if you think about it, setting yourself up for where you want to be in september, that's key. >> is it about promoting yourself and is that what you should be doing? i know a lot of women feel uncomfortable tooting their own horn. >> but that's the motto. it's a good bumper sticker. promote yourself to get promoted. >> nice. >> yeah, good. it's between being, you know, kind of bossy and me, me, me kind of gal and holding back. somewhere in the middle. here's my best advice is go into your boss and say to them, i really want to move ahead in this organization. and i need to know what is on the docket for september. it's summer now, right? so you are thinking ahead. what is there for september that i can start to get a handle on? and that's the way to start showing that you are there. >> instead of, can i have friday off because i want to go to the beach. >> which is what everybody else is saying. >> how quick does it come, a job change or job title change.

those don't come quickly, do they? >> three months is a good amount of time. three months is enough time that you can actually take what your boss has said to you and put it into action. and you can show some resolve. it's not like saying i want to see something in a month. >> sometimes it's what you look like, how you dress, how you walk in. >> perception is reality. >> you have to beware of flip flop syndrome in the summer. you don't want to be -- i literally once had someone come in for a interview in a tube top. you don't want to be that person. >> what did you say to her? >> not you're hired. >> something other than that. >> what did you -- >> there's another way to think about flip flop. you don't want to wear flip flops in your brain either. don't put yourself to sleep and you don't want to flip flop attitude. because i've been in meetings in the summer where you look around and people are there zoning out. their bodies are there but their minds aren't, right? and you have to pull them back. >> that happens to me on a daily basis around here.

>> so no flip flops. >> once summer comes, hoda is at the beach. >> is somebody talking right now? >> a good thing to go up to your boss and make it more casual like, can we get a coffee, can we talk, something less formal than going in for an official -- >> i think so. and it's a great time network with other people. a lot of people have more free time in their schedule. maybe the kids are off to camp and can meet you for a coffee in the morning. it's a really good time to tell yourself every week i'm going to do some kind of networking. something. >> iced coffee or chai works but here's another piece of it. find someone that you don't really like, actually somebody you can't stand, and ask them to have coffee with you. >> no, indeed, silvia. >> i love you, silvia. >> i'm trying to get hoda to come to coffee with me for the longest time. what can be accomplished by that? >> oh, you'll get another point of view. and when you, do here's the secret. you have to be quiet. you don't defend, explain or

calories today. >> no, we don't have to. >> tomorrow. >> so this is our spice blend we start with. we use a dried rub of tarragon, thyme, oregano, salt, onion garlic salt, onion salt, paprika and cayenne pepper. this really is -- >> what does the parsley do? >> it's a fresh herb. i like having parsley fresh because it's pretty easy to cut and prepare. really coat that. like you don't want to see any white skin or anything. and then i pour some buttermilk over it. >> of course you do. who doesn't? >> buttermilk fried chicken. and the buttermilk, you want to marinate it overnight and it tenderizes it and lets the flavor come out. >> that baby is ready to fry up when you take it out. >> you coat it. >> it sits overnight and you see how all of the spices kind of meld together and then you dip it in flour.

>> come on. put it in that oil. i can't wait. >> now we used a free range chicken, organic flour. i feel like all those things really add up and make a difference. we use a rice spray oil which is a little harder to get for a consumer, but a really clean oil. not a peanut oil. and let it come to like a crispy texture. so probably about five minutes. and then i remove it and put it on the baking sheet with a rack. >> with waffles. of course. that's what we're known for. >> no salad. >> and our apple cider. >> kathie, you want to try a piece? >> yeah. >> putting it on here lets the oil drip off and it is crispy and not really oily. >> the sparkling wine is my favorite. >> you are the sweetest, tonya. >> happy fried chicken tomorrow. see the person in front of the camera? she is delicious and she's been with us for how many years?
