city this morning at low clouds and fog up farther north and what can we expect all around the bay? i have the answer for that or at least he does. i'm kris sanchez along with our meteorologist rob maeda. >> well, we have some moisture making its way on to the map, but higher up, it is warmer into the hills. 60s in the hills, but the marine area is keeping it cool around the bay. and it is west of the golden gate and by 8:00, the clouds fill back in, and plan on the 60s around san francisco and 70s in oakland and 80s in san jose and low 90s inland today. but the low clouds are the story, and by the end of the weekend we will be looking at tropical moisture that could kick off scattered showers earlier next week and we will talk about that coming up in a few minutes.

okay. thank you, rob. one year ago today, a gunman opened up fire in a movie theater killing 12 people, and injuring 78 others. this morning people gather ed i aurora to honor those and there was a moment of silence for 82 seconds, one second for every victim. yesterday, volunteers ran read the more than 125 people killed in gun violence since the sandy hook tragedy. >> the shoots like the ones in aurora and new town opened up the country's eyes to the fact that we have a serious problem with gun violence in america. >> the suspect in the shooting james holmes goes on trial next february. he has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. this morning, investigators in texas are trying to figure out how a woman fell to her death while riding a roller coaster. she was riding the roller coast

er in texas at the six flags theme park yesterday. witnesses saw her fall from the ride just after 6:30. >> when it pulled up, the daughter and the son of the lady who flew out of the car were hysterical and they were saying that their mother flew out of the car, and the people working there didn't know what to do, and they were asking them to let them out, and they didn't let them out for a while and the guys sitting behind the lady said that right when they came down off of the first bump and hit that first turn she flew out. >> the texas giant first opened in 1990 and then underwent a $10 million makeover ten years ago which made the ride higher and faster. that ride is now shutdown for the investigation. protests over the verdict in the murder trial of george zimmerman are expected to continue today in 100 cities across the country including here in bay area. in about an hour and a half a vigil and rally are planned for

san francisco's federal building and similar event planned for oakland's federal building this afternoon. last night about 250 protesters gathered at franklin plaza before marching to the the fruitvail b.a.r.t. station and many voicing angry over the not guilty verdict in the killing of trayvon martin and in what they say is a pattern of police targeting young black men. those who spoke called for peaceful demonstrations after the protests over the past weekend ended in violence and vandali vandalism. the oakland police were out in force making their presence known and they report no problems overnight to us this morning. police say they are using every strategy they can think of to keep the city safe this weekend and that includes calling in help from surrounding agencies. >> everybody is on duty, and all days off were canceled an all hands on deck were here. if you want to march, and if you want to protest, and have

freedom of speech, you can come to oakland and certainly do that, but if you come here to break the law and participate in crime, we will arrest you. >> the department was heavily criticized after the chief admitted that the department was not prepared for the protests last weekend after the verdict was read. president obama made a surprise appearance in the white house briefing room to address the shooting of trayvon martin. it is the first time he has spoken at length about the verdict, and what he had to say was very personal. here is today in the bay's janelle wang. >> when trayvon martin was first shot i said that this could have been my son. another way of saying that is that trayvon martin could have been me 35 years ago. >> reporter: president obama spoke out for the first time since a jury found george s zimmerman not guilty last weekend of murdering trayvon martin. he said he understood why the verdict is sparking outrage especially in the african-american communities.

>> the african-american community is looking at this issue through a set of experiences and a history that doesn't go away. >> president obama says that the country has taken big steps toward racial equality and acknowledges that racial profiling still exists, and he, too, has been on the other end of that. >> there are very few african-american men in this country who have not had the experience of being followed when they were shopping in a department store. that includes me. there are very few african-american men who have not had the experience of walking across the street and hearing the locks click on the doors of cars. that happened to me at least before i was a senator. >> reporter: the president did not give his opinion on the verdict, but he did say that the jury has spoken and they were properly instructed on the laws and that is how the system works, but the president did ask

if state laws including state your ground should be re-exam e re-examin re-examined. more now on the president's comments and trayvon martin's parents issued a written statement saying that quote, we are deeply honored that president obama took the time to speak publicly and at length about our son trayvon. the president's comments give us great strength at this time. new details this morning on a deadly crash involving several cars and motorcycle in the south bay. witnesses say they saw two cars racing down south white road before 10:00 last night at mount vista drive. at some point, police say, they lost control and smashed into a motorcyclist who is killed and another person who was taken to the hospital. the cars ended up in the front yards of homes and several streets in the area were shutdown overnight during that investigati investigation. also in san jose, fire crews trying to figure out what caused a fire that damaged two homes near middlebrook elementary

school, and that fire started last night before 6:30 on link's road, and at some point a gas rupture caused the fire to spread through the two homes very quickly. >> we have absolutely no idea as to the cause and the origin. we agree that the fire started on this structure and moved laterally, but the gas meter broke, and we are not sure how that happened either. >> officials say it appeared that the fire officials say that it happened outside of the homes and more than a dozen children were forced out of their homes. this morning a child continues to recover after he was bitten by a rattlesnake in the east bay and it happened in a field around blackhawk thursday. san ramon firefighters rushed the child to the hospital for treatment, and he is said to be recovering well this morning. rattlesnakes become more visible as the weather heats up. first responders say to avoid

stratosphere hotel in las vegas and some of the taller hotels are getting the multiple strikes overnight, and having the thunderstorms to cause some localized flooding in las vegas now moving into southern california and maybe some good news around the fire burning in the plains. but we could see the changes as far away as las vegas. no tropical clouds, but the mist and the drizzle, but by this time tomorrow, central california will be closer to the central coast and by tomorrow night and monday, some of the high and mid-level moisture will stream to the bay aer rea. for now, the low clouds and staying that way from oakland to haywood to 9:00, and to the west of the golden gates to lunchtime and then in the evening the clouds will start to thicken back up and spill inland by 7:00 and 8:00 and 9:00. so for the giants' game coming up after 6:00, it is sweater weather again as the

temperatures near game time should be near 60. 80 in san jose, and 70s in further north around the bay in haywood and alameda 65, and 85 in castro valley and then dublin and pleasanton and danville and a lamo to the north, those are the temperatures that we will see. 6 60s in san francisco, and 70s in oakland and near berkeley today. low clouds and mist are the story of to morning and we will see it again tomorrow. we will toss in some extra high clouds and partly cloudy skies and tropical clouds th s thas t include isolated showers to watch this time of the year, as what happens in vegas does not always stay in vegas, and tries the comto the bay area. we will watch that sunday night into nonday and t inmonday and temperatures are cooling off and we don't need lightning danger to increase

oakland. if you are not headed to those protests and demonstrations, then now you know that you can steer clear. well, if you lose your dog, don't worry, there is an app for that. facial recognition technology has arrived in the doghouse, and while the technology may be cute, our business and tech reporter scott budman shows us that it can also be life saving. >> they might be wrinkly, and they are probably affectionate, and they are furry and cute. they are your dog. if they ever get lost, well, there's an app for that. finding rover, a piece of face recognition technology that will help reunite dogs and their owner. >> i remember the dog we lost and how traumatic it was for the kids driving down the neighborhood and putting up the posters and trying to find our dog. i thought there must be a better way. >> reporter: finding rover is an easy to use app that along with dog tags and microchips can help your pet if it is lost.

if it gets out during fireworks or a lightning storm or thunderstorm? >> well, absolutely. lost pets is a huge problem in our country, and the shelters are filled with lost pets everyday. that is awesome the facial recognition is something that really wonderful that we can look forward to. right now, we have been using microchips for a number of years. it is not expensive and most of the shelters know that any time an animal comes in, they do scan them, but you have to make sure that you register the information with the chip. any time you move or change a phone number or anything like that, let the microchip company know and the shelter know where you adopted the dog or if you had a microchip inserted at your vet, let them know as well. >> all right. we have to let bailey get to sleep. thank you very much, lisa, and thank you for the advice. bailey, you are so cute. thank you for joining us this morning and we hop you will make us a part of your morning
