look outside. >> there's no one there. >> golden gate bridge. >> you can see a few cars approaching in the distance, you're right, marla. not a lot of traffic to report to you. our traffic reporter has the morning off because we anticipated so many people taking the day off for the three-day holy day weekend. it is memorial day. today america honors those who gave their lives serving our country. president obama will attend a wreath-laying ceremony. tracy potts is live on capitol hill with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. the focus will be on those who gave the lives to honor the sacrifice that they gave. also, here on capitol hill, a lot of folks saw how we move forward and how the obama administration is dealing with the new war on terror. today, america remembers the

loss of brave soldiers who died fighting for freedom. with flags at every grave, this morning president obama heads to arlington cemetery to once again lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknown. looking ahead, america faces new threats, al qaeda dismantled but not destroyed. the president wants to scale back our use of force against terrorists. >> not every collection of thugs that label themselves al qaeda will pose a credible threat to the united states. >> reporter: republicans accuse him of going soft on the enemy. >> the idea we can't have a counter terrorism footprint to respond to the future bin laden's in the world, i think that's dangerous. >> at a time we need resolve the most we're resounding retreat. our enni emies are all over the planet ♪ god bless america". >> reporter: today a time of mourning and celebration. last night's memorial day  concert reminds us of america's

bond in time of war even when that war is changing. also here today there are ceremonies honoring specific groups, world war ii veterans, those who fought and served and died in vietnam and women who fought and served in all of these wars. marla. >> absolutely. okay, tracy. thanks so much. ♪ jesus loves me yes i know ♪ for the bible tells me so children who survived the deadly tornado in moore, oklahoma, sang in a special memorial service honoring the victims. these children were students at briarwood elementary one of the schools damaged in the storms last monday. the governor of oklahoma spoke to the crowd saying the state would come back from this tragedy stronger than ever before. in the meantime. a little further south in texas people picking up the pieces from a flood that killed three

people. thousands returned to their homes in a san antonio neighborhood for the first time since the flood. for some, the devastation was too much. torrential rains caused massive flooding in that area. some homes were buried in as much as four feet of water while some roads were covered up to ten feet of water. firefighters reported more than 230 water rescues over the holy day weekend. a new bridge will be installed next month. we have all of the clean-up crews working at the site of the collapse. so far a trailer has been removed from the river. washington governor jay insley said temporary spans should be installed by mid-june. the bridge is the main thorou thoroughfare from mt. vernon to vancouver, british columbia.

thursday's crash was caused after a truck carriage oversize load hit the framework. the three people all survived. the bridge is considered functionally obsolete meaning the design is outdated. a skydiver was killed after getting tangled in a parachute and plunging into a california backyard. the 62-year-old man was attempting to complicate his maneuver with a group of sky divers, he got tangled and couldn't free himself. he landed in the back of a home and died on the way to the hospital. officials are investigating wetter the parachute was properly backed. the winner of this year's boston marathon will donate his medal to the city. lelisa desisa wanted to honor the victims by donating the first-place medal to the city of

boston. kerry is in ethiopia to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the african union. and in indianapolis, dozens of runners who didn't get to cross the finish line crossed the finish line in indianapolis instead. they were invited to cross the racetrack's iconic finish line. about three dozen runners showed up and ran the track as people cheered them on. >> that's pretty cool to see. >> i had to battle the wind this morning. >> it's strong. we have a front coming in. you know it's the unofficial kickoff of summer. i think it's frinteresting. >> especially if you see the hot weather coming this weekend. >> it will be here quick. we'll take you through significant changes, sharp turns ahead in the weather department. good monday morning to you. how is this for a memorial day

tribute. sunrise over san francisco honoring all of our servicemen out there this morning. we salute you, we thank you for our freedom and this morning, wow, it's just beautiful out there. conditions will deteriorate as we head throughout the day with the system coming in. it's not that gold. san francisco, 54 degrees. and wine country is the only place we're really bull's-eyeing those showers that could interrupt your barbecue plans. we'll get hour to hour. right now it's a nice start to the day and the sooner you get out there the best conditions you have especially north of the golden gate bridge. this is what we're watching for right now. showers starting to push to northern california for us. that system stays to the north about 3:00 p.m. that is the time frame you want to look at when it comes to bringing that barbecue indoors. what i can tell you, great barbecue weather is just around the corner. if you can hold on, it's not going to be that great. hey, the south bay, santa cruz, that's the place to be. winds pick up throughout the day

as the system starts to approach the area by 4:00 p.m. we're talking about showers all the way along the coastline starting to move to the south bay. between 4:00 and 6:00 that's when it's not that great outdoors in the south bay then we'll start to see everything lighten up. and be back here in the morning. maybe some drizzle at the coast. about 5:00 p.m. most clear conditions at the bay area. showers come through, they'll keep our air quality nice. pollen levels also expected to drop off. wind kicks up that pollen, the rain lays it down. 71 degrees for livermore, 70 in san jose. here it is. your seven-day forecast. look at that, up to 96 degrees by saturday. so it's going to get hot around here. that's the day. ladies back you to. >> thanks so much. they say home is where the heart is. that's definitely proved true for the san jose sharks facing

elimination at hp pavilion. it was a must-win for the sharks and they delivered. sharks score the first go of the night and went on to win 2-1. that forces a game seven on the road in l.a. after the game the team talked about what it will take to win on the road. >> we're trying to stay aggressive. we'll do that, we feel like we will take control of the games. we did great to the end and it was a good time for us. >> we saw what we had to do to have success tonight. you have to stick to the same things and not worry we're on the road. it's game seven. it's a toss-up. whoever comes more prepared will get the win. >> game seven is tomorrow night in l.a. at 6:00. neither team lost at home but the sharks are hoping to break that trend. >> at 5:5. sunday was a good day on the baseball diamond for bay area teams. giants closed out the series with the colorado rockies winning 7-3. the pitcher matt cain had a

pretty slow start. but they ended up with ten hits against the rockies. oakland a's meantime swept the rockies this season. the a's beat the as strossastro. today's memorial day starts at 1 a. 45 that will be patriotic and giants, 28-22. robby rogers became the first openly gay male athlete to play in an american professional league. rodgers made his debut with the l.a. galaxy soccer team last night entering the game against seattle. rogers signed with the gax saturday. three months ago he said he was going to retire because of possible repercussions.

his appearance last night grew loud cheers from the crowd of 24,000. the gax went on to beat the sound earps 4-0. it is 5-52. coming up two bay area middle schoolers are expected to shine in the spotlight where they show off their smarts this week. and ditching the ice. an escape attempt for a sea world resident that almost paid off.
