b.a.r.t. stand with that union right now? >> reporter: good morning to you. jon. there are certainly signs that the strike could be coming to an end soon. unfortunately not in time for your commute today. but both sides met here in downtown oakland for nearly eight hours overnight. this is commuters getting more and more frustrated with the strike that's been going on since monday. b.a.r.t. representatives and union negotiators left the caltrans building before 3:00 in the morning overnight. no deal. but it's the first time they've sat down since the contract expired sunday with b.a.r.t.'s two largest unions about the sticking points going in were raises, health care, pension contributions. the governor's office says the labor secretary urged all parties to get back to the table with new mediators. >> we worked very hard together, both parties, along with the very fine mediators who have been assigned by the governor's office and we have been asked not speak to the press other than to make that single comment.
6:02 am
so thank you for your coverage. i wish you all a very good night. >> reporter: now one bright note in this, small one, is that b.a.r.t. reached a tentative agreement with the union representing its managers and professionals. but of course, problem there is they don't operate the trains. i've been in touch with b.a.r.t. this morning, asking if a deal is reached would workers go back on the job immediately, and the representative i spoke with said he didn't know but he did know that both sidesing expected to be back here at caltrans building at 1:00 this afternoon. live in oakland, christie smith, "today in the bay." as the strike continues for the third day in a lowe, people who would have been taking b.a.r.t. to work taking chartered buses instead. buses leave from four east bay b.a.r.t. stations and make their way into west oakland into the b.a.r.t. station there. those passengers then get off the buss, board new buss that will take them to the embarcadero station in san francisco.
