there's no way to slow down the good vibrations when you say that together. >> we kind of seem to like fridays around here. >> i love fridays. that's what we do around here. good morning everybody. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. let's get to the friday morning forecast with christina loren. >> good morning laura and jon. good morning to you at home. temperatures this morning are pretty crisp and we are headed towards a cooler day and a beautiful weekend. so much happening across the bay area. we've got the garlic festival, the giants are in town. we have your forecast for all the hot tickets around the bay area. first want to check your drive on a friday. good morning, mike. >> you mentioned two other big events. we'll talk about that later on. we're looking at the bay bridge toll plaza where we current sli a backup. that's one of the lanes which is closed that's causing the backup off that 880 overpass. looking at a smooth light drive if you look at the maps.

overnight construction takes two lanes or one lane overnight through the rest of the month and actually into august for the crews there. a smooth drive over the upper deck and lower deck. three of the five lanes are closed. typical road work there. >> in the north bay we have a crash involving a big rig with a trailer, highway 37 at 29. roadway is open, but slow past the scene because of all the activity. they have to get the trailer back on its way before the morning commute. we'll send it back to you. >> thanks, mike. city leaders in oakland this morning holding a news conference at the very site where a 66-year-old woman was gunned down earlier this week. julie solomon died driving her car blocks from her east oakland home. while investigators try to find out if she tried to die in a gut battle or in a robbery that went bad, distraught neighbors want better public safety and want answers. appreciative of the people that came. >> reporter: they came by the dozens to pay tribute to judy solomon. the 66-year-old oakland woman shot dead wednesday on fern street while driving in her car just blocks away from her home. >> she was a wonderful dancer, a wonderful pianist. she loved opera, loved classical music and she was crazy about animals. >> reporter: sol man was a pet sitter and animal advocate who did everything to keep them safe. she also cared deeply about her neighborhood. >> i'm sure lucy could say what happened in this car. >> mayor son reiner says her dog was in the car with lucy when she was kid. >> whoever approached her tried to get the cell phone is what we understand. >> reporter: those who live in the maxwell park neighborhood find robbery was the motive behind wednesday's killing. in fact, for the past year,

solomon has been working tirelessly to get people to hire private patrol here because crime was so bad. >> she walked the streets, handed out information, talked to her neighbors about the patrol. she was committed to it. >> and people are committed to her memory placing flowers where she was killed. they believe something has to be done to stop the violence. >> she was never mean to anyone. she was always nice. she cared about animals and she didn't deserve this and i just don't understand why people do sthuf like that. i think it's horrible. >> reporter: cheryl hurd, nbc bay area news. 4:34. investigators searching for a suspect in what appears to be a home invasion robbery. they say the suspect tried to force his way into a family's home about 6:00 last night with a gun and pepper spray. a man got in and shots were fired. two children inside were able to escape along with a woman and a man. police say a gun was found inside the home. a perimeter was set up.

police think the suspect left before it was set up. the suspect is described as a hispanic man in his early 30s with bushy long ponytail, goatee with tattoos above both eyebrows. he was last seen wearing a gray zip-up jacket, grai t-shirt and blue pants. a peninsula man in jail for what police call a vicious hate crime attack. santos marques attacked a 55-year-old victim early saturday morning, beating the victim in the head and face with a large bicycle u lock that looks similar to the one we will be showing you here. police say marques and the victim do know each other and the attack is related to the victim's sexual orientation. >> these types of crimes are extraordinarily sensitive and we take it very seriously, just like many police agencies do. we make it a high priority to hold accountable people that perpetrate this type of crime. >> marques was booked into san

mateo county jail for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated mayhem while committing a hate crime. the number of homicides so far this year in san jose now back down to 29. police say a woman's death that was first ruled a homicide actually is not. investigators say they now believe the 62-year-old woman died after being badly beaten, but the death is no longer considered a homicide. the investigation into exactly what happened continues. cleanup is under way this morning at a novato restaurant after a car went crashing through a front window. >> again, just grateful that the timing was what it was. >> the crash happened a half hour before a children's pizza party was set to star, the pizzeria bar and grill was expected about 60 people for that party. no one was seriously hurt. we have a new warning for you this morning about gas stoves.

scientists at lawrence berkeley lab say they could exposes your family to dangerous air pollution levels ten times higher than what the epa says is safe outdoors. researchers found people who cook at least once a week with a gas stove can inhale damaging and even deadly pollutants. that can increase your risk of respiratory problems, heart disease and even worse. >> when particle levels are higher outdoors, you see more hospital admissions yourks see more people getting sick with an array of cardiovascular illnesses and even more death over time. >> experts say a simple range hood can dramatically minimize those health risks. experts also recommend using the back burner and setting the fan on high while you cook. if you don't have a fan, they say you should open a kitchen window. an elderly woman in northern california glenn county recovering in west nile virus. it's the first confirmed human case in the state this year. the virus has also been detected

in birds in alameda county and mosquitos in santa clara county. tonight at 11:00, santa clara county vector control will fog for mosquitoes in east san jose. you can see it on landis avenue, interstate 680 and old piedmont road. a butterfly that makes its home along the sand dunes in antioch is reportedly on the brink of extension. lang's metal mark butterfly has gone from 2300 in 1999 to just 86 burt ter flies last year. some conservations blame pg&e saying night engine from the nearby power plant is causing a weed to grow that kills off the host plant. they plan to require pg&e to do more to help protect the butterfly. the utility company says its power plant is one of the cleanest and that it's doing its

part to protect the butterfly. >> 86 butterflies left, they better hurry up and start protecting them. >> big difference. >> 4:39 right now. let's check back in. christina loren here to tell us about what's happening heading to the weekend. >> it's so close now. one more work day to get through. good friday morning to you. taking a live look at your temperatures right now. we are in the 50s and 60s to start, headed towards a picturesque weekend, especially if you live anywhere around the inner bay, that is the place to be. temperatures will be down right perfect. 59 in san jose, heading into this afternoon at about 78 degrees as you break for lunch in fremont. temperatures today are actually going to end up cooler than yesterday, particularly at the coast with a pretty robust sea breeze. i have your full forecast coming up. we'll talk about those weekend conditions, the best spots to be outdoors and quite a few events happening across the bay area. we'll give you the forecast for those. 4:39. first want to check your drive

and see if it's friday light at this hour. >> it's also 4:39, 4:40 light. we'll look at the lights towards the toll plaza. i turned our camera over from emeryville at the toll plaza. above the toll gates, close up and as you look, you'll see the red lights. those are closed. the flashing are the fast track. we talked about a little backup. the ones over off to the right as you approach the toll plaza, all but one has opened. that backup is gone. over on the left you still see four of the six lanes are still closed. two of them are hov lanes so you don't have to worry about to toll anyway. we'll look to the maps and see a smooth flow off the maze. no problems down the eastshore freeway. oakland has the overnight construction, down through downtown, south through san leandro, a few lanes blocking. we'll watch the slowing as folks clear the scene. over here down to 60 miles per hour, you see it's yellow. 580 westbound at 205, an earlier crash and car fire over on the

shoulder -- not a crash, just a car fire. no one was injured from what i understand. now there's a stall over on north livermore. watch for that on livermore for 580. so far at speed. a live look shows you the peninsula. easy drive, especially palo alto. thank you very much. as you know, interstate 80 back open at the california-nevada border. a lot of mud cleared overnight. heavy rains triggering the mudslide that closed crews to close the westbound lanes. traffic was stopped for several hours at that wet and messy scene. >> so many bay area people head up there, too. >> exactly. had to splash their way to that one. 4:41. a southern california freeway shut down overnight after someone starts shooting at another car. chp investigating what could be road rage. what we're learning this morning. also the driver of that train -- we showed you this

yesterday -- that derailed a train, put on armed guard at the hospital overnight, as police plan to question him about the crash. a possible plea deal. what we just learned about the case against an ohio man accused of holding three women captive for almost a decade.

welcome back everyone. good friday morning to you. taking a live look outside. that's the golden gate bridge. people coming and going early this morning certainly for a friday. getting a jump on the weekend. 4:45 right now. hall burn will plead guilty to destroying evidence in connection with the bp oil spill in 2010. the company agreed to pay a $200,000 fine and donate $55 million to a fish and wildlife group. halliburton was bp's cement contractor on the drilling rig that exploded. the disaster caused 11 deaths and triggered the u.s.'s largest offshore oil feel. chrome cast, the good news, people seem to like it. the bad news? it's no longer available. hampton pearson live at cnbc headquarters along with a friday morning look at how futures are

trading. good morning to you, my man. >> the same to you, jon. futures, however, are low flat after stocks posted small gains on thursday. the nasdaq had its best day in two weeks thanks to strong facebook earnings report. the dow and s&p 500 are heading for their fifth straight weekly gain. we get data on consumer sentiment. the dow closing at 15,556 the nasdaq closing at 3,605. toyota holds on to the global sales crown, the japanese automaker selling 4.9 million vehicles in the first half of the year, outpacing gm and volkswagen. toyota lost the top sales title in 2011. jon, as you mentioned, if you planned on buying a new google chrome cast device to get three free months of netflix, you're too late. google says due to the offer the

chrome cast sold off on amazon and bestbuy.com. the wait time to get one from the google play store is three to four weeks. google pulled the plug on the promotion. if you haven't heard of chrome cast, it costs $35 and let's users send ought i don't and video from their smart phones and tablets. jon, until i read that last paragraph, i had no clue what they were talking about. >> you were educating me. we appreciate you investigating and getting to the bottom for us. all right, hampton. we'll check back later on. >> the honesty is what we appreciate the most. thanks, hampton, good to see you. firefighters in contra costa county are still not sure what caused a 120-acre brush fire yesterday on federal land near the concord weapons station. a road served as a fire break and kept it from spreading to any buildings or homes. fortunately no one was hurt. cal fire says failed electrical equipment is to blame

for the mountain fire still burning in riverside county. they say the equipment failed on private property sparking the flames that scorched more than 42 square miles. that fire destroyed seven homes forcing more than 6,000 people to evacuate. we checked with cal fire this morning. that fire is now 92% contained. so finally getting a handle on it. >> good news on that. getting that thing under control. 4:48 right now. christina loren is back with us to talk about -- what day is it again? >> friday. >> i just can't hear that enough. >> thank goodness, right? >> we need it, right? >> boy, do we need it. it's one of those weekends, too. we're starting to wind down summertime in the bay area. you know that when the back to school commercials come on. your time is limited. great beach weather continues, a lot happening around the beautiful bay area. we'll take you all across the state of california and tell you what's happening. a lot of people like to be here this time of year. 61 degrees in sunnyvale.

59 degrees to start the day in san jose. high pressure is firmly in control. we did have the thunderstorms, that's what caused that mudslide in the tahoe area yesterday, same for today. we'll see the thunderstorms develop as we head through the second half of the day. if you are headed out there, you want to make sure to stay tuned to the weather forecast and probably a good idea to have the radio on in your car, just to make sure everything is good as you make your way out there. we did see road closures, flash flooding yesterday. 89 degrees on saturday in gilroy. the garlic festival is in town. it's going to be really comfortable this year. not too hot, but really sunny. make sure you have the sunscreen ready to go. you don't want to get burned, especially if you're taking the little ones out there. the same conditions all weekend long in gilroy. not bad this year at all. if you want to go camping, tahoe is not the greatest place this weekend with the thunderstorms in the forecast, but the sonoma coast is going to be really nice, highs in the 60s, lows in the 50s. they have excellent camping spots right there on the beach.

88 degrees for livermore today, 76 in fremont, 81 in san jose and 62 in san francisco where the giants are back at it tonight. we'll have that forecast coming up. monday into tuesday, we continue to cool you down. out in the 90s for a while. it's going to be comfortable, not too hot, no extreme fire weather. >> thank you. >> you're welcome. >> that's what we're talking about. >> you guys remember that come this winter. >> all right. you remind us. christina loren keeping it cool. we like it. we just learned the driver of the spanish passenger train remains hospitalized this morning now under police guard. the judge assigned to investigate this crash telling police to question that driver sometime today. the train company says the driver is a 30-year veteran of the firm with more than a decade of train driving experience. however, investigators say they had a taste for speed. even posted a picture of a train's speedometer with the needle cranked up to 120 miles

per hour and brag that the reading had not been tamper with. investigators say he also wrote on his facebook page saying it would be a rush to go past police that the rail company would actually be fined. the train entered that curve on wednesday. local media reported it was going 120 miles per hour. meantime, authorities now say a total of 78 people have died so far in the crash as opposed to the 80 that they reported yesterday. it is 4:51. attorneys for the cleveland man accused of kidnapping three women and keeping them captive for a decade say they have entered plea negotiations with prosecutors. aeriir ariel castro has pleadedt guilty. the deal which he's likely to accept is life without parole plus 1,000 years. it would allow castro to avoid the death penalty and spare his

victims a very long trial. down in los angeles, police searching for two men who opened fire on a couple people on a packed freeway late last night. this happened along highway 91 just ten miles from downtown l.a. at the bell flower exit. chp says after the two cars crashed, the people in both cars got out and got into a fight. that ended up in gunfire. one person was shot a number of times. another was struck in the arm. the freeway had to be shut down for a while but finally reopened after midnight. 4:52. giants ball park not the only place with at&t name on it. there's a new home for at&t stadium. we'll tell you about. >> how about a traffic nightmare? we'll let you know why your drive home from work may be a big time mess this evening. be warned. that was home from work. getting to work and actually doing work, looking at the golden gate bridge and a smooth drive right now. we'll talk about spots farther south coming up.

well, it is official this morning. just like the giants ball yard, at&t putting its name on another sports venue effective immediately. at&t stadium now the home of the dallas cowboys. the team officials declining to reveal the terms of this deal, but industry insiders say the price tag is actually bigger than the naming rights deal for the 49ers new stadium in santa

clara. that 20-year agreement with lealee i have's worth $220 million. pretty hectic on bay area roads with 140,000 ticket owners trying to get to events. giants are at at&t fans, another 53,000 people expected at at&t park for the jai z and justice timberlake concert. rocker john mayer is playing at the shoreline amphitheater for up to 16,000 fans. don't forget the regular friday night commute sprinkled in. the best plan is to use public transportation, car pool or leave a lot of time for where you're going to go. >> save to say things happening around the bay area. >> i'm not going to any of that. >> did can quick math, about 134,000 extra people on the
