nbc bay area that warehouse was home to a marijuana grow operation. this is at 51st avenue and 12th street in oakland's melrose neighborhood. crews headed out in 20 minutes time. no word on injuries, damage or even a cause. we have a crew headed to the scene and we'll bring you more information and pictures as we get that into our news room. to san mateo, an overnight house fire, we have new video of the scene on view ridge drive earlier this morning off of the edge of laurel wood park. our photographer on the scene spoke with firefighters about 30 minutes ago. they told him the home was being remodeled and the owners were not living there the at time and they said right now it appears the fire started in the backyard in some roofing materials. the home does not appear to be a total loss but there is extensive damage to the roof. bay area investigators are looking for more possible victims of a former high school football coach accused of sex

crimes against children. "today in the bay's" bob redell is live in richmond with more details on this investigation. bob, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, marla. cocoa county sheriff arrested last week a man who used to coach football here at kennedy high school in richmond, his name is barron edwards, he is in jail in martinez on a $2.5 million bail amount charged with three counts of rape and other counts of lewd and lascivious acts on children 15 years of age or younger. the sheriff's office hasn't said whether or not his victims were students at kennedy school. they are putting out word about his arrest because they believe he might have assaulted other children, they're asking anyone with that information to contact investigators. reporting live in richmond, bob redell, "today in the bay".

no major damage but perhaps a few rattled nerves in gilroy. 2.8 magnitude quake hit just after 11:30, six miles east of gilroy. gilroy police dispatchers described it as a small, quick shake. no reports of any damage. 6:03. south bay health officials want parents to be aware of a growing health problem, tuberculosis. they say if you live in the south bay you have a higher chance of catching the deadly disease and any other metropolitan area in the nation. "today in the bay's" damian trujillo joins us live in san jose where the cdc and other official also try to tackle this. >> reporter: yes, the experts will try to tackle the issues here today at the doublefree hotel in san jose. congressman mike honda has been championing this cause for the last four years locally and

globally. if you don't live in the south bay there is cause for a concern if you live in california because california as a state has the highest number of tuberculosis cases in the nation. worldwide tb kills about 1.4 million every year and there is a drug resistant tb that is posing new challenges for the experts. doctors say you have to control tb in other nations because of the increased globalization and so many americans traveling abroad. person who has the disease coughs and because td is spread through the air it is a public safety concern. it is not immune to this deadly disease. >> we have some of the highest rates in the country in silicon valley which i think surprises a lot of people. there is a treatment. there is a cure, and we can move forward. >> reporter: locally the public health director for santa clara county says cases involving his

patients here have become more complicated over the years so it's important to find solutions now to stop this spread. congressman mike honda will be receiving an award for his work on fighting tuberculosis both locally and abroad. i'm damian trujillo, san jose on "today in the bay". a man was hit by a train in san francisco. officials say the man was struck at mission bay drive near the san francisco cal train station just before midnight. he was taken to the hospital but his condition is still not known this morning. the time of the collision, no one else was hurt. drivers along 280 around 9:00 this morning will notice a large plume of smoke but don't worry, firefighters will already be there. the palo alto fire department scheduled two prescribed burns at the arastradero reserve at

his mother who says he was the light that could brighten the darkest of rooms. this morning, friends and family of 21-year-old dylan mitchell will gather will lafayette to remember him. 21-year-old dylan mitchell graduate in 2010 was hit by a garbage truck while riding his bike in san francisco last thursday. he died at the scene. mitchell had just moved to the city to start an internship. >> 6:09. a 6-year-old boy in desperate need of a bone transplant will get a pick me up from a celebrity today. actor and comedian george lopez will visit eduardo grialva in the hospital via skype. in march san jose s.w.a.t. team members visited him to show their support. he is battling leukemia and has been in the hospital for the past couple months while his family and classmates continue to search for a bone marrow match. they urge everyone to get a cheek swab to come registered as the national bone marrow donor

the country in san jose to discuss an alarming rise in tuberculosis rates. a sandra moan teenager audrey banton advanced to the semifinals in maryland. she'll compete this afternoon for a chance to get to the finals. there is a new crisis with solar panels. >> many are defective. bottom line, scott mcgrew, people may be putting junk on their roof. >> at least 20% of the panels some installers are meeting are made with some substandard materials. the newspaper talked with solar city, the largest installer, the company had not seen the problem but the article quotes some installers saying they're no longer going to use chinese made equipment after some panels

right now not too bad and yeah look at this lucky cruise ship that just pulled in. everybody headed into town this weekend, maybe family and friends coming to the bay area we'll get spoiled by the beach. no may gray. we're done for the next few days. live look at san jose, a little hazy. we'll see the air quality suffer as high pressure builds in. right now we're in the good to moderate range across the board for today but that is the case whenever high pressure builds in we don't have moisture to purify our air quality. 51 in san francisco. 48 in sunnyvale and 52 degrees, chilly enough for a coat or light jacket in san jose. high pressure is on its way, packing a lot of energy already and it's going to gain more and more energy as we head into the weekend. temperatures are going to soar from the low 80s in places like livermore into the 90s. as of tomorrow we'll be in the mid to upper 90s for your

saturday so all things into perspective, all things in perspective, temperatures today will be a little bit more mild than where we're headed by saturday downright hot, seeking shade. 92 degrees on sunday, and monday and tuesday temperature also level off. it's still going to be rather warm as we get into next week and mike it's that time of year, the kids are getting out of school. is the drive lightning up a bit? >> it's not quite a fair judgment. we had monday off, some people i did, had monday off, thank you for holding the fort down. it was just me, scott as well, we were goofing off together. looking at the smooth flow and the traffic flow is later but later for the commute this week. that's the trend we see through summer as well so we'll see if the pattern continues. 101 typical build as well as 87 coming into downtown san jose. that's the south bay right now and a good volume of traffic on

the roads, the next half hour will be critical from san jose. west 580 shows slowing around isabel's and also where there's reports of a crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle, injuries reported, called an ambulance for the motorcycle and driver. chp is on the scene to give us more details, hopefully just minor cuts and bruises. both directions showing eastbound and westbound. there is the trivalley. over to oakland a smooth drive on the maps. look at the live shot for the 800 past the coliseum. you're close to the limit high street through downtown and the east shore freeway the interstate 80 drive in the westbound direction, filling all the lanes underneath the university, a little break and slowing around the berkeley curve. we'll show you the maps as you approach that bay bridge toll plaza. we got a report of a crash on the east shore freeway. the cash is reported eastbound,

villagers will plead guilty. week to avoid the death penalty. robert bales attorney says his client was crazed and broken when he left his outpost and attacked two nearby villages. he was on his fourth combat deployment. his lawyers say he was suffering from ptsd and had a traumatic brain injury at the time of the attack. the fbi says a ;a0ñ27-year- was killed during an fbi interview about his ties to the boston marathon bombing suspects. today, joe paterno's family and others will file a lawsuit seeking to overturn the ncaa sanctions against the football program. the program was hit with a four-year bowl ban and scholarship cuts for the jerry sandusky child sex abuse scandal. the family of the late penn state coach will post the complaint on paterno.com once it

they used a fire extinguisher on the ground, indicating someone tried to put out the flames on their own. illegal wiring was found. the cause of the fire appears to be electrical. no one was hurt. tesla is super charging its plan to install new battery charging stations across the country for its fleet of electric cars. scott mcgrew joins us live. tesla's ceo says you'll be able to drive coast to coast. >> right, tesla had the best range, the distance you can drive in the industry. now it will have some of the most charging stations, enough strung across the country to drive between l.a. and new york city, stopping every 200 miles or so for a 30-minute charge. that's a long time at the gas station but keep in mind those refueling stops are free and the car, that's still spendy though

westbound commute involving a motorcycle, it did not hit anybody. the driver laid down the motorcycle, on its side and looking for reports on injuries and any lanes blocked. the chp and the bridge trying to get more detail to us. we're expecting more build up to the metering lights, they'll probably go a little slower. we see slowing speeds coming down into the 50s but berkeley, not a major concern. the crash west 80 over here, not a major w even though the initial report was eastbound we see a good slowing wbd out of rodeo. and then building also through richmond is a typical build spot so two slower spots. toward the trivalley west 580 as well. the earlier crash doesn't look

6:39. traces of dna on an orange juice can and surveillance video of a man praying in a mall led to the arrest of a man wanted in the stabbing death of a french soldier. prosecutors say the suspect was spotted praying in the corner of a busy mall for ten minutes before' tacked the soldier outside of paris. the 22-year-old suspect is unemployed and homeless. the soldier was hospitalized after the attack but has since been released. a man charged in the hacking death of a british soldier appeared in court early this morning. this right here is the scene outside the courthouse today where 22-year-old omichael adebewally was charged and other suspect is still in the hospital, the man seen boasting about the attack here in a video taken immediately after the attack. ten people have been arrested in this case including those two main suspects. overnight we've learned a

newborn found stuck inside a sewer pipe in china is now back in the custody of his mother. investigators say they gave the baby back to the mother because they decided the baby became trapped because of an accident. the mother says she gave birth in secret at a squat toilet. she tried to catch the newborn baby but he slipped into the sewer line. the local government says the man believed to be the father has requested a paternity test. the mother we're understanding will not be charged with a crime as originally first thought. the baby boy is doing well and has been discharged from the hospital but pretty miraculous that baby is doing okay now. >> a miracle. 6:41, coming up a coach under arrest on sexual assault charges, we'll tell you why more victims could soon be coming forward. plus a warehouse fire reveals a secret. we'll tell what you firefighters found when they went inside this bay area burning building next. and apple releases a new

the san jose fire department is telling us they were called out to assist one person at the scene. it is on audubon drive in east san jose not far from highway 101 and 280. dametrujillo is on his way to the scene. we just got off the phone with police who told us they are getting ready to board up a warehouse in oakland that caught fire early this morning, 51st avenue and 12th street in oakland's melrose neighborhood. investigators told our photographer the marijuana grow used an auto repair shop as a front. crews were able to put out the flames within 20 minutes and found a used fire extinguisher on the ground indicating somebody tried to put out the flames on their own. >> we saw the smoke, a warehouse, quite a bit of smoke coming from a vent, so we knew we had something on fire. we just didn't know there would be illegal marijuana grow inside the building. >> investigators say there was

this morning bay area investigatorsing looing for more victims of a former high school football coach accused of sex crimes against children. "today in the bay's" rob redell has more details on the investigation and how they hope more victims won't be afraid to come forward. >> reporter: good morning. the county sheriff's office is putting the word out because they believe the man who used to coach football at kennedy high in richmond might have sexually assaulted other children. they'd like anyone with any information about barron edwards to come forward. deputies arested this 51-year-old man last week, charged with three counts of rape and other counts of lewd and lascivious acts on children 15 years of age and under. edwards coached varsity football at kennedy high between 2004 and 2005. the sheriff's office hasn't said whether any of his alleged

victims ever attended school here at kennedy high. bob redell, "today in the bay". it's 6:51, we continue to follow breaking news in san jose where we're hearing reports of police activity and a shooting near santy elementary school. san jose fire department tell us they were called out to assist one person at the seen on audubon drive not far from the intersection of highway 101 and 280. damian trujillo is headed to the scene with new details we just got from police. >> reporter: good morning, laura. the concern is that this is in close proximity to santee element tier. the call came after 5:30 in the 1300 block of tubert lane. police arrived and found a male in his early 20s dead on the sidewalk here near santee elementary. neighbors heard gunshots and called it in and when police

arrived that's where they found the location we're at now, just arriving on the scene, we see the orange tape that is up and area is cordonned off. police are diverting traffic around santee elementary. there are no suspects at this time but one thing the police department touts in san jose they have a high solving rates. whenever a crime like this is committed, detectives and4hñ homicide detectives come on the scene and in no time they make an arrest of the suspect or suspects. we'll bring you more information as it becomes available. >> we'll check back with you later. we may not know until mid-july whether the new span of the bay bridge will be ready to open on labor day weekend. our cameras got an up close look at the main problem, broken rods of the deck.
