and you are in london and we will hear more about that, as well. an american mother released from a mexican jail, back on u.s. soil this morning. miguel is has more. >> she wrapped up an early-morning press conference a short time ago. she was beaming, thrilled about her release and she was praising her attorney who introduced key evidence that may have been responsible for her release from jail. after nine long nights in a mexican jail she has her freedom. reunited with her husband she says the nightmare is over. >> i'm grateful i'm frey free. >> reporter: they were returning from a funeral last week and their bus was pulled over at a military check point. more than 12 pounds of pot were discovered under two seats, including the one where juanita was sitting. >> someone smuggled those in

there and i sat in the wrong seat. >> reporter: on thursday, maldonado's attorney presented a key piece of evidence to the judge. surveillance photo taken the moment they stepped on the bus. >> it showed what we brought on the bus. >> the images show her with a purse, two bottles of water and two blankets. just before stepping on to the vehicle, she hands the blankets to gary who folds them tightly following him on the bus. >> it is clear they didn't have anything to do with it. >> within hours of seeing the video in court the judge ordered maldonado released. >> you guys did an amazing job out there for me. putting the word out that i was in there and innocent. that was the key i would say. >> reporter: this morning, an american citizen freed from a

mexican jail exonerated from a crime she never committed. >> i'm free. i'm free. i was innocent. >> reporter: maldonado was asked if she would ever return to mexico. she said perhaps in time, not immediately but that she loves mexico. >> miguel, thank you very much. in other news, no shortage of dangerous weather out there today. tornado warnings are up in the nation's mid section and scorching heat is fuelling a wildfire in california. let's begin with janet. she's on the ground in broken arrow, oklahoma, where a powerful tornado touched down on thursday. good morning to you. >> matt, good morning. there's been no let up to the storms. not just here in oklahoma but in a good part of the middle of the country. this came in last night. at first light people are assessing the damage for the first time. as it came in, nempb this region

was on alert. >> we need to boogie. >> reporter: this video captures the approach of a tornado in broken arrow on thursday just outside of tulsa. >> people say a tornado will sound like a freight train. definitely happening. >> reporter: according to national weather service two other tornados happened. >> we have seen a lowering wall cloud. >> weather channel dmiet vision cameras caught these lightning flashes of the storm. >> we witnessed a funnel when it was closer to broken arrow and pushing to the east. >> reporter: damaging power lines and several businesses and leaving residents scrambling to take cover. >> had to come down 91st street on the way home from the gym and saw rotation in the area. it was dark. i couldn't see the tornado on the ground but i could see the rotation. >> reporter: a twister killed 24 people last week in moore, oklahoma. cleanup crews demolished an

elementary school where seven children were killed. they will be back there cleaning up today but their eyes will be on the sky. oklahoma is in the threat zone once again today. matt, back to you. >> janet, thank you very much. from tornados to a big wildfire burning out of control this morning north of los angeles. nbc's diana is live in santa clar rita. >> the hills are smoky, hazy and burned. the charred aftermath of another wildfire. this fire, the power house fire began yesterday afternoon and has so far consumed 1,000 acres and at least one structure. the flames came dangerously close to water pipes and electrical lines. at one point was so bad that

mandatory evacuation orders were issued. those orders have been lifted but the teams are hard at work trying to cut fire breaks in the canyons around us. how much of the fire has been contained? we don't know yet. authorities are still assessing the damage. in the southwest the problem is triple-digit temperatures, las vegas, phoenix and palm springs pushing 100 degrees this weekend. phoenix will see 108. this is at a time with a ten-year drought. things are looking pretty bad this summer. matt? >> thank you. al's been tracking this. what can you tell us? things are not getting better and won't for the next 72 hours. you can see the storms firing up indianapolis to memphis back from springfield in to kansas. we have a severe thunderstorm watch in effect.

here's what is going on. the risk of storms from wichita falls all the way to detroit and northwestern ohio. there's a strong risk, once again, from the oklahoma/texas border including oklahoma study, tulsa in to fayetteville, large hail, damaging winds and strong tornados, the worst time at night. that's a big problem. when you get the storms you get a lot of rain. flooding has been a problem, as well. in to hudson, iowa, you can see the heavy rainstorms coming in. rescue by boat. flooding in wichita, kansas, where folks trying to drive through high water causing problems. we have flood watches to talk about throughout a good portion of the midwest. iowa yesterday was in a flood watch. much of missouri in flood watches and flash flood warnings. all the way in to central and northern chicago. why? more rain. they have in some areas gotten seven inches of rain from tulsa

to northwestern ohio. we are talking three to five inches of rain the next 48 hours. >> we will see you down here in a couple of minutes. the fbi is investigating what could be a third letter pla laced with poison this one sent to president obama. >> reporter: investigators say no arrests have been made but say an army veteran in texas is request questioned whether he has knowledge of the letters. as for the president, officials say he was never in danger and they say another ricin letter was mailed to the white house by a different sender. investigators say the letter addressed to president obama was found at a mail screening facility several miles from the white house and never got near the president. it was similar, they say, to this one, addressed to new york city mayor bloomberg with a threat against advocates of gun

control. >> the letter complains about gun control saying anyone who comes for my guns will be shot in the face. >> reporter: that was stopped a week ago at a facility that bounds mail for city hall. and another sent to the leader of the nonprofit gun control organization. they were postmarked from shreveport, louisiana and mailed may 20th. and contained a material that they say was a form of the deadly poison ricin, made from the beans or seeds of the caster plant. but the material in these letters was a weak form and presented little actual hazard. late thursday, the fbi disclosed another letter containing ricing and addressed to the white house was sent two weeks ago from spokane, washington, and intercepted at the off-site screening facility. the fbi said it was sent at the same time that a similar ricin letter from spokane was sent to a federal judge.

a 38-year-old man was arrested there last week for sending that one and is under investigation for sending the others mailed from spokane. the fbi says another letter sent from spokane was addressed to the cia at a location in virginia that does not accept mail. postal authorities say they are looking for that one to make sure it is dwelt safely and the man arrested in spokane has plead not guilty. >> before we let you go. when we talk about these letters, do officials think they are just angry individuals acting alone or do they think this is a kooshd natd effort? >> no coordinated effort. what they fear is all the attention these letters are getting maybe spurring copycats. >> pete williams in washington, thank you very much. let's go to natalie and news that an american woman has been killed in syria. >> that's right. good morning. that woman was from flint, michigan.

she was fighting alongside opposition forces. nicole mansfield's family says the fbi informed them of her death on wednesday. she was killed as they took photographs near the turkish border. the 33-year-old woman is a single mother of an 18-year-old daughter and had converted to islam five years ago. news executives meeting with attorney general eric holder say government officials are committed to changing the way they issue subpoenas when investigating reporters. this is after a public outcry when it surfaced that the justice department had been secretly gathering phone records and e-mails of several journalists. the president called for a review of the justice department guidelines. now head to wall street to courtney reagan at the new york stock exchange. good morning to you. >> good morning, natalie. they will discuss oil production levels today. the delegates are expected to maintain current production output which could keep the

"today" national investigative correspondent jeff rossen will show us how it happens. >> all of us who go to disney know how frustrating the lines can be especially when you're waiting there with kids. now some families are cheating the system. they're hiring disabled tour guides so they can cut right ahead of you to the front. if you think that's appalling, wait until you see it happening. we went undercover and caught it all on tape. disneyland, the rides, the characters, the happiest place

on earth, except if you're waiting in these long lines. you and your kids waiting hours in the heat. so how does this family get to skip past everyone? >> we get in front of everybody. >> reporter: they do it at ride after ride after ride, escorted to the front every time. >> that took about two minutes to get on. >> i know. the ride's going to take us longer. >> reporter: it's the outrageous business few even know about, families bypassing the lines by hiring disabled tour guides with these special passes that give them speedy access to rides, most theme parks like disney have great policies like this to help the disabled, but now, healthy families are abusing the system, paying disabled guides to get them in with up to five guests. >> these parents call them black

market handicapped disney guides. >> reporter: just look at these ads we found on craigslist, tour guides bragging about their disabled passes. let's cut the disney lines together. access to special entrances. so we had our producer and his family go undercover with home video cameras rolling, hiring two of those disabled guides to show them around disneyland. first up, guide number one, mara. she says she got her pass because of knee and back problems. >> i'm here to make sure everyone has fun at disneyland. >> you have a secret weapon today. >> i do, i have a special card that will help us beat the lines. >> reporter: and she charges $50 an hour to do it. we start at the teacups. look at that line. no problem for us. we skip ahead and get right in through the exit. which one are we getting in, the pink? okay. our second disabled guide, ryan, charges our family $200. he didn't tell us his

disability, but he uses that pass to get us into star tours through this side door, down a special hallway and right up these stairs, up to the rides. >> i can't believe we're getting past everybody. >> reporter: check out the line at splash mountain at least an hour long but we slipped right in through this back exit, thanks once again to that trustee disabled pass. another ride, one less line. in fact, over two days, ryan and mara flashed their passes and got us nearly instant access to some of the most popular attractions, bypassing this monster line at pirates of the caribbean and breezing past all these people at alice and wonderland. those guides happy to take our money while other families had to wait. jeff rossen from nbc news. i met up with mara in the parking lot. you're profiting from this. >> well disneyland is profiting a lot from all the people that enter. we live in a capitalist country

and i don't feel like it's morally wrong. >> reporter: mara is unapologetic but when i introduce ryan he's downright defiant. do you think you're abusing the system? >> no. >> reporter: why not? >> i gave him a wonderful tour. >> reporter: with your disabled pass you went into side entrances and exits and they're complete strangers and you charged them for it. >> and? >> reporter: do you ever feel any pangs of guilt cutting past all of the people waiting in line and paying you. >> it's a moral question. >> reporter: you don't feel morally -- >> i couldn't care less. >> reporter: about others waiting in line? >> no. >> reporter: disney says we find it deplorable. we have initiated a review of this abuse and will take appropriate steps to deter this type of unacceptable activity. that way, no one's jumping ahead of you this summer who shouldn't be. that's the goal, isn't it? now our investigation is getting

good morning to you. it's 8:26. i'm laura garcia-cannon. the breaking news we continue to follow all morning long for you it b.a.r.t., experiencing those major delays right now creating a nightmare headache for the morning commute. what happened is two maintenance vehicles crashed damaging a rail in the trans bay tube. this is actually video of our chopper of crews that are working on the track on the oakland side of the bay. all four b.a.r.t. lines are experiencing delays this morning. only eight trains are able to cross the bay every few hours instead of the usual 32. b.a.r.t. hopes to have service fully restored by 11:30, which is actually an improvement. earlier, mike, we had heard it wouldn't be ready until tonight.

>> that's right. first evening commute, then possibly late morning, now 11:30, that is late morning. we hope to hear better news. we are hearing about disruptions, hearing alerts on twitter. the train held at the west oakland station after being held at the mcarthur station. still some delays as you're heading through the trans bay tube. have to wait their turn one at a time, one in each direction at a time. the back-up on the east shore freeway, bay bridge, 880 and slow heading towards richmond center bridge. folks are delayed on that route. back to you. >> another local update in half an hour, see you then.

jacket. >> oh, don't be so sure. >> oh, i'm sure. i'm sure. >> there's a whole album out there, pictures on al. let me get to the headlines. a homecoming this morning for an arizona mother jailed in mexico on drug charges. yanira maldonado was released overnight. she was arrested last week after mexican officials said they found 12 pounds of marijuana under her bus seat. a mother of seven said she was set up. a court reviewed her case, looked at the security footage of that woman getting onto the bus, and then dismissed the charges. the fbi says a ricin-tainted letter sent to president obama is similar to ones mailed to new york city mayor michael bloomberg and to mark glaze who runs bloomberg's gun control group in washington. all three were mailed from shreveport, louisiana. officials say the letter neff reached the president. new york's police commissioner said the bloomberg writer letter threatened to shoot anyone who threatened to take way his guns. investigators say an army veteran in texas was being questioned about whether he had

any knowledge of the letters. a wildfire is raging north of los angeles. crews overnight were able to slow its growth, allowing residents who had fled from the flames to return to their homes, but this morning, excessive heat in the area could disrupt firefighting efforts. sentencing today for the zumba fitness instructor who ran a prostitution ring outside of her exercise studio. alexis wright agreed to a ten-month sentence in exchange of pleading guilty to prostitution, tax evasion and other charges. and a giant asteroid, 1.7-mile-wide rock will swing by us about 4:59 p.m. eastern time, and along with it is a surprise bonus rock. it turns out the asteroid has its very own moon. now, if you were thinking that an asteroid big enough to have its own 2,000-foot-wide moon must be pretty large, you are right. nasa scientists say the asteroid is apparently the same size as the one that wiped out the dinosaurs, but it will keep its

leif garrett poster. >> i used to have 17 magazine clips. >> we all did. new kids on the block. >> what about bumps along the way, people thinking about starting their business what lessons did you learn along the way? >> you never know how long it will take to get the product from prototype to manufacturing and allowing enough time for that process, getting the appropriate funding, building the plan up front and then the execution and allowing enough time for shipment of the product is probably the biggest hurdle in partnering with the right resources to get the product to market so we learned a lot along the way. >> well done, ladies. >> the next one, bella baby, kelly was a single mom trying to figure out how to make ends meet and you had this amazing idea all of the newborn babies being born in the hospital and after pitching every hospital in the chicago area she found one that agreed to take her on.

bella baby is in 40 states and 250 hospitals. so exciting. >> thank you. >> how did you come up with the business model for your idea? it's one thing to be an individual personal photographer but then to get the hospitals to sign up and be on board with it? >> it was an easy sell. newborns have been getting a bad wrap for being ugly for too long and they're beautiful. >> i have the newborn pictures and the beat up eyes. >> they're beautiful. >> they're prize fighters, coming out looking like they've been through battle. >> we tell the hospitals babies shouldn't look like squishy frogs. you just need the right photography and the right photographer and right light. >> one of the things i love is that you called every hospital until finally somebody. >> it's a numbers game. i want moms to know it's a numbers game. you can't call a few and get discouraged. you have to call every name in

easy to digest. easy to love. well, at 9:26, we finally have some good breaking news to bring you. b.a.r.t. is back up and in full service right now after a morning filled with some major delays. two maintenance vehicles crashed and damaged a rail in the trans bay tube early this morning. this right here is video from  our chopper, crews working on the oakland side of the bay. crews put in a temporary fix for the rail allowing trains to head east and west in the tube. however, b.a.r.t. will go back to a single track system at 11:30 this morning to fix the problem completely. crews are expected to be done with repair in time for the afternoon commute at 3:30. also, good news to report in the south bay, search crews have found a man who disappeared from his cupertino home.

63-year-old james norberg, you see here, suffers from dementia and als is safe with his family once again. the sheriff's office used a search dog around the area. about 7:30 this morning they found norberg at kennedy middle school. he was sitting on a fence behind the track. as far as they can tell, everyone says he's okay. after the break we'll take a look at the forecast and mike will look at the roads.

missouri, then shortly before the election, another candidate in indiana, richard mourdock said it was god's will when women were raped and at that moment mitt romney had an ad for mourdock on tv which he didn't pull and didn't denounce mourdock and at the same time saying i want to eliminate federal funding for planned parent hood. millions of women get their health services through planned parenthood and the president went out and campaigned very hard among women and connected well to them and of course michelle obama helped. >> you mentioned that. the folks who didn't vote for the president, why should they buy this? what is the message really about? >> i think this is partly just to place this in the history of this country, it was an extraordinarily important election, whoever won voted for and these events go by so fast, you see headlines. you want somebody, i hope me, to

come along and put everything that's happened in political life in the last couple years in some kind of context so it's comprehensible for people and i think there's also a personal lesson from barack obama and that's of perseverance. this is a guy who was essentially abandoned by, first his father and then his mother was doing research, raised by his grandparents. they were on food stamps for a while. he was able to make it all the way up and when he's behind the eight ball, looks like he's going to be a one-term president and a fluke and a footnote and a jimmy carter, he's able to come back. whether one likes or doesn't like obama, whether you voted or not, the story of perseverance is really important and also i just have a lot of fun stories in the book, michelle obama for instance. >> we're going to have to hold it there because there's a lot in there. >> father's day. >> that's right, father's day.

good morning to you. it is 9:56. i'm marla tellez. investigators are looking into the cause of an early morning fire at a popular french restaurant in san francisco. this happened at chez spencer, folsom and 14th street,

intermission neighborhood. the flames broke out around 1:30 this morning. it took fire crews a little more than an hour to put out those flames. no one was hurt. they opened in 2002 and is famous for the food cooked in the wood burning oven. firefighters tell photographs on the scene there damage estimates are well over a million dollars. chez spencer sent a message to patrons on twitter thanking everyone for their support and vows it will reopen soon. b.a.r.t. is back up and in full service right now after a morning filled with major delays. two maintenance vehicles crashed and damaged a rail in the trans bay tube. about an hour ago, crews put in the temporary fix to the rail allowing trains to once again head east and west inside the tube. the problem isn't completely fixed, mike, and there's still delays on the roads out there. >> that's right, marla. you said temporary fix. got something in place to allow both tracks to run. 11:30 shut down eastbound tracks again, single tracking until

look for healthy things like fruits. size of a baseball, meal replacement. >> that's how big an apple will be. >> but apples won't kill you. they're good for you. >> but if you don't need the calories, three big apples, 300 calories. >> wow, madelyn, that's too much. >> let's try to eat a little less often. instead of grazing constantly, plan three meals but divide them up. let's say this is for dinner, 5:30, you want a snack, have a soup and your main dish and save this for a snack later. but don't think of it as eating ten mini meals, set three meals and go from there. you're always going to eat less. everybody needs a treat. once a day or once a week. it's different for everyone. there's no magical foods, a lot of health food imposters, pick what you like. it might be a glass of wine. frozen dessert. it might be candy, salty crunchy. it might be a soda. pick one thing that you like, pick something. >> in a week or in a day? >> in a day.
