friends sam and mary haskell built a beautiful, beautiful home there. there we are at the sam and mary haskell theater at ole miss. sam was captain of -- you know, these people go to their universities and it's like for the great years of their life and have a great impact. i think he was president of the school and all of that. he went on to be the head of worldwide television for the william morris agency. i met him when he was in the mailroom at the -- and he said -- and that's so many years ago. he said kath, one day i'm going to be an agent and you're going to be my first client. and that's exactly what happened. for 35 years he's been one of my dearest friends. his wife mary who is a sensational actress and singer and his daughter mary lane who is also -- starring in "hello dolly." so i was able to do both things. >> there they are right there. it was a terrific show. everybody was great. i love the south. i love this little town of

was there. and it's known as an oppressive regime where they don't treat their people well. >> torturing, that sort of -- fun stuff like that. >> she sang "happy birthday" to the president who happened to be in attendance at this concert and she, you know, she basically they said, what were you thinking singing that song afterwards. and she apologized and said she didn't have any idea. >> it wasn't for him. he was apparently at it. so she's coming under fire for that. her publicist says it was fully vetted no, problem. she got paid an enormous amount of money i'm sure for the concert. >> alec baldwin, too, was, you know, at it again. safe to say when it comes to alec. describe what happened. he was in a war with a member of the paparazzi. >> he went to gandolfini's funeral along with his pregnant wife hilaria. and i guess somebody then said that they were tweeting

inappropriate tweets during this very moving -- apparently that was not true and he got in some sort of altercation with some guy who is a writer for the mail. i may be all wrong about this but these are the facts as i was told. and alec then wrote some pretty vicious tweets which he wants to do toward this guy. and accused him basically -- called him a -- i want to get it exactly right. >> he made a gay slur. >> all right. a gay slur. >> why can alec baldwin make a gay slur and still have a capital one commercial and how can charlie sheen say all those things and do all those things and still have a hit show and jennifer lopez say she is sorry and how can everybody else -- >> where is the justice in all of this? there should be a one standard for everybody. and why is it that certain

people are like teflon and nothing sticks and other people, they do maybe if she did do this one time 30 years ago, it doesn't seem to be quite equitable. martha stewart recovered. she went to jail and has been forgiven. chris brown, we all remember what happened with rihanna. a lot of those kinds of things. and america seems to be very forgiving. i'm just surprised, like we said last week that so many of her sponsors reacted very quickly before the facts were in. >> i'm going to give my dog -- >> this is the extraordinary part. presales of her book supposed to come out in october are huge. they are through the roof because her fan base is really responding and supporting her. but now random house has decided not publish that book in october. she should self-publish and she'll probably make a ton of money that way. but the people are sticking with her. >> the thing i'm hearing more and more it wasn't the thing 23 years ago. it was the attitude of the south and the wedding and all that stuff. and i think you get it. and, but i do find it very interesting that every single person fled. and if you do look online she

>> oh, okay. what? no, no, no, no, no. >> miranda is here with us. that first one made $500 million. i wondered if there would be another one. >> yeah, it's pretty exciting they decided to make another. i just saw it for the first time recently in australia. they had the first premiere there. >> it was a worldwide hit for sure. >> doing your character, we saw that steve carell changes his voice a lot. did you have to do anything to enhance, change your voice to make it fit the character a bit more? >> i'm younger, obviously, she's like 13 in the movie. i just tried to make my voice sound a little younger and then it's obviously not such a crazy voice like what steve carell does. i thought that would be fun to do a crazy voice like that. >> you guys aren't together at all when you are doing this. you do your bit, he does his separately. is that a weird dynamic? >> it is. with animation you're just by yourself in a little booth and when you see it for the first time it's kind of a surprise to everyone.

>> you have your director there. and the producers are all around. always done by committee. they ask you to do a line like ten times a different way and that kind of thing. >> it's cool. they let you improv. do it this way three times and do whatever you want. have fun with it. so it's pretty cool. >> how much of it ended up in the movie? >> i felt like a lot of those ended up especially with the youngest little girl. she just says the cutest things all the time. everything she says is good. >> so you are in college. how do you balance that all out with your workload and your school work? >> and frat parties and all your drinking and -- >> my son just graduated. it's a dangerous place. >> not going to lie. it's really fun. i like college a lot. you need to go to football games and just having the whole college experience. >> do you have an any anonymity or do all the kids say, oh, my god, it's you. >> i didn't know a single person when i first started there. in many ways it helps me. people will come up and just

introduce themselves or be nice. so in a way it helps. >> what are you studying? >> i want to major in film. so i'm taking a lot of film classes. i really want to do screenwriting. i love steve carell and kristen wiig in the movie. >> it got one of the best schools for that in the whole world. what about your love life? dating any football players? >> i'm not dating any football players. if you know any -- >> actually, i have a 23-year-old one. but his girlfriend would kill me. >> we wish you good luck with this movie. >> thank you. >> all the best. >> stick to your ribs fourth of july feast. >> good, baby. >> we have stuff to fire up the backyard grill for your barbecue. good morning to you. i'm chris warren with your weather channel forecast. we'll really start to see a lot of rain from the southeast to the northeast. so, for the days to come, you'll see a lot of green on the forecast maps here showing where that rain is likely to happen. it's exactly what's going on here from florida to maine. a lot of rain and you'll be dealing with temperatures on the very hot side in the southwest. even the pacific northwest. you get into the 80s without air conditioning, that is hot. cooler throughout much of the midwest. even into parts of the southern plains. still wet again tomorrow.

still dealing with that rain into mid-week and likely lasting even longer than that. slowly starting to warm up in some spots in the midwest and sizzling in the southwest and warm throughout parts of the east coast. however, the rain is also going to be falling at the same time. here it is again. that same dhung of green. same area getting rain. it was a very wet june and with this rain falling in places of moist soil, flooding is going to be a big concern this week. even on the 4th of july action be outside, be careful and watch out for the lightning and heavy lane which could lead to florida. by friday, much of the northeast getting a break and southeast seeing showers and storms and from saturday from louisiana up to the ohio valley, a chance of rain. you could see a few in there and then on sunday there's going to be once again still the rain going from parts of texas all

a little something. >> it's sweet tea. >> enough. that's delicious. >> and it's delicious. >> take us through the ribs. >> we'll talk about ribs. these are loin back ribs. phenomenal. i'm going to give you quick, easy steps because barbecue can be so overwhelming to a lot of people. first thing is just take this off the back. take the membrane off. and when you do that you get lots of flavor through both sides of the rib. and then you want to put rub, which i developed this many years ago, but it is wonderfully complementary to pork. i start off with a little -- that doesn't go there just yet. >> hoda cannot wait to get down there and sink into them. >> put them on the smoker for five hours. >> five hours. low and slow is great. >> low and slow.
