7:00 am
good morning on this first day of june. we start with a warm forecast as we look at the city from our mountain camera. it is going to be a very warm day today. we'll talk about the forecast for the midwest as well.
7:01 am
thanks for joining us. we begin with developing news in the midwest. where once again oklahoma finds itself in the middle of a deadly round of tornadoes. and with day break comes the news that type people were killed, including a mother and her young baby. 50 people east of oklahoma city were injured. some of them are seriously hurt. this is new video into our newsroom this morning one of those tornadoes touching down in el rino last night just west of oklahoma city. >> oh, my goodness. oh, my goodness. oh, no. let's turn the car around. let's get ready. large tornado. large tornado right there. >> and just ten miles away, twin twisters form in union city, oklahoma, where officials say at least two were killed. you can see the debris being whipped around by storms. at one point, that was a massive

hail bail. we want to bring in meteorologist rob miela. rob, you did some storm chasing yourself. >> my research project with my grad students as we went through the plains about three or four years ago. you saw the video there of multiple vortex tornados where you see one tunnel, then another one forms, counterclockwise around that wall cloud. that produces multiple tornadoes in a relatively small area. you can see reports have been across eastern oklahoma. we can see this on the radar summary for oklahoma. we've had those storms moving into st. louis, where it caused the suspension of that giants game. you can see the severe weather today. the threat will move further off to the south and east. we're watching the highest threat for severe storms today from little rock back down into dallas, near austin, texas.

near eastward near louisville, kentucky, and in towards ohio. so we'll look for a chance of possibly some more severe weather today. it's important to point out from an historical standpoint from june 1st, the storms producing tornadoes is right there in the southern plains. unfortunately, is part of the weather pattern for this time of year. you can see, what's left of the severe storms, now moving into north texas, where more severe weather and flooding will be a threat today. >> we want to check in with rob throughout the newscast for the latest but we also want to continue our coverage with jay gray who joins us with the latest. this round of tornadoes comes just 12 days after 24 people were killed in moore, oklahoma. how is it -- what's the feeling out there where you are? >> chris, obviously, everyone glad that this storm has moved on there.
7:04 am
it's taking its toll, nobody question about this. as you've been talking about, this is tornado alley. they're used to storms. a lot of times they're in empty plain lands. not this time. this is the third major storm to hit this area. like you talked about the last 12, 13 days. first shawnee, oklahoma, be a deadly twister. then the f-5, the most powerful tornado that can be rated raking across moore. and then again a deadly round of tornadoes here last night. they're worn out. they're wondering when this is going to end. when you talk to people on the streets, you can tell that obviously the physical scars are deep but the emotional and mental scars are going to be just as difficult to heal and going to take just as long. it's going to be a tough go for a long time in this region. >> we're gla you stayed a safe distance away. thank you very much for joining us. passengers at will rogers
