highway 101 of a big-time rock slide out there. we have new video of that slide in salsalito. this happened a little after 2:00 this morning. that slide came down a little south of rodeo avenue on 101. chp officers there on scene said three of the four southbound lanes were completely blocked at one point. we talked to one driver who hit some of the rocks as she was coming home from work. >> i came up the hill. the rock slide. tried to get into two lanes. it was so dark. i see a big rock and kind of just put my head back. >> what a rough morning there. she also tells us that road is very dark through the area. they couldn't see any rocks on the road. nobody seriously heard. visitors at a popular pale low alto area.

police are on the lookout for a man that groped a female jogger. the woman was groped while walking along the pale low alto baylands. christie smith is live in palo alto how other people on the trail helped the victim. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. well, this woman says she first noticed this man enter the baylands area from the east palo alto bridge, just eight short way from here. she says he stayed behind her. she started to get uncomfortable, like what is this guy doing. she stopped three times to try and let him pass other on the trail but he just kept staying behind her. this was sunday around 11:00 a.m. each time, she says that he stopped too. he kept jogging on the three-mile bay trail loop when the man finally attacked or jumped on her back and then groped her. she told police she thought the guy was trying to take her to the ground. that's when two bicyclists

approached and tried to help and then the attacker ran off. understandably, people who used the trail are really shaken up. >> we are really shocked. this seems like a pretty safe area. we have been out here for more than a year and never heard anything happening. so it is a shock. it kind of makes us afraid to come here. >> now, another witness told police that she saw someone similar to the attacker walk out of a bathroom at a nearby athletic club earlier sunday and follow her too. only a vague description. hispanic or biracial man about 20, 5'8", 160 pounds, clean shaven are dark, buzzed hair, wearing blue shorts, white tee and white shoes, wearing studs, clear studs, in both ears. police have stepped up patrols. they are working on a sketch and sending out a warning for women to be extra careful if you are out here. they are also trying to get in touch with the two bicyclists who helped out.

they apparently left before police came out here and took a police report. they want to know what they saw. reporting live in palo alto, christie smith, "today in the bay." a former high school football coach accused of molesting multiple children expected in court today. 51-year-old baron edwards facing a total of 16 felony counts. contra county sheriff deputies say he molested a number of kids back in the 1980s and 1990s. he coached football in richmond from 2004 to 2005. bay area police have issued a silver alert looking for this woman, 77-year-old woman with alzheimer's. her name is teo fia, herrera. she was last seen yesterday morning at her home in san lorenzo. she is just under five feet tall with brown hair and brown eyes. she could be driving a 2003 four-door toyota camry with this

california license number, 5 au 8431. tens of thousands of voters will start heading to the polls in less than two hours from now. in santa clara county, voters will be making a key decision on who will replace a disgraced county supervisor. bob redell is live. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, to you, jon. polls open at 7:00 in the south bay for an election that few people seem to care about. the santa clara registrar of voters tells us that the turnout is only expected to be around a 35-45%. it is not cheap to put on one of these special elections. the expectation is going to cost at least a half million dollars. voters will be electing a new santa clara county supervisor for district two which encompasses most of the downtown area. seven candidates are in the running but only five have been

attending this including this one put on by the tv channel. they need 50% of the vote to win. otherwise, first and second place candidates will compete in a runoff next month. they are vying for the position vacated by george shirakawa. he pled guilty to five felonies for abuse of public money. he will be sentenced for the crimes this friday. people who live in hercules, much north of here, will be voting today on whether or not to approve measure a. this is a tax they pay on their gas, electric, water, and phone bills. this is significant. if it does not pass, the hercules police department says it would most likely have to disband, not having enough money and the city would have to contract out the contra costa sheriff's office for police protection. they would most likely have to cut their programs for teens. reporting live, bob redell shall

"today in the bay." thank you, bob. 5:06. a berkeley woman is behind bars accused of exporting gun parts to thailand. they arrested the woman and five others over the weekend. they sent 240 shipments of gun parts to thailand over the past two years. the other people arrested live in seattle, los angeles and las vegas. mountainview police trying to figure out who is responsible for break-ins at several doctors offices near el camino hospital. a total of five offices have been broken into over the past two weeks. it started with two offices on hospital drive ransacked the night of may 18th. somebody broke into three more offices just around the corner on south drive. none of the burglars appeared to have stolen anything and police say it is not clear at this point if the burglaries are related. mountain view police have released this sketch of a man wanted in connection with a

recent burglary. police say he broke into a home on brian avenue near mountainview high last thursday night while a man was sleeping. the man did wake up to find him inside his bedroom. the burglar took off with a wallet and a cell phone. police think the burglar intended to enter the home through the garage. good morning. it is 5:08. meteorologist, christina loren, joins us. talking about the winds. not so much today. >> we are going to see the dry, northerly winds start to pick up as we head throughout the end of the week. that's what's going to bring on that heat wave. this morning, calm winds to start. we will see them pick up just as we do towards the afternoon hours this time of year. that is the norm for us. 5:08. starting with a live look, you can see the fog coming in. it is lowering more than we had at this time yesterday. we are concerned about advi visibility dropping off. 54, san francisco, 55 to start the day in san jose.

the los gatos counsel council is hoping to keep netflix from skipping down. they cut down the size of the project limiting the square footage and height from the developer's lornplan. netflix is growing and says they need to move to a new building. >> palo alto wants the community too weigh in on a proposed development project between downtown palo alto and stanford university. the site is at 27 university avenue near el camino real. the city council said it wants to explore turning that area into an arts and entertainment district. the city says it will conduct six to eight public meetings to discuss the idea. we can tell you, this is not the first time somebody has tried to

going to be a hot, dry june. 54 degrees in san francisco. that can change. we will let you know. a lot of people are concerned about a potentially dangerous fire season here. yeah, that chance is there. if we all act accordingly, if we all are on our best behavior, i think we can actually do our part to keep that threat down, keep it minimal. let's talk about that. as we head throughout the day today, a nice onshore flow. that means that cool marine air will pump inland. we are not going to see low humidity levels just yet. what happens is it drives the winds offshore. they pump from land to sea. as they move from land to sea, all that air dries out along the way. you can see all that dry, brown brush on our hills, lots of fuel available if we did see a fire around here. you want to make sure you act accordingly. like i keep saying. clear that defensible space around your home. we got by with okay conditions

last year. it was very hot and dry last year. we can do it again this year if everybody does their part. 74, fremont. 79, down south. a comfortable day in san jose. wednesday through thursday, temperatures start to heat up. we really drive up your temperatures from friday, from 88 degrees to 98 degrees on friday. then, the triple digits arrive on saturday. i'm not just talking about triple digits in the hottest cities but i'm talking about triple digits in some of your metropolitan cities like livermore, for example. keep in mind, hottest air of the season so far on its way as we get into this upcoming weekend. we are going to cool you off a little bit sunday into monday. not by much. looking hot all the way through next weekend, which is father's day weekend. we will have your full forecast coming up. take a closer look at what's happening around the bay. a traffic tuesday. we are looking for heavier volume but things are starting to shift. schools are starting to get off for the summer. this next couple of weeks, adjustments going on. right here, the traffic through

the south bay. overall, looking pretty good. we have seen some adjusting as the crews start to move. southbound 880, a lot of slowing over the last few minutes. heading south down towards 101 from 237. that looks like it has completely cleared and speeds are restored. we had some slowing heading down towards brokaw. that has cleared over the last few. a crash around zankar road. no injuries reported. a little slowing shows up. that's about it for the south bay. peninsula moves smoothly, 101 and 280 for the most part, including the dumbarton and san mateo bridge. north past the airport as you are approaching sfo, we have another incident. some sort of debris in the roadway, watch for that. there may be a traffic break. heading over there, it looks clear on the censors. the view, there you go, westbound, no problems. you can see the high-rise low clouds here. the bay bridge, smooth drive there as well for int state 880.

a newark family is hoping the public can help them find a stolen lawn ornament that has some sentimental value. a pink pig riding a bicycle with rainbow-colored wheels. it disappeared from the family's home on dairy avenue just off newark boulevard last week. the family says the art was given to their 7-year-old daughter by her garandfather frm japan. the girl has autism and they say the art has special meaning to her. if you know what happened to the art, please give them a call. the san jose city council voting on a plan to increase the marijuana business tax from 7% to 10%. today's vote will be the final one on the issue. richmond city council is taking up two issues. they will vote on a 45-day moratorium on second-hand dealers, such as cash for gold businesses. it will also discuss a ban on

intruder and was simply acting in self-defense. back here in the bay area, palo alto police are on the hunt for a man that attacked and groped a jogger along the palo alto bayland as nature preserve, close to the palo alto golf course at 11:00 a.m. on sunday. christie smith is live in palo alto about how a pair of cyclists helped the victims. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. that's who palo alto police want to speak with. they saw this attacker. they've also increased their patrols and they are putting out a warning to joggers to be extra careful after a woman says that she was attacked from behind near the bayland's preserve trail. sh she noticed a man following her very closely, enough to make her uncomfortable. this was sunday morning around 11:00. she stopped three times to try and let this guy pass but each time, he stopped too.

they were both jogging. he says she was near the palo alto golf course. this guy suddenly jumps on her back. he thinks she was trying to take her down to the ground. he groped her sexually. she was able to push her away. that's when the two bicyclists approached. they stopped to help the woman. joggers tell us that they are not going to stay away. they will be more careful. >> i think i'll keep my eye open more and keep more attention, have the music down a lot more. you know, there are a lot of people out there. i'll just be more aware of my surroundings. it is not going to stop me from going out there. >> reporter: the victim, a woman in her 30s, was certainly shaken up. she wasn't injured. police were able to interview another woman who says a man followed her that same morning a little bit earlier after leaving a bathroom of a nearby athletic club. only a vague description of the attacker, hispanic or biracial,

case, his attorney argued his dna was likely mixed into the evidence pool because of windy weather and wind caused the helicopter that rushed the victim to the hospital a major mistake in the classroom could cost a bay area high school teacher his job. police say he accidentally showed his class a naked picture of himself. after 16 years working in the district, richard styner is facing serious charges. he came under scrutiny when he told staff he accidentally showed his class a naked photo of himself during a file sharing demo. school officials called police during the search of his school computer. investigators found child pornography and more than 200 pornographic stories. styner is on unpaid administrative leave. some parents were upset they were not notified. >> even though the class, the school has taken the lead here in notifying authorities, i

think that perhaps some notification should have gone out to the parents as well. the district attorney's office posted a statement on his website saying it is deeply concerned. meanwhile, styner's attorney says no one should jump to any conclusion or form any opinion as to whether rick styner has committed a crime. there is not sufficient evidence to convict him of any crime. he is expected to answer to the child pornography charge in court next week. voters heading to the polls today in several bay area counties for some local elections and in santa clara counsel tichlt a position on the board of supervisors now up for grabs. seven-day outlook, coming up in my next report. we have a major heat wave headed our way. i will time that out and let you know when and where the hottest will occur. we will check that drive. >> good morning. we are looking over here to the bay bridge. this is going to heat up your commute as well. not too long from now. a backup in the cash lanes on both sides of the fast-track lanes. this is 5:39. we are starting to build as the metering lights turn on about 6:00, maybe a little bit before. we look at the map and see the maze move smoothly at the limit. because of that volume of traffic, not a big deal. we see that is the trend right here throughout the east bay. southbound 880 just past davis, behind that 880 sign, we have reports of just a cone in the lane. not a big deal. the undetermined hazard is really just a cone that they may have to remove. a smooth drive. the castro valley "y," not a problem. a little slowing toward the dublin interchange.

one person is dead and another in a hospital in a shooting that ended in a crash in oakland. police found a car crashed into a pole on ghormley avenue late last night near 98th and interstate 880. both people in the car had been shot. one of the victims had already died when officers arrived. the second victim was rushed to a hospital and at last check is in stable condition. police have not released

information on possible suspects in the meantime, in san jose, police arresting two suspects in the shooting death of two teenagers. we can also tell you the suspects are teens themselves. one of them is 19-year-old matthew clifford of san jose. a 17-year-old was also arrested. his name, at this point, has not been released. the san jose police, covert response and metro units tracked down the suspects saturday. the teenagers are suspected of shooting and killing 15-year-old christian kamalang and 16-year-old johnson kular in east san jose two sundays ago. police do not believe the double shooting was gang related. clifford has been booked into the santa clara county jail. the second suspect remains at juvenile hall. the state lawmaker is calling for a change in san jose. nora compost, who lives in san jose thinks police should ask the chp for help. putting more officers on the

could have imagined, was making me sick. they were asking me if i had recently been in a third world country or if i have ever used needles or anything like that. >> this is serious stuff. if you have any of those berries, health officials reminding you to throw them out immediately. >> 5:45. happening now, firefighters working throughout the night making more progress on this massive wild fire burning north of los angeles. the powerhouse fire is still threatening about 275 homes, cooler temperatures and lighter winds overnight have helped fire crews out there. the 32,000 acre fire has destroyed at least six homes and damaged nine others. at this point, though, it is 60% contained. full containment is expected next week. >> good news there. christina has told us numerous times, we are in that state that has that fuel, that old, burning grass, that really makes it rough. >> specially as you travel
