bieber to the shark thing? >> it's all part of the wrap. we do want to begin this morning in florida. second day of deliberations for the george zimmerman jury. kerry sanders is in sanford, florida, this morning. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, lester. the jury dleliberation, six women, all mothers with ab big responsibility determining whether george zimmerman acted in self-defense or committed a crime when he shot and killed 17-year-old trayvon martin: george zimmerman's defense lawyer's closing argument was in sharp contrast to the lead prosecu prosecutor. >> because he's got a gone. he's got the equalizer. >> starting now. >> reporter: mark o'mara used silence. saying nothing for four minutes to demonstrate how long the defense says 17-year-old trayvon martin had to plan to confront george zimmerman. >> for four minutes, trayvon

martin could do something that led to his confronting george zimmerman. >> reporter: the defense team played an animation for the jury, demonstrating what they say happened the february night zimmerman and martin met. prosecutors called the video a cartoon and said it was only two minutes, not four, that martin had to decide how to handle the situation. >> we know that with the opportunity to go home, that he did not. >> reporter: the night he died, trayvon martin was returning from a local 7-eleven. zimmerman says martin attacked him and they fought. the neighborhood watch volunteer says the teenager repeatedly slammed his head into the sidewalk. >> that's cement. that is the sidewalk, and that is not an unarmed teenager with nothing but skittles trying to get home. >> reporter: prosecutors got the last word.

>> it's heavy, it's hard. if his head had been slammed into something like this, slammed, barbed, over and over, he wouldn't look like he did in those photographs. >> reporter: repeatedly calling 17-year-old trayvon martin a child, the prosecutor asked the jury to consider the evidence. >> this isn't a complicated case. it's a common sense case, and it's not a case about self-defense. it's a case about self-denial, george zimmerman. >> reporter: george zimmerman has pled not guilty. he said he acted in self-defense. now, the jury here has no time limit on reaching a verdict. their options are guilty of second degree murder, guilty of manslaughter or not guilty. lester? >> kerry sanders, thanks. lisa bloom is "today's" legal analyst. good morning.

>> good morning. >> anybody whose been on a jury knows you get two types, let's vote now or -- >> i think it's an indication they'll go through methodically piece by piece. they wanted the index and they got it. >> when you look at the closing arguments here, the defense is very dramatic. we saw it bits of it in kerry's piece, the four minutes of silence and the concrete slab, indicating it could have been a weapon for trayvon martin. how effective was the defense? >> a lot of visual aids, a big hunk of concrete. i thought it was a good closing argument. he really hammered unreasonable doubt, clearly the defense's strongest argument. a lot of people in social media was saying he was arrogant. i didn't see it but i watched it the third time or the fourth time, i started to see that a little bit. he was asking for a quick verdict. he seemed to even be saying that he wanted them to write "innocent" at the bottom of the jury form. they didn't come back yesterday, so he didn't get that quick

verdict, but we'll see if he gets his acquittal. >> one of the issues on this was who was on top in this fight. it seemed that the prosecution seemed to concede, okay, trayvon martin might have been on top. they went back to this question of could george zimmerman have reached for his gun. who came out ahead on that whole issue? >> i thought the prosecution misstepped with going with the defense script and seeming to concede that's what was going on that george zimmerman was on the bottom, trayvon martin was on the top, ground and pound, mma style. i think if the jury believes that, they'll think it's reasonable and he pulled the gun defending himself. there were witnesses that say george zimmerman was on top. neighbors who looked out, a lot of it was hazy and confused. there was also some testimony about two men running, being obviously in an upright position. the prosecution didn't have a coherent theory of the case in closing arguments. the defense did. we'll see if that helps them.

>> you say the prosecution didn't have a coherent theory. does that mean reasonable doubt? >> that's what the defense hammered. when you hear could have, should have, would have, maybe, it's possible. those are words you usually hear from the defense. the prosecution usually says it's a certainty, it is definitive, this is what happened, look at this witness testimony. we didn't hear that from the prosecution in closing arguments. >> lisa bloom, thank you very much. new this morning, the texas senate passed tough anti-abortion restrictions overnight after weeks of protests and rallies. charles hadlock is in washington with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, erica. the republican-led texas senate passed a controversial abortion bill last night with all but one democrat voting against it. thousands of pro choice demonstrators swarmed the texas capitol last night as the senate debated late into the night. several spectators in the senate gallery tried to disrupt the

proceedings. state troopers confiscated tampons and bottles of urine and fee tease. one woman chained herself to the bras banister and it was delayed until they could cut her loose. state senator wendy davis who led a filibuster said democrats will vow to fight this measure in the courts and the ballot box. the bills restrict abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy and requires abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the abortion clinic. it requires the clinic to be upgraded to an ambulatoriry surgical center. supporters of the bill say legal abortion started in texas and they hope that one day it will end here. texas governor rick perry says he will sign the bill perhaps as early as next week. erica, back to you. >> charles hadlock in austin this morning. thank you. we have an update on the trash of asiana flight 214. the death toll has now increased to three people after a girl

died on friday. the wreckage of the plane has been hauled away and the runway where it crashed is open for takeoffs and landings once again this morning. meantime, a major embarrassment for a san francisco tv station and the ntsb. the station was tricked into airing a racially insensitive report about the crash, specifically identifying the crew members on the plane. and the ntsb is admitting this morning that it is its fault. some of what you're about to hear contains very offensive language. here is michelle franzen. >> reporter: it all started as a late breaking development, in ktvu's noon broadcast. >> we just learned the names of the four pilots on board the flight. they are captain sum tinge wong, wi tu lo, ho lee [ bleep ] and bang ding ow. ntsb confirmed these are the names of the pilots. >> the offensive names and the

obvious hoax spread quickly o on the internet and within minutes the station realized the racially offensive error and apologized. >> we apologize for this error. >> reporter: but also cited they had con confirmed by the ntsb. >> we made a mistake. >> reporter: late friday the agency released its own statements and said a summer intern acted outside the scope of his authority when he erroneously confirmed the names. the ntsb said actions would be taken to make sure such a serious error is not repeated. >> captain sum tinge wong. >> reporter: the station also followed up saying it should have asked for the person's title at the ntsb as well as reading the names out loud before going to air. >> we accept full responsibility for this mistake. >> reporter: for "today," michelle franzen, ntsb new york. >> i'm left wanting to say ouch. >> that's a tough one. let's get the rest of the

morning's other stories including a dramatic rescue overnight in indiana. >> jenna wolfe has more on that. >> this was scary. a 6-year-old boy is in the hospital this morning after he was trapped for hours buried under 11 feet of sand. it took emergency crews more than three hours to dig out the boy who fell three stories down into a dune along lake michigan in indiana. officials have not released his condition. one person on the scene said the boy did have vital signs. no other word this morning on his condition. ariel castro, the man accused of kidnapping three cleveland women and holding them hostage for more than a decade is facing hundreds of new charges this morning. there are now almost 1,000 counts against him, that after a grand jury indicted castro on 600 additional charges on friday, one of those, aggravated murder for the death of an unborn child belonging to one of the women. authorities in france are looking into a problem with the switching system in friday's train crash that killed at least six people. the train derailed right outside

of paris during the start of a busy holiday weekend celebrating bastille day. a huge friday was declared malala day in her honor. finally, if you have children and you give them candy on friday and you tell them to just hold it and not eat it until monday, pretty unlikely, right? now you know how walmart feels. here is why. hostess is rolling out twinkies again. they asked all the stores that were selling them to wait until monday so no retailer had exclusivity. hostess gives walmart twinkies and says hold these until monday. walmart was like, what? they started selling them yesterday. in case you're wondering, 4,000 stores should have them by this

with russian president vladimir putin about snowden. white house officials said both leaders noted the importance of the relationship between united states and russia, still it is a tense time. american fugitive edward snowden hiked out of a mass cow airport for another day, the move straining relations between the united states and russia which is already fraught with tensions dating back to the cold war. >> snowden has fallen into the midst of a relationship that has been trying to get itself onto another footing again. this couldn't really have happened at a worse moment. >> reporter: this after snowden, the man behind the nsa security leak surfaced on friday for the first time in three weeks from the airport, heard here defending his actions after meeting with human rights groups. >> i did not seek to enrich myself. i did not seek to sell u.s. secrets. i did not partner with any foreign government to guarantee my safety. >> reporter: snowden has asked russia to temporarily grant him asylum until he can travel

world are watching and waiting for kate to go into labor. it could be any moment now. the first time mom, it wouldn't be unusual for her to go past her due date. if it drags on too long, doctors will induce her. >> the average time, 41 and 42 weeks. it's a week or two past the due date if there are no medical complications. by about ten days time, she will be induced. >> reporter: ten days may seem like a long time for the princess given that london is going through a heat wave and nine months pregnant, she may be getting uncomfortable in 80 degree weather. the reason is simple. it's harder for heavily pregnant women to cool down. interest in the royal baby is only heating up. >> it's exciting. my friends have gotten married and having children.

on chicago's lakefront where sandy beaches dotted with sun bathers stretch out beneath the shadows of skyscrapers, long and ex-fan sive water that might make you forget you're in the northwest. >> i've met random people that have come here, and they say this is amazing, i've never known chicago has a beach. >> reporter: move over miami. it has beach volleyball, too. >> pretty much full every day after 4:30. >> reporter: chicago's summer playground extends out onto the lake itself. the city boasts some 5,000 berthing spaces for sail boats. >> you near a different world when you step on a boat. within five minutes of parking your car, you can be on the lake. >> reporter: chicago sailing in belmont harbor, just ten minutes from downtown, the owners introduce me to the fun of sailing. >> okay, lester. go ahead.
