happy friday eve everybody. appreciate you joining us. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. happening in oakland, fbi agents are joining dozens of police officers in the search for 21-month-old daphne viola webb. it's been 19 hours since the little girl's father reported her missing triggering an amber alert. the father said his daughter was snatched from his car on 79th avenue near the coliseum. but his story has several twists. "today in the bay's" christie smith joins us in oakland live where the girl's father lives. >> reporter: oakland police say the father is not a suspect, but they're still spending time trying to establish the last time people saw the father and the little girl together. as you said, it's now been more than 18 hours since little daphne webb was reported missing. police and the fbi have been searching for her. they've been searching here in this neighborhood. this is where the dad stayed. there are four patrol cars out here. police tape up around the

apartment building. we have a picture of daphne viola webb, just 21 months old. her father says he drove to a supermarket in his black suv yesterday morning around 11:00 yesterday morning with ralive, most likely his 87-year-old mom in the car. little daphne in the back seat. he said he ran in quickly to get an energy drink. when he returned to the car, daphne was gone and the mom apparently can't help much with this investigation because she has dementia. an amber alert was called. at least eight law enforcement agencies searched the neighborhood and the home and spending a lot of time trying to verify what they're being told about this. >> we're providing those pictures to media in hopes that someone will be able to provide a timeline and say i saw them together on this day or this location at this time. that's part of our investigation, to be able to bring factual information and a timeline to when the two of them were last scene together.

>> reporter: oakland police also searched the martin luther king regional shoreline park near the oakland airport. there's still police tape up. they're apparently looking at areas where the father and daughter visited recently. daphne was wearing orange pajamas with pink hearts and pink socks on. police say it's possible the girl was taken by a black or hispanic woman 30 to 40 years old with a distinct feature of long black hair. i wanted to show you some more investigators showed up. it's kind of hard to see if steve can pan over, they have a dog with them this morning heading back into the apartment. again, this is where oakland police have been all night. they've been here since yesterday. within the last couple minutes, we just saw a search dog show up. oakland police telling us that's critical to this investigation. it looks like they're going back to the apartment. we'll keep an eye on this for you. as soon as we have any updates, we'll bring that information to

you. reporting live in oakland, bay." >> christie, thank you very much. following that scene, just hours later, another oakland toddler disappears when car jackers apparently stole a van he was riding in. police say the thieves approached a mother at a gas station near 42nd and foothill, climbed in the van and drove off. the woman's toddler was still in the back seat. however, those thieves apparently dropped the child off under a tree just a few blocks away fortunately unharmed. >> the people who took can car left the jackets on top of the baby so i guess they weren't trying to kill the baby or hurt the baby. it was only because of the car. >> what a terrifying scene. police still looking for the suspects and the stolen 2002 honda van. we have new video overnight showing a giant crane lifting pieces of plane wreckage off runway 28l at san francisco

international airport. you can also see the engine of the plane being carted away on the spotlight of your screen. the remains of asiana flight 214 sat on the runway since saturday's crash even while other planes take off and land on the three other runways still open at the airport. as the work goes on, the ntsb continues its investigation into exactly what went wrong. "today in the bay's" rob redell spoke to the ntsb chairman and joins us live with the details. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning, laura. with regards to the runway, last night the ntsb did release the pavement portion of the runway back to the airport so they can begin repairs on the seawall and resurface damaged portions of the runway while the ntsb still regains control of the gas see area where the aircraft sits.

that's something we might hear more about later this afternoon at a news conference at 2:00. we just spoke with the ntsb chair, debra hersman, who based her operations here at this hotel here in south san francisco. we wanted to ask her specifically about the pilot waiting 90 seconds to begin evacuation of that airplane after saturday morning's crash. she did point out to us that the front of the cabin of the airplane along with the cockpit was in relatively good shape immediately after the crash. in such good shape that to anyone who didn't realize the plane had crashed, if they were sitting inside, they would think that nothing had happened. it wasn't crumpled. there was no obvious damage. initially after the crash one of the flight attendants did knock on the cockpit door, asked the pilot if they should begin an evacuation. the pilot said no, tell the passengers to stay calm, stay in their seats while the pilot radioed his emergency into the control tower.

>> at about the same time she was issuing the public address announcement we had another flight attendant further back in the airplane who could see a fire starting on the right-hand side about row ten. he got that information relayed back up front. the evacuation began at that point. >> reporter: at that point the evacuations did begin and the plane caught fire. everyone did get out. however, we know two people did die in that accident. many people were seriously jishd. some of them still critically injured in the hospital. the pilot also reported to investigators that he was temporarily blinded by a bright light 34 seconds out from the final impact, during the final approach. this was at about 500 feet. it was not a laser he told investigators. whatever it was, a temporary blindness, but it was so temporary that after it was shown in his eyes, he was able to look back down at the instrument panel and see

everything clearly. in other words, he was implying that it did not have an impact or did not affect his performance when it came to flying that aircraft. again, there will be a news conference scheduled for 2:00 later today, the ntsb, this will be their last briefing they tell us, we believe, during their stay here in san francisco. reporting live in south san francisco, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> bob, thank you very much. quite the scene out there. we can tell you patients do remain hospitalized following that crash. san francisco general still treating eight patients this morning, two of them are children. three of those patients do remain in critical condition and mills-peninsula still treating three patients. at stanford, they say they still have two patients at their hospital, one remains in critical condition this morning. st. francis still treating one patient, and there's also one patient remaining at st. mary's. coming up at 6:15, we will continue our coverage of the asiana air crash with newly released 911 calls made on the

runway moments after the plane was evacuated. >> is there any way an ambulance can be sent? >> are you with a lot of ambulances there? >> no, they are not. we have people over here who weren't found and they're burned really badly. >> 911 calls from the passengers themselves. new details about the emergency response and why it may have taken longer for first responders from neighboring cities to even make it to sfo. it's all coming up at 6:15. >> such a different and fascinating perspective hearing those calls. weather time, let's check in with christina loren. getting close to the weekend. >> indeed we are. i can certainly taste it from here at this point. we've got a good looking weekend shaping up. last weekend it was kind of hot. this weekend, just right for all your outdoor plans. 56 in livermore, san jose, 55 for gilroy in the mid 50s just about everywhere with rain on the radar. it's actually getting a little more active. i want to widen out to show you

the overall flow. wrap-around moisture around a big ridge of high pressure that's bringing the moisture as far to the north as the san jose mountains. now we're seeing quite a bit more of these spotty cells. this is an indication of how humid it is. i think we'll see light showers in the south bay in the next few hours. low ceilings, sfo, flight delays likely again today. cooler temps this afternoon by about three to five degrees on average. it's going to be really comfortable out there. we are looking really good as we get into this all-important upcoming weekend. 85 inland. 76 bay side at the coast. 64 degrees, not too hot, not too cold. this is just about what you want in the summertime. >> this looks perfect. this is not perfect. the bay bridge toll plaza had early backup in some of the cash lanes. we now have all of the cash lanes opened. but we have metering lights turned back on. we had a backup off the incline

difficult match the death was likely the result of a domestic problem. more help is coming for families and teachers of those killed in the shooting in newtown connecticut. a committee is set to meet with each of their needs and divide the money among those families. happening right now, the wreckage of asiana flight 214 being removed from runway 28l at san francisco international. that's where it has sat since saturday's major crash out there. this morning we're learning more information about all that chaos on the runway in the moments after that plane went down. "today in the bay's" marla tellez live in burlingame overlooking that runway. marla, those 911 tapes just released now raising concerns about the response times out on the runway. >> reporter: jon, good morning. no doubt about it. the overwhelming theme in these 911 tapes is that help was not arriving fast enough. one caller saying, sure, fire trucks are on scene, but not one

ambulance had arrived after time had passed. this woman trying to keep a fellow passenger alive on her very own. >> we just got in a plane crash and there are a bunch of people who still need help and there are not enough medics out here that need help. there is a woman on the street, on the runway who is pretty much burned very severely on the head and we don't know what to do. >> we do have help started that way. you say they're there but not enough people, correct? >> yes. she is severely burned. she will probably die soon if we don't get help. >> reporter: tough to listen to. we can't tell you the outcome of this particular situation. we can tell you some survivors saying they waited in their estimation about 40 minutes for emergency medical attention. one issue that medics may have had to deal with was the traffic outside sfo. take a look at this video shot by our producer caitlin who just happened to be near the scene at the time of saturday's crash.

it shows traffic at a crawl along 101 outside the airport. could this have slowed response time in that is something we're looking into. new photos into our newsroom from survivor ben levy. he's the san francisco man who walked away from the crash basically unhurt, one of the 123 passengers who were not hurt. he snapped these pictures. you can see passengers idly standing by as they watched the plane burned. also a look at one of the triage areas crews set up. all morning long i've been sifting through the transcripts of these 911 calls. it's fascinating to read. it's unbelievable what these people went through. there's ten-plus minutes worth of 911 calls. we are going to continue to bring you more clips. it's amazing to even hear from passengers who actually remained calm. how they did that, i'll never understand that. hats off to them. we'll have more clips coming up in my last report at 6:53. for now, live in burlingame,

marla tellez, "today in the bay." >> so many people out there thinking on their feet, trying to help out. marla, thank you very much. lots to sort through as that investigation continues. stay with "today in the bay" all morning long for coverage of the asiana aircraft and you can get in-depth coverage on nbcbayarea.com. let's dive into the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. >> good morning to you. 6:18 now. the weather has been great. we're going to continue to see those beautiful conditions. i can tell you right now there is a lot of fog out there. we will likely see delays out of sfo at least for the next few hours with the low ceilings in place. it's the natural coolant that's going the keep temperatures from soaring today. we've got an interesting setup to show you. 55 in gilroy. 59 in san jose. we want to draw your attention to the lighter green over the western facing slopes in san jose. we had rain-cooled air move through there. all the moisture is creeping up from southern california into

the bay area. for us today, we had some thunderstorms. i think we'll see a few more. as we head throughout the morning hours, we'll continue to track those for you. every 15 minutes throughout the "today" show. here is the overall setup. moisture is coming from from the south. we an area of low pressure competing against it coming from the north. that will keep temperatures nice and cool at the coast, keep the fog in place, at least until 11:00, maybe until 1:00 p.m. we're talking about a really nice sunny finish to the day even at the beach. 69 degrees at 4:00 p.m. if you want to get down to santa cruz. beautiful conditions there. 86 in livermore. not even going to be that bad inland today. 85 in fairfield, 83 for concord and 63 in san francisco. here it is, the all-important weekend. temperatures will stay steady. you can catch the giants here on nbc on saturday. on sunday, that's a great day to hit the beach as temperatures creep up just a touch. let's check the drive that's always creeping up just about now. >> i saw wednesday, end of the

seven-day there was a 90 on there. i'm a little disappointed. the tri-valley, this area disappointing for folks making good time on westbound 580, we had a crash at hopyard that wasn't a problem. this is the issue. we see the backup, 84 will get much more heavy as we have the folks backed up through livermore. the accident is on the eastbound side, countercommute, but at the center divide. so much of a distraction that we have these folks slowing down approaching hacienda. folks will ripple down toward 84 and head toward 680 which is now fighting against the slowdown as well. right there, southbound 680 before you get to highway 84. your sunol off-ramp, basically we have another crash reported and that may still be in lanes. that could be a big issue for both of those routes heading in through and into sunol. we track meanwhile the rest of the traffic south of there. it's a smooth flow for the south bay. here is 101, 87, all green at the limit. that's great for 6:20 in the

morning. we expect the second burst to hit the northbound 101 about now. we typically have later commutes building in the summer. 101 a nice flow, here is northbound past willow and up north of palo alto into redwood city. the volume holding steady. what you'd expect through palo alto. we have a smooth flow of traffic into and out of the city as well from the peninsula. from the bay bridge site, we have a smooth drive right now. i have tracked along this incline flashing lights that head to the s curve. i couldn't see because of obstructions and because of the low clouds. we have reports of a crash heading up toward the treasure island area. the flashing lights were just arriving. i'll get the update from chp and make another call after i get off the screen here. >> we're watching the changing conditions and fog on the golden gate bridge over the morning.

response times. we will keep you posted on that. it is 6:25. the death toll continues to rise this morning. officials in quebec say 30 people still missing after the fiery crash and explosion of a runaway oil tanker train are now presumed dead. 20 more bodies were recovered from the wreckage bringing the number killed to 50. coroner says only one person has been identified. the ceo of the company who operated the train is blaming the train's engineer for improperly setting the brakes. more drama this morning surrounding nsa leaker edward snowden. it appears venezuela is the lukely choice for asylum. but he hasn't formally accepted their offer. if he does, he has to find a way to get there as many u.s. allies will deny air space. snowden is still believed to be

ring in the bell on wall street. we'll be watching the numbers to see how things jumped on this thursday, july 11. this is "today in the bay." happy thursday morning everybody. good to see you. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. the search is on this morning for a missing oakland girl, and now the fbi is involved. 21-month-old daphne viola webb disappeared yesterday morning. her father, john webb, says she was ab ducked from his car at 79th avenue near the coliseum. he told police he left the girl in the car with her grandmother while he went inside a market. when he returned, his daughter was gone. the girl's grandmother could not help because police say she has dementia. investigators turned their focus to john webb's home where the girl lives in the oak knowles area. police say they questioned webb

but haven't listed him as a suspect. the mek kaj of asiana flight 214 being removed from runway 28l at san francisco international airport. we can tell you the remains of asiana flight 214 have sat out there since saturday's crash, even while other planes take off and land from three other runways still open at the airport. we have new video from overnight showing a giant crane out there lifting pieces of that wreckage off of runway 28l. you can see also out there the engine of that plane being carted away from the spotlight right there on your screen. the ntsb telling us some of that wreckage will stay right here in the bay area while other pieces of the debris will be sent to washington. right now we'll take another live look at the wreckage. bob redell talked to the ntsb chairman early this morning and we'll have new details on that investigation coming up at 6:45. we are also keeping tabs on your morning commute this

morning. mike right now has a look at the roadways out there. >> looking at sunol right now. normally i want to show you the low clouds and they are there, but not a problem for drivers. look at 680, a smooth flow right now. as we look at the maps coming into the area, south 680 may have an issue just before it gets into camera range. there's a crash reported. now it sounds like everything is off to the shoulder. you see a little slowing south through sunol approaching highway 84. this is about the time when we see that burst of traffic coming out of men san ton as well. that's not a good time for anything to be happening there. things are held up back over here. look at this, all this jamming from west 580, big backup as well. we have slowing westbound as you're coming toward hacienda. eastbound is where we had the crash that has /xcleared. but look at westbound, dragging all the way to spring town where there's a new crash, and actually starting at vasco, rippling back there. highway 84, we'll see more traffic as folks try to bail on

580 westbound. this is mess messing up the tri-valley. that will result in an unusual flow of traffic, a late burst coming through pleasanton. we're looking toward the incline of the bay bridge. from our echlry ville camera, things are looking smoother now. over the last ten minutes, since our last report, we had the crash on the incline. the crew went out and cleared that quickly. it's moving smoothly at the incline. the backup at the toll plaza is worse. we have the low clouds around there. christina that means for a cooler start, it may be issues. how is the day shaping um? >> looking good, mike. we're in the upper 50s to low 60s. we have humidity and actually getting shower activity as far to the north as the bay bridge this morning. overall we're looking good today. temperatures will be comfortable, 78 degrees for san jose, 75 in fremont and 63 in san francisco. we'll take a look at your seven

day outlook in a few moments. right now back to you, jon and laura. >> thank you, christina. two cyclists are recovering after colliding with a car in newark. police say the crash happened at the intersection of newark boulevard and ruschin drive. there were injuries but it's not sure how serious they are. the roads finally reopened about 1:00 this morning. right now, we want to give you an nbc bay area followup. fremont police say they caught up with man suspected of stealing a package off somebody's front pour. you see surveillance video from last month recorded of this incident. police say they were able to use that footage to get a license plate number. they then traced that to the car owned by this man, 27-year-old aldama. police say he is a transient and his last known address was in san jose. officers arrested him in milpitas yesterday. he is now in the santa rita jail. it is 6:34. still ahead, the private life of

"today in the bay's" christie smith joining us live in oakland outside the home where the girl's father lives. it's early but you've seen a lot of action out there. >> reporter: quite a bit of action. this is the apartment where the father stayed with the little girl who is now missing. police are careful not calling him a suspect at all. i want to let you know what's been going on within the last 15 minutes or so. all four police cars stationed here suddenly pulled out. also a sheriff's deputy left, too. this right after two police dogs showed up at the apartment and seemed to be focusing on an up fairs unit. they were here for about 15 minutes. the officers did not say specifically what they were looking for. john webb says yesterday morning about 11:00 a.m. he drove to 79th and international, went to a convenience store. when he returned, his daughter was simply gone from the car. his mom could not help. she has dementia. that set off a huge search.

an amber alert was issued. the fbi got involved. police say now they're trying to verify what they're being told and find witnesses who recently saw the dad and little girl together. >> we have a 21-month-old little girl who at this time we're categorizing as a kidnapping. and we'll stay with that until the vax turns us in a different direction. the family has been very cooperative with us. right now we want to factize and finalize timelines and locations. >> reporter: police also searched the martin luther king regional park over near the oakland airport. there's still police tape up there this morning. they're looking at areas where webb and his daughter may have visited yesterday. a possible suspect was spotted near that store carrying a small child also wearing orange

pajamas. that woman described as african-american or hispanic, 30 to 40 years old with long dark hair. police say at this point no new developments but they will be available to speak with us after 8:00 this morning. reporting live from oakland, christie smith, "today in the bay." two car jackers on the loose after stealing a van in oakland with a toddler inside. police say the thieves approached a mother at a gas station near 42nd and foothill, climbed into a van and drove off. the woman's toddler was in the back seat. the thieves apparently dropped the child off a few blocks away unarmed. police are looking for the suspects and the stolen 2002 honda van. time to get another check on the weather as we give you a live look outside from the south bay. that is san jose. you can see some low hanging clouds out there, a little fog. christina loren is back to tell us if the temperatures are starting to feel more seasonal and normal. a lot of action out there.

>> thunderstorms coming in right now which is nice. gives me something to talk about. you're probably starting to think about the weekend at this point. good news is the weather will hold up and we'll be done with the humidity and the thunderstorms as we head throughout the weekend. so let's take you through it, 59 degrees to start right here in the south bay. temperatures close to 60 just about everywhere. we have pockets of cooler air up in the north bay in the low 50s and santa rosa, for instance. kind of want to show you the wide view. look at all the shower or thunderstorm activity moving into southern california. a lot of this is going to stay to our south. we are noticing these spotty cells developing and moving the the north. this morning you might have to use your windshield wipers. this is definitely and indication of how muggy it is out there. high pressure to our south pulling in the monsoonal moisture. we have an area of low pressure coming in from the north. the two are competing against each other. that will add to the micro climate differentiation we typically see. cool foggy conditiontion at the coastline. warm sun inland for today. and temperatures that you want

this time of year. 86 degrees in livermore, 75 for fremont, 78 in los gatos. that means no ac necessary. we'll hold on to these beautiful conditions all the way through this upcoming weekend only hitting the upper 80s by saturday. 89 for sunday. upper 80s continue as we head through monday and tuesday. i use that word upper a lot. i'll switch it up, high 80s come monday into tuesday. let's check the drive with mike. >> just say it. close to 90. you know i don't like 90. i don't like this either, folks. this just came in from chp. they just arrived on scene. i'm very concerned south 880 as you're approaching lieu ellen boulevard. in the backup already forming into hayward, we have reports of a motorcycle and rider down. chp just arrived on scene and are assessing the rider. we have the two lanes blocked right now. your two left lanes, expect big slowing which has cropped up in

the last few minutes. very slow from marina through san leandro approaching hayward. that will also affect folks coming north 238 and out of the tri-valley. this is a horrible point of the traffic flow during a horrible point of the day. we never like to hear about motorcycle accidents there. there's a lot of possibility for injury. eastbound 580 we had three crashes in the area through dublin. the worst impact was east 580 at hacienda. that crash moved to the shoulder from the center divide. no longer a distraction from the westbound direction. we see traffic recovering over at the scene. we already have the backup forming. now we have the backup coming out of the altamont pass into livermore. it has calmed down over the last few minutes. be careful. we had activity around the sunol off-ramp as well. it sonds like that crash has been cleared from the area. in fremont, a live camera shows

the traffic volume holding steady over the last ten minutes. however, that crash in san leandro holding a lot of folks up across the san mateo bridge. keep that in mind if you're heading across the bay as well. on the maps we see slowing coming into the area. there's the crash reported for the tri-valley. there's the slowing we saw coming into fremont. they expect it to build as you head toward mission boulevard and the rest of the south bay moves nicely. we now finally have the slowdown, the burst a little late. speeds into the upper 50s at their worse. 85 showing the sudden burst heading towards saratoga and lawrence. we're going to end with a live shot out there. we look at the east bay and the eastshore freeway westbound moving smoothly. you just have speeds into the upper 50s through richmond. back to you. thank you very much. we have new video overnight showing a giant crane lifting pieces of plane wreckage off runway 28l at san francisco

international airport. you can also see the engine of the plane being carted away on the spotlight there of your screen. the remains of asiana flight 214 sat on the runway since saturday's crash even while other planes take off and land from three other runways still open at the airport. as that work goes on, the ntsb continues its investigation into exactly what went wrong. "today in the bay's" bob redell spoke to the ntsb chairman. he joins us live in south san francisco with new details. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning, laura. we spoke with the ntsb chairman who has her operations headquarters at this hotel in south san francisco, specifically trying to get a better sense of why that pilot waited 90 seconds before ordering the evacuation of asiana flight 214. just after it crashed saturday morning, a flight attendant knocked on the cockpit door, asked the pilot if they should start evacuating the aircraft. he said no, tell the passengers to stay calm and in their seats. it wasn't until another flight

attendant notified them that a fire was starting outside the window around row 10 that he ended up ordering the evacuation of the airplane. the ntsb said the pilot might not have initially realized how serious this crash had been, hence the delay in ordering the evacuation. >> people seated in the back had a very different experience with respect to the crash forces and the damage that was in their compartment. the front of the aircraft has been described as undamaged, that they could have -- if you didn't know this was a crashed airplane, the interior of the cabin looked like any other airplane. but it was very different in the back. >> reporter: the pilot also reported a bright light temporarily blinded him, 34 seconds before the crash. he said it wasn't a laser and whatever it was didn't affect him for more than a brief moment. when he looked back down, he had

no trouble seeing the controls and the instrument panel. taking a live look at the crash scene itself, you're looking at runway 28l at sfo. the ntsb has released this runway back to the airport so they can begin repairing the seawall and fixing the runway itself. when the ntsb releases the grassy area, that 777 will be taken to storage. a news conference later this afternoon at 2:00. reporting live in south san francisco, bob redell, "today in the bay." as you might expect, there are patients still hospitalized following this crash. san francisco general still treating eight patients this morning, two of which are children. three of those patients right now remain in critical condition. mills-peninsula still treating three patients. stanford university telling us they have two patients in their hospital, one of those remaining in critical condition this

morning. st. francis still treating one patient, and there's also one patient remaining at st. mary's. this morning we're learning more about the chaos in the runway in the moments after that plane went down. "today in the bay's" marla tellez in burlingame overlooking the crash scene. the 911 tapes raising concerns about response times on the runway. >> reporter: laura, that's right. you hear it loud and clear, response time definitely an issue for many of these passengers. before we get to these frustrated callers, i wanted you to listen to what i pointed out in my last report, some of these passengers managed to remain calm. i don't know how they did, but they did. take a listen to this guy. >> i'm at the san francisco airport and our airplane just crashed upon landing, and i think we need somesui medics -- >> hats off to him for keeping his cool. at the other end of the spectrum there are the more frantic

callers, these people that were upset that help didn't arrive as fast as it should have been. this woman, you can sense her frustration as she tries to keep a fellow passenger from dieing. >> there's been a crash at san francisco airport. there are people injured on the tarmac, seriously injured. there are no ambulances. >> ma'am, ma'am, we have reports of it. we're aware of the situation. >> there are no ambulances here. we've been on the ground 20 minutes. critical injuries. hello? >> yes. i'm still here. >> were you on the plane ma'am? >> yes, i was on the plane. we've been on the ground, i don't know, 20 minutes or a half hour. there are people laying on the tarmac with critical injuries, head injuries. we're almost losing a woman here. we're trying to keep her alive. >> reporter: that woman reporting they were still waiting for help 20 to 30 minutes out after the landing. we heard from survivors who say they waited 40 minutes to get any sort of medical attention.

to san jose's 26th homicide of the year. police arresting 25-year-old matthew jacobson in connection with a deadly stabbing early yesterday morning. police found 37-year-old christopher bowman with stab wounds at a homeless shelter on julian street, a few blocks from the dear done station. investigators don't believe it was gang related. we could find out the name of a person killed at a massive fire at a redwood city apartment complex. the six-alarm fire started at the hallmark house apartments onned with ciderly sunday morning. when firefighters finally put out the flames, they found the body inside the building. here is a new angle. experts saying to delay the opening of the bay bridge because it may put the public safety at risk. engineers say the old bridge is just not safe enough in the event of an earthquake, so that new eastern span should be

opened up as soon as possible. they have come up with a temporary fix for the broken bolts that could have that span ready to open by labor day. here is how they're planning to do it. they're proposing insert ng wedges into the areas of the broken bolts to stabilize them. bridge officials at this point say they're considering the idea, but they say it is a concept, not a solution. under the updated plan, the span will be opened up in mid december at the earliest. earlier in morning, checking the span of the bay bridge you couldn't see the top because of the fog. let's check the current conditions with "ifñchristina. >> i like the moves you were doing. you have a career in meteorology. we have active weather right now on the radar. most of the shower activity well to our south. but these little stray cells are sneaking up from time to time. we're going to keep tracking that for you all the way throughout the "today" show as long as that moisture continues to pump into the bay area. highs today are going to be
