jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia cannon. mike, seeing a dishfference on e roads yet? >> except for what marla showed, the cash lanes don't show that much of a backup, even though they're not all open right now. we'll see that and track it over the next 10, 15 minutes. the berkeley curve, the section with the red lights away from us to the right, good steady flow there and cars coming off 580 over the area, as well. we do see flashing lights off the roadway, not affecting the flow so much. look at the berkeley can curve itself, slowing through emeryville, as well. the concern, the folks hitting the roads, heading toward the bay bridge. you want to avoid the bridge, south toward the san mateo bridge, more traffic for 101 and 880. we'll get a live look at the san mateo bridge, traffic westbound, good steady volume there, nothing of major concern yet but watching the trend here, seeing

a few more cars than we typically see, but still at the limit across the bridge to the peninsula just fine. golden gate bridge, heading north, we'll track the commute, but so far a smooth drive. >> the bus bridge with no b.a.r.t. to rely on this morning, many commuters turning to other forms of public transportation. today in the bay live at fremont where a lot of south bay commuters will be depending on this bus service. damion, good morning. >> reporter: that's right. good morning, marla. first bus arrives at 4:15 this morni morning, but it's not loading passengers yet. there are a couple dozen passengers here waiting to board those free chartered buses. b.a.r.t. did charter several buses to get passengers into the city. to help out with the commute. this is one of only four b.a.r.t. stations in the system that will run those buses. the other stations with chartered bus service are el sore eto dell norte, walnut

creek and pleasantton until 9:00 a.m. and bring you from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. the buses will take you to the west oakland b.a.r.t. station and from there you will have to jump on another chartered bus, which will take you into the city. you cannot drive to the west oakland b.a.r.t. station and jump on one of those buses. you have to have a special ticket obtained from one of the four selected b.a.r.t. stations. now we ran into one couple this morning who had no idea there was a b.a.r.t. strike. >> we are just expecting good customer service, you know? it's good if they want to go on strike, just let us know in advance. i had to wake my friend up at 3:30 in the morning. >> you didn't read the paper or listen to the news on the tv or radio? >> well, we are visitors here so we are doing the touristy stuff. >> reporter: 58 buses total, service is free and for a round-trip. to return to one of the four

b.a.r.t. stations in the afternoon, again, you need to be at -- on howard street between fremont and booel beal. the last bus back to the east bay leaves at 7:00 p.m. again, this is all on a first-come, first-served basis, no standing allowed on any of these buses. these folks are still waiting to jump on. by the way, the cab fare for the ride for that one couple, $110. live at the fremont b.a.r.t. station, today in the bay. >> and including the tip. 5:03. picturetters showed up and credit kristy smith is live with details. christie. >> reporter: good morning, these are b.a.r.t. workers, members of local 1021, technicians, medicatio mechanics, clerks, been here since just after midnight.

expressing his condolences to the families of the 19 firefighters who died battling that massive wildfire. the fire has destroyed 200 homes and burned about 2,000 acres near the communities of yarnel and glen isla, 70 miles northeast of phoenix. they were members of the prescott fire department's granite mountain's hot shot's team. in a statement, president obama called the firefighters heroes and said the federal government is assisting state and local officials in arizona. the fast-moving fire has prompted the closure of state route 89 and also triggered the evacuation of about 150 homes. i wanted to get the wife, because the fire was getting close. the house is on fire when we left. everything was there. but it was on fire. so -- it's gone. >> lightning sparked the fire on friday and the flames were in

populated areas. >> simply tragic. so hot in the desert, as well, christina. >> it is. and it's going to be hot here again. good monday morning to you. thanks for waking up with us. temperatures are pretty mild to start. and we aren't going to get much more relief as we head through the next hour and hit the coolest point of the day. 62 in oakland, 64 in sunny value and san jose at 63. let me take you to the hour by hour changes. this is all of the talk, the hot weather. when will we get relief? not for the next few days. it will have five to six more days of this really hot weather before we finally see that heat break. so put that on your radar right away. start to make those plans indoors, in the shade, at the beach, whatever it takes to stay safe out there. at noon, 97 in antioch. 95 at lunch time in livermore, you round out the day at 105 degrees. this isn't even the peak of the heatwave. we're going to start tomorrow with temperatures in the 70s and 80s and that means tomorrow's high is closer to 110 degrees

right here in the bay. we'll detail that coming up. first a look at your drive. good morning, mike. >> an overview view, bay bridge backup here. we have the cash lane starting to stack up. we typically see a pattern where one of the sides has a heavier backup. a few more cars than we see. a few more meaning a half dozen in each lanes. combined, 100 extra cars we see. that's a lot of cars for this time of morning, folks. so there is the cash lanes backing up. and the volume, heavier coming down the berkeley curve as well as out of oakland. let's take a look past the coliseum and we see the northbound side picking up the volume just a tad bit. the high street high-rise slowing a little bit. speeds coming down to the upper 50s, lower 60s through oakland and toward the maze. so that's again indicating perhaps a heavier volume of traffic through the area. let me show you these maps. we're concerned because with the b.a.r.t. strike, no trains running, we will have more folks running the road and 880 slow. west 580, still okay through

oakland. caster valley, a smooth drive but sensors changing from green to yellow on the toll plaza, as well. again, indicating more traffic flow but not necessarily any big dip in speeds yet. we're watching this 580 web out of livermore, into castro valley, as well, the route that a b.a.r.t. line takes that will not be running from pleasantton, dublin and to the scene. and keep in mind highway 4 typically shows the first slow down and we follow the track lines from bay point. it's heavier, though, guys. back to you. >> today marks a very painful anniversary in bay area history. 20 years ago, a gunman stormed into the petit and martin law offices at 101 california street. john lieu uji fieri wounded and killed eight people before turning the gun on himself. the tragic events that day sparked gun control debate on a national level. the gunman used 32 round clips

in that attack. within months. shooting, the weapons ban signed into law by president bill clinton. in apr. two teenagers are recovering from gunshot wounds this morning in oakland and the gunman is still on the run at this hour. police say the boy and girl both just 14 years old were with a group of friends and parked near 98th and upon craft avenue when a man walked up with a gun and started shooting. the teens were hit by bullets as they tried to run away. they were taken to a hospital for treatment. police say they are expected to be okay. judgment day for the pilot.

bay area packed. this is a live look at the roadways, as well, already picking up out from there. this is 101. we'll bring you any new details as soon as they're released this morning. >> 5:35. facebook today will remove ads from some of its pages. but scott mcgrew, some of these pages aren't the sort most advertisers would want to associate themselves with anyway. >> that's right, marla. >> reporter: facebook cleaning itself up. it has gotten rid of pages with themes of violence against women, pages involving intolerance. it's going to continue to clean up the service by removing the side bar ads from what it terms adult themes. google blogger is doing the same thing today, removing ads from blogs containing adult content. this is useful to facebook and google for two reasons. advertisers won't want to be associated with adult content, even if legal and allowed on the site.

secondly, these policies tend to reduce the incentive for people to post adult content because of the owners of the page can't monetize them. no ads, no money. over the weekend, the "new york times" discovered yahoo!'s marissa mayer is the highest paid woman ceo in america. $36 million a year in pay and benefits. though she is not the highest-paid woman in silicon valley, that honor goes to the vice president of oracle. she makes more than $50 million a year. close behind that is seema mody live at cnbc world headquarters. good morning. >> we could only wish, scott. very good morning to you. futures higher as investors kick off a second half of the trading year. the markets have had a very good start to 2013, even despite the volatility over the past two weeks as people fret over what the fed will do with those interest rates. the dow had its best first

it was a sea. the ocean, of course, in a sea of p on the actual beach. and youw to be, and it was still really hot oere. this is the kind of heat that becomes dangerous, because now people have to go back to work. and is a lot of guys working outdoors, construction, a lot of women, as well, delivering mail, whatever it is, make sure you're ready for the heat today, try to take quite a few breaks, and make sure you've got that water bottle ready to go. 67 in livermore, 63 in san jose. big ridge of high pressure. this is not only controlling the weather here for the entire western half of the united states. it is a big, strong ridge of high pressure. and for us, it's going to bring some energy up here to the bay area that will translate to hotter air. and we're talking 100-plus degree readings today, inland, all the way through wednesday. and more humidity with some of the sub tropical moisture, as well. so the best bet if you're a parent, want the kids outdoors, the best opportunity to do so will be in the morning or

evening hours. or take them to the beach, just make sure you have the spf 30. even with sunscreen, do it every hour, so you don't get burned. still strong. high uv index, strong sun rays coming through. 105 in livermore. 92 in fremont. 95 degrees today right here in san jose. so it's unusual to get this hot this early in the season. i'm calling it ridiculous heat for tomorrow. 180 degrees inland. 92 bayside. and you're going to hit the 80s tomorrow, even in san francisco, close to 85 degrees. wednesday into thursday, which, of course, is the 4th of july. that's when it's going to be very dry around here. and i would not be surprised to see some of these fireworks displays getting cancelled because of the severe fire weather we're going to be dealing with. so we're not seeing that just yet. we'll keep you posted in that happens. but it's happened before. we have seen it before. and the conditions this year are not looking great for the 4th of july. 100 degrees inland, 87 bayside

and 78 at the coast. the man of the hour, the guy we're going to keep checking in with, any changes out there, mike. >> first of all, i'm pointing out something you're trying to get away from. tuesday, ridiculous heat. i thought yesterday was ridiculous. my dwns. over here, not ridiculous but heavier than we often see. and this is the bay bridge toll plaza. the cash lanes off to your left. they're backed up. but not all open over the last few minutes. it looks like they have opened. the ones to the right in the fast track lanes, a half dozen cars each, heavier than we typically see. so it looks like the volume of traffic heavier. we're concerned because the b.a.r.t. transit worker strike going on so no trains will take that traffic. they hit the roads in many cases. we're watching over here, the castro valley not showing elevated commute. we have seen the counter commute showing slowing. that's unusual. we track all of the trends here in the traffic center. a smooth drive across the san mateo bridge, heavier volume than we typically see, a concern. san mateo bridge, did you know

bart bridge, including the express, an option for ac transit. those should pick up more volume, as well. and 880 and 101 also seeing more traffic back and forth as folks head to and from the bridges. atypical commute for a lot of folks around the area. the south bay, that has not shown any real change over the course of the morning so far. but we're tracking that anyway. cal tran will take you from the south bay up the peninsula. but as we get farther up the peninsula, folks might use that as an alternate to the b.a.r.t. system. there are already packed trains. the north bay looking toward san rah yell and southbound 101, toward lincoln avenue, no big deal now heading toward the san rafael bridge, across the golden gate, still at speeds from the waldo tunnel. the european union wants an explanation from the u.s. after intelligence leaks suggest the u.s. was spying on them. a german magazine published the leaks believed to have come from former security contractor, ed ward snowden.

a spokesman for the director of national intelligence says the u.s. will respond directly to the eu, not in public. this weekend, eu officials said this isn't how a country should treat its allies. >> as a european and representative of a european institution, like the representative of an enemy. >> mean time, snowden is stuck at the moscow airport, unable to leave because the u.s. has revoked his passport. snowden has applied for asylum in ecuador but the country saying it will only grant the request if he can get there. cancelled performances of one of the las vegas shows indefinitely after a performer fell to her death this weekend. 31-year-old sara sassoon was performing and fell 50 feet to the stage below. she died at the hospital. it's the first deadly accident

in cirque du soleil's 30 year history. officials are working with authorities to investigate what went wrong. house republicans are putting their foot down and that could mean trouble ahead for the new immigration bill. they're insisting to change key elements of the senate-passed bill. it's expected to focus on heavy border security. the republican chairman of the house judiciary committee said any attempt at comprehensive immigration legislation cannot offer, a quote, special pathway to citizenship for those in the u.s. illegally. democrats have called that position a deal-breaker. today a judge in san diego will decide if yoga as a religious practice should be banned from public schools. a family-hired attorney dean boyles filed a lawsuit in february saying the program violates the separation between church and state. but the district superintendent says changes have been made removing any cultural or religious references in yoga curriculum. he adds that since starting the classes in january, students are
