tuesday morning in a car crash in los angeles. general stanley mccrystal was the top u.s. commander in afghanistan back in 2010 when he agreed to talk with the "rolling stones" contributor. those talks produced the article "the run away general" and it revealed the criticisms of the obama administration. mccrystal was fired. hastings won an award for that story. turning to the growing wild fires, and a fast growing one in the press cost national forest grew to 5,000 acres within hours, fuel by heat and high winds. hundreds of homes have been evacuated. there's no word on what sparked that blaze. in california, state of emergency in maraposa county crews battled a wildfire near yosemite park. that is now 40% contained. denver experienced a pretty unbelievable sight, a toronto.

the funnel cloud was right over the denver international airport yesterday. thousands of people sought refuge in the bathrooms and facilities until the threat was over. flights were diverted yesterday and they are expected to run on time today. for a closer look at the forecast, we're joined by nbc's bill karins. a tornado over a major airport, and it was in between two runways. some people on the tarmac had to be evacuated. this is almost right underneath the tornado. this isn't a typical tornado, where you can see the condensation clouds there, but it is amazing stuff.

welcome back. stories in the news this morning, the fbi has nabbed one of its ten most wanted a day after he was added to the list. walter lee williams was arrested in mexico. he's wanted on charges of sexually exploiting children. the american medical association is now categorizing obesity as a disease, a move defining it as a medical condition requiring treatment. doctors estimate obesity affects some 78 million adults and 12 million children across the country. the house has approved a nationwide ban on abortions after 20 weeks of presidency. it was a mostly party line vote
