sun's arrival, wednesdaying august 7th. halfway through your week. this is "today in the bay." very good morning to you. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm jon kelley. good morning. right to the breaking news. a 1-year-old among two dead in a double shooting in eaoakland overnight. police at ghormley avenue from the 98th avenue exit of interstate 880. that is where "today in the bay's" christie smith is live and joins us with new information she's just learned about the shooting. a difficult morning out there. >> reporter: good morning to you. i can tell you this is a very emotional situation. family members keep showing up, keep getting horrible news and then hugging each other and crying. a 1-year-old baby shot and killed with a 20-year-old father. i want to step aside, you can see the home where this happened

here. what police are telling us the bullets went right into the back bedroom, this man believed to be 20 years old, believed to be his room. seeing police going up and down the street with flashlights looking for potential evidence. homicide investigators talking to people inside when this happened. neighbors on ghormley started calling around 2:35 shots fired. police believe six to eight shots fired into the back of the home, the baby taken to children's hospital, pronounced dead there, the man died on the scene. a while ago a man and woman walked up, asked if their son and baby andrew, that's what they said were okay and they started crying. another woman with them was distraught and believed this was intentional. no one arrested. we haven't gotten any information on potential suspect. i can tell you, i have heard from an oakland police spokesperson, she is on the way and as soon as we get any

information from her, we'll let you know what she has to say. christie smith, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much. we will be checking back on this within. this deadly shoot, follows several others in oakland where kids, yes, kids the victims of gunfire. three weeks ago 8-year-old shot and killed while attending a sleepover. this is back in december of 2011, 5-year-old gabriel martinez jr. died after being shot near his father's taco truck. a 1-year-old shot during a music videotaping. august of that year, 3-year-old carlos shot and killed, his mother pushed him in a stroller. 6:03. new video of a massive fire that gutted arrival hall at kenya's main international airport in nairobi. right now the fire is contained

and there are nor reports of injury. the busiest airport is reopened to domestic and cargo flights. marla tellez is live. the fire broke out on the 15th anniversary of the u.s. embassy bombings in nay robe by and tan zan ne tanzan tanzania. >> reporter: a presidential official says they are on heightened alert to make sure their people stay safe. the fire broke out this morning, 5:00 a.m. their local time. at rivals area engulfed in thick flames. it is completely gutted. the area where paengz walk through to retrieve their lugga luggage. it took crews four hours to contain. one of the reasons nairobi county does not have a public fire engine in working condition, according to a local paper. the paper reports crews from private security firms battled the fire. with kenya's main international

demolition to watch and reflect to release some yellow balloons there. knight says those balloons have very special meaning. >> it represents all of the millions of children that were never found and the ones that passed away that were never heard. >> what a brave and strong, young woman there. the suspect, ariel castro, signed over the house deed as part of a deal that spared him from a possible death sentence. women escaped may 6th when one broke through part of a door and yelled for help. on the freeways, nationwide amber alert in effect for two children from san diego county whose mother was found dead inside a burning home over the weekend. last night, friends and family held a vigil in lakeside. sheriff's department believes jim dimaggio clipped 16-year-old hanna anderson and possibly 8-year-old ethan anderson.

their mother's body found inside dimaggio's burning home, along with the body of a child. family members have known dimaggio since hes and a child and considered him a nice person. one of hanna's friends say she witnessed an awkward conversation with dimaggio a few weeks ago. >> he's like i have a crush on you. after that she didn't want to be alone with him. >> until the child's body can be identified investigators assume dimaggio is traveling with hanna and ethan. authorities looking for a blue nissan versa, 6wcu986 license plate. 6:07. a b.a.r.t. strike remains a threat, another public transportation agency avoids a strike this morning. ac transit management reaching a deal with employee unions to prevent a walkout. the deal gives 9.5% raise over three years to drivers,

a 1-year-old baby dead with his 20-year-old father in oakland. police say a number of rounds were fired through the back wall of the home overnight. no suspects have been arrested. a welcome sight in cleveland, ohio, where three women were held captive for a decade. now a pile of rubble, that house demolished an hour ago. michelle knight, one of the women held captive, she was there to witness the demolition. ac transit struck a deal with union works are to avoid a strike. that includes a pay raise and changes to health benefits. a b.a.r.t. strike is still looming. a state board will hear arguments from b.a.r.t. and its unions today on stalled negotiations. this one is zoned for entertainment, not nudity. city council will get an earful about a strip club setting up

shop in downtown san jose. bob redell is live with why one city councilman is not rule rolling out the welcome mat. >> reporter: later this afternoon the city of san jose city council open government committee will consider councilman stan liccardo's proposed rules that will regular laid the gold -- regulate the gold club. supposed to open tomorrow. though nudity and strip clubs are banned within city limits the so-called bikini bars are not. liccardo's concerned the gold club would be pushing that envelope, something he doesn't want to see happen in the district in the heart of the downtown. he has proposed new rules in the hopes of reining in what he fears. customers not able to up to dancers, a minimum distance between the women and customer,

>> we have a few distracts. the good news it's not backed up all wait down toward richmond as we typicallybge start to see th happen this time of day. starting to see the maze again slow but not only there, but coming in from the south 180 or 880 coming in from oakland. that was starting to show slowing as well in that location. of course a quick check of areas that typically slow down. through pittsburg, martinez, things are clear. no major delays if you use that route. the altamont pass is slow from livermore and cutting down towards sunol, and a quick check to the north bay notice red. this is on 37 leaving through vallejo, fairfield. coming down 101 through san rafael, a bit of slowing. no major accidents to report.

"today in the bay's" christie smith talking to police. she'll have a live report later in the half hour. family and friends of a missing oakland mother desperate for any kind of answers this morning. sandra coke, last seen sunday leaving her home in her mini cooper. she told her 15-year-old daughter she was going to meet somebody who has information about the family's missing dog but coke never returned. police found her car in oakland and her sister says two cell phones were also found that belonged to her, one of them found on the oakland emeriville border and the or one in richmond. >> we just need everybody's help in making sure that she comes home safely and if there's anybody who has her, who has any information about her, we ask you to please let her come home, her daughter needs her.

the minister and another lawmaker believed to be the target of the blast. both of them did survive. but they were both injured during the blast. one -- nobody at this point claimed responsibility for the attack. new details in the death of two young boys apparently strangled by a 100-pound python in canada. no permit issued for the python and they had not been aware the snake was being kept inside an apartment above an exotic pet shop. snake kept inside a glass enclosure that reached the ceiling of the apartment but it escaped through a small hole in a ventilation pipe. the pipe collapsed in the licvig room. the pet fell on the sleeping brothers. owner discovered the boys when he went into the living room monday. it's unclear why the snake attacked the boys but it may have been spooked and clung on

"today in the bay's" marla tellez joins us in the newsroom for what is next of the property. >> the property will be turned into something good according to city officials who say it's up to the three women and neighbors, they will decide its fate. one idea, turn it into a park. michelle knight wants to create a garden there with an angel. there is here is a live look at the scene. you can see to the left of the screen, that's where the crane, excavator is working to clear the rubble. the contractor who is doing this work for free, by the way, says it will be completely cleared out by day's end. the demolition started 4:30 this morning, hour time. inside the cab of the excavator gina dejesus' aunt wanted to take part of this it took crews less than 30 minutes to complete

the demolition. michelle knight is the only victim who,c showed up to watc. before the demolition began, she and neighbors released yellow balloons, each representing someone who has yet to find their way home. >> why it was important to be here today, nobody was there for me when i was missing. and i want the people out there to know including the mothers that they can have strength, they can have hope and their child will come back. >> knight was present and spoke in court last week when castro was sentenced to life in prison, plus 1,000 years. he as part of the plea deal he gave up his home. when he signed over the deed, he cried. the house is gone. i wanted to mention, google earth blurring out the satellite image of the home before the demolition began. when cruise cleared out the home this week, they found $22,000 in the basement. that money was offered to the three women. they said, no, we don't want it,

that's all we've got. thank you. 6:49. breaking news out of oakland police on scene of a double shooting where a 1-year-old and his father both found dead. that shooting happened at ghormley avenue a few blocks from 98 avenue exit of interstate 880. christie smith over at police headquarters where investigators are expected to be giving an update any minute. good morning. >> good ñrmorning. that's right. we move to oakland police headquarters because a spokesperson is being brief on the shooting, plans to talk with us in the tech tnext ten minute. this was a 1-year-old boy and his 20-year-old father who were shot and killed in a home in east oakland. this is in brookfield village right off of interstate 880 and 980, the exit there. police started getting calls around 2:45 of multiple shots fired on the block.

the plan pronounced dead on the scene. the baby taken to children's hospital in oakland and pronounced dead there a short time later. we're told 6 to 8 shots fired into the back bedroom. the bedroom of the 20-year-old. family members showed up angry, upset, distraught. a man and woman asking police, is my son and baby andrew okay, and they burst into tears. one woman on scene with the family said this was intentional, in her opinion. emotional scene. at this point, we're waiting to hear from oakland police. but so far they've released no information on any suspects. they say there have been no arrests. live in oakland, christie edes, "today in the bay." 6:51. a morgan hill teen accused of raping a drunk woman is expected to be in court this morning. 16-year-old will appear in juvenile court but could be tried as an adult. the teen and his mother helped a woman intoxicated into her home last month. the teen allegedly went back to

the home late that night to rape her, then rob her. police arrested the teen after he admitted to having sex with woman. the sailboat skipper of leading the coast guard on a chase will be in court. expected to be arraigned on three criminal charges, accused of sending out false distress call, failing to stop his boat and assaulting an officer who boarded his boat. he told officers, quote, any attempt bo board my vessel is an act of war. city council considering new regulations for adult-themed gentlemen's club. the rule proposed after a bikini bar will open in san jose. sam liccardo wants to impose strict regulations like no
