bertha coombs joins us live from cnbc headquarters. good morning, bertha. rrp it's that weird wall street thing that happens. we have the futures pointing higher this morning. on wednesday we had stocks leaping higher even after we got a report that showed the first quarter of the economy grew less than expected. now, what seems to be happening here is a case of bad news being good news. here is how you should follow it. bad economic data means the fed is less likely to stop its bond buying program. that's one of the things that people on wall street fear, that the fed will pull back too soon. when we get bad data that means the fed might stay on hold, so that's good. as a result we had stocks moving higher. today we've got a whole lot of data to chew on, unemployment in about a half hour, personal income, spending, pending home sales. and we'll see whether the dow can get back above 15,000.
5:16 am
the dow starts at 14,910, up 149 points on the day yesterday. the nasdaq at 3,376 after gaining 28. in my book, scott, i like it when good news is good news. if the economy is showing good data and the economy is moving higher, that is a better motivation for stocks to move higher. >> in the long run. bertha coombs, thank you much. chik-fil-a once again distancing itself from its own owner and founder as that man speaks out once again against gay marriage. the "wall street journal" says it has a since deleted treat which reads, sad day for our nation, founding fathers would be ashamed of our generation to abandon wisdom of the ages regarding cornerstone of society. they say that was tweeted out shortly after the supreme court decision yesterday. the company itself says don

forces all the moisture right to the surface. meanwhile we've got a completely clear sky in san jose to start the day. yeah, it's really, really balmy even with clear conditions. 63 degrees in san jose. 65 in sunnyvale and 59 degrees in santa cruz. you don't have a whole lot of cloud cover to keep you cool even at the immediate coast today. it's going to be warm. make sure you have that is,pf ready to go. high pressure builds in. this is a big strong ridge of high pressure coming in all the way from texas. it will drive our winds offshore starting today, packing a lot of energy. so we're going to go from near record rainfall earlier this week right into near record heat starting tomorrow. it's already going to be hot today. 75 degrees at 2:00 p.m. at santa cruz. in the heat of the day, about 78 degrees. let's look at some of our temperatures. not quite hitting the 90s in san jose, but oh, so close to it at 86 degrees here. 92 for livermore and 91 degrees in concord. meanwhile 72 in san francisco. here is where it gets interesting. we're going to keep that heat on
5:19 am
all the way through sunday. and monday will be the warmest. i want you to make sure to keep that on your radar. that's the day we'll have serious fire danger, and that will continue into tuesday as the dry conditions persist. our air quality will likely suffer. as we head through wednesday, look at the drop off between tuesday and wednesday. an area of low pressure comes through that might bring us another round of showers up to the north bay. hold on tight. more weather whiplash. we don't want that in the traffic department. that's why we have our own mike inouye to guide us in the morning. >> so far no reports of whiplash or any accidents or crashes through the tri-valley. this slowing we saw for 580, that has cleared both directions. right around the isabel interchange we're slow. the volume is building there as well as coming out of the altamont pass westbound through livermore. also isabel toward vallecitos. it's mild, just about the 10%, 20% below the speed limit as you
