looking toward the eastshore freeway. you see the glowing lights. low clouds scattered throughout this area. my view of the bay bridge, inhibited by that. we see a smooth drive and the drive on the roadways themselves are moving very smoothly. this deck of clouds is just above the roadway many spots. we'll continue to follow that especially in the north bay. a half mile in santa rosa right now. here a slowing north 880, high street. road work on both directions. they may be moving the northbound side. i'll check with our other camera and see what we can find. a pretty wild scene here. a developing story in san jose where a man is recovering from very serious injuries this morning after jumping off a freeway overpass trying to escape police. this all happened on the southbound 280 on-ramp to 101 which is next to pal stadium. "today in the bay's" marla tellez is live with more of a bizarre incident on this. >> good morning. san jose police had quite the night out here.

the scene is clear now, but i wanted to step out of the way to show you what's behind me. this is sand spread to cover up all the blood that was left behind after police say a man jumped from the 101 connector way above and landed right there. police say he hurt himself pretty badly. he's said to have major injuries and is currently in the hospital. this all started just before 9:00 last night when police say they attempted to pull over a white sedan somewhere in east san jose. >> the vehicle fled. the officers attempteded to stop the sleek and it wound up on the freeway where it was involved in a collision. there was a couple of injuries, one major and two other folks with minor injuries. >> reporter: it was a single vehicle collision. it happened on the 101 connector at the 280/680 interchange.

police say the car spun out. that's when the driver took off on foot, jumped off the railing. at one point police measuring the drop, estimated to be about three to four stories high. it is the driver with those serious injuries. police say two passengers were also involved. they're the ones who suffered the minor injuries. they detained those two people, though police are not saying why. in fact, police are not saying much to us this morning. they're not even telling us why they're trying to pull over this white sedan in the first place. the 101 connector, a portion of it was closed until about 2:30 this morning. the on-ramp to northbound 280 at king road, this just reopened within the last 45 minutes. live in san jose, marla tellez, "today in the bay." 4:34. happening now, egypt's muslim brotherhood is calling for a nationwide day of rage to protest the deadly riots. the egyptian government threatened to use deadly force if protests get out of hand

again. at least 638 people now confirmed dead after clashes this week between rioters and supporters of mohamed morsi. president obama denounced the violence yesterday. the state department is considering whether to pull billions of dollars in from the country. in this morning, a woman dead and a man injured this morning after a gunman opened fire in east oakland overnight. oakland police say the two were found shot on 100th avenue near san leandro street after 11:30 last night t. woman died at the scene and the man was taken to the hospital, though we have not heard any word on his condition this morning. police right now investigating a motive for this shooting. a celebration of life will be held for a 1-year-old boy shot to death in east oakland last week. drew jackson and his father were sleeping inside a home when someone opened fire into the back bedroom. both drew and his father were killed. today's public service starts at

11:00 a.m. at fuller funerals on international boulevard. drew's mother is asking those planning to attend not to wear black. so far there are no arrests in their murders. the time is 4:36. we can tell you the strike is over, at least it is for now. hundreds of city workers will be back on the job in hayward. the three-day strike wrapped up yesterday afternoon. the union representing 350 city workers says more picketing is possible if city officials refuse to return to the negotiating table. the workers' contract expired back in april and the city broke off talks late last month declaring an impasse. city leaders want to freeze salaries until 2015 and they're asking workers to contribute more toward their benefit packages. the union on the other side says it wants a fair contract with no pay cuts. a well-known all girls private school conducted a

meeting last night. cast leah schools say they take full responsibility for going over the enrollment count this upcoming school year, but they say they don't have any immediate plans to scale back. the school, 33 students over capacity allowed by permits issued in 2000. neighbors say more students will make an already crowded street even worse. the school plans to request a new permit in order to avoid fines and other penalties. the bike party is branching out tonight. that has police warning commuters to brace for possible delays. the bike ride normally takes place in san jose and attracts as many as 5,000 riders. this month it will be starting in sunnyvale and going through mountain view and palo alto before turning around up in stanford. since the cyclists plan to use major roadways, police are warning drivers to be careful and watch out. the ride is scheduled between 8:00 and midnight. so beware.

meantime cal police looking for the driver who hit a group of bicyclists riding home from last month's bike party and simply took off. the riders were on west campbell at about 1:00 a.m. on july 20th when a dark honda sedan reportedly swerved and hit them. one of the riders was seriously hurt. another suffered minor injuries. it is 4:38. for the first time in 20 years, chew' gomez will no longer be the morning radio host. gomez confirmed the news in a video posted on instagram. >> hello there. the rumors are true. i've been in the bay area for 20-plus years. but you got to move on. >> i'm sorry, chewy, i was distracted by that cute little girl with you. he mentioned the departure on kmel's twitter page. it's unclear what the reason is

for his leaving. we have calls in to the radio station this morning. we're waiting to hear back. >> chewy and his little daughter need their own radio show, online or something. >> let's bring christina loren into this mix and talk about this humidity. >> well, this morning we're starting with fog. but it certainly is coupled together. we have a lot of moisture out there this morning. you can actually see that on the golden gate bridge. want to start with this picture because it's one of those mornings we're accustomed to in the bay area, but not this kind of fog. the only place where you're going to drop off in visibility is right at the immediate coast. good morning to you. you can see from that live picture at the golden gate bridge, you can catch my weather updates on koit. mike is working for the radio as well. we'll get his update in a minute. temperatures looking comfortable. 66 degrees in livermore, 66 in san jose and 62 degrees to kickoff a friday in gilroy.

temperatures are going to climb pretty nice, by noon about 79 degrees in livermore. 85 in antioch. counting on a repeat performance later today. it is humid and it's going to get hotter and hayesier as we get into the upcoming weekend and we'll bring in the chance for thunderstorms. 91 for today in livermore, 77 in fremont and 82 degrees in san jose. which stations are you working for, mike? >> talking about star 101.3 and the bay's 103.7. double duty over here as well for traffic duty. looking over here, fender to fender as folks are lining up northbound 880. you see gary has zoomed in at the flashing lights. they're jammed up north of the coliseum past the high street high-rise. let me show you how far that goes on the map, slow to the earlier slowdown. it doesn't go quite as far north. that's rippling back as they have cleared crews on the northbound side. i also saw slowing on the southbound sensors. they may be getting ready to

clear those crews as well. the corridor between the kol seenld fifth in downtown shows a slow drive because of the road work movement going on there. we have west 580 slow toward the dublin interchange. but also we have eastbound where there is a crash on the shoulder, distraction and slowing as they move those cars to the edge of the freeway. we're looking at some sort of debris reported here as you're traveling toward north flynn. there's construction in this zone in both directions. watch for minor slowing there. on peninsula, easy drive for palo alto. christina is talking about fog near the coast. we'll track the changes for you as well. speaking of commuting, the bay bridge is set to close for five days later on this month while crews work to connect the new eastern span ahead of the labor day opening. the bridge will close traffic at 8:00 p.m. on the 28th and will then reopen on tuesday, september 3rd, about 5:00 a.m. the opening will be going off without all the planned pomp and

circumstance. they also add that they will try to refund some of the money that people have donated. during the closure b.a.r.t. says it will expand service to help out. trains will run around the clock starting the evening of august 28, ending the morning of september 2nd. an exact schedule will be released in the next few days and we'll keep you posted on that. >> if you're curious about this guy, we now know what will happen to the bay bridge troll that currently lives underneath the upper deck of that eastern span. the mtc says the 14-inch troll will be put on display at a museum that they plan to build that will be located near the toll plaza. might want to call it the troll plaza. it was welded underneath that bridge back in 1989 by a very creative and apparently talented ironworker. >> kind of scares me a little bit. trolls, the whole bridge story.

good friday morning to you. 4:46. it will be a very emotional morning for thousands of families in moore, oklahoma. children in that town ripped apart by an ef5 tornado almost three months ago are returning to class this morning. 25 people including ten children were killed and two elementary schools destroyed. students have been moved to a nearby junior elementary while those in brier wood -- many parents and teachers say they hope getting back to a normal routine will help the children continue to heal. >> i think that's a good thing for them and for us because we're able to separate ourselves a little bit from the tragedy and focus more on hope in the future. the district says it hopes to be able to reopen both

schools in time for next school year. >> positive step. they need a lot of them down there. a small village in thailand apologizing for google after villagers accused a google street view driver of being a spy. he was driving a car like this through the village of sa-eab. they thought he was surveying for an unwanted dam project in the area. a local newspaper saying he was only allowed to go free after villagers took him to a buddhist temple and made him swear on a statue of buddha he wasn't working for the dam project. hampton pearson live at cnbc's washington bureau with a look at how futures are trading this morning. good morning, hampton. >> hi, laura. we have futures looking a little

higher after storks beat the declines. the dow falling triple digits for the second day in a row on tuesday. the dow down 225 points. the s&p sliding 24. the nasdaq down 63 points. rising interest rates continue to put pressure on stocks. keep an eye on the ten-year yield. investors will also be eyeing key economic data today including readings from the housing market, productivity and labor cost as well as figures on consumer sentiment. if you are the owner of a ford c max hybrid, look out for your $500 check in the mail. the u.s. carmaker is compensating customers for the discrepancy between the fuel economy advised on its hybrid model against complaints that mileage falls short of claims. ford will now be relabeling the car under a new ratings system to reflikt the real world mileage which is up to seven

along the coast you'll lose visibility. in santa rosa, you dropped back off to one quarter mile. you will likely run into some thick pockets of fog as you make your way out the front door this morning. travel cautiously. high pressure still in control. it will trap the subtropical moisture. the humidity stays 70s and 80s around the day. 80s and 90s for your inland city. this is what you're looking at city by city. 91 in livermore, 77 in fremont and 82 in redwood city. close to 90 degrees down in gilroy. you'll see more cloud cover today and you'll probably feel the humidity. if you didn't feel it yesterday, it's creeption up even more so as we head through out today. mountain thunderstorms possible monday into tuesday. we'll see some hot weather as a lot of kids head back to school next week. the best chance for seeing thunderstorms will be in the north bay mountains and, of

course, the east bay hills. right now i'll send it back to you guys. >> that forecast has a little bit of everything. we have new details about the ups plane crash that killed both pilots in alabama this week. ups has now identified the victims. the ntsb releasing brand new photos of the black box flight recorders recovered from the crash scene yesterday. investigators are hoping to have full access to the data later today. tomorrow morning cal state east bay's warren hall will come down in a cloud of smoke. crews have placed explosives inside the 42-year-old nearly 800-foot building which the university deemed seismically unstable. they've installed 600 size gaffs to record the impact. they hope to learn more about the hayward falls and how badly it shakes.

daughters are back on solid ground this morning after the hot air balloon they were riding in got stuck in a tree. take a look. it happened in new jersey about 20 miles southeast of philadelphia. emergency crews had to use ropes to pull that balloon free and rescue all the people inside. they are all thankfully okay. >> happy to hear that. right now an update to a story brought to you earlier this week. that's right, a luxury villa in the shape of a mountain. this is in beijing. it is coming down. the man cave will live no more. demolition of the building that sits on top of the high-rise apartment began this morning. they'll rip out all that dirt

there. workers in the orange vests are tearing the mountain apart. the owner spent six years creating this villa, a big mound of dirt but didn't have the proper permits. neighbors have complained for years about the mountain peak on top of their building that's damaged the structural integrity of the building. if i'm going to do a man cave, i don't think i'm going to start with dirt. that's authentic big shovels. >> look out below. let's check the morning commute. is there one out there, mike? >> not much of one. looking toward the oakland coliseum where we had a stackup. the flashing lights at the top of the screen are the remainder of folks moving over one lane to the right as you're passing high street headed into downtown. we have a crew in the earlier area and caused stir. back and forth between the center divide. speed sensors recovered. a quick look at the san mateo bridge. you can't see the high-rise.

there are low clouds around the bridge. caltrans shutting down for 20 hours starting saturday night. closure coffers roughly five miles of the freeway in the westminster area. it's part of a $277 million project to connect car pool lanes and knock down an aging bridge. but five miles, a big problem down there. it is 4:57 right now. saying good-bye to a peninsula institution last lapse at malibu grand prix will take place this weekend. we'll take you inside for a final farewell.
