. breaking news, a police standoff in san francisco. christie smith is on the scene. she'll have a live update coming up. she didn't hear a car putting on its brakes or nothing. the search for a driver who hit and killed a man on a south bay street. now investigators are hoping that you can help. plus, in court overnight, olympic sprinter oscar pistorius faces the judge. the beautiful full moon in san jose. along with that, students all over the south bay getting ready to roll back to school for their first day of classes on this monday, august 19. this is "today in the bay."

it is a full moon out mther. >> a lot of kids headed to school. let's check the forecast with meteorologist christina loren. >> good morning to you. we have so much to go over in the weather department for today. i'm tracking showers on the radar right now. want to point out right off the bat, a red flag fire warning in place through most of the bay area as we head through today and tomorrow with a pretty robust system offshore. some kids headed back to school may need to bring their umbrella. temperatures are balmy. 58 in san francisco cruz. i'll show you the radar and we'll talk about the first day forecast. first let's find out what's happening on the roads with mike inouye. we had a lot going on in oakland until about a half hour ago. they reopened all lanes.

we had a crash on fifth through 880 downtown. traffic very light at the coliseum. the same stretch through the roadway shows no real slowing. you may find debris and cleanup work on the shoulder. all lanes are open headed into oakland and downtown. as you approach the maze and the toll plaza, no big concerns right now. slowing toward highway 24 to the right side of your screen. we'll be prepared for the morning commute. back to you. thank you very much. now to break news in san francisco this morning where police standoff in the mission district is over. this is at the intersection of 23rd and hampshire street near san francisco general hospital. "today in the bay's" christie smith joins us live from the scene with the latest. >> reporter: good morning to you. a couple minutes ago san francisco police made entry into an upstairs unit here at a home in san francisco. they were looking for one or two suspects. they tell me they may have opened fire on people sitting in a car. they made entry into that home and tell me there were no

suspects inside, only one occupant. i want to step aside so you can see what's going on. san francisco police now leaving the scene. they're telling me that someone opened fire earlier this evening on a car. several people inside, but no one hurt. the sergeant tells me that they were able to take two people into custody, but they got information that a couple more may have ran inside of a home here. they brought out sfpd tactical and special teams to search that home. again, no suspects. only an occupant inside. i'm told at least two people were detained. the neighborhood had been quiet with a few people evacuated. just a couple minutes ago we saw them walking around again. again, this situation is winding down. reporting live in san francisco, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> we'll be checking back on that one. today we'll learn more about what exactly cause add deadly limousine fire on the san mateo bridge that happened earlier this year. authorities finishing their investigation into the may 4th fire which killed five women. today that investigation will be

released to the public. the san mateo county coroner and district attorney as well as representatives from chp, foster city fire department and the public utilities commission will be on hand to discuss these findings. a news conference is set to be held in redwood city starting at 1:00 this afternoon. 4:34. five people from the south bay are under arrest suspected of kidnapping a los angeles woman so she could be forced into prostitution. all the suspects came from san jose and gilroy. their alleged victim, an 18-year-old woman escaped friday and called for help to come in a hotel in moreno valley. she told deputies she had been kidnapped the day before in the compton area. she says she was sexually assaulted by two kidnappers, then driven to a hotel room where her kidnappers planned to force her into prostitution. the five accused kidnappers in face charges of human

trafficking, attempted pimping and fams imprisonment. witnesses say they heard a loud thump but didn't hear any skids before they saw the man lying out on the road. >> we have no description of the driver as it was 8:4r5 at night. the sun had already set. in that area there are not last o street lights. >> how could you do that? how could anybody do that? it's terrible. >> the victim who died at the hospital has been described as a 61-year-old man. police right now looking for a late model pickup truck, light in color with a red stripe on the hood. students all over the bay area headed back to school this morning. almost a dozen school districts and a couple of college campuses getting ready to welcome back students. at san jose state, student orientation starts today with a speech from the university's president. classes also resume at the college of san mateo this

morning. and in san francisco extra police will be out and around city schools today and tomorrow to enforce school zone speed limits, a good reminder to everyone. that city actually has 15-mile-per-hour speed limits in school zones. santa clara unified back in session. milpitas unified and milpitas unified as well as oak grove in san jose. cambrian unified. can we just say pretty much all of them? >> i think you can. >> a pleasanton teenager accused of hitting and killing a bicy e bicyclist in june expected back in court today. 18-year-old cody has has been charged with murder. police say he hit the woman and her husband on foothill road killing her and seriously injuring her husband. he was reportedly driving 43

miles per hour over the speed limit. police say hall boasted on twitter about speeding and that led to the murder charge. remember this guy? the man accused of running naked through a b.a.r.t. station? >> i don't knower in gary sab bow will be arraigned today. he was arrested earlier this year after this cell phone video surfaced of that incident at the 16th street b.a.r.t. station back in may. he has pleaded not guilty to the charges. 4:37. new warnings this morning after a man plunged 100 feet off a cliff in half moon bay. he was walking close to the ritz-carlton when the cliff crumbled from beneath him, sending him down to the beach below. cal fire says he walked up to the trail to a place where cliffs to be stable but are not.

>> time to check in with christina loren on our monday forecast. >> good morning. it's a big day for many kids across the bay area headed back to school. we have this red flag warning in place after hitting the triple digits in many cities yesterday. that was pleasanton, livermore, also we saw the 90s in places like east oakland. it was a hot day, now that subtropical moisture really increases as we head throughout this afternoon. look at livermore right now. getting a little shower activity, somewhat organized. over the east bay hills you'll probably want to bring the umbrella if you're headed back to school today or off to work. otherwise looking pretty dry for most of the day. i'll get into that thunderstorm forecast coming up. look at your temperatures this morning, 70 degrees at livermore. 69 degrees to kickoff a monday in san jose and 63 degrees in san mateo. temperatures are nice and balmy right now. it's going to be hot yet again today. 96 on the way to livermore, 82 in fremont, 70 degrees in san francisco. i'll show you who has the best

chance of seeing those thunderstorms, not just today, tomorrow as well. when we keep that high fire danger going. that's in my next report. first let's check your drive on monday morning with mike inouye. >> i just saw up until a couple minutes ago another issue at the oakland camera. we'll take it full but it was on the southbound side, flashing lights at the bottom of your screen. they have cleared. so another incident and cleared, 880 and nimitz through oakland cleared quickly by overnight crews. a little bump to the volume heading toward oakland and past san leandro. looking at 580 and 205, the volume light, a tad bit below 60 as you make the merge. your average speed, you're at the limit. you see from our caltrans camera over on the right, pretty sparsely populated in both directions. westbound, of course, is your commute direction as you head through livermore and over toward the dublin interchange, a very easy drive right now. nothing to speak of as far as incidents and slowing.

looking toward the south bay with your traveled speeds. looking at 101, 87 and 280 looking like a south flow. we want to watch all these surface streets and your roads getting to and from the freeways which will be a little more congested close to the 8:00, 8:30 time of the morning. the san mateo bridge looks smooth. there's a great shot of the moon right above the roadway. we'll send it back to you. >> beautiful sight to see, mike. thank you very much. the lost dog found swimming in the san francisco bay last week, good news. she has brand new home. the man who picked up the black lab mix in the bay says the dog, now named richard parker, will live with him at his home in north berkeley. adam kohn named that dog after the tiger from the book and movie "the life of pie."

welcome back everyone. good monday morning to you. 4:44. a south african judge set a trial date for olympic sprinter oscar pistorius. he appeared in court this morning with his brother and sister by his side for that hearing. he's charged with premeditated murder for the shooting death of his girlfriend, reeva steencamp earlier this year. the trial will start in march. this morning diplomats from the european union discussing what exactly the actions will be they want to take to the on

going crisis in egypt. the meeting comes as violence continues in much of that country. this morning a security officer in northern sinai saying suspected militants ambushed two buses of off-duty policeman killing 25 of them. the number of deaths has climbed to nearly 900 since that violence erupted just last week. supporters of ousted president mohamed morsi say they will not stop fighting until he is reinstated. in the bay area dozens of people gathered in san francisco demanding u.s. suspend support of egypt's military in the wake of the recent violence there. they rallied at the u.n. plaza yesterday. they say hundreds of innocent people have sadly died since the ousting of egypt's president. jpmorgan chase under investigation in china accused of preferential hiring to secure big business in the booming nation. courtney reagan live at cnbc world headquarters with details on that plus a special

anniversary from mountain view's own google. good morning, courtney. >> good morning to you. jpmorgan is under investigation for its hiring practices in china. "the new york times" first reported the u.s. bank has been accused of hiring the children of influential chine officials including the son of a former banking regulator who is now chir man of china everbright group. the dow had its biggest weekly drop for the year. both the dow and s&p closed at their lowest levels in a month. the dow slipped 30 points to 15,081, the nasdaq three points to 3,602. there is no economic data today, investors will wait for the release of the fed minutes which come out on wednesday. it was a day the internet stood still. google crashed late friday night. during that time internet traffic fell 40% worldwide. that's according to web analytics firm gosquared.

all google services were unavailable including search, youtube and google drive. speaking of google, it was nine years ago on this day that shares began trading for the very first time. back to you. >> gosh, i remember that day, reporting it. thank you very much, courtney. 4:47. christina loren is back and she's here to talk about -- there's a nice beautiful moon out there. the question is what is the weather going to be like? >> it is sticky, icky, icky. that's going to continue throughout the day today. humid and hot just like yesterday. this nice balmy start to the day means easily hitting the mid 90s again in the extreme east bay. livermore, forecast about 96 degrees out there with the humidity. it fees like we're in those triple digits. i want to start with your radar this morning. we had a little organized shower activity. this isn't just virga, this is a little cell pushing north of san ramon. you may have to use your

windshield wipers, temperatures in the 70s as you make your way out the front door on a back to school monday for many. if you live in the high country, go to school in the high country, make sure you're ready for the showers and thunderstorms as we head throughout the day. here is the deal, high pressure to our east. an area of low pressure just offshore. that's going to suck up that subtropical moisture and put it into the bay area. it's monday. muggy subtropical feel. the areas i've highlighted, tahoe, headed anywhere towards that area, you could be in for some flash flooding later on today. is no joke. we have the red flag warning in place for much of the day and, yeah, tomorrow as well. we're not going to get out of this pattern. look at your temperatures, 96 in livermore. 86 in san jose, 82 in fremont and 70 degrees in san francisco. here is the deal for the week, temperatures aren't going to shift all that much. we'll stay nice and hot.

92 degrees for tomorrow. by wednesday into thursday, still keeping that chance of some thunderstorms in the forecast. here is the deal as we get into friday, saturday, sunday, the dry heat comes back. a return of the a.m. fog. be ready for an active weather week. what i can tell you is when it comes to that red flag warning, when it comes to the potential dry lightning strikes, if you see something on the highway, find a safe place to pull over and report that as soon as possible. we want to keep the bay area safe. we've had a relatively mild fire season so far. you can help out with that. >> right now the beaver creek fire in idaho is threatening new communities after forcing the evacuation of more than 2,000 homes in that area. an army of firefighters and aircraft have been battling the wildfire since lightning sparked this 12 days ago. now residents in nearby towns have been told to be ready to evacuate at any given moment. over the next 24 hours, more

than 7,000 homes could be swallowed up by this fire. solana county firefighters heading to butte county to help battle a wildfire along highway 70. the nearly 2,000 acre fire is threatening more than 400 structures, forcing hundreds of residents there to evacuate t. california department of forestry and fire protection all say erratic winds mean the direction of the fire could rapidly change at any point. beware, as of last check, this one is about 45% contained. at 4:50, we have new information this morning about the san francisco fire department and a controversial de decision involving the airplane crash at sfo last month. the issue centers on a firefighter who used a helmet-mounted video camera during the rescue operation. that camera captured the moment a fire truck ran over and killed one of the victims. these are images some of them from that camera. the fire chief says the department banned video cameras

four years ago in facilities. now she says that ban was meant to include emergency scenes as well. critics say the ban is outrageous and aimed only at protecting the department from the lawsuits. legendary blues singer planning to file a civil lawsuit against the city of hayward. that will be happening today. 73-year-old lester chambers just dedicated a song to trayvon martin where a woman jumps on stage and attacks him leaving him with bruised ribs and a hip engineer. 43-year-old dina lynn andrews potter was charged with assault and elder abuse. chambers says the attack forced him to cancel a series of performances. >> if you can't breathe, you can't sing. it hurts to take a deep breath and apply pressure to bringing out the lyrics. >> attorney john burress says that civil lawsuit names the city of hayward which sponsored

the festival, the concert promoter and those in charge of concert security. burress says he will be announcing the amount of money they are seeking today at an 11:00 news conference this morning. before the wrecking ball hits candlestick park, there could be a repeat performance by sir paul mccartney. >> the chronicle betty ann ross reporting mccartney passed the idea by san francisco mayor ed lee. he told lee, if you're going to tear down the stadium next year, we should think about the doing the last concert there. when shea stadium was demolished in new york in 2009 mccartney did that final performance there as well. then he and billy joel helped break in citi field which is the brand new home for the mets. mccart any doing a farewell tour for stadium folks to come. >> classic performer. come on sir paul. 4:52. the giants paying special tribute to the victims of the
